i know it is too early to panic but i said this before the season and i am sticking to my guns: we are going to have to get a first baseman that can give us steady production. laroche is not the answer, jordan is not the answer, and i dont think jurries is the answer. betemit could be, but i’m not so sure. i was not confident in the team we had going into the season, and i am still not so sure about them. there are obvious holes that need to be addressed.
ryan c

sorry for the double post, but i am not considering right field a hole yet. francoeur still has to prove he sucks long-term, laroche already has. WE NEED A FIRST BASEMAN NOW! .230 with 25 hr’s doesnt cut it.
Dan
on April 26, 2006 at 11:22 am
I like LaRoche….yeah I said it.
The defense is solid. The hitting is enough to slide by. He just needs more speed.
I like LaRoche as well, but you just can’t win these days without a big bat at first base.
We really do need a slugger who can make contact against lefties.
And Betemit is not a first baseman. We need power. I think LaRoche\Jordan will remain in place until Salty is ready to go.

maybe its because they want to spread the contact hitters out more, but one thing is for sure, and Frenchy and LaRoche should be seperated in the lineup.
Nick
on April 26, 2006 at 11:57 am
Why on Earth is Francoeur still hitting sixth? I may go absolutely ballistic on this one if Bobby doesn’t change where he is hitting in the batting order in the next day or two (assuming Francoeur doesn’t break out before then, that is). Seriously, what the f— is Bobby doing? Is he even watching what’s going on? I generally like how he handles the batting order. I don’t always agree with him on who plays, but I think he generally does a good job of putting who is playing in the right spot in the order. This year though, he has been terrible.
brad
on April 26, 2006 at 11:58 am
nick, the same reason he keeps hitting laroche 5th behind andruw. defies logic.
Keith – someone posted the site http://www.thegamelive.com/ the other day. its got links to all the radio stations. http://www.sportsradio1400.com says that it will have the game on, but i could be wrong, no speakers for me to check out.

Well, we haven’t even gotten to that part yet.
And I’m guessing Bobby wants to make sure absolutely sure that there is no way he can reaggravate it, so he’s waiting until Friday. Renteria’s been wanting to play since Sunday, though, so this is getting a little ridiculous, in my opinion. Maybe he’s doing it on the advice of Jeff Porter or something.

sheets’ braves splits aren’t that great (aside from the game in 2004 of course). he is just a good pitcher.
Another Alex R.
on April 26, 2006 at 12:22 pm
At least every Braves strikeout means that they’re not grounding out to second base on the first pitch. We’re making Sheets throw three strikes to every batter, instead of just one. That’s sort of like working the count.
Stu

brad

Don’t say the P word please. Bobby may be listening.
But it was terrible contact. The same contact–weak grounders to the left side of the infield–he’s been making for the last week. That’s the type of contact one makes when one tries to pull everything.

Nick

Another Alex R.

Let’s see if we can break up the no hitter. That is to say, Ben Sheets has a no-hitter going, and I want to break up his no-hitter.
No-hitter no-hitter no-hitter! Come on, jinx him!
Good Lord, Adam’s swing like there might be one of the worst I’ve ever seen.
Nick
on April 26, 2006 at 12:29 pm
I’ll be damned. Wouldn’t have bet you any amount of money that Francoeur wouldn’t strike out.
Laroche is completely lost. And Bobby’s in love with him, so nothing will change. He’ll keep batting 5th, keep killing rallies, keep striking out half the time, and we might as well accept it.
Another Alex R.

Brad, I would bet $20 that you’re riught. Because they’re two of our most patient hitters, two of our most clutch hitters, and neither of them has the annoying habit of swinging for the fences that seems to periodically grip Andruw, Francouer, LaRoche, and even Giles.

We could charge runs against individual players defensively and include the runs they cost the team offensively by grounding into dp’s, k’s with runners in scoring position, etc. Laroche would lead the team by a wide margin.

I have a theory on the “young bats” in our lineup that struggle (such as laroche and francouer). IMO they are getting pulled in all sorts of directions by a variety of people on the team (veteran leadership such as jordan saying to be aggressive, and pendleton telling them to be patient) that they havent really been able to develop there own game. fire pendleton, release jordan, make chipper hitting coach/player.

I intercepted a memo from the league’s head office to the umpiring union. it reads something like this
Problem: Games take too long
Solution: New Strike Zone Rules
Henceforth, the strike zone will be determined based on an umpire’s assessment of whether or not Jeff Francoeur would have swung at the pitch. If yes, the pitch is to be called a strike. If no, but the catcher catches it in the air or blocks it, the pitch is a strike. If Francoeur would not have swung, and the ball is not caught in the air, or blocked by the catcher, then the pitch is a ball. If the ball hits the batter, it is in the umpire’s discretion as to whether or not Francoeur would have swung anyway. If Francoeur is batting, the umpire may take a 1 minute break and phone in strike calls from the dugout. If the pitch actually hits Francoeur, the manager of the pitching team will be investigated for betting on baseball.
Effective immediately
Note: Do not be affraid to call every single pitch a strike based on the above guidelines, the game will go much quicker that way.

Respect (especially for women) isn’t based on what you think of a person’s statements
Only reason I’m even acknowledging such rude behavior is that I read this board because it had people that I enjoyed “watching the game” with and talking about it… so talk about the game or the team, take the other issues to some other board.
It can be.
Rude? Calling people on idiocy is rude but threatening to kill people for making mistakes isn’t? I guess I’d rather live in a rude world then.
Oh, and please J, make me take it to another board.

did bobby not see what happened to him in arizona last year
Bobby has a long history of using his working relievers as much as possible, to the point that they always get tired at the end of the season, and I don’t think that one year of someone’s stats for a different team is going to change that.

Alex, LaRoche’s error was as much Betemit’s (for not catching a catchable ball) and the umpire’s (for not calling Cirillo out for being out of the baseline) as it was LaRoche’s. I think your distaste for Adam blinds you to his not-bad days.

is anyone else impressed with this? it seems whenever we get a 1 or 2 run lead late in a game our hitters call it a day and hope the bullpen holds it.
but in every game this series milwaukee just patiently tacks on 1 run at a time even though they have the lead and their hitters dont seem to just waste at bats. i think its pretty demoralizing for our hitters to be in the field for 30 minutes in a close game like this
Alex R.

