Dear Jason –
I’ve got good news and bad news – good news is I’m giving you a chance to win your starting gig back. Bad news is it comes against Lincecum. Good luck, and don’t make out or I’ll give Wes Helms your bench spot.
One major problem with Constanza’s game, his niche is completely useless with men on base. You can run like Jesse Owens, but a chopper to third is going to be an out if Chipper Jones is standing at first base.
This was largely masked when he batted 8th, between Gonzalez and the pitcher.. But hitting 7th last night, immediately behind Jones, it became pretty obvious.

There are plenty of ABs for Heyward/Constanza/Chipper/Prado for those who like all these guys. Constanza is better than Nate as the 4th OF. He does do well for they type player he is when batting in the 8 hole, but the lineup is so much better with a healthy, productive Heyward.

@20 – of Constanza’s 25 hits, 13 have been infield hits, including several that were of the generous call variety. That is an impossible rate to hold up. He has a 25% infield hit rate right now, which is more than double Michael Bourn’s career high. He has been really lucky, which is great for him, but he just isn’t a very good hitter.
