Anyone notice how weird it is that in the minors LaRoche was seen as a smooth glove guy with a decent average and OBP but not true 1b power and now hes seen as the total opposite…weak D, good power but cant get on base?

Anyone notice how weird it is that the Predators only lost 9 games at home all year, including the playoffs, but I was there for 3 of them? (out of the 7 games I went to, they went 4-3, compared to their total home record of 33-9-1) I’m beginning to think that my attendance at those games is bad luck.
Fortunately, (and bringing it back to baseball-y) I have the opposite effect at Braves games. I’ve only been twice when the Braves lost. Once was RJ’s Perfect Game, and once was the loss to Pedro last year when Smoltz struck out 15. Maybe I should’ve went to the playoff games last year…..
Considering all the giant phalli that populate the downtown area of almost every medium to large city, it’s nice that the Brewers are at least trying to balance things a bit.
Latnam I think you should travel with the Preds throughout the playoffs. And if you shave before May 15th you’re going to fail all your exams. (worse than normally!)

on April 24, 2006 at 6:54 pm
Some people, baseball people included, seem to think he’s gold-glove caliber. Other stat-reliant folk disagree heartily.
I’m a bad person to explain (obviously), but the way I figure it is that he’s real good at taking throws to first and not so good at fielding balls himself. I don’t think it’s that he commits a lot of errors, I think it’s just that he has no range and maybe isn’t that quick.
If that’s wrong then Mac or somebody else knowledgeable explain it better.

I’d buy the range argument, but he with the way Furcal threw it the past few years he was working magic to make as few errors as he did (and saved Raffy from a few).
1B has been a sore spot for us since CrimeDog faded into Bolivian (minus the occasional big play by Gallaraga). And we didn’t have anybody decent before then either.
Conversely, we’ve got one of the best 3B histories in baseball. So maybe its the tradeoff we’re stuck with.

I was driving back from dinner and was listening to the Braves radio pregame show. I was horrified to learn that Diaz, Jordan and Pratt are all starting. Then, on comes Bobby Cox on his radio show explaining that they “need at-bats.” I then proceded to bang my head repeatedly against the steering wheel. The guy manning the gatehouse at the entrance to my college actually stared at me like I was a nut as I was yelling at the radio as I passed by him. Did it ever occur to Bobby that you don’t need to start them all at the same time? I recognize the need to start Pratt once a week, but as far as the others go, is there any reason why we can’t stagger the right-handed hitters who “need at-bats” over multiple starts against left-handed pitchers as opposed to starting them all at the same freaking time, thereby ruining our lineup for the day?

Nick
on April 24, 2006 at 7:25 pm
I guess it’s not all that bad if we’re only facing one lefty every two weeks. The problem is you know that the time will come when we face three lefties in four days, and it will be against the Mets or the Cardinals or the Yankees or somebody like that, and we’ll get our ass-kicked in the series because we insist on starting the B lineup for the entire series in the name of “getting them at-bats,” which, by the way, is BS speak for “I’m doing it to start righties versus lefties, but I’ll say I’m getting them at-bats to make it sound better.” That’s my main problem with it.

jenny
on April 24, 2006 at 8:28 pm
Wait, how is it Betemit’s fault? Yeah, he muffed it, but Pratt shouldn’t have thrown it in the first place. Let Fielder lumber into 2B for probably the last time ever and take your chances with 2 outs. Did he forget there was a runner on 3B? That’s a really old trick.
mraver
on April 24, 2006 at 8:28 pm
Indeed, kc. I think it just reinforces the idea that Chipper should think about learning first for next year. At least, if he gets hurt again that sounds like a good plan. Let Prado back up Betemit and Renteria next year while Chipper plants himself at first.
Nick
on April 24, 2006 at 8:29 pm
If Pratt doesn’t throw, Jenkins doesn’t go and Fielder fielder steals second. I think Pratt saw that he could’ve bounced the throw twice and still thrown out Fielder, so he went ahead and threw it. I don’t think that’s really a bad play.

