It would seem to me that you could just as easily argue that a team which failed to pummel weak teams, but managed to win enough against good teams to make the playoffs, was MORE deserving of a postseason bid. Not trying to be contrary, just illustrating that the Braves’ fortunes against one team shouldn’t be construed as a metaphor for the whole season.

There has been a lot of talk of trading Edgar Renteria and his $9M contract in 2008 (plus $3M ’09 buyout, but some of the $12M remaining is being picked up by Boston — not sure how much), which I think is a great idea. Even before the injury, most of the names being tossed about — Ian Snell, Matt Cain, other young power arms — weren’t too realistic. Noah Lowry is a realistic option. He is overachieving a bit this year with a lower 3’s ERA despite a high WHIP and low K total (pitching in SF doesn’t hurt, although he also has something like 13 wins for SF, which is difficult), but he is a solid #3 starter in the NL. He is due to make $2.25M next year and $4.5M in ’09. The Giants have Lincecum, Cain, Zito and probably Jonathan Sanchez with no offense. The Braves are set to go with Yunel Escobar. I think if you were giving odds on Renteria having a better offensive season than Escobar next year you would have to go at about 1.5 to 1, to say nothing of defense.
Then they should sign Livan Hernandez. Given the inflated market for pitchers, perhaps 2 years, $10M? It might take a little more than that or maybe roughly the same but with a third year. A proven innings eater of the first degree, the type of pitcher that “keeps you in the game.” That is a cliche, yes, though it is what the Braves need out of the four slot in the rotation.
For the fifth spot, I think you have to give Mike Hampton the opportunity given his contract, with Chuck James as the more likely possibility. If Hampton is back, you can trade James, who has a little bit of value.
With these two developments, all things considered, you have traded Edgar for Escobar, Lowry and Livan. Smoltz, Hudson, Lowry, Livan is a nice rotation to go with an offense of Chipper, Escobar, Johnson, Teixeira, McCann, Francouer, Harris/Diaz and whoever you get to replace Andruw. I think Mike Cameron at 4 years/$36M or so is the best bet. Those that suggest playing both Harris and Diaz everyday in left and center regardless of the pitcher are underestimating the value of platooning and the deception in their stats as a result of that. Who knows, maybe not Cameron, but the point is that by trading Renteria for Lowry and signing Livan you have addressed the pitching issue and don’t have to think about allocating the money that becomes available when Andruw leaves to that.

I don’t doubt that Harris is not an everyday player, but I do think Diaz deserves a shot to be the everyday left fielder, even with his poor defense. He’s a very good hitter with gap power regardless of how much he plays. We knew this before he came over from KC, who was run, until quite recently, by morons, and he has delivered as expected. I actually would be surprised to see Harris on the roster next year; the Braves rarely try to make their reclamation projects multi-year projects…

you have a guy picked off on a move that nobody NOBODY, is ever fooled on, you have not one but two men dead in the water . . . and you get no one and give up a homerun on the next pitch.
Right now it’s Smoltz, Hudson and 3 losses in a row.. You’re not going to make it anywhere like that.

Okay, I have counted to ten before posting, I promise. But can’t this team put someone out there to pitch that isn’t a AAAA guy? We have two studs and a bunch of crap. I know, I know, Hampton would have made things better – are you kidding me? Is payroll that bad, or management that niave, to think that this was going to pass as a starting rotation? I know the market at the trade deadline was very thin, but why did we go into this season with this garbage? Oh yeah, we were counting on Cormier…. At some point, doesn’t the farm system need to develop someone, anyone, that can get guys out?
Okay, I feel better now.

