Braves and Cardinals, Game 2! Cy Young contender Spencer Strider takes on non-Cy Young contender, Dakota Hudson. Game time tonight is 7:20 EST and Braves are hungry for bird.
Transaction a Day AA
One of these is not like the other. We all know Soroka actually injured himself, but Collin McHugh just caught a case of the McSucks and that’s unfortunate because he was a serious force in the bullpen last year. Ben Heller and Darius Vines get called back. Vines last start was 8/30 so he’s good to go whenever the Braves need him.
Braves Lineup
On Our Favorite Canadian
I really feel for Michael Soroka.
- Gets the call in 2018, impresses in 5 appearances, and provided enough evidence to start in the rotation in 2019.
- In 2019, he establishes himself as a bonafide ace throwing 174.2 innings with a 2.68 ERA.
- 2020, 3 games in, tears his achilles.
- June of 2021, re-tears achilles just walking into the clubhouse.
- 2022, has to remake his entire delivery to reduce stress on his achilles and ends up getting in a handful of games for Gwinnett at the end of the season.
- 2023, starts season at AAA and gets several starts before his first call-up. He cycles through the rotation twice with poor results and is sent back down.
- Gets an extended look from 6/30-7/21 and results were better, but was optioned again.
- Results in AAA were much better and Soroka looked to be turning the corner.
- Gets called back up, lasts 3 innings, and comes out with a case of numb hands which suggests what is likely a fairly serious injury.
Like all of you, I’ve rooted for Michael Soroka from day 1. He’s intelligent, determined, and very likable. No person should have to suffer so much to do the thing they love. I think this could be the end of the line for Soroka and the Braves. And honestly, I think it’s time…for both parties. Maybe there’s another team that can help Soroka stay healthy. Wherever his path takes him, I’ll be rooting for his success.

Alright, let’s chat it up! Braves and Cardinals and we know we loath those birds!
Totally agree with you on your prospects post, Ryan – this is exactly what a farm system is for. The Braves farm has been extraordinarily productive, and they’ve excelled in the most important way: they have contributed to building a major league roster that has been truly dominant. In AA I trust.
It might be best to ignore the rest of the regular season. The team looks tired. I’m tired. Let’s rest up for the games that matter.
I think Strider lost any chance at the Cy Young tonight. This is gross.
Fugly…wow! Glad I’m blacked out, I guess. Need to get out of here and start chipping away…
Are we doomed?
Not doomed, but they may want to make sure they do enough keep a buffer zone over the Dodgers.
It’s a good thing the Cardinals have no chance of making the playoffs. Otherwise, we’d be in trouble.
If you ask me (and nobody will…) I’d probably skip some starts for Strider this month. I worry about a velo drop for a guy that pretty much has mediocre command and relies mostly on “stuff”.
Well this is a little bit like a skipped start. I personally like the idea of a six man rotation. Not to say we can do it with what we have, but if you have the pitchers, I like it. Pitchers perform a little better on long rest and it saves them a half dozen starts over the course of the year. A lot of guys are wearing down by this point in the season.
Well at least Soroka can feel good that his last start was better than Strider’s.
Ironic that Olson was in the worst slump of the year and we went like 15-3 and then the moment he starts slugging again we can’t buy a win.
Acuña going 0-17 has a lot to do with that.
Tonight was deja vu all over again.
recapped. And I think I got a picture on it and got it to go to the top all by myself.