I have always wanted Chipper to move to first for the sake of his health. For all the people saying the first base position is not as easy as we think, I have seen Thome and Pujols and other third basemen making that switch quite easily. Of course, I don’t buy the idea of making the switch during the middle of the season either. However, I do think Betemit is a better defensive third baseman than Chipper, and I think Chipper is a better defensive first baseman than Jordan RIGHT NOW.
Nick
on April 24, 2006 at 8:32 pm
I guess technically you’re right, but that is a free out you’re just giving up if you don’t throw it. Personnally, I think it’s more on Betemit than Pratt. If he though Fielder would’ve stolen it, assumedly he wouldn’t have thrown it.
Dix
on April 24, 2006 at 8:32 pm
What would you guys have wanted Betemit to do there? Apply the tag and get the out? I think Fielder was going to be safe anyway. Pratt shouldnt have been throwing that ball, Betemit did what he should have and tried to cut the ball off as short as possible and get the runner at home. He had no chance though, just a stupid play and Davies deserves better.
Jay
on April 24, 2006 at 8:33 pm
It’s on Wilson. If he gets the ball out of his glove, he could’ve rolled the ball home to get Jenkins.
Nick
on April 24, 2006 at 8:33 pm
But yes, from a purely fundamental standpoint, I guess it’s Pratt’s fault. Just a minimum amount of awareness on Betemit’s part makes it a double play, though.
Nick

And he would’ve had Fielder by a mile and a half. He wasn’t even into his slide yet.

Attention Brewers, Nationals, Padres, et al: I love seeing you celebrate after beating the Braves. It means we’re still the team to beat. But I must warn you, your team isn’t good. You have bad teams. We make you look good b/c we’re actually worse. You see, our manager is on a quest to call up every player currently in our minor league system. And our general manager refuses to help us perform like real major league teams that enjoy the luxury of having a first baseman and closer. So we’re about 40% of a team. Enjoy it now, b/c maybe we’ll see you again when we’re a real team.

You are an obnoxious person and of the 60-70+ regulars in here that post, you are the only person who ends up fighting with me. Did you ever stop to look in a mirror that you can be an incredibly nasty and mean spirited person?
I owe you a thanks. You’ve made me realize that people cannot change and your consistent put downs of everything I have to say have made it very simple to sign off and realize that coming back in here was a waste of time.
May you stay in here a long time and continue to be a source of nasty unhappiness for everyone because that’s what you are good at, Stu.
No one else in here remotely pisses me off–except you.
It’s funny…when I saw your nasty comment about “no women being in the dugout” it could have possibly dawned on your arrogant ass for a second that maybe I wasn’t reading the blog all night and unaware that you were kidding. But NO, instead, you bring out Stu the arrogant ass with his nasty little comments aimed at me, like you do every single day.
I gave it one more go to come back in here and now I am done. I made a mistake coing back but your nasty little comments made me realize that you cannot change and your hard on for me won’t end.
Bye to all the actual class acts in here from mac to jenny to Brad to KC…sorry, I can’t stomach another day of Stu. It’s not worth aging me years.

Alex R. Stu’s comment was obviously a joke.
The fact that you take everything Stu says so personally and seriously is what makes it look like you are too high strung. I’ve never seen Stu say anything mean spirited, its just that every time he disagrees with you, you take it personally.
If you leave the forum again over this, I wont miss you, because you started this one Alex, his comment wasnt directed at you and you attacked it as being nasty, when it had nothing to do with you, and was obviously a joke didnt have to be reading all night to notice that.

on April 25, 2006 at 6:54 am
Please let it be permanent, not sure if I have read anyone quite so easily offended.
Marcus is going to play tonight according to Press Pass.
Hooray!
nice. any news on renteria? and i think we get chipper tomorrow, right?
So … do you have a sick mind, Mac?
It kind of looks like a beetle with its wings open to me.
I do not have a sick mind. I am a student of anatomy.
Certain anatomy.
Considering all the giant phalli that populate the downtown area of almost every medium to large city, it’s nice that the Brewers are at least trying to balance things a bit.
Okay, so it’s a little suggestive.
It’s not as suggestive as this building.
Latnam I think you should travel with the Preds throughout the playoffs. And if you shave before May 15th you’re going to fail all your exams. (worse than normally!)
Sounds like Mac needs to step out from in front of the mirror o.O!
*sigh* Guys can’t even let the locker room mentality die on a message board!
I cannot wait for this game to start so I can have an excuse to stop torturing myself with this paper about Nazi propaganda. Ever had to watch an hour and a half straight of Adolf Hitler talking/shrieking? It gives you a migraine.
so it’s locker room mentality we want, eh?

