It’s your site Macathon, you can put adds wherever you want. No need to justify.
Looks like Brett Myers might get a chance to close….Gordon is going to get his shoulder looked at.

Not to throw in a shameless plug or anything, but I posted a Saltalamacchia sonnet in the last thread that took me a couple hours from my busy, busy workday here at the office. So, you know, I just thought I might repost it here.
Say it ain’t so, don’t trade the guy for scrap
Atlanta’s backstop riches overflow:
Lest mashers wear a New York Yankees cap
Trade talks be damned: just simply answer “no.”
Ah, Baby Braves… so young, so good, so cheap
Like each new callup’s better than the last
And bullpen rocks the other guys to sleep
My hopes are up, my fear of Mets has passed.
As Jarrod works the count his wife’s aglow
Cause she taught sports to pimpled athletes too
Could she be working on his swing? (I know,
Hot women get my mind off track, it’s true)
I love the Braves this year. And this kid’s great.
And we’ll be defending champs in ’08!
Let’s all click on an ad to help Mac. Does that actually help?
I can’t believe Langer got traded twice across the country in the span of a week. He deserves better.
It helps a little, but I’m not supposed to tell you to do that. (Wink!)
I’m loving how the ads on this page are all for “journals” — Wall Street, leather-bound, mom’s…
Yeah a little, i’ve had it on my blog for a few months and I’ve only gotten like $40. But as far as I know you don’t get your first check till you reach $100. So I got awhile to go.
Mac,
Does clicking on the links help you or do you have to go buy something for it generate revenue for the site?
I’m willing to click and look around a little if it helps fund your site. Which, I must add, is great.
JB
What kind of traffic do you get, Jay?
I think they just count clicks. And thanks.
If I can clear $150 a year I’d come out ahead. Ideally I’d like to make enough money to occasionally buy something I wouldn’t otherwise, nothing too big.
Not that much, it’s been up and down…I’m lucky to get 100 a day…for instance today i’m at 86. But I did have two days that were both over 1,000.

Mac,
Not that much, it’s been up and down lately. I’m lucky to get 100 a day. But i’ve had spikes, for instance I had over 1,000 back-to-back days not too long ago. So far i’m at 87 visitors today.
Mac, I had to laugh when the first add is for a mother’s journal. Because we all know that us braves fans are big fans of mom as well.

I bet porn adds would pay better.
Finally my search for a Bradley Braves ringtone is over!
This is old…but funny, you gotta admire his perseverance.
Ironically, my home service provider blocks the ads.
I got a course at school, specifically in Google ads. I’m not kidding…whoever finished the semester with the highest revenue got the best grade.
U get money for each click, but it depends how much the ad is “worth”. Some ads pay very little,..some adds pay a lot. Having good content and good traffic also helps bring higher paying ads.
And, you can’t click for yourself, or tell other people to click for you. 5 of my classmates got banned from Google, for telling friends to click, or telling the visitors on their sites to click for them.
So you gotta be careful…
I am expressly not telling anyone to click. Unless they want to.
BTW..you should be able to pass 150 in a year Mac.
My boss, he’s some Google ad expert and the man makes about 1200$ a MONTH with those things. But, he does have about a gazillion sites, and he’s lucky enough to get plenty of clicks.
I’m still trying to learn his little secrets, on how he does it…
See, it would be wrong.
Yes, it’s wrong indeed….and that’s what those people in my class learned the hard way.
But, you don’t encourage anyone, so there is absolutely no problem.
Oh, and I put the begging bowl up, but there is no pressure at all on this one, it’s a just in case thing.
Nothing like a good tough guy competition.
The second video cracked me up, Jay. The first one — I felt like I was watching brain damage occurring…
Sansho,
The second video is great, I laugh every time.
Is it just me, or does the guy that says “you guys are gonna like this one” look like Matt Geiger?
http://tbonetom.tripod.com/geiger.jpg
Haha, that movie was hilariousl.
Watching Mets-DBacks. AZ up 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th. Reyes picked off first to end the top.
Man, the DBacks have stupid-looking uniforms.
Nonetheless, let’s go stupid-looking uniforms.
Damion Easley just hit a 3-run homer in the top of the ninth off of Valverde. Oh well.