I am not sure Jurries is the answer by any means–I would like to see him given the chance. I just think it can’t be any worse or more demoralizing then watching a daily dose of Adam LaRoche play Baseball. He truly has broken my spirit and hurts my heart.

What do you mean “such blind faith”? I said I don’t think he’s incapable of being boneheaded. How does that mean I have blind faith in him?
Part of my (not-blind) faith in him comes from the playoff homers he’s hit for us, the 25 homers and 80 RBIs you can pencil him in for this season, and the fact that his teammates like him.
Yes, he has lots of faults. But–and we’ve gone over these same things at length, so this is the last I’m going to say about it–he’s our best option right now, barring a trade. He’s not great, but he’s not terrible, and it certainly does no good to bash his character everytime he stands at the plate or a ball is hit to him in the field.
Alex R.
on April 26, 2006 at 2:25 pm
I don’t agree that Jurries or Betemit is a worse option then Adam until I see them play first base in Atlanta.

The problem with laroche is that he made a game-killing error today. That means that everyone who said to give him time and heralded his defense had no excuse for him. B/c if he can’t play defense, he then does NOTHING well, and his error brought that to light.

pray for a Mets loss – its 7-7 in top 10th. Bonds has 3rd HR of the year
i know it is too early to panic but i said this before the season and i am sticking to my guns: we are going to have to get a first baseman that can give us steady production. laroche is not the answer, jordan is not the answer, and i dont think jurries is the answer. betemit could be, but i’m not so sure. i was not confident in the team we had going into the season, and i am still not so sure about them. there are obvious holes that need to be addressed.
sorry for the double post, but i am not considering right field a hole yet. francoeur still has to prove he sucks long-term, laroche already has. WE NEED A FIRST BASEMAN NOW! .230 with 25 hr’s doesnt cut it.
I like LaRoche….yeah I said it.
The defense is solid. The hitting is enough to slide by. He just needs more speed.
Where is Dan Kolb hiding anyway?
IM NOT HIEDING I HAV A HANGED OVER.
I like LaRoche as well, but you just can’t win these days without a big bat at first base.
We really do need a slugger who can make contact against lefties.
And Betemit is not a first baseman. We need power. I think LaRoche\Jordan will remain in place until Salty is ready to go.
Why on earth is Bet-uh-me still hitting 8th?
LaRoche may very well be at first till Salty is ready, but the scary thing is that could mean a couple more years with LaRoche.
Bete-meat is hitting 8th b/c we’re getting so much production from laroche and francouer.
anybody got a free internet radio feed that I can listen to at work. Please help.
maybe its because they want to spread the contact hitters out more, but one thing is for sure, and Frenchy and LaRoche should be seperated in the lineup.
This year though, he has been terrible.
nick, the same reason he keeps hitting laroche 5th behind andruw. defies logic.
Keith —
you may have to shell out the $15 for GameDay Audio …
We need KJ in there. He might not be as productive as Francoeur but he’ll at least get us somewhere and he can play all over the place.
The more I read about KJ, the more I get the feeling he may be out for the year.
Checked back a couple of days, and found an internet feed.

