ESPN.com – MLB – Box Score – Cubs at Braves

As someone noted yesterday, at least we don’t root for the Cubs. They actually led, 2-0, through 2 1/2, getting a homer in the second off of Chuck James, then a goofy run scored on a grounder that pinballed around on Marcus in the third. But in the bottom of that inning, LaRoche (who had been robbed of an RBI on a first-inning triple when Aybar was called out for missing a base) continued his otherworldliness with a two-run homer (Aybar touched all the bases this time) and McCann drove in Andruw with another homer to make it 4-2.

James coasted from there; he allowed one more run, unearned, in the fifth but Andruw got it right back on a homer, and the Braves scored a couple more on singles by Francoeur in the seventh and Giles in the eighth. James struck out six, walked only one (and it was semi-intentional, Derrek Lee with a runner at second and two out) and went seven innings. Kali pitched the eighth and Wickman got the Atlanta Save, finishing it off with a nice spear of a ball up the middle to turn a DP.

L’il Tony started at short, batting eighth (Bobby seems cured of his tendency to make out his batting order by position) and actually had a hit; everyone did but Langerhans, tonight’s inexplicable starter in left field. Again, if you’re trying players out why not let them start in right for a change? Speaking of, Francoeur had two hits and his assault on the Guillen Line continues, with his OBP all the way up to .295. You can do it, Jeff! Marcus, McCann and Andruw also each had two hits.