Adam

@52: we did develop someone, his name’s Adam Wainwright.
Dan
on August 23, 2007 at 7:08 pm
We’ve been through this, James and Wainwright have basically the same numbers. Just a couple of weeks ago, James had a much lower ERA, more strikeouts, fewer walks and a lower WHIP than Wainwright, but a few bad starts from James have changed that and landed him on the DL.
Personally, I’m really tired of all the Wainwright stuff. “Wow, that Wainwright kid is so good, wish the Braves could develop some like that.” What? Everyone complains about James and acts like Wainwright is a #1 starter putting up number tantamount to that of Smoltz and Hudson. All this because he saved a two run lead in game seven of the NLCS last season? The odds are Lance Cormier could have closed out that game. One more base hit (remember Wainwright allowed the Mets to load the bases) and no one here would be saying a word about him.
Wainwright is a league average starter, nothing more.
JJ
on August 23, 2007 at 7:09 pm
@56 – thanks, I was hoping not to be reminded of that. I guess you could throw Jason Marquis into that group as well. I am too frustrated to do it right now, but I wonder what would be considered “good” for developing starting pitchers. In other words, what does a good system turn out every couple of years? For a farm system that is supposedly the model upon which all other farm systems are judged, it would seem that starting pitchers over the past say 10 years are few and far between. Or, maybe I’m just expecting too much. We can look at position players over the past 3 years or so and see some results, but nothing for the staff.
Adam

Adam M
on August 23, 2007 at 7:12 pm
The Braves desperately need a league-average starter.
Jeremy
on August 23, 2007 at 7:14 pm
There’s things with pitchers called stuff and projectability. Wainwright could potentially develop into an ace — this is his first season as a ML starter, by the way. Chuck James is a two pitch pitcher. His upside is a #3.
Dan
on August 23, 2007 at 7:15 pm
James has three pitches: fastball, changeup and slider.
Adam M
on August 23, 2007 at 7:18 pm
It doesn’t matter, he ain’t on the Braves and won’t be for the foreseeable future.
JS didn’t address the rotation, which was average and paper thin, and now with James hurt, it’s just awful. Even if Hudson and Smoltz pitch complete game shutouts every night the Braves would only win 45% of the time; that’s how awful their 3-4-5 guys are. The Phillies might be pushing it too, now with Hamels out, but the Padres just have too much pitching. And so too do the Dodgers, for what it’s worth. The Braves are done this year. Nobody in their right mind would expect a team with Carlyle, Cormier, and Reyes to compete for a playoff birth.
Jeremy
on August 23, 2007 at 7:19 pm
James throws the slider maybe once or twice a game and only to left-handers. I would hardly call that a third pitch.
Wainwright since the All Star break:
8 starts, 7 quality starts, 2.67 ERA
He spends most of his career on pathetic Ranger teams…then he finally comes to a “contender”, he bats his ass off and the team basically rolls over and plays dead.
I wish we had a healthy Chuck James, a healthy Mike Hampton, a healthy Mike Gonzalez, a 100% John Smoltz, a competent Bob Wickman and a non-exhausted Rafael Soriano.
That’s really all I ask for
Dan

csg

let me see if this is right
in the first we score 1, McCann is robbed of a base hit, and Frenchy misses a 3 run hr by a foot
in the 2nd, Buddy throws a perfect strike to Hamilton that is called a ball, we then fail to get a runner out on a perfect pick off move, and then Hamilton hits a 3 run hr and Bobby gets tossed
we now have tied the game at 5 and then we, like in every other game, give them the lead again…

Did Prado pinch hit for Corky Miller? I think the graphic said it was Miller Harris and Johnson due in this inning. Surely they were wrong and that was the pitchers spot.

joesteve
on August 23, 2007 at 9:38 pm
Keppinger is hitting about .800 against the Braves.
With the frequency that this team enters into extra-inning games, I’m going to suggest no more pinch-running or double switching guys in late innings. This is part of why we lose these games, b/c Prado and Miller and usually Thorman are in the game.

disgruntledfan, I know this season is starting to really suck and the Braves lost to the f-ing Reds again, but stop with the hyperbole. The Braves are much better than the Rangers, and they have probably a 10% chance of making the playoffs to the Rangers’ 0%.

