About the only thing that went wrong today was JPW having an uncharacteristically inaccurate/bad decision-making day. He’ll get it straightened out, and our run game is for real (and deep). Our D’s inability to get consistent pressure on the QB will come back to haunt us, but I like the direction we’re going offensively.

I was feeling crappy after Oklahoma molested Miami 51-13…but hey, I could be a Michigan fan right now.
32-7. Wow….

Davey,
Why do you feel really crappy after my school took care of Miami? We are a good team, its not like we are Michigan or even Ohio for that matter.
Also, ABC might want to rethink “COLOST” as their abbreviation for Colorado State.

I’m very impressed with Bama’s O-line and I like the play calling for a change. The defense played well today, but I still think Bama will be 8-4 or 7-5 mostly because of their defense. I hope they do much better. I will say that one pleasant surprise has been Rolando McClain – he looks awesome for a true freshman.
Georgia Tech was up 45-0 against Samford at the half, the most they’ve had in a half since they were up 126-0 on Cumberland in 1916. The Jackets also set a modern record with nine rushing touchdowns in a game, winning 69-14.
Yes, I know that’s not going to be normal for GT, but it was still pretty fun to read about.
And Renteria scores a run in his first at-bat back. How much did we miss this guy?

Why is it set in stone the Braves have to trade Renteria and install Escobar? Why not let Renteria play the last year of his contract in 2008 with the Braves, trade Escobar this offseason and look to Lillibridge in 2009?

I kind of like this lineup. Why not keep them both?

Because then you get back into the whole KJ vs. Escobar debate…
Dan

Because the Braves have a better player than Escobar in Kelly Johnson.

The Braves have been lucky this inning. The Nats should have gotten like six outs already this evening.
“And because the Braves need to spend Renty’s salary on starting pitching…”
That makes sense only if you don’t pay 15-18 million for Andruw Jones like some people here are actually suggesting.

I’ll have to say that Chipper’s defense has been incredibly reliable. Thank you, Ryan Zimmerman for reminding me of that.

Early congratulations to the Atlanta Braves. It looks like they’ll be at least one of the first team in MLB history to go a full season with no nine-inning complete games from any pitcher.
I think the Marlins and maybe the Nationals are the only other team left with no complete games. Maybe they’ll each get one and the Braves can be the only one to hold this new “honor”?

I feel kindof bad for Zimmerman. That can’t be a good feeling. And now that he’s thinking about it, it’ll take some time for him to get over it.

Ok, I haven’t been watching the game…is this right? 6 unearned runs?

And the Nationals’ bench coach was ejected? What the hell is going on?
'Rissa
on September 8, 2007 at 7:48 pm
Yeah. We got two in the first inning after there should have been a double play and us scoring nothing. When we got four the Nats should have been out of the inning several times, but certainly after the CF dropped a fly ball and then Zimmerman threw the ball away while failing to turn a DP that would have been the third out (after stepping on 3rd to get the second out). I guess we took advantage of what we were given.

Corrallas (or however you spell his name) was thrown out after Tex should have been struck out on a check swing, but was called safe. It wasn’t exactly that close, and was a pretty bad call. The ump threw Corrallas out pretty quickly, though. It was pretty bizzare, actually.

Ah ok. Gameday put the ejection before Teixeira’s at-bat so it looked like he got thrown out after Chipper reached on an error.
Thanks for the summaries, much appreciated.

Where would we be without Moylan this year? I will have to say that he is officially our best reliever. Whoever scouted the World Basball Classic needs a raise.
I daresay that Moylan is the best Aussie in the game today. ;P

It is hard to believe that Moylan started the year in the minors and when he was called up, the case could have been made for other relievers over him. Simply amazing how much that’s changed.

I’m starting to lose respect for Appalachian State. Michigan is really bad.

What happens when you play a cruddy team:
Georgia Tech was up 45-0 against Samford at the half, the most they’ve had in a half since they were up 126-0 on Cumberland in 1916. The Jackets also set a modern record with nine rushing touchdowns in a game, winning 69-14.
Yes, I know that’s not going to be normal for GT, but it was still pretty fun to read about.
I hope we all know what happened against Cumberland. Maybe Michigan should give up football too.
If anyone forgot, I’ll be glad to remind them of it. ;P
Renteria’s playing! Single in his first PA.
And Renteria scores a run in his first at-bat back. How much did we miss this guy?

Four-pitch walk for Frenchy. It’s now officially funny.

16-12 USC, 1:11 to go, UGA has the ball and they’re driving.
Well, so much for Diaz’s BAbip.
Jasper Brinkley intercepts the Hail Mary pass, looks like this game is USC’s.
And Manny Acosta is just SICK when his control is on.
USF is beating Auburn 7-0. Mike Ford set up the td on a 20 yard run. He was supposedly Bama bound 2x, but couldn’t make the grades.
You know, as much as I don’t want Yates to have to work more than he has too, I wouldn’t mind of Langy got a hit here. For old time’s sake, you know?
Hooray! It’s our old punching bag Langerhans!
Langerhans!
I didn’t mean for him to hurt Andruw…
Okay Tyler, now you can get out of this.
And he almost hit a homer. Go figure. 🙂
Looks like the Braves might actually finish over .500 this season.
Man, that took long enough. At least the Braves scored enough runs without Washington’s help to escape with their dignity.