It’s been posted on here a few times in the last few days.
well there’s strike out #1.
We have to get out of Wilwalkey. There’s just no other way to put it.
strike out #2. we could see a new record today, guys.
This is going to be painful.
sportsradio910.com is working great
I don’t understand. Sheets is 0-2 with a 4.50 era…so someone has hit him and beat him twice. We can’t even make contact with him. 3 strike outs.
Unbelievable. Actually, no it isn’t.
I’m guessing those teams actually attempted to get ahead in the count by taking pitches.
Any reason why Renteria is still not playing? I missed any pregame talked
Possibly. Or they had a manager that doesnt bat guys hitting below .200 5th and 6th in the lineup.
1-2-3 Struck Outs, good start-_-
Well, we haven’t even gotten to that part yet.
Jorge needs to go 9 shut-out innings today.
This ben sheets guy is pretty good.
I can’t believe we keep letting geoff freakin jenkins beat us. Does anyone else feel like the team is beaten before they take the field today?
Against us, certainly.
sheets’ braves splits aren’t that great (aside from the game in 2004 of course). he is just a good pitcher.
At least every Braves strikeout means that they’re not grounding out to second base on the first pitch. We’re making Sheets throw three strikes to every batter, instead of just one. That’s sort of like working the count.
Yeah, I know he’s good. (That’s why I have him on more than one fantasy team.) I’m just frustrated right now.
Where was that pitch?
This isn’t a game that will help your frustration, I’m afraid.
Sosa’s throwing lots of strikes, which I like. Seems to be keeping them off balance, too.
Jeez, Chipper is playing third like Pete Orr right now.
Now we get to see how LaRoche and Francoeur do against him. This might actually be so grotesque that it’s entertaining in some small way.
Don’t say the P word please. Bobby may be listening.
andruw made contact!
Well, we’re at least not striking out 27 times.
Whoo! No K!
But it was terrible contact. The same contact–weak grounders to the left side of the infield–he’s been making for the last week. That’s the type of contact one makes when one tries to pull everything.
ben sheets has a *losing* career record. digest that. and brace yourself–laroche struck out.
There may be hope. It looks like Sheets might have a stiff bat the way he’s stretching it. Please, let that tighten up on him.
I’ll be damned. Wouldn’t have bet you any amount of money that Francoeur wouldn’t strike out.
Early flight, gentlemen?
Laroche is completely lost. And Bobby’s in love with him, so nothing will change. He’ll keep batting 5th, keep killing rallies, keep striking out half the time, and we might as well accept it.
I hadn’t realized they were doing the Ted Williams shift on Francouer… seems like sort of a waste, really… but I guess it worked out for them there.
He has a no-hitter going? Why I didn’t even realize there was a no-hitter.
No-hitter.
That was actually a great swing by Francoeur. I didn’t know they played such exaggerated shifts against him already.
By stiff bat, I meant stiff back.
You know I bet has the best atbats against sheets? betemeat and mccann, batting 7th and 8th. just a prediction.
Who is this TBS announcer and why is he rambling about sausages?
Not only does he have a no-hitter going, he has a PERFECT GAME. There, that oughta do it.
Brad, I would bet $20 that you’re riught. Because they’re two of our most patient hitters, two of our most clutch hitters, and neither of them has the annoying habit of swinging for the fences that seems to periodically grip Andruw, Francouer, LaRoche, and even Giles.
Is it just me, or is anyone else sick of seeing braves pitchers blowing on their hands after every hit? Smoltz is the worst. Maybe that’s a roger mcdowell thing.
Okay, WTF. I have the TBS feed and the Milwaukee announcers. Not cool.
Smoltz has done it his whole career. Not sure why it annoys you so, though.
Smoltz has blown on his hand since I can remember
I dont know either. It’s just annoying for some reason. Like they act like that’s the reason they gave up a hit or something.
Anybody have Sosa’s first inning statistics this year? I think he needs to go to the bullpen, because he’s pretty good for one inning.
Whoo! Take that, J.J. Hardy!
Haha.
nice play
they do it to get feeling in their fingers when it’s chilly, so you can put the proper pressure on the ball. maddux always did it to ‘steer’ his fastball.
Gotcha. Guess I’ll be glad when we play some games in warm weather.
B-Mac makes me so happy.
Ladies and gentlemen, Pudge McCann!
as predicted, mccann with our first hit. glad he’s batting 7th.
You go Brian.
smoltz can blow on his 3.00 career E.R.A. hands all he wants.
That ball was hit hard. Too bad it was caught.
Nice call, Brad. Definitely the two best swings so far.
I wonder how badly Sosa would miss if Sheets threw him his best curve ball.
Who knows… he might have gotten homer #2.
Anyway, thank goodness Prince didn’t throw to second. B-Mac is a lot of things, but fast ain’t one of them.
Hey, we’re the first to advance a runner past first base!
Holy crap!
YAY!!!
Way to go, Marcus! We needed that.
..it’s the little things.
Yay, clutch hitting!
Heh heh…that would’ve been sweet. Then we could’ve seen him pose again. Had he not blown up an inning later, how much you wanna bet he would’ve gotten buzzed his next time up, by the way?
and then the big things! All right, Marcus!
Yippee!
Wss that a clutch hit with 2 outs? Are my eyes deceiving me?!
Alright…there you go, Sosa.
Um, he was safe there…
Whoops.
I thought he might have made it… what did everyone else think?
Yeah, he really was.
Yeah, no question he was safe. Bad break.
did he even tag him?
Well, at least my eyes aren’t going. Anyway, it’s not like Ryan wouldn’t have struck out.
I’m surprised we didn’t see any arguing there. Seemed like a badly blown call.
sosa’s placement looks pretty darn good today. maybe he can settle in and give us a good year just yet.
Time for the real Sosa to come in
I will say nothing about how Sosa’s pitching for fear of jinxing him.
I think an electric shock experiment might be in order on Giles with his diving into the base, by the way. You can tell he doesn’t want to, yet he can’t stop himself from doing it, anyway.
I just had a minor heart attack there. I’d like to thank the wind for knocking that one down.
That ball looked SOOOO gone.
Throwing tons of pitches, though, because they’re fouling everything off. 48 pitches with only one out in the 3rd.
That stupid Milwaukee announcer scared the crap out of me and it didn’t even make the warning track. Nice job, Chip Caray Redux.
By the way, Ben Sheets is looking like a mutant cross of Jack Black and Johnny Damon.
reminds me of a great line by maybe Bill James-staying healthy/unhurt is a skill, too, and some players just do not have it. Giles seems to be a great player whose approach to the game does not lend itself to injury free-seasons.
That still wasn’t as bad as Lee’s the other night, which might have made the base of the slide had it not been for the gale-force wind blowing in, but wound up shy of the warning track.
