  1. We might get a rare glimpse of the endangered species The Good Horacio. 2-0, 2.63 ERA lifetime against the Bucs. As everyone should be.

  2. Anything that’s not guaranteed in that contract is worthless. So, he’s just recognizing that he’s going to be negotiating his next lifetime contract soon.

    1914 Update:

    NY Giants 52-36 (–)
    Chicago Cubs 52-42 (3 GB)
    St. Louis Cardinals 51-45 (5)
    Boston Braves 45-45 (8)
    Cincinnati Reds 45-48 (9.5)
    Philadelphia Phillies 42-49 (11.5)
    Brooklyn Robins 39-49 (13)
    Pittsburgh Pirates 39-51 (14)

Children and National League baseball fans are bored on Sunday. Damn blue laws.
The A’s have increased their AL lead to 7 1/2 games, while the Chiacgo Whales are now in first place in the Federal League.
Best evidence that time travel will never be invented: In Weeghman Field’s first season, only 200,729 fans attended Whales games. That’s by far the FL’s best attendance, but still just 2607 fans per game. (By comparison, the St. Louis Terriers drew 47,586 fans for the season or 618 per game.) Surely, if we eventually invent time travel, a few people would want to see Wrigley when it was brand new.

  3. Stu,

our cbs team has been getting dominated lately. Oswalt sucking, Patterson and Davies going out for the year, Sheets never starting, Glavine reverting to human form, and Lidge sucking has not helped our cause.

Neither have Chippers & McCanns injuries, Berkmans groin, etc.

  4. I was always incredibly creeped out by Mr. Rogers as a child. He was TOO nice; it was as if he was hiding something, like the presence of 20 dead bodies in a freezer in his basement a la Jeffrey Dahmer.

I got over that. But I’m still afraid of the Teletubbies. Really. I watched it for the first time at 15 and got frightened by that sun with a face and the way they bounced around and those little nuclear warehouses they live in and had to turn it off.

  5. Awful lineup!

    W. Aybar 3b
    M. Giles 2b
    E. Renteria ss
    A. Jones cf
    J. Francoeur rf
    M. Diaz lf
    A. LaRoche
    T. Pratt c
    H. Ramirez p

  6. Jenny,
You are not alone. I, too, was terrified by the teletubbies when my children watched them, though I must admit that Mr. Rogers didn’t creep me out much. But more haunting to me of late has been the presence of an entire Baby TV network, airing 24 hours a day of teletubbie-like ilk. It’s not only shocking that they would air such stuff, but also that it’s on 24/7. Oh the horror!

  7. National Lampoons Summer Vacation is on Comedy Central, if this thing get out of control.

IT is at the part where Clark drives the car off the road in the desert

  8. My favorite part is when Clark is looking for the gas tank on his new car at the gas station and inadvertantly rips his license plate of and throws it on that other car. Funny every time.

  9. lol, aunt edna…she would be a better option behind the plate then todd pratt. He reminds me of one of those red neck softball guys who drink a case of beer before they play. Just has that look.

  10. did jeff just have an ab with 9 pitches and 8 swings? WOW! Jeff’s thinking :
“Ok, i am going to be patient and take a look…damn! strike one. ok…patience (Whif) strike 2! No use trying to work the count now.”

FOUL, FOUL, FOUL, FOUL, FOUL, FOUL, Whif.

“That was a good at bat”.

  11. Valiant death their Frenchy, next time try to live.

    Andruw pulls another one in.

    Imagine Coco Crisp doing that.

    You can’t.

  12. “if TBS cuts the braves, will chip be out of a job?”

No he’ll do play by play for Rayomond and Saved by the Bell.

  13. 4Seam,

Well considering every sports team in the city has yellow on their uniforms it kinda goes with the theme. I wish turner field was half as pretty as PNC park.

  14. Chip: “Dad, I don’t know about you, but I can tell why Everyone Loves Raymond. In fact, in Chicago they want to build a statue of him outside of the friendly confinds of Wrigly Field.”

  15. Would Coco play center for us, or would he play left while Langy plays center? Perhaps he might play right, while Francouer plays center?

