Desperate times, desperate measures… Fun fact about Phil is that he was a HUGE Davey Crockett fan as a kid, completely obsessing over Disney’s Davey Crockett series. The obsession continued into his later years as he paid handsome prices for any artifact that related to Davey Crockett and/or the Alamo. He later went on to donate all of those artifacts to the Alamo.
Brian Anderson gets the start in RF and Reynaldo Lopez takes the mound against LHP Mitchell Parker.

I miss when Austin Riley could hit.
López kinda reminds me of Braves-era Jaret Wright.
There was an article on the Athletic today saying Riley is due for a second half breakout. Barrel rate of 11% and hard-hit rate of 48% predicts success. He also has surged in the summer the last couple of seasons.
Not even Phil can save this sorry lot.
I swear, just once, I want to see this team take more first pitches than it swings at. If you can’t get on base, at least make these pitchers work for a change.
Look at Riley’s AB in the 6th. Pathetic. The “ambush” approach isn’t working.
And the Nats have a run. That’s game.
Bad philosophy…it just continues. Maybe Phil Collins can hit?
It almost seems like would be better off with literally every other teams offense
Back from the dead! Duvall! Ozzie and Riley! The Big Bear!
Riley finally got one to fall in. Now the dam is breaking loose.
You do realize this means more Phil Collins game threads.
I’m on it!
Brian Anderson hit the ball hard. The offense got going. Hopefully that helps them. I feel for these guys. They’re hitting the ball hard, the ball is not leaving the yard, they have little show for it. You can tell the Riley is really frustrated.
I like a patient approach, but as I recall, the metrics favor swinging at the first pitch. When they aren’t falling it’s frustrating. It’s also frustrating when you have a hitter that chases a bad first pitch. We are going to heat up. It’s a matter of time.
Right. The paradox is that you need to be patient and get into hitter’s counts, but if you take strike one you are already behind. So if the first pitch is in the zone you’re better off swinging. Yesterday I believe other than Arcia, who swings at anything, they only swing at two pitches out of the zone off the starter. (That’s what CJ said on the tv). All of the first pitch swings the Braves took were on pitches in the zone. Of course, the idea is when you get one in the zone you should hit it hard. They were not swinging and missing but they didn’t square up as many as you’d hope. Still, once again yesterday there were several hard hit balls hit right at someone.
Here’s Eno Sarris in The Athletic naming Austin Riley as a hitter doing all the right things despite his disappointing results thus far; he’s likely due for a major bounceback.