Chick-Fil-A just came in, delivered tons of goodies for free as a surprise gift – wow!
Has anyone ever heard a Ben Sheets interview? He may have a major league arm, but that dude has a T-Ball IQ. He seems like a bonafide idiot.
I have to say, I really like Skip & Chip’s Barbecue. Best in town.
I LOVE Chick-Fil-A. Pretty much everything tastes like a dream, but there’s no substitute for waking up with a nice Chicken Biscuit. One of the worst things about living outside the South is living without Chick-Fil-A.
Krispy Kreme made it; why the hell can’t they?
What? It’s good, but it’s not close to the best in town.
5 Managers in ML History with 15 straight winning seasons?
I miss Bojangles
Man, do I ever miss Chick-Fil-A. I used to go to the one by my high school every other day or so. *sniff*
is there a more enjoyable announcer in the game other than skip caray?
That ball looked like it bounced 5 feet in front of the plate.
I’m guessing Walter Alston’s in there.
Cox, probably Torre, maybe LaRussa…and then two old guys. I think they just said that Joe McCarthy was one.
I have a Chick-Fil-A and a Bojangles a combined 2 miles from my place here in Athens. It’s a thing of beauty.
Well done, Jenkins…well done.
No, they just said that Joe McCarthy wasn’t one. I’m guessing Stengel, though.
Cox, Torre, LaRussa, Alston, McCarthy
Oh, wait, really? Oops. Sorry, Nick.
Langerhans is in a Francoeur like slump. He’s struck out in something like 12 out of his last 23 at bats.
Cox, McCarthy, Weaver are three – LaRussa out .. Torre has to be there, so does Alston I think
Actually, both Langerhans and Francouer are in a Preston Wilson-like slump.
Guess my hearing is deserting me.
man what has happened to andruw?
I don’t know the question for the managers, but I do know that I miss the hell out of chic-fil-a.
Chip Caray just said, “Ben Sheets has one of the best curveballs in the game. He makes good hitters look silly with that pitch.”
And now, ladies and gentlemen, Adam LaRoche.
well, whatever has happened to Andruw, we know it is fixable and he will come out of it…
Langerhans isn’t doing too badly for the year. He’s got a good OPS right now, and even his BA is ok.
Laroche with the walk!! Shut up, haterz!
Francoeur is completely overmatched.
Why not walk LaRoche with Francoeur up next?
I can’t eat Chick-fil-A because they cook with peanut oil.
world’s largest insult just sent Frenchie’s way; they just pitched around .214 hitting LaRoche, to get to frenchie.
That was so ugly that it maybe should’ve been censored.
Francoeur looked good that at-bat.
Please take him out of the line-up. He is killing us.
the brewers guys on tv last night though he was getting his weight going backwards on his swing. i was never a good enough hitter to be able to analyze a swing very well, so i’ll take their word for it 🙂
also, i didn’t say this last night, but laroche’s at bat against turnbow was actually very very good. i know the party line on him, etc, but credit where credit is due.
I can’t remember exactly but Chipper almost always is on fire after coming back the DL.
I have an interview with Atlanta Braves front office administration later today – yay.
Langerhans has struck out something like thirteen times in his last thirty at-bats. He’ll pull out of it, though.
Wow, Jeff strikes out…. again….. Pendleton needs to shake him up a little.
byrd, RL’s stats for the year are good, but since 4/17 he has absolutely stunk up the joint.
Way to increase your OPS there, Adam. I never knew you had it in you. Now see if you can take Jeff Francouer under your wing.
You go, Wryn! Good luck with that. That would be awesome.
I’m sorry, but Jeff absolutely needs to be sent down, disabled, committed, something. He isn’t going to get any better in this situation and he needs (1) individual help and (2) a chance to build some success.
I have an interview with Atlanta Braves front office administration later today – yay.
To do what?!
byrd, RL’s stats for the year are good, but since 4/17 he has absolutely stunk up the joint.
Yes, but it’s a long season, and people get in slumps and stuff. He may have started pressing with our best three hitters out.
I hate Adam LaRoche with my entire body and soul.
My gosh. Now he can’t field either. This is embarassing.
Here…
Ok, raise your hands if you are sick & tired already of LaRoche & Frenchy striking out or hitting weak grounders?
(Hand Raised).
Another dead rally.
Oh, and we started last year 9-11 and couldn’t hit so you have to pray this turns around.
Oh, and another thing like last year…the Nats led the East early by a few games winning a bunch of one run games and eventually they faded. Yes, Mets, we are pointing a finger at you.
(and I believe I am repeating a point Mac has made previously).
Um…he might have been out of the baseline there.
The throw was bad, but not THAT bad. Betemit should have jumped and caught it, forget keeping your foot on the bag.
Looked to me Cirillo was in the grass.
Ok, if any runs score off that Laroche error he needs to go.
What Jeff certainly doesn’t need to be doing is batting 6th in a Major League line-up.
And I HATE fans on cell phones.
Someone remind me why laroche is on a major league roster. Please.
Jesus…how hard is the wind blowing?
A throwing eorror by LaRoche? Someone shoot the man and put him out of his and our misery. I hate him.
Chip Caray: “With men on, the opposition hitting .500 against Jorge Sosa.”
Oh no…
Damn you, LaRoche. That run should be charged to HIM.
Hey, we have some things you can ask the braves front office administration…
The correct answer is Cox, McCarthy, Weaver, Sparky Anderson and Al Lopez.
Your AFLAC answer:
The two guys we knew were Joe McCarthy (sorry, Nick) and Bobby Cox. The three guys we forgot: Earl Weaver, Sparky Anderson, and Al Lopez.
Oh man, if we started charging runs to individual players, laroche would certainly lead the team.
I didn’t hate Laroche but if we lose this game I will.
Forget charging the run to LaRoche. The bullet I shoot him with should be charged to him.
My gosh.
Ok, raise your hands if you are sick & tired already of LaRoche & Frenchy striking out or hitting weak grounders?
(Hand Raised).
Another dead rally.
Look, you dumb fu(k, laroche walked that inning. He had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RALLY DYING!! If you’re going to whine incessantly whenever something bad happens, at least get your fu(king facts straight!!
Welcome back, Jorge.
Oh… oh no…
Jorge Sosa is Spanish for “Batting Practice”
Brad, you want to make a list or should I? (as far as what to tell the Braves front office…)
Bah. This sucks.
Dear Braves Front Office:
1) Bring up Jurries for LaRoche
2) Trade Horacio and Sosa for $50 o.b.o.
3) Send down Francoeur
What else?
Ok, Laroche must die, now his error cost us three runs. Now I do hate him.
RB, please, please do not attack other posters on this board. Just don’t do it.
Release pete orr.
RB-
What is your problem and why do you have to call me a dum f/ck? What is wrong with criticizing the worst first baseman in Baseball.
