Everybody be sure to follow all the unwritten rules of baseball, unless the Florida Marlins, guardians of tradition, take it upon themselves to unleash disproportionate punishment.

In their never-ending fight against Pure Evil, the Braves once again battle for truth, justice and National League baseball.
I think the Marlins play Philly next so that would kind of stink for Gaby to appeal and play this weekend only to start serving against PHI.
Seems like there’s no hope appealing for him anyway, he got off light. Not as though that’s always the determining factor on whether to appeal though.
And Kiffin goes for two after his first TD as HC at USC.
And fails. USC is in for a long ride. That is unless some other team offers him a job.
FWIW, I was more than happy with Lane’s first game. The defense is obviously a problem but we knew that coming in. Either Monte will figure it out or not, it’s tough when you have basically no linebackers (at USC!) and four new starters in the secondary. Lane actually went for two after the first three TDs. I have no idea why.
Barkley looked great, Ronald Johnson is a game changer, Tyler and Bradford are a good speed/power combination out of the backfield. Very pleased. Also very pleased that Virginia is the second game on the schedule this year and not Ohio State like last year.
The Marlins again? I’ve lost track is this the 52nd or 53rd time we’ve played them this season?
Masoli ruled eligible after all. Related:

That’s the last one I have. If I missed one, please re-send it.
Politics.
Three games for assaulting a batter is f*cking absurd.
1.Infante 2B, 2.Heyward RF, 3. Prado 3B, 4. Lee 1B, 5. Diaz LF, 6. Gonzalez SS, 7. Ross C, 8. Ankiel CF, 9. Kawakami RH

NINTH Georgia player arrested this year. I get that kids are dumb, but WTF? Doesn’t that seem like a lot?
Speaking of fights against Pure EVIL Masoli beats the NCAA.
Haven’t been this excited in a long long time.
It was a non-political event. Clearly it can’t be off limits.
Just for fun, here’s a rundown of Andrew Miller’s past history:

