Sorry for the delayed game thread. Ryan is out of commission at a family event this weekend.
So use this thread to comment on the debut of the Wizard of Wall Street, see Obituary for Thurston Howell, III | Gilligan Funeral Home (gilliganfuneralhomes.com). I’m posting this after the game has started, and the Braves have already scored two runs in the first three innings. Stop the presses!

The gNats score again with two outs and a man on third. And just like that the Braves are down 4-2. A huge two-out rally continues.
It absolutely does not matter who is pitching if the Braves can’t hit.
That was a fun three innings. Second time through bites you. Maybe the pitching coach should amble out from the dugout at some point?
Waldrep was looking sharp. First run scored on a bloop single. Then one grooved fastball and all of a sudden the Braves trail 4-2.
And then 7-2. For whatever reason it just seems hopeless this season in the first of June.
And then the human white flag, Aaron Bummer, enters. But the denialists on social media keep assuming that this year will be like all the others in recent years.
“Braves offense with some work to do,” says Brandon Gaudin. The only way they come back is if they do a week’s worth of work — at least for them — in five innings. While simultaneously shutting down the gNats from here.
The Triple Grybo with the stuck landing. Rare.
It does take a pitcher with the skill and ability of an Aaron Bummer to stick the landing on that. Not just anyone can do that
This team just keeps on finding ways to make me miserable.
Considering the Braves inability to hit, 7-2 is probably too big a hole to dig out of.
I’m here and I’m sorry to say that there are things better than fun at the ol’ ballpark when you’ve got these guys to watch.
The failure to take care of a crappy pitcher who doesn’t have much in the way of either stuff or control remains the dead horse I’ll keep beating, but Waldrep did not have swing and miss stuff today. As soon as things started going south, he lost the zone, and was a deer in headlights. It was obviously too soon to promote him. Hopefully this one hiccup won’t affect his long-term development, but the fact that we needed to call on him says a lot about our current roster depth, and the fact that we’re losing 7-2, once again, continues to say a lot about our offense.
Is it fair to talk about what the organizational depth would be if a) AA and the Braves had simply given Freeman what he wanted and b) AA had stuck with Contreras, rather than trading from the farm to replace both?
It seems like the long-term consequences of these moves are coming home to roost, because this team likely doesn’t have the ability to add quality at the deadline and is rushing pitchers up to the bigs, potentially hindering their development.
Yes, I do think this is fair.
if you can’t hit with two outs then you lose 33% of every inning. I don’t care what you say Alex, these guys MUST make changes to their approach. They get beat by walks, flares, bloops, and seeing-eye grounders with the occasional 3-run HR. The Braves should be able to master that approach with their talent. Apparently, Seitzer is a one-trick pony.
And of course, the Braves fly out with the bases loaded and two outs. That vs. CJ Abrams’ double is the epitome of this season. That is the difference between 4-2, 4-5, 7-2, 7-5. If the Braves do not score at least 4 runs then Bummer has no part in the blame.
And this inning with a walk, single, bunt hit. All with no outs. Good grief.
The Braves aren’t getting beat, they’re getting blown out. Very hard to watch.
I can’t really disagree with you. That said, Seitzer’s great success last year, seemingly, was presiding over an offense that substantially cut strikeouts while increasing power; this year, strikeouts have risen while power has decreased. The enchantment’s wearing off and the ballgowns are turning back into scullery rags up and down the lineup. I don’t know what they can do to fix it, but I do believe that if it were easy, they’d’ve tried it.
Maybe Chipper had a bigger impact last year that was attributed to Seitzer?
No Chipper this year, and it’s all gone to heck.
It’s tough to expect a lot of offense with 3 players hitting above .250. The pressure the pitching staff to keep teams under three runs has to be incredible. It’s not like the pitching staff is expecting 7 runs a night but every pitch has tons of importance and it looks like it is wearing guys down.
As Thurston Howell III might say: “Lovey, right now this team is rather lacking…”
Off to The Bronx to see the ESPN Show minus Soto…
Kelenic’s HR was 108 off the bat and only got out in the first few rows. I’d sure rather see hard hit balls bouncing off the wall rather than hard hit fly balls dying on the warning track. Maybe less launch angle and a more level swing is what would help. A Freddie Freeman swing instead of a Matt Olson swing.
Maybe Carl is right.
Why is there no Chipper this year?
Robyn, I’m not sure – anyone else know?
Get it done, AA!!