The new Alex R. thinks your a tool and that calling me names is pointless.
Go Braves & screw LaRoche.
Somebody please explain to me why we have a 3-inning pitcher in our starting rotation. Argh!
Pete: “Don to be honest with you, Sosa is fooling no one the second time around.”
Don: “High fastballs don’t fool many people.”
We could charge runs against individual players defensively and include the runs they cost the team offensively by grounding into dp’s, k’s with runners in scoring position, etc. Laroche would lead the team by a wide margin.
Seems like Sosa’s “good” outings have gone like this lately… doing decent and then one inning comes apart and they never recover
Should we bring back Javy Lopez to play 1B? (suggestion from the ladies)
AAR-
Thanks for saying it–I appreciate you being one of the classiest guys in here. 🙂
Apparently the mirrors Sosa used last year have been shattered
Stu, I agree totally man. What has this guy ever done to prove that he can pitch beyond the 5th inning? Sosa has to be at the bottom of the league in innings pitched per start.
Also, Wryn, the Jurries thing…please stop. He’s not better than LaRoche. I promise. If we’re going to do better than LaRoche, it’s going to have to come from outside the organization.
Hey, who loves ya, babe? 🙂
fellas, errors happen. jurries is reputedly not the slickest glove in the world, and we know all about jordan’s “skills”, so it’s something we’re just going to have to accept at 1b this year. remember, pitchers aren’t supposed to give up dongs either.
also, byrd, i think you can say fuck on this board, unlike on primer…
Wryn, see if we can a left handed starter or that Capalan kid back from the Brewers.
Yikes, RB, what’s your problem? It’s a game thread. People cork off occasionally and overreaction is basically a given. It means nothing and it’s certainly no reason to attack people like that.
My Doppleganger…of course!
As far as Jurries, here’s what I think…we can’t do any worse then LaRoche, right? I mean, he stinks offensively and defensively and is completely hopeless.
Jurries maybe hopeless too but I guess I just feel that it would be nice to at least give the guy a look and see if either aspect of his game is possibly better then Laroche–how about it from that perspective?
Laroche didn’t groove a pitch to freakin corey koskie
Ok, Laroche must die, now his error cost us three runs. Now I do hate him.
Yeah, his error, which was caused by someone running out of the basepath and betemit not knowing how to jump a little, almost cetainly caused sosa to give up a homer. Or maybe sosa just sucks.
Bring up Jurries for LaRoche
How does this make sense at all? In what world does this possibly make sense? If you’re going to bring up a first baseman, why would you send laroche down instead of releasing jordan?
What the hell world am I in? It’s like reading a talk radio transcript in here! You fu(king idiots are probably the same people who think putting in a 23 lane interstate north of atlanta is a good idea. God am I gald to not live in georgia anymore.
Stu
mccann 2-2. batting 7th.
Oops. That post had more to it…apparently arrow graphics don’t translate to this board. As it stands, just enjoy the presence of my name.
What the hell world am I in? It’s like reading a talk radio transcript in here! You fu(king idiots are probably the same people who think putting in a 23 lane interstate north of atlanta is a good idea. God am I gald to not live in georgia anymore.
Then leave.
Jenny-
Thanks as well.
I wrote a heartfelt apology the other day and while I am still going to get annoyed at dumb LaRoche plays, I made a promise not to get too upset if someone attacks me, warranted or not.
So, it’s all good and appreciate the niceness from good people like AAR and Jenny.
Again, I agree with what many have said…our anger should all be directed at Adam LaRoche (and maybe a few other players).
Wasn’t Jeff supposed to be the better of the two childhood friends? McCann is playing like an allstar, throwing out people left and right and hitting like a champ.
You know, I think that if I were facing Ben Sheets right now, I would look terrible, but I wouldn’t look more terrible than our guys.
At least I’m smarter than Ben Sheets. Take that, jock!
Hey guys, when the pitch ends up behind your feet, it’s probably not a strike (nor ever was). Just a tip. Hey, what’s terry pendleton doing in all this?
I did meet JS once.
Brad,
It’s funny that no commentator ever mentions Terry Pendleton..he has to take some of the blame because the pitching has improved and I think McDowell is doing as best as poissble right now with the guys he has. Pendleton is maybe more of the problem now then Roger.
RB you are one hostile, emotionally troubled guy. You need to chill out and relax buddy.
And yes Laroche is responsible for that homerun because if the double play had been turned the inning would have been over.
Terry Pendleton is eating, brad. Have you seen him lately?
Then leave.
Reading comprehension must not be something they teach at carleton.
I am just curious, b/c I’m sure tons go on behind the scenes that we don’t see, and he doesn’t set the batting order. But I just wonder what his role in getting out of this is.
My question exactly, on terry pendleton, when it comes to frenchie. Isn’t attempting to fix this sort of problem a major part of terry pendleton’s job description?
Can he start by expalining that trying to pull pitches 6 inches outside is something that batting instructors discourage, starting when kids are about 12 years old?
I’d say our plan to make Ben Sheets overconfident is working like a dream. We’ve got him right where we want him!
Good news, all of those run were unearned. Sosa’s ERA actually droped that last inning.
ben sheets is now 1-51. how much worse is that than laroche/francoeur?
maybe Sheets will run his pitch count too high from all the strikeouts and they’ll have to bring ole danny boy in the game… wouldn’t that be fun
Sosa’s pitching is not east-west effectiveness but just soooooooo simple. Was he a fake last year? Was it Mazzone’s effect? What is Mazzone’s effect! I know he’ve had bad control. This is hard to say, but I have to say he let me down.
Brad…I think 1-51 is close to Francouer’s line, at least?
This game could be 8-1 really easy.
RB you are one hostile, emotionally troubled guy. You need to chill out and relax buddy.
Uh, I’m not the one who wants to kill laroche. Or do you not remember your comment just up the page? Here, I’ll even quote it for you!
Ok, Laroche must die, now his error cost us three runs. Now I do hate him.
Funny. But you’re right, I’m the one with the emotional problem. But someone who says something like:
Forget charging the run to LaRoche. The bullet I shoot him with should be charged to him.
No, he’s perfectly stable.
Brad, good point. Maybe we could sign Al Leiter as a pinch hitter?
too bad we didn’t get craig wilson. he has 7 bombs! although i guess that would have cost us thomson, which would put us in a tight spot now.