I agree on the kids. I’d like to see B Jones and Lillibridge at this point, just to give them a taste.
If the Rangers played the Braves, especially with our 3 thru 5 pitchers, they’d blitz them for 10 to 15 runs. So, yeah, right now, even the Rangers are better.
Another disgusting series.

disgruntledfan
on August 23, 2007 at 10:57 pm
I’m not really that disgruntled. It’s just a name.
If Moylan was the Braves’ closer and had 25-30 saves, he’d be in the talks for Rookie of the Year.
In talk, sure, but Ryan Braun is having one of the best offensive season’s a rookie has ever had.
And if he sang and wore his shirt open to the navel, he’d be a Bee Gee.
He’s no Jimmy Fallon.
Hopefully Buddy’s last few performances have been influenced by the bad elbow and he can get a little closer to “Good Buddy” before this group loses its “handle.”
The Phillies have already lost. Glavine is pitching tonight, so the Padres stand to lose. Let’s hope Buddy can outpitch this nobody Cincinnati is starting today or at least that the Braves can outslug the Reds.
Braves still in third place (tied for second if they win tonight) in the wildcard, only 2.0 games behind the frontrunning Padres.
Hope still lives.
Side question:
Anyone going to St Louis for that series?
Edgar out at least another week in a best case scenario. He heard a pop. Great.
You know what really needs to happen? Someone on this team needs to absolutely flip a shit. I really, really want to see these guys get mad as hell and not take it out on each other, or Bobby, or JS, or Liberty, but take it out on the other teams. Just moitilate the bums.
You know?
We need a Paul O’neil or Kirk Gibson…well hell we’ve needed someone like that ever since Justice left.
We just need better starting pitching.
and more timely hitting.
and better Braves Journal posters
And better defense.
And smarter baserunning.
And a better bullpen.
someone may need to send me a zoloft and put me on suicide watch if we lose tonight.
I wish the Braves could play with nearly as much fire as people on this board have.
If anyone here really thinks these guys arent trying, or dont care as much as we do about winning and loosing, then you need to talk a long walk off a short pier.
A tad extreme, no?
They’re trying, it’s just pitchers like Brandon Webb can really make it look like they’re not.
I still don’t know why they haven’t scored any runs recently against a bad Reds’ bullpen.
Looks like David Wells is going to sign with the Dodgers.
Watch him pitch brilliantly down the stretch.
If the Braves go 1-6 against the Reds, in no way do they deserve to go to the playoffs. Wait, 2-5 isn’t even respectable.
I’m breathless in anticipation over what becomes of our leadoff hitter on the basepaths.
Kelly Johnson bunting. Brilliant.
Chipper.
um, why was he bunting?
I guess Cox wants to play some smallball tonight.
More poor baserunning. Imagine that.
andruw looks as though he’s not picking the ball up well. i’ve never seen that in him.
Awesome fellas…
/sarcasm
Season over. Fun while it lasted; better luck next year.
Andruw needs to lose a few pounds.
yes…season completely over…35 games…absolutely no chance at catching the mediocroty that is the padres and phillies. complain about the individual games, complain about the managing, but seriously, the wild card is still well in reach.
Simply amazing. Fucken unpire.
Buddy Carlyle is pitching like … Buddy Carlyle