That one’s from my hometown. Doesn’t seem so bad until you realize its the only tall building in Winston-Salem, NC.
Where has the “LaRoche is a bad defensive player” stuff come from? I’ve always thought he had a pretty damn good glove.
I’ve always thought he had a pretty damn good glove.
But you were comparing him to your memories of klesko.
Seriously though, I think he’s a fine defender.
The first (only) time I drove to RFK, I thought it looked pretty gorgeous on the approach. It wasn’t until I was inside the stadium that it became asstastic.
Really, JMJones? I would have thought Winston-Salem would have been loaded with cigarette-inspired tall thin buildings.
The tobacco business has really started to fade out of W-S. RJR has gone down the tubes for the most part, and most of their old buildings were more wide than tall.
Well, it’s really the girth that matters, anyway.
That’s what she said.

I love it when the announcers complain about traffic/construction around Atlanta’s stadium. 😀
but they’re in Milwaukee
Nick- There really aren’t that many left-handed starters. I mean, just look at the Braves. They’re forced to start HoRam to have a lefty in the rotation. :-b
It’s kind of disturbing that we lead the majors in Ks.
You’ve got Andruw, LaRoche, and Francoeur in the lineup. What do you really expect? Oh, and the Reds have been hitting well. When that stops, they’ll take it over. 😉
Yeah it is, but our good contact type guys that don’t strikeout are on the DL and are replaced with “hitters” like Orr.
And it seems that we’ve been striking out a lot more in the last couple of years.
I didn’t know the Mets, Cardinals, or Yankees had that many lefty starting pitchers….
Hypothetically, people. Hypothetically.
Kyle is looking good! His control looks pretty shape tonight…
Right, Nick, but the season doesn’t go down hypothetically. Thus, your hypothetical concern isn’t a realistic one. That’s my point.
Prince Fielder is pretty big, but not as big as his dad yet..but I think he will eventually be fatter than Cecil!!!
That does always seem to happen at least once a year, though. Maybe it’s two out of three instead of three out of four, but it does seem to happen. I dunno, maybe I’m just dreaming it or something.
That would be quite a feat.
And would require quite a feast.
I think Todd Pratt has the best plate discipline of anyone in the Braves’ starting lineup tonight. He’s probably only second to Chipper Jones on the team in his ability to work the count.
With all the finest meats and cheeses in the land, eh, Stu?
Of course. Especially the cheeses, what with him living in Wisconsin.
I think it is always a feast to have Cecil and Prince eating together…
Hey, Prince has even already stolen a base. The best part about that, by the way, was ESPN digging out video of Cecil’s first career stolen base. That was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
Capuano’s up to 43 pitches already. He may not be long for this game.
Atta way, Matt.
Alright, Matt!
Diaz didn’t play last night, did he? I was just wondering what Jon Miller would have done with his name.
I think he pinch hit. And he mentioned something about Diaz’s family coming from Spain and deciding to pronounce it different or something.
The way Jon Miller pronounces names is really inexplicable. He butchers easy names and then nails impossible ones.
Crap.
Aw… Chip just called Skip “Dad.” That’s really cute.
Bad Bedemit.
Hoo-hah! So the Bravos catch a break!
is there any place online that we can listen to the game??
wgst.com is playing the game
If you pay MLB.com an obscene amount of money, you can. How much are they charging these days?
worst. camera. work. ever. by the Brewers Fox sportsnet TV people…wow and the Brewer commentators (sans) Uecker, suck.
Just got back and checking in…in response to earlier comments, how’s this for lady-like? Keith Hernandez can respectfully go f*** himself. With his attitudes, that’s probably all he’ll be able to get anyway.
/feminazi
I’m listening to a feed from WRNL, 910 AM from Richmond, VA. Try this link.