I wish Kelly Johnson would get healthy. I would install him in LF in perpetuity this second. Langerhans and Francoeur can battle for RF and the crown of strikeout king.
Will someone please type something so I can put it in italics and make fun of it??
I have a theory on the “young bats” in our lineup that struggle (such as laroche and francouer). IMO they are getting pulled in all sorts of directions by a variety of people on the team (veteran leadership such as jordan saying to be aggressive, and pendleton telling them to be patient) that they havent really been able to develop there own game. fire pendleton, release jordan, make chipper hitting coach/player.
Doesn’t help that the umps call everything borderline for sheets.
That pitch to Chipper was outside. That call sucked.
But for your sake, RB, I’ll say this: I hate the umpire, and I hope that he goes home and gets at least three paper cuts while opening his mail tonight.
ryan c-
Really not a bad idea at all…seriously…Chipper as player-coach is good. I hadn’t thought of that.
And any scenario where we get rid of Jordan (at least) is a good one to me.
hey hey, andruw. i guess you won’t get fed to the lions after the game.
Italicize this: In your haste to criticize my reading comprehension, you failed to capitalize a proper noun 😉
Damn it… LaRoche almost tied it for us. Now he’ll make me feel stupid for almost believing in him.
Langerhans and Francoeur can battle for RF and the crown of strikeout king.
Uh, langerhans is the teams second best hitter this year, or don’t you look at stats beyond the present game?
lol at the fake rb.
I can’t watch the game but on Gameday it makes it sound like they aren’t making very good contact on Sheets even with the hits… any signs of life?
Langerhans is the teams second best hitter? That is absurd. He had a hot streak to start the year and has been god awful since.
J, I wish I could tell you that there are signs of life, but that would pretty much be a lie.
McCann has been the teams second best hitter, disprove it.
Well, jenny, to be fair, reading comprehension is valued and made a priority on message boards/blogs like this, while punctuation and grammar typically aren’t. Also, you don’t even capitalize yoru own name!
Having an .800 OPS IB isn’t fatal to a team’s chances; it is lower to middle of the pack, but not fatal. Having a .500 OPS RF is fatal.
I figured as much… at least they are still smiling on the pictures they put up on Gameday, at least that dampens the horror from the boxscore to this point
Wait a minute… LaRoche drove in a run??
Okay, I’m eating crow now. You happy, Adam, you selfish man, you?
“the braves can tie it with a francoeur hit’…haha, cute skip.
Bloody hell Andruw is slow.
That was painful to watch. I’ll take it, though.
There. Way to go LaRoche-y. He’s not the best, but he’s the best we got.
finally…Adam’s once in a while good deed!
that 2b was so inevitable. it makes me smile. i was actually expecting a long HR but i’ll take it 🙂
Francoeur–first pitch slow grounder. I’m finally out of things to say about this.
RB: the difference between your remarks and the others are they appear to be kidding while you act as if you are serious.
But I feel like I am wasting my time talking about this, so…….
Back to Braves talk!
If I was Terry Pendleton, I’d tell Jeff Francouer that if he doesn’t break out of this slump, we’ll trade him to the Mets for Victor Zambrano.
If he has any Southern pride or human decency, he’ll shape up.
..and then Frenchy doesn’t help…
This goes back to the point I was making last night.
If Frenchy and LaRoche are going to hit back-to-back in the order, then it needs to be 7th and 8th.
I thought the point you were making is that LaRoche should be shot? 😉
Italicize this: In your haste to criticize my reading comprehension, you failed to capitalize a proper noun 😉
Uh, no I didn’t. I don’t capitalize the name of that cow school.
But that was a good comeback though, really. I mean, you can’t seem to realize that someone whose name includes the phrase “from across the country” might not be in Georgia anymore. Also, you ITALICIZED a quote in which I said I no longer lived in georgia! How are you making fun of me for italicizing something?
The lesson, as always, you’re an idiot.
No 7th and 8th is reserved for mccann and betemit, remember? our two most consistent hitters?
is laroche in tee ball? he just tried to run around that tag by going 6-7 feet out of the baseline. hilarious. i really wonder if he even has a brain.
Yeah he got one run back but he cost us 3…. So he still sucks until he drives in two more this game.
Dude, she clearly meant for you to leave Braves Journal, not the state of Georgia. I see pots calling kettles black all over this board!
everyone’s getting testy having to watch the same crap every game. and bobby’s so damn old he won’t ever shake things up
RB, go back to wherever you came from. Don’t harass our ladies!
Did someone get tossed?
McCann has been the teams second best hitter, disprove it.
He’s the team’s best hitter.
my salad did
Amen to that, Wryn. I can’t abide a man who is impolite to a lady.
RB, you are an idiot.
Quick poll, guys: did Bobby take out Jorge too early? Or do you agree with the call?
Yes.
he was at 93 pitches. i’m fine either way.
Agree
Affirming a disjunctive: always funny.
Since the reality of LaRoche getting shot (or at least injured enough not to play) won’t ever be realized, and if Cox continues to force him into the lineup each day, then at the very least (and this was my point yesterday), drop our two most consistently awful hitters to 7 & 8—Francouer and LaRoche.
I agree about McCann…the kid’s been lights out and I would feel even better about the Johnny Estrada trade if we hadn’t also gotten a chubby little Oscar Villareal. For Lance Cormier alone, the deal was a good one.
Now if everyone on the team would please follow McCann’s lead.
imho it’s impossible to be “too early” in removing sosa; he shouldn’t be starting anyway 🙂
AAR-
Agree…Sosa, as usual, is laboring.
I’m glad we could help get corey koskie back on track this series.
If people are going to type in idiotic statements, then I’m going to call them on it. I don’t care if they are ladies or not.
Ladies don’t go to carleton. I’ve been to carleton. There was nary a lady there.
Here comes Oscar..
Seriously…Corey Koskie is going to miss us when we are gone. He might send Cox love letters at this point.
this is what happens when you dont pitch a guy for 9 days, bobby. and then you give him one batter? What the hell is he doing?
I hope we walk Hardy and pitch to Moeller.
I can’t believe we’re making Corie Koskie look this good.
RB: you, sir, are not a gentleman. You are a cad. If I had a glove, I’d slap you with it.
When the Braves are losing people get nasty.
Can we all cheer up if the Braves win?
I wonder if Oscar Villareal has entered a game all season with the lead.
Please tell me Oscar the grinch is walking Hardy.
Ububba, I know that if the Braves start winning again, I’ll start sleeping better.
Or, in the words of Ralph Wiggum: “Yay, sleep! That’s where I’m a Viking!”
ububba: I will take you up on that.
KOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLBBBBBBBB!
Nope…pitching to Hardy. I fail to understand Cox.
RB: you, sir, are not a gentleman. You are a cad. If I had a glove, I’d slap you with it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Where’d you go to school? Auburn?
Look at it this way, jenny is from Bama to me, if I had gone to Auburn.
Brace yourselves: Up in the Brewers Bullpen…The KOLBB…
now pitching for atlanta…mike maldonado
He walked him…thank God.
Look, if Moeller kills us I eat crow but in that situation, you do the right thing and walk the good hitter with first base open to face the back up catcher.
He goes to Yale, bro. Give it a rest. Please?
This umpire is KILLING us this inning. What the hell is up with not calling the outside corner against a right-handed hitter?
Because when the Braves visit Milwaukee, the bad umpiring seems to always come out against us.
Uhm.. no, she’s not nearly that bad. Spoken from an Auburner.
Moeller didn’t kill us. Chipper’s just playing third base like Edward Scissorhands.
Or worse, like Dick Stuart.
Respect (especially for women) isn’t based on what you think of a person’s statements
Only reason I’m even acknowledging such rude behavior is that I read this board because it had people that I enjoyed “watching the game” with and talking about it… so talk about the game or the team, take the other issues to some other board.
I predict we lose.
On a brighter note, RB is actually less irritating then the two fans behind home plate doing the travelling calls or whatever that is to stay warm in Wisconsin.
He goes to Yale, bro. Give it a rest. Please?
I don’t think you understood the point of my statement. I was giving him a comparision, not dogging Auburn. I just assumed he went to Auburn because it seems like half of the people here went to Auburn. Had I known he went to Yale, I would’ve used Harvard as an example.
Chipper just made an error, shall we shoot him too?
Agreed J .. who won the sausage race?
Sportsline isn’t updating..what happened with Moeller?
“Revenge is a dish best served Kolb.”
I understood the point. I was correcting your poor assumption and asking you to drop the ass-hole performance. Do you understand the point of my statement?
DANNY!
Okay, never mind…when to MLB and found out. F-ng CBS wouldn’t update.
mccann 3-3
This is great – at the mall where I work, I have the game on – people are walking up and cheering as Kolb gets hit hard. They hate him.
Too bad this isn’t in Atlanta… that would surely rattle Danny some right now… then again he prob wouldn’t be in the game then
Winston the Watercooler is going crazy he’s so excited that Danny gave up a hit!
Pat Corrales got ejected? I didn’t know he could still talk – he’s gotta be pushing 75..
how can kolb be shaking off pitches? he only throws one
I went to Alabama, so I have to hate auburn. and no, we don’t shoot chipper b/c he can actually hit, when he’s not on the DL
Don’t you remember? Danny doesn’t worry about runners reaching base.
If we can’t score on Kolb then we’ve hit rock bottom
I see McCann’s hit – anything else happened?
He probably wouldn’t have made it out of the bullpen alive in Atlanta.
Well, that’s demoralizing.
looks like kolb has turned himself back into “olbie dan kanolbie”. a 0.00 era in 5 innings work.
well here’s petey. great.
Great…Betemit has caught Francouer and LaRoche disease.
We should quit now
Wow, betemit hit into a double play, let’s string him up!
*McCann single*
mclay8823: kolb factor
*Orr Groundout*
johnymas: lol
johnymas: orr not
Ouch.
Good ole Pete Orr with the quick out…and God has just rewarded Danny over the Braves…this is just completely unjust.
Bad hitting is contagious. This team needs a day off in the worst way, I just wish they’d quit taking them on days we have games scheduled.
alex, laroche has a double and 2 BB in his last 4 PA, if you’re going to judge based on tiny sample sizes then you at least have to acknowledge that 🙂
im putting money on cormiers era being over 5 come july…did bobby not see what happened to him in arizona last year
4 unearned runs. this sucks.
I ROOL!!!!
Let’s start a petition to hire Ned Yost as manager. His teams seem to at least try, albeit not always well.
get out the brooms
Oh, I’m sure he’s good for at least 125 appearances, ice.
shucks, where were all those ground balls last year 🙂
Hey…Orr just hustled his ass down the line. Almost beat that out. You can’t say hes not trying brad
I can see the future. Any other prediction requests for me?
I can say he’s not trying. If he was trying, he’d work the count and try and drive something, not quickly hit a weak grounder.
Did Mark Fein just say “We’re going to go American League on you here..?”
He does realize that’s a common reference in the south to being homosexual. Just pointing that out..
To be fair about LaRoche’s “good” day at the plate, he cost us 3 runs with his error.
I still pin this loss on him.
So, no, I won’t give the guy a compliment. Sorry…but you need to produce on both sides of the ball.
I was away from my computer for a minute.
Did Dan Kolb retire us 1-2-3?!! Please say it ain’t so!!
did bobby not see what happened to him in arizona last year
Bobby has a long history of using his working relievers as much as possible, to the point that they always get tired at the end of the season, and I don’t think that one year of someone’s stats for a different team is going to change that.
Chip just said 37/50 games on the road to start the season…is that right?
Alex, LaRoche’s error was as much Betemit’s (for not catching a catchable ball) and the umpire’s (for not calling Cirillo out for being out of the baseline) as it was LaRoche’s. I think your distaste for Adam blinds you to his not-bad days.
if it is, it hopefully means a good 2nd half for the Braves?
As much Betemit’s and the umpire’s *fault*, that is.
Stu,
Admittedly, LaRoche has had worse days…I agree with that. But his error still shows his shoddy defense and it shows he’s incapable of not at least doing something boneheaded…agree?
And yes…I do have blind hatred towards him–thats not unfair.
Just a little broadcasting note here – Chip’s microphone is potted up way too loud – if you’ve notced, several times his voice has fluttered when he talks really loud – somebody needs to fix that. Wow, crazy loud promo music!
hey lance, throw strikes buddy
Anybody know who will be pitching for the Mets against the Braves next?
pedro, glavine, zambrano
No, I don’t agree that “he’s incapable of not at least doing something boneheaded.” I do agree with you that he should be batting lower in the order (I’d put him 7th).
I think the umpire feels Eric Gregg got a raw deal and just hates the Braves.
I believe it is Smoltz vs. Pedro
bases loaded, 1 out for bobby’s favorite reliever
Ok, that sounds familiar doesn’t it!?
I say we just start plunking everybody.
in the first game
I think KolBB left some of his disease on the mound and it infected Cormier.
On Adam…in what capacity, to be fair, has he given you such blind faith? I mean, I am sure you agree he’s not close to an All Star but do you genuinely like LaRoche?
