It’s the return of Max Fried who faces off against another lefty in Ryan Weathers. Weathers was selected 7th overall back in 2018. In 2021, he collected 94.2 innings between starting and relief. In 2022, he bounced between AAA and MLB. Like Touki Toussaint, Bryse Wilson, and other Braves pitchers along the way, Weathers looks to be a guy that should be better, but has never broken out. However, luckily for him, he gets the auto out in the lineup as once again Marcell Ozuna strikes…and I bet it’ll be 3 times .
Transaction a Day AA is At it Again
This is just going to continue all year, isn’t it?

Nice to see them find a way to get Ozuna some ABs. Giving the fans what they want… 😐
Weathers does not seem to be fooling anyone…
At the game. An uncharacteristically cool evening. I don’t expect Snit will take many chances with Fried’s hamstring tonight. Hopefully we can get at least 5. The Braves were definitely tee’ing off in the first.
I still don’t understand replay.
What happened?
Bang bang play on a steal of third. I think they’d have upheld the call on the field whichever way it went. Tag and hand hitting the bag happened at virtually the same time.
Man, sometimes it seems like Ozzie is sleepwalking out there. He took three awful half swings in his first at bat and looked like he guessed wrong on every pitch. The two defensive plays were tough but he didn’t seem to go at either ball with a plan and was very indecisive. Then when on first for the Machado boot he seemed to be slow to second like he expected to be out and then had to try to beat the throw. Love the guy but sometimes he just seems to be off a bit with the concentration.
Sure glad we held Ozuna at third…although it was the right play. I didn’t expect Olson to get carved up on three pitches. Need Max to throw another zero on the board and keep the momentum on our side.
We’re about to pull Fried for seemingly absolutely no reason whatsoever.
Snit is trying to protect him, which I understand with it being his first start back and It is chilly tonight in The Whales Vagina from my understanding (according to Ron Burgandy).
Really nice inning by Lee
That goes beyond protecting him and approaches deciding beforehand and ignoring what’s actually happening IMO. I guess it worked out for now.
So far anyway…it wasn’t like he had a lot of stressful pitches after the first inning. It would be less of an issue if our 2 and 3 hitters hadn’t failed to drive in runners form scoring position their last two at bats.
Edit- More robot ump evidence tonight
Yeah…to be clear, I wouldn’t have let him go 120 to try and get the shutout or anything, but there’s no reason to see if he can’t get another inning or two with a depleted bullpen, only 80 pitches and no sign of trouble whatsoever.
That having been said, that’s pretty impressive by Lee.
Lee did a great job and it worked out but I understand your point…we have seen this type of thing go sideways really quickly many times before. I am just glad Snit let Lee go two innings instead of some type of Kirby Yates/Joe Jimenez appearance in the 7th
Probably don’t have better options than Chavez here, but this is a shaky choice against the top of their order.
(Never in doubt. 😂)
Chavez is going to F around and find out if he isn’t careful. Cheap hit but then you put the go ahead run in the box. It is a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off.
Edit- and there ya go…just how Jesse drew it up…lol
Recapped, if anyone is still up.
The Braves really took off last year in June, when they opened the month with 14 wins in a row. After that 14th win they were 10 games over .500 and had basically erased the Mets’ huge lead in the division.
You can really set yourself up for a good year with a streak like that.