Well, apparently it’s not as bad as I thought. They must have reduced the price. It’s only $14.95 a year. However, you should probably use the free links people have been giving. 🙂
Jenny, what did Keith Hernandez do?
for $15, you can listen to all MLB broadcasts over the radio. I think it’s called “MLB Audio” and you can sign up at the same place you can get MLB TV. IMO, it’s well worth it. I mean, even if you only listen to like 2-3 games a month, that comes out to just $1 per game. Way better than MLBTV, IMO.
He spit on Cosmo Kramer.
Apparently, Keith thinks that women don’t belong in the dugout. Even if they work for the team. He actually said that he doesn’t think that their place is in the kitchen, but…
Let’s just say he made disparaging remarks about women in general and about a massage therapist while commenting on the fact that the Padres had a female massage therapist in their dugout.
I’m listening to a feed from WRNL, 910 AM from Richmond, VA. Try this link.
Amazing, that’s the first free feed I have seen in years. I’m going to have to bookmark this thread just in case my free MLB audio account fails me someday.
The best part was his lame attempt at a retraction later on in the game.
Wow, I screwed up that first post badly.
How is a throw from RF to 3B “a little on the right field side?” I’m having trouble visualizing this.
Prince is already a better hitter than his dad was…
Oh, that was a nice pitch, Kyle.
Motherf—er. How stupid are we?
Terrible.
Betemit is having a really bad game. Maybe this first base talk has shook him!
Nicely played, Betemit.
Ugg. Two outs Betemit has cost us tonight.
I think that’s the first base ever stolen on davies.
Well, it just proves JS and Bobby being right about not trusting Beta-meat at shortstop.
Sounds like they’re hitting Davies hard, too. 🙁
That was PATHETIC.
On a side note, did anyone watching on Turner South hear the guy yell “Hey CK, you can’t hit worth shit!”
It was pretty funny.
Two outs and a run.
isnt that just as much pratt’s fault as betemit’s? the other day (i think against pedro i could be mistaken) cox tried to do the same thing, but the catcher just held onto the ball once he saw the guy at 3rd moving
Yeah, Tennessee Brave, that was pretty awesome. I kind of lost my sense of humor with what happened next, though.
Not really mraver. It was a medium line-drive to centerfield right at Andruw. Kyle should have been out of that inning if Pratt just held on to the ball.
Question for those who know more about baseball than myself:
(1) Does that count as 2 stolen bases?
(2) Is that an earned or unearned run? I would assume earned since there was no error.
Indeed, kc. I think it just reinforces the idea that Chipper should think about learning first for next year. At least, if he gets hurt again that sounds like a good plan. Let Prado back up Betemit and Renteria next year while Chipper plants himself at first.
If Pratt doesn’t throw, Jenkins doesn’t go and Fielder fielder steals second. I think Pratt saw that he could’ve bounced the throw twice and still thrown out Fielder, so he went ahead and threw it. I don’t think that’s really a bad play.
OK, never mind, it was Betemit’s fault, but it was also Pratt’s for throwing it at all. At least IMO.
jenny’s right. It’s on Pratt.
It’s an earned run, unfortunately.
Well that was funny, guys. 🙂
Yes, two stolen bases. Earned run.
Patience anyone? Take a pitch for god’s sake.
Well, jenny was right the first time. That’s Pratt’s fault.
Did Chip just complain about our pitcher striking out?
I have always wanted Chipper to move to first for the sake of his health. For all the people saying the first base position is not as easy as we think, I have seen Thome and Pujols and other third basemen making that switch quite easily. Of course, I don’t buy the idea of making the switch during the middle of the season either. However, I do think Betemit is a better defensive third baseman than Chipper, and I think Chipper is a better defensive first baseman than Jordan RIGHT NOW.
I guess technically you’re right, but that is a free out you’re just giving up if you don’t throw it. Personnally, I think it’s more on Betemit than Pratt. If he though Fielder would’ve stolen it, assumedly he wouldn’t have thrown it.