The last good thing he did in baseball was getting picked in the first round of the 2006 draft.
But he’s lefthanded and thus likely to give the Braves fits and make everyone think back to why he was a first round pick, if only for one game.
With KK on the mound vs. this guy, I honestly have no idea what will happen tonight. But, of course, I think we have the better bullpen.
And, um, go Brew Crew.
chris (UNC guy) once said that Miller was a better pitching prospect than David Price. LAWL!!!
From the last thread: I’ll be awful surprised if we get Good Garcia two weeks in a row. But if we do, watch out…
Andrew Miller’s ERA is over 6 in 18 Double A starts this year. Let’s beat him.
Didn’t we hit this guy around a little when he came in after Nolasco got knocked out?
Yes, and Joe Simpson complained about his callup for about 5 minutes; he argued that the organization was sending a terrible message to its other prospects by calling up a guy who had sucked in Double-A.
spike @8,
Richt is walking down the Fulmer trail.
Lane Kiffin is the Florida Marlins of college football head coaches, definitely PURE EVIL. I used to not hate USC, but they now take Tennessee’s spot as the most evil college football team on the planet. Congratulations USC on one of the worst hires of all time. You needed someone squeaky clean so you could get through the NCAA problems – you got just the opposite.
How are the Vols more evil than the Gators?
The Vols had Lane Kiffin and Phil Fulmer before him. Like I said, now that Lane’s gone I don’t really hate UT. As a matter of fact, I’ve been nothing but impressed with Dickey – I think he’s a class act.
Can I get a refresher on why the Gators are evil? I mean, I’m ok with it. I’m just wondering why.
They wear orange.
@10 Unless it’s being attacked for political reasons, such as because someone doesn’t like the politics of the organizer, as was clearly the case. Therefore it clearly is.
Less hate, more baseball.
Heal thyself.
22- The years of the Head Ballcoach. The arrogance. The running up the score. The location in the middle of a swamp uninhabitable by humans. The combination of blue with that orange. Will that do?
Not really. Last time I checked all your big name programs and coaches are pretty cocky. And if we’re referring to all of Florida as a swamp, I’d have to beg to differ living in St. Pete/Clearwater. We live where people vacation. Have you seen the chicks down here? It’s no South Beach, but it’ll do…
Have you been to Gainesville? The only thing that makes it look good in comparison is Tallahassee.
Congratulations USC on one of the worst hires of all time.
Thanks td! If it’s ok with you, I think we’ll play a few games anyway to see if you are right.
edit: Im done with Lee
[TROY GLAUS]I could have done that![/TROY GLAUS]
Andrew Miller thinks he’s a porn star with that ‘stache.
I’m beginning to think Lee sucks at baseball.
I’ve been to Gainesville. Now I just wonder where the other end of the world is. I nominate Stuttgart, Arkansas, on a cold November evening.
We’re also looking for the end of Derrek Lee’s ineptitude. Sadly, it appears to be limitless.
So far this Derrek Lee thing has been the worst deadline idea since TP’s second tour of duty.
absolutely nothing wrong with that 3-2 pitch
Lee’s Atlanta line is 209/ 291/ 302, counting that DP. An eerily close match to Glaus’ 2nd-half numbers (196/ 291/ 304).
Get somebody up. Anybody.
Miss Derek Lowe yet?
thats BS..he had Maybin struck out
ok, nevermind…can the lisp start?
I long for DLowe already.
@38
I don’t miss Derek Lowe; I miss Kris Medlen.
38 — Yes.
I’d like to miss Lowe, though.
The season is about to get pissed away.
Uggla smoked that
It doesn’t help the umpire is squeezing him.
*sigh* Good feelings gone. Maybe we can recover.
If we get out of this just down 2-0, that might be big.
There’s a break.
Chances KK is doing this on purpose? He’s got $6 mil or so gauranteed next season from someone.
#50 – no chance
why does this guy get paid to pitch?
make that “how”
You killed that one New Guy.
wow, Snitker held someone
why is Ankiel starting vs Miller?
Starting Ankiel against a LHP….sheesh.
Stuuuuuuupid.
Ankiel sinks to the occasion.
at least take a pitch, geez
Way to go, Kenshin!!!!!
Wow, KK did something useful! Huzzah!
Kawakami with a smarter at-bat than Lee and Ankiel.
Apparently KK learned to hit in the minor leagues. Now if he can just learn to pitch.
nice job KK
Can KK play center?
That’s no way to win a batting title, Omar. Still, the run was nice!
KK also had a better AB than Omar. What the heck?
quit f’in swinging at every pitch
This might not be a low scoring game.
@69, doesn”t a guy with a 340 something ba get the benefit of the doubt?
They wanted to beat him down Joe. They didn’t get to do it after the first HBP, so they threw at him again. This is not some great mystery.
may not want to keep pitching these guys middle in
nice play Prado
So he’s going to squeeze KK, then give Miller that. Great.
What is it with umpires giving the Marlins strikes they don’t give Atlanta? This has been going on for 13 years.
Nuts. Miller’s looking good tonight.
77 — well, he is left-handed
77- That and our hitters are looking bad (that means you, Derrek!) And our pitcher looks like KK. And our lead looks like one game, as of three hours from now.
I’m more concerned with the black hole in the middle of our lineup than the umpiring. You know what I don’t see when I look at the Phillies? A black hole in the middle of the lineup.
Lowe has a bone chip in his elbow per DOB. Will pitch through it as it can’t do further damage.
In other news, Hamels through four hitless innings on 47 pitches. And Kawakami sucks.
I’d say pitch around Hanley but you know Uggla will hit a 3-run homer if you do.
@36 Surely Freeman could put up numbers better than that. I’ve been really under impressed with what I’ve seen of Lee.
I guess that patient team from early in the season doesn’t exist anymore. Chipper is gone. Yunel is gone. Glaus is not in there. New Guy swings at everything, Diaz, Ankiel and Omar don’t walk much.
Just not the same team.
@84, and yet they seem to win pretty often
This might be the ballgame here.
And… I’m off to enjoy my Friday evening. That was fun.
Kawakami blooooooooooows
when is the KK experiment gonna end?
Intentional passes are never a good idea with KK on the hill.
@89
In about five minutes?
I would like the Lisp to take that rotation spot, effective immediately.
Can’t we do something to give Beachy or Diamond that slot?
Note to all contending NL teams:
Bring up as many LHP as you can if you’re facing the Braves in the playoffs. Doesn’t matter how poorly they’re doing in the minors, they will make the Braves look like fools.
maybe the fish will fall apart again after the 5th
Carlos Ruiz just lined into a DP with the bases loaded and a 3-1 count to end the 4th inning for the Phillies. Nice to know the Braves aren’t monopolizing all the Epic Fail… just most of it.
I can’t believe how bad KK is, perhaps we’ve been spoiled by all of our good pitching this year but sheesh… I’d take a bad D Lowe start over this any day. Hopefully this is the last time Bobby uses him. I wonder if we could trade him to a Japanese team for something useful…. maybe a RHP reliever with a quirky delivery.
or some hot school girls
McGehee singles to break up Hamels’ no-hit attempt. Yeah, I’m just gonna follow the Brewers-Phils game from here on out. (And Cain promptly wipes him out on a double play.)
Come on Heyward…
Failure with men on base is almost as much of a problem as KK.
You don’t get many better chances than that.
Terrible.
Hey! Scott Proctor! Feels like a spring training game more and more.
I’m a little ticked at Lowe. Shouldn’t he have revealed his injury weeks ago so we would have time to figure out the rotation. I guess it wouldn’t change things though. THIS BLOWS!!
Why didn’t these guys just tell us they were takin the night off?
So depressing that in the middle of a tight pennant race, this is the best we could throw out there.
This should be the other way around. Miller couldn’t strike out minor league kids to save your, mine, or his life, yet he has no problem dismantling the Braves lineup.
The saddest part of this game is that with some proper plate discipline, we could actually be in this thing.
Wow.. Whose job is it to get the Braves a scouting report on this guy? Because that guy should be fired for gross negligence. You’d think Miller was Santan or something the way people are hacking away.
Kawakami doesn’t deserve another start.
Nice play Hanley. I give up, we’ll try it again tomorrow.
@108
i couldn’t agree more
nice…c’mon Dunn
The only thing worse than losing is losing slowly. This game feels years long.
Madson on to pitch the 9th. Hart, Braun, Fielder due.
KK’s ERA ballooned up to 5.11.
All the Marlins announcers have talked about is how they hate Nyjer Morgan and how the Braves shouldn’t be allowed to call up so many players.
Lee sucks.
Phillies win.
yeah, pretty sure Glaus may need another shot at 1st
Freeman deserves all the ABs at 1B vs RHP. He’s clearly the best option.
UGH…we’re DOOOOOOOOOOMED!
Chip notes that the Braves’ starting pitchers this series are KK, JJ and MM. You don’t get that type of insightful analysis just anywhere.
We face Josh Johnson tomorrow and the Phillies have Halladay going. I’m a little concerned about our lead.
Ankiel is worse than Melky.
We have three centerfielders and I hate all of them.
lol Francoeur’s yet to have had an at-bat with the Rangers.
for real, why is McClouth still with the club?
1 game lead is the new 3 game lead?
Landshark has to be the least inspiring stadium to play in in this league.
c’mon jason we need 5 here…
looking for positive notes…
at least it’s over
#126 – like he’s any worse than Ankiel or Melky?
man, when is the last time he hit…anything?
Quick and desultory recap is up.
