The Ronald Acuna Jr. hangover game is behind us and above is only blue skies. The Braves need a win like I need a head of hair. Varsity, aka Max Fried take the mound today and the Braves need him to be great. Jake Irvin, a RHP, will face off against Fried at 6:20 CT/7:20 ET.

Braves number 3 prospect, Spencer Schwellenbach, is going to be called up to the bigs tomorrow according to Robert Murray. He will be asked to start Wednesday. Presumbaly, this seems to indicate that Ray Kerr will go back to the bullpen and Jimmy Herget, who has an option, will receive one. However, there’s an outside chance that Charlie Morton could go to the IL as his velo was a few ticks below his norm…and he was not so great.
Spencer Schwellenbach sits in the mid-90s, but can push it up to 97-98. He also has a hard slider that is his out pitch. Of the non AJ Smith-Shawver prospects, Schwelly has been dominant this year and, when healthy, is as good as they come down on the farm. In 110 innings pitching in the minors, he carries a 2.21 ERA, a .95 WHIP, and a 3.8 K/BB rate. I’m excited to see him.
Grant Holmes, who’s at AAA right now, has been stretching out and while he’s had no starts, he’s pitched a few 4 innings stints lately and will get his first start tonight. At the least, it’s something to keep an eye on.
Last but not least, Blake Burkhalter, a RP TJ victim, will be back on the mound and that is very promising as he’s a strong back end candidate.

That’s a bummer. He was having one heck of a season.
There isn’t a pitcher in the league we can’t make look like.vintage Gooden. We are completely inept at the plate. If you didn’t know who the players were you would think the Nats were the more successful offensive team. We look absolutely lost.
We’re getting two-hit by who, again?
It’s literally somebody different every night. There are some serious issues with our approach and lack of adjustments during a game this year.
Whatever kind of hitting alchemy the Braves have brewed up ain’t working. I hate how the Braves Bally announcers sugarcoat the ineptitude or switch the subject to something irrelevant I suppose I could click the Braves off and watch YouTube
At some point we aren’t unlucky, we just aren’t very good this year on offense.
Ozuna again… guy’s been our MVP so far.
Max made some really quality pitches with runners on base tonight. Maybe not as sharp as his last couple of starts but made big time pitches when he needed to.
If it weren’t for Ozuna, there’d be no offense at all. Gloom, despair and agony on me (I think there’s a song in there somewhere). So many K’s against so many nobodies. It’s absolutely maddening.
Has anyone noticed that Varsity’s ERA is now below 3? That is pretty darned incredible after the start to the season he had. I’d like to think that we’d have a chance in any short series behind Sale, Fried, and Lopez.
He’s one hell of a pitcher and I’ve got a crazy idea – why don’t we back up the damn truck and pay the man his money?