It’s on Wilson. If he gets the ball out of his glove, he could’ve rolled the ball home to get Jenkins.
But yes, from a purely fundamental standpoint, I guess it’s Pratt’s fault. Just a minimum amount of awareness on Betemit’s part makes it a double play, though.
And he would’ve had Fielder by a mile and a half. He wasn’t even into his slide yet.
Nick, Fielder was not held at first base. The guy has a huge lead and a huge jump. Pratt should hold the ball.
As I said, fundamentally it’s Pratt’s fault, but Betemit could have picked him up had he not been a complete dumbass.
Alright, I’m going to stop arguing about this now.
Speaking of Wilsons, Chip Caray just mentioned that Preston Wilson has 14 K’s in his last 22 at-bats.
Holy God. I apologize for almost everything bad I ever said about Adam LaRoche–in the worst depths of his slump he’s never been that bad, and at least he’s cheap.
Remember like a year or so ago when numerous people wanted us to sign Preston Wilson? Guess that was a pretty good move not to make, huh?
Ugh, camera just showed KolBB. My eyes!
All of this chipper to first talk ignores that chipper’s offense is much more valuable at third and is one of the more annoying tired topics in baseball.
Ugh. I’m going to stay strictly at BTF for a while.
Who on earth wants Preston Wilson?
rb, if Chipper can’t stay healthy, where is the value?
You’re assuming he could stay healthy at first.
I really don’t like Diaz’s batting stance.
Man…the Brewers do enjoy their wild throws, apparently.
That was a balk.
Y’all didnt tell me we were facing Cy Young tonight…
Does anybody remember that game against Milwaukee last year where the pitcher threw to first to try to get Furcal and it was so obviously a balk that Marcus almost swung at a pickoff throw to 1B? And then the NEXT pitch was called a balk. It was so weird.
Capuano really looks like he has gained/re-gained control of the game. Even when the Braves get baserunners – just seems to me they are not getting good swings at all.
Somebody please get a pitch onto Andruw’s back…maybe Kolbb can help…
brad, the way the Braves hitters are swinging the bat, they are facing Cy Young every night…
This has been bothering me for over a decade: when Skip says things like, “Foul ball into the stands, and a fan from Racine, WI comes away with it,” he’s just kidding, right?
I mean, he can’t actually know where the fans are from–can he?
Am I being paranoid, crazy, dumb, or all three?
Will somebody call a ^%&#$$Q#*&% BALK on this clown?
does anyone else think the reason andruw and francoer havent dont anything in the last week or so is because there is no one in the lineup to set them up to get good pitches?
That’s true Nick. Chip will get hurt playing first base like Piazza, Floyd, and Lee did when the runners run into the hands. Then, Chipper will no longer have leg problems, but his hands will be broken…
Andruw’s swinging for the fences every at-bat. I think that’s his problem.
And yes, Skip is joking.
Personally, I think they’re in a slump.
That’s actually an homage to something that Ernie Harwell, the old Tigers announcer did, Alex. And yes, he is totally making it up. He doesn’t have a chart. You’re not going crazy…heh.
Maybe Bobby’s old age is getting starting to affect his head…
Naw Matt, couldn’t possibly be…
Just imagine the disaster that awaits wednesday when we face ben sheets…
Hey, Alex, did you know that “gullible” isn’t in the dictionary?
Actually, one of the more frustrating experiences I’ve had was when somebody actually DID write “gullible” on the ceiling of a classroom I was in. Nobody would look, and it was really there!
The only problem with winning 2 out of 3 from the Mets is that now Bobby actually thinks this lineup can win the East
hey folks. was it last year or the year before when Sheets struck out like 18 Braves?
The year before. The night before Randy Johnson threw his perfect game against us. Both LatNam and I were at that Johnson game, only neither of us knew each other at the time.
Don’t remember, but this year he could get 27
Adam-