  16. Rusty yellow bridges? Who thought that was good looking?

The women who get in the sack with Bill Maher?

    I can’t stand that….

  17. Hey, Andruw’s getting a workout, 98 degree heat, him running, that’ll knock some of the fat off him.

  18. But then who would be the veteran presence that Bobby loves so much? Would he be happy with Chipper and Smoltz?

  19. Rusty? they just painted them. Never said they were good looking, just said that pnc park is nicer then turner field.

BTW, Bay doesn’t have warning track power, 24 hrs this year.

  20. “i hope by next year mccann will need no more “mentoring”.”

LOL, i think the mentoring was long done about a month into the year. :)

  21. Chip and Skip can both retire from Baseball and do something original and really entertaiing, like take a small amoutn of cash and go around the Souths biggest junkyards-I mean yard sales and buy tons of junk, I mean priceless pieces of crap.

I can see it now, they will call Junkin’.

They can be kind of like the white Sanford and Son.

  22. If by mentoring you mean showing someone how to suck the life out of an organization, you might be wrong. Pratt might need a couple of more years to tutor McCann yet.

  23. The whole we are signing todd pratt thing because he is going to “mentor” Brian was a coverup for he’s a cheap option as a backup.

  24. Jeff,

I truly hope that our backup catcher isn’t sucking the life out of the braves organization or else we are in trouble! :)

  25. “Maybe we could put Pratt as a bridge outside of the Ted.. ”

That would be a rusty old ass bridge…

  26. “Rusty? they just painted them. Never said they were good looking, just said that pnc park is nicer then turner field.”

    They need some more paint.

AND THEY DON’T HAVE THE MONTER HDTV!

In fact I heard every team AL pays tribute to our Wonder of World so it won’t use it’s powers to cause famine amongst them.

  27. “The whole we are signing todd pratt thing because he is going to “mentor” Brian was a coverup for he’s a cheap option as a backup.”

Pena’s cheaper, he’s got a Minor league contract.

    PENA, PENA, PENA, PENA

Trade Pratt to the Red Sox.

He’s gotta pass waivers, he’s got to.

  28. cut pratt and jordans head off, put them in fermaldehyde (sp?) and set them on each side of the bench. there’s your veteran leadership without the roster commitment

  29. Please note: I’m not anti-Pratt nor am I a Pratt-hater. I do think that Pena would be an equally cheap option, however (and he hits better).

  30. Well Varitek went to the Dl.. maybe we can send Pratt to the BoSox.
We don’t want anything in return…he just has to go, and never come back.

  31. “cut pratt and jordans head off, put them in fermaldehyde (sp?) and set them on each side of the bench. there’s your veteran leadership without the roster commitment ”

Wow, someone has a plan. I haven’t seen that in a long time.

  32. “Well Varitek went to the Dl.. maybe we can send Pratt to the BoSox.
We don’t want anything in return…he just has to go, and never come back”.

    We’ll pay you…

  33. i do like jeff and i take up for him a ton, but i am throwing up a little in my mouth watching him continuously swing at pitches you couldnt hit with a ladder. i never understood that saying. a ladder would be very hard to swing. you would always be late and there would be many holes in your swing.

  34. 4seam, are you trying to say turner field is a more beautiful ball park then PNC Park because of a big TV?

Also, remember last year Pena sucked ass? I doubt the braves were thinking of bring him up at the beginning of the year. BTW, he only played in a couple games this year, i think we should hold off on the Pena talk until he proves he can hit at this level.

Jeff M. he wouldn’t be a cheaper option now that we would still have to pay Pratt if we cut him.

  35. The above post was not in any way intended to be serious.

Just really bad sracasm, nothing to see here.

  36. Pena can run, he’s a better hitter and defender than Pratt. Younger, REALLY YOUNGER.

Pena is not getting more benjamins than Pratt.

    Pratt has no future.

  37. Just thinking here, think if we would have traded Andruw for Hansen and Crisp. THen use that money to sign SOriano in the offseason. That wouldn’t of been too bad of a thing. I know it’s pointless now and it would have given up hope on 2006 just throwing something out there while watching this boring game.

