I would apologize for the tardiness of this recap of last night’s game, but I’m not sure anyone has noticed. We here at Braves Journal appear to have lost interest in this season before the actual end. Mercifully for all concerned, the end is indeed nigh.
What happened last night? Anemic offense against a pitcher who made his major league debut this month and was seeking his first ML win. The Braves managed just two hits and no runs against said Dillon Peters. They only got one aditional hit against the bullpen, but fortunately that was a solo dinger by Lane Adams (he’s been a fun story). On the mound, Teheran was the 2017 version of himself, even though he was pitching on the road. He wasn’t terrible, but he certainly wasn’t close to good, giving up 5 runs in 6 innings (on 8 hits and 3 walks). Some guy named Stanton hit a couple of homers for the fish; he looks pretty good.
The Braves had a chance to finish second in the division had they swept this final 4 game homestand against the Marlins. Now, even that can’t happen. What’s left to see? If you care, you can see Gohara, Sims, and Fried each get one more start to close the season and make their case for next year. But as for me and my house, our attention this weekend will be focused on Knoxville. Go Dawgs.

Yeah, my attention has been pushed to college football. Florida entertains the Vanderbilt Commodores this weekend sporting new (old) starting quarterback, Luke Del Rio. Why Luke Del Rio again? Well, our redshirt freshman QB has been struggling with his reads, and he’s gotten quite a bit of happy feet. Del Rio provided a much-needed spark that led to a comeback against Kentucky, and many fans wonder if we’d have beaten Michigan with LDR. Sort of like saying “he’s the best starting pitcher in the Braves’ rotation”, LDR is probably the best performing QB since Tebow. So while terrible in a historical context, sometimes you just need someone to get under center and make the routine play.
I’m excited, though, to see another Gohara start. Him and Albies are probably the two prospects I’m most excited about.

I watched a few innings (the first two) last night…this is the third year in a row now, I think, where I’m watching Julio’s last start of the year with the idea it might be his last start as a Brave. Those first two innings I saw were okay… Well, if that was it, Julio, it’s been nice rooting for ya.
Haven’t been watching, but judging by the numbers Rio Ruiz doesn’t look any more like an answer than he did his first stint.

Marlins have a 1.000 BABIP in the 6th and 7th innings. Pretty hard to beat a team who benefits from a 100% hit rate.
These losses suck. And Matt Kemp is a complete waste. Seriously, man, lose some weight. Such a slap in the face of fans.

It was so obvious that Kemp was going to hit into a double play that I thought it was too obvious. Never challenge “too obvious.”
Is Matt Adams not available to PH? I know one game doesn’t matter but Snitker is on the hot seat and losing a 5 run lead right now doesn’t help.
I can’t stand Matt Kemp. Straight up tells fans to their faces that he doesn’t try hard enough, has access to the world’s best nutritionists and trainers, plays a position that allows him to run more than the average ball player, and he can’t stay in shape to save his life. You will never convince me his hammies are what’s causing him to be this ill-prepared to play baseball. It’s a complete slap in the face.
If I was Brian Snitker, Matt Kemp would never see the field until Coppy fired him or Kemp got in game shape. I’d rather play Emilio Bonifacio than Kemp, and that’s saying something!