Actually, I was also at the Randy Johnson game.
Wait–gullible isn’t in the dictionary?
ah, that’s right. good times. this is always the time of year a combination of injuries and Bobby’s love of lineup ‘tweeking’ gives certain a pitchers a shot at 20ks.
Year before. And then in the next game Randy Johnson threw a perfect game against us (with our own fans cheering him on from the seventh inning, I might add.)
Wow, Kyle is really pitching a fine game…
Although I still seem to be the only person I’ve been able to find who was pissed off at that, so maybe my thoughts on that are a little out of line…I dunno.
I NEVER understood that Nick, theres at least 2 of us
how bizarre this season already has become. less than two weeks ago everyone was freaked out b/c all the starters couldn’t get out of the 4th inning; now everyone is wondering why the Mississippi team is playing in Milwaukee. feels right.
Well if this becomes a battle of bullpens, let’s all just turn it off.
And the game before that was the game when Marcus broke his collarbone. Yeah, that was a great stretch.
If it becomes a battle of bullpens, this could turn into a 10-10 game in about two innings.
Actually, Frenchy had a very slow start last year at Mississippi as well. I think Frenchy will eventually be ok this season, but it will take him a little bit of time to get going.
oh yeah… actually, I think LaRoche got hurt in that game too. and Estrada hit 5 doubles… it was like last year’s trip to San Diego.
anyone care to predict how this ends?
dan kolb gets the save…hahaha
Ken Ray gives up a run on hits by fielder and jenkins, brewers win 2-1
skip carey is killing me. every fly ball he freaks out and my blood pressure rises.
Anyone else getting the feeling that maybe we should be trying to take this guy to the opposite field?
I don’t even know how the Braves can score another run tonight!
I know, Adam. I hate that. Guy needs to smoke a bowl before they go to air.
Kolb will look like Mo Rivera the way we’re swingin’ it.
Will Cy Capuano go the distance? I’m calling for a Kolb alert…
i cant even watch anymore…somebody tell me what happens
Take away fielder and kyle has a no-hitter…
goodnight.
well, what’s going on is Davies is just setting ’em up for a double play.
Yeah… not any more…
Damn it.
or not.
crap…
Hopefully Matt turned it off before seeing that.
hey leave him in bobby. he cant be tired.
Whoops. He killed that ball.
i really did…what just happened?
corey koskie hit a 2-run homer. you read that correctly.
2-run bomb Koskie.
Koskie came out of retirement to hit a two-run homer.
who? what? i think im the smartest one here for turning it off
Thanks, Ned.
“Bobby Cox would like Davies to finish this inning so he can employ a PH at the top of the 8th.”
WTF? He’d employ one anyway. What kind of BS is that?
Common Ned, I want to see Kolbb…
Kolb could be our only hope
Thank God Ned Yost is Cox’s protege. Now at least we can see their bullpen.
I’m so glad we get to see Pete Orr. I was worried that he might not get to strike out tonight.
If Davies were to finish the inning, then Cox wouldn’t have to burn a reliever by pinch-hitting for him after one out.
did he make it?
You know, we’re lucky that Marcus is so short. A lot of these pitches would be strikes on anybody else but a guy who’s 5’7″.
Why somebody doesn’t take a wrench to the head of that fan who is yelling near the field mike is beyond me. That man might be the most annoying person ever, even though he appears to be a Braves fan.
Come on, Wilson, hit another one…
Hooray for the Brewers defense!!!
YES! Now there’s a timely boot!
Nick, I think they confiscate wrenches at the gate. You’d have to find a maintenance guy and steal his. Too much trouble, especially when you’re drunk already.
C’mon DIE-AZZZZ
They should trade Weeks to make room for Bill Hall.
whats the situation?
Bases loaded, 0 outs, Diaz up.
Man, the brewers are bad
nice…maybe i should turn it back on
well someone was destined to hit into a double play there.
oh brother.
Why was Langerhans not batting for him there? Diaz has been terrible….
Don’t get too excited. We just hit into a double play.
we at least got a run, right?
WHY DID WE NOT SEEING LANGY BATTING FOR DIAZ?
If they don’t walk Andruw here they are morons.
F***
Because, Stu, that would make sense. And Cox is our manager, so…