  38. 4Seam,

YOur not reading what i wrote. YES, Pena is better and younger then Pratt right now. But at the BEGINNING OF THE YEAR the braves couldn’t have relyed on Pena based on what he did the previous year while called up. SO they had to sign someone to back up.

Next year, Pena should be the backup.

  39. GameDay “watching” again. Did Frenchy’s throw have any chance of getting Sanchez?

  40. where was horacio. that had to be the most awkward place for him to be . he looked like he was trying to get in position to make an out/safe call. boy, that was dumb.

  41. “WTF was Pratt doing”

Reflecting on the great season he had as the Mets backup catcher, 70 years ago.

  42. Pratt’s a 100 years old in Catcher years, his knee caps are gone and his bowel movements are more and more frequent.

  43. Well Brian..

Bay hit the ball to the gap, Frenchy threw it in to Marcus, who then threw to home plate..and Pratt somehow tried to catch the ball on a hop, but somehow he fell…and the ball went to the backstop…letting Bay take 3rd base..

  44. I no doubt believe that Pena should be the backup instead of Pratt, i was just talking as to why Pratt has been the backup all year and not pena b/c at the beginning of the year when it was time to think of a backup catcher Pena just wasn’t good enough. Or didn’t prove to be good enough

  45. Off season predictions:

#1 Giles traded for 2 AA starting pitchers (from a west coast team), one of which makes the team…

#2 LaRoche traded to the Dodgers; they need more ex-Braves and haven’t decided whether or not they could start a team of all-infielders playing infield at the same time.

#3 Jones traded to the Red Sox/White Sox for a major league ready starter, a left fielder (to back up Johnson), and a major league reliever.

    Starting lineup for 2007

    2b Aybar
    SS Renteria
    3B Jones
    C McCann/ RF Francouer
    RF Francouer / Lf Johnson
    LF Johnson / C Pena
    1B Thorman / Jurries
    Cf Langerhans
    P

  46. pratt missed the relay throw and it got all the way to the backstop (where horam should have been) allowing the runner to advance to 3rd, which caused no furthur damage.

  47. Last night I kicked Giles, this night I decide to unload on Pratt, you know what considering what happened last night and tonight.

The entire team sucks, GO BRAVES!

  48. Pratt does it again, and I’m torn… how many more of these hits does he need to get a contract for 2007?

  49. did you guys see that snail run past laroche. WOW! he’s saaalow. look at pratt coming through. let’s badmouth other braves.

  50. Why would we trade LaRoche, he’s young and shows he’s a .270 30 hr, 100rbi good defensive 1st basemen. Doesn’t make much sense. As for Andruw, we won’t trade him unless it’s this time next year and we are not going to resign him and are out of the playoff race

  51. “2b Aybar
    SS Renteria
    3B Jones
    C McCann/ RF Francouer
    RF Francouer / Lf Johnson
    LF Johnson / C Pena
    1B Thorman / Jurries
    Cf Langerhans”

I would love if it was….

    P Warren Spahn

  52. You have to be impressed with Aybar’s plate discipline so far, that’s one thing I guess they don’t teach anymore in the Braves minor league organization.

  53. I was just thinking that 4seam. The fact that I fear laroche getting hurt as hes a really bright spot in the lineup … that really scares me.

  54. “Really made him work that inning…”

I had to work to just go reach for the remote, I think i have the stamina to be a Major League starting pitcher.

  55. 51 pitches. HoRam showing why I still have faith in him. Even if it is vs the Pirates.

  56. I know what an analogy is, it came before digital.

Reds are losing again, which is good; Mets are blowing out Florida, which is not. Yes, we need Florida to lose sometime, but I’d prefer it be sometime when they’re not playing the Mets.

  57. Strained right hamstring for LaRoche

But we still have Pete Orr

    WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!!!!

  58. 4Seam, you need a positive attitude check. And remember, we still have the power of Tony Pena Jr.

    We’re positively going to die.

  59. Yes, we need Florida to lose sometime, but I’d prefer it be sometime when they’re not playing the Mets.

Really? Why? We have zero chance of catching the Mets. We’ll be lucky to catch a lousy Reds team much less a good Mets team.