Haha…great Matt Geiger reference. You just don’t get those like you used to.
Error, walk & Easley hits a HR. AZ’s closer Valverde/Valeveeta gives it right back.
Mac,
I don’t know if it is your service provider. But my IE7 blocks a lot of Google Ads (might be a plug in). They all show up if I use Firefox, just not IE. Just an FYI, but good luck getting some funding on the site and congrats on the new one.
Abbreviations on uniforms = BAD idea
I use Firefox. It’s an ISP thing.
I use Firefox, but with NoScript (joy of joys, second only to the wheel in terms of human invention!) and I don’t get them.
PS, NoScript is the shizzle
I just read the most ridiculous article on mlbtraderumors.com…..it seemed to advocate sending Salty to the Mets for Milledge and a pitching prospect.
I would rather have Dan Kolb pitch with the bases loaded and no outs in the 9th of a 1-0 7th game of the world series than see Salty in a Mets Uni……I think I’m gonna be sick just thinking of it…blech
This is pretty cool (is it the shizzle?):
http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/ATL/2007_orgbat.shtml
It’s a depth chart with current stats for players at each position for the whole Braves’ organization.
AMH,
Thanks for posting that, it was great to see how everyone is doing.
Based on the stat page AMH posted, Gregor Blanco looks like Juan Pierre with a few more walks. Pass.
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2007/05/the_salt_of_new.html
He talks of a Braves-Mets trade in which the Braves give the Mets Saltalamacchia and the Mets give the Braves Lastings Milledge and Phillip Humber (some high-ranking pitching prospect).
Juan Pierre that walks is… good. At least a fine guy to have leading off for you. ‘Course, this only holds if he steals at the same rate or better than he’s done in the minors and if he can play good defense in CF. Anyrate, probably better than Willie Harris, assuming he can keep that OBP around .400 at the ML level (which I suppose is doubtful).
Ignore the MLB Trade Rumors guy. This is the same guy who thought that the Braves would want Brian Anderson to replace Andruw.
Our gracious host Sean, meanwhile, continues to build onto what already was the greatest website in human history. Check out Rome CF Jordan Schaefer. The last CF with stats like that in Rome was, well, Andruw.
“At least a fine guy to have leading off for you.”
I kind of hope Kelly Johnson keeps leading off for the Braves this year and well beyond. He’s good.
I wouldn’t trade a sack of balls to the Mets
Smitty:
What if we got a servicable closer out of it?
The Braves are set at closer. If the Mets want to give us, say Tom Glavine, for said sack of balls, well I’d be fine with it.
According to the article, the last trade the Braves made with the Mets was in November of 1996, when the Mets sent the Braves Paul Byrd and a player to be named later (some nobody) for Greg McMichael.
James,
I think we have three servicable closers at it is…we need to focus on getting another solid starter.
If the Mets want to give us Glavine for a bottle of air and pay his contrat, I MIGHT take it.
But the Mets can go to hell and take Chris Woodward and Mark Redman with them.
I hate the Mets
This is why mlbtraderumors has a crappy rep in my opinion. The braves and mets are not going to make a trade, period. If we want to move Salty, there will be plenty of other teams to negotiate with.
MLB Trade Rumors is a joke. I bet they just sit around, get high, and see what they come up.
“Jones and Ortiz for Rauch and Anderson? BRILLIANT!”
All hail Sean Forman.
Ave!
Well, your first problem is that the post on MLB Trade Rumors was written by a guy who writes for a Mets blog (Blastings Thrilledge??? *sighs*), so perhaps wishful thinking there.
Even more hilarious is the parade of Mets fans who follow in the comments claiming that Lastings Milledge is still the greatest prospect of all-time.
There’s also another post on there wondering about trading him to the Tigers for Nate Robertson and a prospect. I am currently banging my head against my desk.
If the Fish wanted to trade us Dontrelle Willis for him, I don’t think I’d complain.
Adam LaRoche was benched yesterday in favor for Ryan Doumit. Do you think they might be regretting that trade just a little bit? I know i’m not.