Yeah we did, but our big inning is kind of ruined unless somebody gets a hit here.
Why is Diaz ever in the 3-hole at all? The 3-hole is reserved for people like Albert Pujols, David Ortiz, et al. Not reserve outfielders.
Andruw is determined to hit it into lake michigan. JUST GET A SINGLE!
Son of a bitch!!!
TP needs to work with Andruw. He’s been pitiful since leaving NY.
no big inning, huh?
Well hopefully we get the rest of our major leaguers back tomorrow, so he wont be the only offense.
No…Andruw weekly grounded to third, and they actually managed to complete a defensive play.
I am pissed. Where is the Bobby who love that righty-lefty matchup thing when we actually want to see it?
maybe we will at least get to see kolb
Well, on the plus side, we’ll now probably see Kolb. Maybe its better that we’re down by one instead of tied in that respect. Although I guess if they followed the book, they’d pitch him in a tie game, too.
Completely depressing to have bases loaded and nobody out and get only 1 run. Turnbow save situation…dammit.
Diaz “needed another at-bat,” KC.
It will be Turnbow in the ninth.
Bobby keeps Diaz in the game just to piss me off.
Oh that’s right. Kolb isn’t actually their closer. It’s steroids boy. Crap…forgot about that.
Alex, you are willing keeping your emotion in check tonight my friend.
Think he’ll pinch hit mccann for pratt? or is that too obvious?
im sure we will see our favroite roach instead
…and yes, why are we seeing the old painful inducing Andruw.
And why is Brian Jordan still on a MAJOR LEAGUE roster?
If he doesn’t do that, that’s beyond the normal stupid decision IMO. Although I guess you never know.
brad, Pratt “needs another at-bat”.
“veteran leadership”, alex. he’s teaching our young kids what not to do.
The more I look at the Brewers, the more it confounds me that they aren’t kicking ass. They have a great lineup with no holes and a superbackup, a stud ace, two (or three) other really good starters, and a solid bullpen. How are they losing games?
You see, KC. It explains a lot of things…heh.
KC,
well, it helps keep your emotion in check when you are only following the game online and watching Prison Bredak and 24 with your wife. Kind of need to be calm about sports when we are watching TV together.
Um, have you seen their defense? And bullpen?
Brad, I wish Bobby can just use video tapes instead of live action…
Pet peeve: announcers who cannot get the first names of various Giles brothers straight.
I have no problem with Pratt’s catching abilities. He’s probably the best defensive backup catcher we’ve had in awhile (probably since Henry Blanco). But he’s kind of lost offensively, to put it mildly.
Joey,
I agree…and with Cox’s mickey mouse lineup of Prado, Jordan, Pratt, Orr and Diaz, (not to mention Andruw’s slump) it’s hard to believe we have kept it close.
Same theory for remlinger. any veteran that had a good game 5+ years ago is eligible to come in and provide some ‘veteran leadership’. Bobby will find you plenty of atbats.
Pet peeve: women in the dugout.
Haha, I hear you Alex.
Pet peeve: Stu.
😉
Their defense is kind of sketchy, so that could be a reason. Turnbow, Capellan, and Wise is the kind of bullpen I wish the Braves had, though. I don’t think that’s it.
Good Lord. Don’t hit a fly ball to right.
as much as i hate to say it, i’d almost rather see laroche pinch hit for jordan. have i had too many beers?
Er…I meant left, obviously.
These Brewers announcers on ‘Fox sports North’ are openly rooting for Carlos Lee to hit a home run for some insurance and when he just flew it, the f—face said, “ahhh, that’s what we wanted RIGHT there!”
Ummm…people accuse Skip of being biased but what about this shit? It’s aggravating tghat the Baseball package gives you the home team.
well they showed a graphic that said their middle relief was the worst in baseball, like an 8+ era or something.
I’m still stupefied at how much the wind knocked that down. I thought that was in the back of the second deck. That’s quite a breeze blowing in.
Joey, I believe you are correct about their defense. I guess We can see tonight why their defense has been holding them back.
update?
By “kind of scuffling,” Pete means suspended for steroid use.
3-2, top of 9th. francoeur now hitting less than pete orr
Stu-