I find it impossible not to be frustrated by him at least 90% of the time.
And this is my own opinion, shared by many in here, though not everyone–to be fair.
Smoltz vs Pedro should be fun to watch, great matchup last year
is anyone else impressed with this? it seems whenever we get a 1 or 2 run lead late in a game our hitters call it a day and hope the bullpen holds it.
but in every game this series milwaukee just patiently tacks on 1 run at a time even though they have the lead and their hitters dont seem to just waste at bats. i think its pretty demoralizing for our hitters to be in the field for 30 minutes in a close game like this
I am not sure Jurries is the answer by any means–I would like to see him given the chance. I just think it can’t be any worse or more demoralizing then watching a daily dose of Adam LaRoche play Baseball. He truly has broken my spirit and hurts my heart.
…kind of like the Brewers scoring again…
laroche is one of the worst first basemen in the majors, but he’s all we got. jurries, jordan, and betemit are all inferior options. sure, i’d rather have delgado or something, but it’s silly to whine about something we can’t change.
well the pitching doesnt really matter when you score 2 runs a game. BTW, remlinger gave up a run-scoring base hit to the 1st guy he saw.
Game over. The sky is falling!
man, our bullpen really sucks.
I don’t agree that Jurries or Betemit is a worse option then Adam until I see them play first base in Atlanta.
And that means offensively or defensively. I can’t imagine any ballplayer that can be as demoralizing as LaRoche, except maybe Francouer (right now at least).
Should say “incapable of *not* being boneheaded.” These double-negatives are throwing me off my game.
Ok, It’s late. It’s none of my business..I don’t know well…I’m annoyed, and humiliated by the rude remarks of collective insulting to rb…..country. He can also make an error. I’m really inconvenience. It happens again, I never visit this site. I have the effrontery to keep telling you guys what to do.
Again, this is just a personal opinion. We can all feel differently, that’s cool–I just personally hate watching him wear an Atlanta uniform. Kind of like Kolbb last year!
The problem with laroche is that he made a game-killing error today. That means that everyone who said to give him time and heralded his defense had no excuse for him. B/c if he can’t play defense, he then does NOTHING well, and his error brought that to light.
Once again, b-rule takes the words right out of my mouth.
Brad,
Again, you say better and simpler what I try and get across. The error wipes out a nice day at the plate.
Haha stu, I finally laughed after 2.5 hrs of pain…
Is anyone else kind of hoping the Brewers score another run so we don’t have to see turnbow again?
Now’s the time boys…
Gotta get’em before turnbow comes in
Once again, b-rule takes the words right out of my mouth.
Sarcasm? Because I couldn’t tell if he was supporting me, or if he was climbing on against me.
Sarcasm, indeed. I don’t understand much of what b-rule says.
I was sorta confused as well by b-rule.
well we can’t hit dan kolb or matt wise. if anyone’s waiting to make the MLB debut, now would be a good time to face the braves…
Hey, let’s see you guys express yourself in Korean before you go picking on him.
Meanwhile, this is depressing. So, so depressing.
Same here.
Ok, I am going to try and be on the bright side for right now.
1. Things can’t really get much worse.
2. The starting pitching has come around a lot.
3. We are getting healthier.
4. The best news is last year started exactly like this and we still won the division.
Good call alex. Thanks for talking me off the ledge…
Boy…how rough is it when I am the positive, voice of reason? 🙂
But I am glad I could help you, Brad!
Well, Mac, I understand your point. However, I wouldn’t go on a Korean message board and expect to be understood, either.
Nevertheless, if I’ve offended you, I’m very sorry, b-rule.
I’m ok. I’m afraid I’m female. I also sorry I get you guys down.
I just hope that we caught our share of the injury bug at this point in the season, and all our hitters aren’t going to go down again in July or August.
Right now, I really miss Renteria.
The offense did work much better before renteria got injured.
Unless you’re bobby cox, laroche, or francoeur, YOU dont get us down, b-rule.
ATL pitchers: 7 walks
ATL batters: 10 K’s
ATL fielders: 2 errors
Skip thinks it’s the 9th inning apparently.
Skip thinks it’s the 9th inning apparently.
Skip is just wishing this debacle would end so that he could get out of there.
And only 1 of those walks belongs to Sosa today.
to be swept in Milwaukee. God, that’s depressing. To be there in person and watch LaRoche play Baseball live…more depsressing.
I understand why Skip would want to leave.
He may also be down because TBS is against ever putting the Braves on in primetime again.
can you blame TBS? theyre afraid they’ll have to subject viewers to looking at turnbow again
If there was ever potential for a “strike-out-the-side” inning, Andruw, LaRoche, and Francoeur would be it.
moeller just told turnbow ‘it’s laroche. roll it up there, and if you miss, frenchy’s right behind him’
Hey we get the Mets this weekend, they usually turn things around for us.
Someone just hit my car, so now I am pissed.
this is the 4th straight game for turnbow; maybe he’s getting tired.
Well, at least little Adam hit the ball really, really hard when he lined out.
Well, he knocked the mess out of that one.
I think Francoeur needs to go to AAA, triples aren’t going to cut it.
Francouer has a pulse?
All Right Frenchy…he probably got the triple so he could stop having to look at Turnbow. We’ll take it.
Turnbow didn’t bring his “A” game for sure today, kids.. (crosses fingers)
hey frenchy, way to go!
Shit!!!!!!!
mccann JUST missed.
Oh, man. I thought that was gone. Oh, well.
Anybody else think that was gone?
um, wilson?
Even Mccann’s outs are productive…we could really use a solo shot here Wilson. Please!!!!
I don’t mind telling you though – this team is very very good.
I sure am glad cormier walked the bases loaded a few innings ago.
I think that was the worst at bat I’ve ever seen
That was a completely miserable at-bat to end a completely miserable series.
4 unearned runs and the Braves lose by 1. Yep.
well it’s ok…diaz was on deck
what was THAT? jeez
Dammit.
I think it’s time to get Rentaria back in now and have the regular lineup play…but at the very least (where Stu and I actually agree) is to drop LaRoche in the order.
I hate the false hope at the end…
Alright…
No matter the uniform, Kolb, apparently, is Atlanta Kryptonite.
And this, hopefully, is the lowest low we endure.
Let’s root for the Giants today & get a big Turner Field turnaround with the always-welcome NL team from Flushing.
Well, that was a very disheartening game.
I hate to tell you guys, I’m going to the game saturday, and my whole life, I’ve been bad luck at games. So we gotta win friday =)
well we did get four runs today
pray for a Mets loss – its 7-7 in top 10th. Bonds has 3rd HR of the year
