As we all expected, the Braves are tied for the best record in the NL with the…checks notes, Arizona Diamondbacks? But…that’s not part of the script?! However, the Detroit Tigers are NOT the D’Backs and they’re 26-37 on the year and have not had a winning season since 2016, and I’m fairly certain that the trend will pay it forward in 2024 as they’re dead last in team OPS and 21st in team ERA. Meanwhile, ATL is 2nd in OPS and 7th in ERA (but 1st in the NL). Let’s take a look at the Braves vs. Tigers pitching matchups.
Braves vs. Tigers Pitching Matchups
Game 1: Charlie Morton vs. Mason Englert
Game 2: Spencer Strider vs. Reese Olson
Game 3: AJ Smith-Shawver vs. Michael Lorenzen

Also, if you’ve not paid attention of the official Braves account, I kinda dig what they’re doing this year to push the Braves All-Star Ballots.

If you missed yesterday’s recap by Rusty, check it out.
Greetings from Frankfurt! Public Service Announcement: I will be recapping tonight’s game, but I won’t recap it at 3am. So expect something by morning EDT.
Vielen dank!
Sprechen sie Deutsch, JonathanF?
Nein
As a middle-school Kiss Army enlistee, who was actually born in Frankfurt, I gotta say, “Danke,” for that video.
Ben Ingram is terrific on the radio, but he’s an odd fit on TV. He says too much. The broadcast just doesn’t seem to have breathing room.
A month and a half ago if Ozuna left with an injury after a HBP we’d say the other team did us a favor.
Ozzie deploying countermeasures going into 2nd.
Marcel Ozuna’s Monthly Output:
April: .091/.206/.218
May: .297/.360/.626
June: .414/.485/.690
I’m sure it’s happened, but I swear I’ve never actually witnessed McHugh have a scoreless appearance.
Money Mike with a blast…
Who’s left in this crap ‘pen?
Never too early to start picking up the phone and trying to make deals, AA.
Also, it’s pretty obvious with Iglesias that when it gets away from him, it goes bad in a hurry. Look at the A’s game a couple of weeks back and his misadventures in Toronto. Might want to consider always having someone warming up at even the first instance of trouble.
Somebody told Iglesias he is throwing bp tonight. I am not sure he could be more hittable at this point.
Great sequence to Baez though
Make a play Rosario…geez. This bullpen is again a dumpster fire
Living in Michigan I am stuck with the Tigers affiliate. These clowns take fanboy to a whole new level. It was disgusting before we coughed up a 3 run lead so now it is unbearable.
Idiocy. Total idiocy. Yeah, it was a close call. But that shallow in left — don’t leave it to chance.
The final 3 innings are a masterclass in how to screw up. 5-1 up on a team with a 9-game losing streak. If it’s close at the end, this is one of those that will matter.
This one and about three others we tossed away. We had no business winning Friday night against the Nats so it kind of evens out but we really are not playing well the last 4 games.
I don’t know if a different outfielder could’ve caught that, but there’s no reason to not put either Pillar or Hilliard in LF for defense with a late lead.
Unfortunately we have DH’s playing defense in about three positions.
After this debacle I am totally not excited to go to the game tomorrow night at Comerica. This team has a way of looking like the best team in baseball and the most inept team in baseball within the same game, many times due to the bullpen and our crappy defense
This is going to be the A’s series all over again.
Just horrible
Bad bullpen is back. I have to notice that the relievers giving up the runs were exiled from the AL to the NL. I wonder if there’s a type that works better in each league. Minter was actually good.
Chill, y’all. It’s one game. You shouldn’t draw many conclusions about our bullpen or anything else. As JonathanF’ reminded us last week, we aren’t as good as we looked against the Mets, and we aren’t as bad as we looked tonight.