what’s the big deal about the woman in the dugout? I don’t see the issue…it’s not like she’s in the locker room and she’s part of their health staff. I think Keith Hernandez came off a little chauvanistic.
Alex-
I completely agree. That was a joke. You seem to have trouble recognizing those from me.
Well, there’s your answer. At least he didn’t leave Pratt in.
I just love how Francouer swings at every piece of shi- pitch and is hitting under .200. I just love that. Hey, Bobby, please make sure Chipper or TP don’t have a conversation or don’t consider sending him down to Richmond–completely unecessary.
I have to mute this Brewers commentator…he’s a jerk.
ok, i take that back. sigh, give me jordan. MY KINGDOM FOR A FIRST BASEMAN
Oh man…I’m utterly shocked.
Come on, Adam, be a hero…
I already said that I’d take back all the things I said about you…
The Orioles had Johnny Pesky thrown out of the Red Sox dugout because he didn’t have a permit or something. An 85-year-old legend (and employee, I might add) who absolutely loved sitting down there with the team. Security threat my butt. That was a shitty thing to do.
Plus, he acts like it’s a big deal that they struck out Adam LaRoche.
Why the hell didn’t we use Brian McCann? Or Chipper?
alex, he ‘needs more at bats’
Never mind.
With McCann in, at least it’s not an automatic out at the plate.
And yes, I totally agree about this Brewers announcer, I want to strangle him.
i assume its over
ok, so Bobby pinch hitting for Jordan and Pratt but not Diaz in the most critical situation. What’s the logic of that?
Uh Stu, sorry I don’t read your emotions when you post something stupid. I also seem to have a hard time recognizing that you even have a sense of humor at all. Shocker.
If we take one more fastball down the middle, I’m gonna throw something.
Yeah, right Brad! 🙂
Don Sutton: “One thing I know about these Brewers: they will never get near somebody named ‘Delilah.'”
Worst joke in the history of broadcasting?
could turnbow be any uglier?
mercifully, it’s over.
Someone needs to tell Turnbow that they are not casting for extras in “Dazed and Confused” anymore.
sh— Loss.
Jay, he could look like the Big Eunuch.
Please tell me you’re not trying to analyze bobby cox’s “logic”. I gave that up in 1997.
Thank you Bobby. You just costed your team another game.
See Alex, the thing is, everyone else knew it was a joke. Your overreactions are stunningly consistent and predictable. What’s got you wound so tightly?
Anybody else tired of road games yet?
Brad, yeah, that was about the time when I gave up trying to understand Cox’s logic as well. Thanks for reminding me.
Why is it not publicized that he tested positive for steroids? Everyone’s talking about how lovable he is, how everyone in Milwaukee loves him…hello, he tested positive for steroids. Doesn’t anyone think this is pertinent? Does nobody care about this? Pete Van Wieren wouldn’t even say it. He paused and then said Turnbow “was scuffling a bit” at his previous team. Good God, people. No need to sweep it under the rug like it didn’t happen.
Stu,
As evidenced by my comments, I am not tightly wound, you just have an nasty thing to say to me every five minutes and I have grown tired of it.
Alex R.
*sigh*
bobby, see what you’ve done to our message board??
Why don’t you just ignore Stu’s posts?
(That’s a good line, brad.)
Stu,
that was not the worst joke in the history of broadcasting. The worst was back in thduring a soccer game between Germany and the Czech Republic, and the announcer made a joke that, loosely translated went something like “whats the difference between a baby and an weinershnitzel…”
A wienerschnitzel doesn’t cry no matter where you touch it?
Apparently you are too sensitive for an internet message board. Just grow some thicker skin and stick with us here. Its not that big of a deal.
JoeyT, i hope for your own sake that you never ever EVER guess at the punchline to that joke…..EVER
I’m dying to know it now.
A wienerschnitzel tastes better with mushroom sauce?
unfortunately you’re getting closer. I will email you the joke. I heard it on the way to a braves game, my friend came out with it and it was so appalling it went beyond disturbing and into hilarious, but we were all in the right mood so it ended up being funny.
Jesus, why don’t you two just never respond to one another’s comments?
Please let it be permanent, not sure if I have read anyone quite so easily offended.
