I repeat, it’s only the Cubs, don’t have any hope, it’ll just break your heart.
I have been telling Chipper to change his music to “Iron Man” for a couple of years now. I figure it will help him stay in the lineup.
Does he listen? No.

07 schedule
Next year’s Interleague schedule will include visits from the Red Sox (June 18-20) and the Tigers (June 22-24). The Braves will travel to play the Twins (June 12-14) and the Indians (June 15-17). It will be their first trip to Jacobs Field since the 1995 World Series.
Using “Iron Man” as his theme music hasn’t helped Ryan Langerhans stay in the lineup. Neither has his bat, of course.
Always the Red Sox, never the Royals.
The Red Sox are considered our “natural rivals.”
Fact is, I’d rather play the Red Sox & Yankees every year.
good article about the GA Little League team being honored at Turner Field. I’m sure most have read it, but here it is anyways.

Really nice to see Tim Hudson (Columbus-born/Phenix City-bred) giving them all the attention. It’s a great story.
so much for the Jones brothers…
McCann has supplied the winning RBI in all three games in the series, and LaRoche has hit .462 with 14 extra-base hits and 18 RBIs in his past 15 games. The two lead the Braves with 46 RBIs each since the All-Star break.
Can this team go 13-7?
Seems like a steep climb for this bunch.
we have won 10 of the last 15, so maybe we have one last run. Lets shoot for 15-5 and see what happens.
Hooray! I have a wide received now for Another Overrated #7! Not that I needed one this weekend…
1914 Update:
Boston Braves 73-54 (–)
NY Giants 70-56 (2.5 GB)
Chicago Cubs 69-61 (5.5)
St. Louis Cardinals 68-62 (6.5)
Pittsburgh Pirates 59-66 (13)
Philadelphia Phillies 58-69 (15)
Brooklyn Robins 57-71 (16.5)
Cincinnati Reds 56-71 (17)
Today’s Game:
Phillies 000 130 100 – 5 11 6 LP- Rixey
Boston 012 001 002 – 6 11 1 WP- Cocreham
The Braves score two in the bottom of the ninth on one single, two errors, and two sacrifice flies to stay 2 1/2 ahead of the Giants, who win 3-0 hosting Brooklyn. Cocreham started two games in the last week but got this win in relief, the last of his career.
The Braves have finished their season series with Philly, winning it 12-10 after losing eight of the first 12.
Is this true? Even with all of his injuries this year, Chipper is just two plate appearances shy of the mark he needs for his $15 million option to vest next year.
If so, DL him for the rest of the year. $15 mil for 120 games at 3B, thats another Hampton type contract!
Wow csg, from an economic standpoint you are no doubt correct. But what kind of reaction would fans (including quite a few here) give if they DL him for the rest of the year, especially after what he’s done for the organization (I’m not talking about years of service, etc., but rather the contract give-backs that have, or theoretically would have, helped the team sign/acquire other talent)? What kind of outburst from Jones might we get as well? Again, I’m not saying you are wrong, but it would be quite a risky proposition in a number of ways…
Chipper’s got two years left on his contract. He reworked his contract last off-season to turn those option years at $15 million into guaranteed years at $11 million (plus an option year in 2009).