  60. “4Seam, you need a positive attitude check. And remember, we still have the power of Tony Pena Jr.

We’re positively going to die. ”

Oh thats some funny right there, that is some funny.

    My inner Terry Bradshaw SPEAK!

  61. LaRoche is arbitration eligible (I think) this winter, so he won’t be cheap. Better to trade him after an extremely solid year, that’s why he ought to be traded in the winter. Jones by all that is good and holy in the universe ought to be retired as a Brave, but the Corporate Braves won’t pay and I don’t think that he’ll do another deal on his own this time. So, again, he’ll be traded either during the winter or some time next season.

  62. Right now I just hope LaRoche isn’t hurt too badly, because he’s basically all the offensive we have (McCann would the rest of it).

  63. Did HoRam just lose it? Maybe he realized that without LaRoche in this lineup we won’t score, and so decided to just them a lead now so we don’t have to sit here and wonder about the outcome of the game…

  64. Do we try to get more out of Horacio, or is he turning into a pumpkin? At least now, we have somewhat reliable late-inning relief in Baez and Wickman.

  65. Don’t wait till midnight. Summon the ‘pen now. I wish Horacio would have given us this performance against the Mets.

  66. Baez and Wickmania.

Is it too early to say that it if we win this game, WE DO HAVE A BULLPEN?

  67. Why let Ramirez hit for himself? After the last inning, he clearly is tiring. Get him out of there.

  68. They should have brought in Yates for this Inning, don’t wait until Ramirez walks the leadoff hitter.

  69. how did that ball get behind diaz.. he could of easily gotten the runner at home…. damnit

  70. I was a force in Dixie Youth, Diaz reminds me of the untalented kid who sat over in the corner playing with himself.

  71. The cameraman behind home plate couldn’t follow a play if his life depend on it. FOXSS sucks.

  72. OH YEA, WE ALL INCLUDING BOBBY COX AND MCDOWELL FORGOT ABOUT KENNY RAY!

    Our 2nd/3rd best reliver.

  73. I was more like a farce in Little League, 4Seam. But I’d still be a better catcher than Pratt.

  74. WE GOT THE LEAD BACK! SAC FLY!

The two beasts Baez and Wickman are getting ready.

    Near DP.

  75. Ray’s not with the team, I didn’t know.

I thoguht We all decided to go stupid and consider Yates our 7th Inning guy.

  76. And is it just me, or do the umpires seem to lack enthusiasm and/or muscles in their arms?

  77. 4Seam, Vulture’s another name for Villareal. Kim Jong-Il wasn’t even that competent.

What is this strange feeling I have entering the ninth inning? Could it be that stuff they call confidence?

  78. Oh Villareal, he is tied in wins with Hudson.

    Kim Jong-Il I know.

I would like to call Baez “Ice”, and Wickman “House” for certain reasons.

I love “Ice-House” at the end of the game.

  79. Tggr, could be worse- maybe he expects to see Wickman on Fox’s “House” this fall, trying to explain the death of another Braves pitcher (whom Wickman accidentally sat on).

  80. That ain’t smoltz’s fault. It’s [Name Redacted] and CR’s fault.

YES THE WICKMANIA IS RUNNING WILD!

WHATS YOU GONNA DO, WHEN THE WICKSTER CLOSES DOWN YOU.

    STRIKEOUT!!!!!

  81. “Tggr, could be worse- maybe he expects to see Wickman on Fox’s “House” this fall, trying to explain the death of another Braves pitcher (whom Wickman accidentally sat on).”

    Deep thoughts.

Gatorade player of the game Horatio.

  82. What is this strange feeling I have entering the ninth inning? Could it be that stuff they call confidence?

    Yes

B RAVE SWIN BRAVES WIN BRAVES WIN!!!!!!

    WICMANIA IS ALIVE!!!!!

  83. … and spelling is dead.

Seriously, reliable relief is good. Timely hitting is good. Waiting one inning to pull HoRam, not so good, but hopefully Bobby will learn from it.

  84. HoRam had to prove himself after that Mets game. I think Bobby was right to leave him in (with a reliever ready at first sign of trouble). Yates should have cleaned that up, but hey, we won!