LaRoche: .132/.245/.253 3HR 11RBI (26 games)
Doumit: .407/.467/.741 2HR 6RBI (11 games)
Gonzalez: 1-0 1.59 ERA 9K 7BB 11.1 IP
What’s great is that these are the same guys who said that Lo Duca deserved to start the All-Star Game last year.
The medical examiner said that Josh Hancock was drunk, more than twice the legal limit. He also wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and 8 1/2 grams of marijuana was found in his car. Also he died instantly due to head damage.
Josh Hancock was drunk, on his cell phone, and there was pot in the car. Yikes, man. And I had to watch story after story about this guy just because he threw a baseball for a living. I try to be respectful to those that cannot defend themselves such as Hancock, but geez, you might as well have blind-folded yourself and tried to drive.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2860122
Not much to say about Hancock.
Nothing good about this story.
Jordan Schafer is having a good year and he is a solid prospect, but he is nowhere close to Andruw. It should also be pointed out that he is a good center fielder with a canon for an arm.
However, the main thing to remember that this is Schafer’s second year at Rome. The real test which will probably begin anytime now will be the promotion to Myrtle Beach. Kala Kaaihue and Campbell are the most recent to be humbled….
Mac, will you have a Willie Harris writeup soon?
I’ll try to get it posted tomorrow. I’ve had some distractions and haven’t been able to complete it.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m burnt out with the AJC blog. It used to have a decent back & forth on it, but it has gotten so out of hand with all the guys stirring the pot that I just look for DOB’s posts about team news & skip the rest. I wish he would just ignore all the crap too, because 70% of his posts are him fighting with some idiot.
You have to like the Braves’ chances tonight against L.A. Brett Tomko’s numbers against Atlanta are gruesome.
I agree Phillip – I just search for DOB’s posts and skip the rest – it’s pointless banter.
I only search for DOB’s posts as well.
Andruw played A ball at Macon. I am 60 miles from Luther Williams and it is a great old ball park. I actually made a game in one of the years between Chipper, Javy, Klesko (what a team!) and Andruw.
Re: AJC columns
I never read the posts on DOB’s stuff or Bradley’s stuff or anyone’s, really. The Dumb-Ass Factor is way too thick.
Smoltz, Hudson, Davies…I guess I better get used to that. I’ll take 2/3, I suppose. Let’s grind out some series wins.
Tomorrow afternoon, I’m taking my cousin from Shenandoah, Pa., to Yankee Stadium. He’s a die-hard Phillies fan, so I’ll surely hear the latest tales of woe. (That’s what Phils fans do.) I’ll just nod & say, “Oh, you’ll win your 85 games somehow—want another Yueng-Ling?”
Seattle’s in town, so there will be a huge Japanese contingent there. And Wang’s pitching, so the Chinese will be in force with their Taiwan flags. Should be a pretty festive time at the ol’ ballpark.
Mac–Andrew unfortunately never played in Rome. The team moved from Macon 5 years ago.
As for folks who are dissing the trade rumors site (e.g., “MLB Trade Rumors is a joke. I bet they just sit around, get high, and see what they come up.”)–the Salty for Millege & Humber trade is no sillier than some of the ones floated on this site (e.g., Wilson and Diaz for a starter). While it’s unlikely JS would trade Salty to a division rival, the trade is plausible in a value-for-value sense.
Speaking of DOB, he had this to say…
MBATL, absolutely they haven’t ruled out moving Salty to another position. Haven’t ruled out anything (well, other than moving McCann _ I don’t see that happening for a long time, barring a major injury).
I was merely trying to point out that he just turned 22 and is coming off a really bad season in his first year above A-ball, so Salty could certainly stand to have a full, solid season in Double-A, then they can address this next winter, either by seriously considering a move to 1B (if Thorman doesn’t have a strong season), a trade of him or Thorman, whatever.
My only point was that there’s not this urgent need to do something right now, not by any stretch of the imagination. Let’s let him get a major league hit, enjoy his time up here, then go back and totally dominate Double-A pitchers and put up huge numbers. Then his value is higher than ever and the Braves can decide whether to capitalize on that value or decide he’s simply too good an offensive talent to trade and that they must find a spot for him.
Milledge and Humber for Salty is a deal I’d do in a second. That being said, Minaya would be hung from a lamppost if he pulled the trigger on something like that.