Tonight’s Lineups:
Cubs:
Pierre CF
Bynum 2B
Ramirez 3B
Lee 1B
Jones RF
Pagan LF
Izturis SS
Blanco C
Hill P
Braves:
Aybar 3B
Giles 2B
Renteria SS
AJones CF
Francoeur RF
McCann C
Diaz LF
LaRoche 1B
Smoltz P
Why is Frenchy batting ahead of McCann? Why are we batting a guy hitting 254/ 321/ 268 as a Brave leadoff?
But then, it could be worse. We could have the Cubs’ ineup of Lee, Ramirez, and various meat by-products.
Now would be a good time to mention that Betemit is slugging over .500 with the Dodgers. Wow, what an awful deal.
Apparently we are just trying random shit now? Prado at 3B? Our best hitters on the season hitting sixth and eighth?
What has happened to Smoltz? Maybe he just can’t pitch for 6 months now. We should go the Clemens route and just have him start pitching in May. Then he’ll still be good in September. Think our pitching could survive without him next April?
And, that situation is why McCann should always hit ahead of Francoeur. He struck out on three pitches with a man in scoring position and McCann on deck.
Also, LaRoche isn’t in the game according to GameDay. It’s Ward. I don’t care who the pitcher is, put our best hitters in there and put them higher in the lineup Bobby!
Francoeur sucks.
How is this possible?
“Rich Hill singles on a ground ball to third baseman Martin Prado.”
The guy is a pitcher!
You know what? I just got mad. We’ve needed pitching help all season long. JS did go out and (finally) get Wickman and Baez, so that’s dandy. Then, for some inexplicable reason, he goes out and gets a hitter? Why? I don’t know, we don’t really need a hitter. But, a hitter he got. And so now this hitter has to get some playing time. And who does he take that playing time from? Only the guy who has been our best hitter for the last few months. The guy who has spent the last few months proving he can hit lefties and doesn’t need to be platooned. But now, since we have this new hitter who has to play somewhere, this hitter is back to being platooned, even though we are fighting for the last little bit of dignity we can muster.
JS, what were you thinking? (And I normally don’t bash our GM. This just got to me. If LaRoche is hurt, I apologize. If LaRoche is being platooned, someone is screwed up.)
FOX News is reairing their 9/11 coverage, incase you weren’t depressed enough
Well Smoltz apparently hurt his groin. He called McCann and Bobby out but stayed in the game. Walk. 3 run homerun. After every pitch you could see John grimacing sharply. I’m really stunned Bobby left John in there to face Derrek Lee after the walk where he missed wildly on the last pitch. Why do I have a feeling we’re going to discover John has been yet another Braves pitcher who has been hiding an injury for weeks?
Well, the Cubs couldn’t turn Smoltz around. Maybe he should shut it down for the rest of the year and look to next year. Who would have guessed—Cormier keeps a winning streak going only to have Smoltz break it?
Oh, I didn’t know he was hurt. Definitely time to shut it down.
Blah @ Francoeur striking out again. Although I just looked it up and he’s actually not leading the team in strikeouts. Jeff has 115 Ks to Andruw’s 117 (totals before today’s game). 115 Ks in 576 AB is not all that bad really . Adam Dunn for instance has 169 Ks in 503 AB. Somehow it seems like Jeff strikes out a lot more than he actually does.
Why is Ken Ray still on the team?!?!
Wow I wrote the aboce post 35 minutes ago.
Is no one watching/listening to this game?
I’m watching while doing some transcription. Besides, there’s not a whole lot to say at this point.
Well, Brayan Pena just produced more than Pratt does in a month.
Thorman sucks. Get rid of him.
Also, Brian Jordan got a hit. Another season of playing time.
“…thats another Hampton type contract!”
Why is everyone so obsessed with Mike Hampton’s contract? Aren’t the Rockies and the Marlins paying a lot of it? Someone correct me if I’m wrong, I’m not really sure.
The Rockies and Marlins paid the first 3 years of it. The fourth year was covered by insurance this year. Subsequently, everything is out of our pocket from this point on.
The trade was brilliant by JS at the time, but he didn’t realize that our payroll would continuously sink every year from that point. We should have paid the first few instead of the last few…
Hampton has a no-trade clause and said he won’t let himself be traded, so not even Vidkun Schuerholz could get rid of one of the Braves’ better starting pitchers.
Needless to say, I want Hampton to stay.
Well, that sucked.
At least I have the Vikings (+5.5) in my NFL pool…
Hampton was pitching well before he blew his arm out. There was no way Shuerholz could know he would become injured.