When you can’t even beat the Reds…
We don’t deserve to make the play-offs. We really don’t
Should have gotten the out on that pick-off move.
buddy carlyle is probably a 5.00 era pitcher now.
The Braves wet the bed with astonishing regularity three out of every five games. They’re not winning the wild card.
5.07….4th starter….WE NEED SOME F’IN PITCHING!!!!!!
How good is Josh Hamilton?
hahahaha, Bobby threw a chair
Bobby doesn’t even want to be around for this one
you have a guy picked off on a move that nobody NOBODY, is ever fooled on, you have not one but two men dead in the water . . . and you get no one and give up a homerun on the next pitch.
this team . . . .
“The Braves wet the bed with astonishing regularity three out of every five games.”
Finally someone says it.
Three quick outs in response to that five run Reds’ inning? Unofficial surrender?
I was thinking the same thing Dan.
@52: we did develop someone, his name’s Adam Wainwright.
Listen, I’ve never said I think Wainwright’s an ace. I like him, and I like Chuck James. I’d take both of them over what we have.
I’d rather have Wainwright than Chuck.
That wasn’t directed at you Adam, that rant was building in me for a good while now and your Wainwright mention set it off.
@58 – I agree that Wainwright isn’t a Cy Young winner, but wouldn’t you settle for league average right about now? I am admittedly down on James for now, but these other guys (and their replacements, and their replacements, etc.) are just awful.
The Braves desperately need a league-average starter.
There’s things with pitchers called stuff and projectability. Wainwright could potentially develop into an ace — this is his first season as a ML starter, by the way. Chuck James is a two pitch pitcher. His upside is a #3.
James has three pitches: fastball, changeup and slider.
James throws the slider maybe once or twice a game and only to left-handers. I would hardly call that a third pitch.
Wainwright since the All Star break:
8 starts, 7 quality starts, 2.67 ERA
Poor Mark Teixeira.
He spends most of his career on pathetic Ranger teams…then he finally comes to a “contender”, he bats his ass off and the team basically rolls over and plays dead.
Chipper ends the insanity.
Chipper can hit a little bit.
Woooo
I wish we had a healthy Chuck James right now.
I wish we had a healthy Chuck James, a healthy Mike Hampton, a healthy Mike Gonzalez, a 100% John Smoltz, a competent Bob Wickman and a non-exhausted Rafael Soriano.
That’s really all I ask for
The Braves can never hold anyone after they come back to tie or take the lead it seems. Always the same frickin’ inning too.
It’s like clockwork.
This season is going slowly down the toilet. I am really depressed how quickly we give up a lead.
let me see if this is right
in the first we score 1, McCann is robbed of a base hit, and Frenchy misses a 3 run hr by a foot
in the 2nd, Buddy throws a perfect strike to Hamilton that is called a ball, we then fail to get a runner out on a perfect pick off move, and then Hamilton hits a 3 run hr and Bobby gets tossed
we now have tied the game at 5 and then we, like in every other game, give them the lead again…
Majewski has an era over 10 and we cant hit him…we cant beat this team, nice!!!
Rule that I’d most like to see enforced: minimum distances to the wall as stated in the book.
I’m liking this Encarnacion guy.
Thorman?! Not Diaz?
2 infield hits??? does Buddy hit here?
did Prado get called back up?
no Diaz but Thorman
Dan, we think alike…Im sure after Thorman strikes out Diaz will hit for Willie
Now we get a lefty to pitch to Thorman
Why in God’s name is Bobby not using Diaz here rather than that joke Thorman?
Alex, Cox is gone. Though he probably told the acting manager to do it.
seriously, now that they are bringing in a lefty I almost can guarantee that Diaz hits for Willie again, why cant we just put our best hitters out there on the first attempt and leave the garbage on the bench?
.341 avg for lefties against Stanton, lets show why their pen is garbage….
Bobby is proving again what a horrible decision maker he is as an in game mgr.
csg, yeah, Prado was reactivated. I don’t know if “called up” is accurate, as he never left Cincinatti.

Nice decision, Bobby. He’s baffling.
Wow. That was predictable.
good thing Diaz is watching
I wanted to give myself a night off from this mess. Nevertheless, I find myself watching this game and becoming far too angry. Same s#@%, different night.
feel, just like you overlords. But if we lose this game and lose 6 of 7 to the freaking Reds, then we are a giant joke and can kiss our playoff hopes completely goodbye (at this pt.)
Easy inning for Mahay, top of the order coming up.
97 —
That’s what I found myself saying this afternoon after I got a call from the parents back home … but even with three God-awful starters, I’m still in the “anger” stage. I might be at “bargaining” by the end of this game and all the way to “acceptance” by the end of the weekend.
Chipper really wants to win.
Chipper can hit well.
Chipper for MVP
Tex!
That was pretty ballsy by Chipper. Good work.
Tex! A lead! Who would have guessed?
Tex and Chip realize that they’ll have to do everything by themselves
Chipper and Tex have all of our RBIs this game. I guess that’s why they’re the heart of our lineup. It would be nice, though, if they didn’t have to do all the work.
No smiles from me unless we get through the bottom of the seventh with this lead. Forget about winning — right now I have the simplest short-term goal; I just want to end an inning in front.
Frenchy has seen six pitches in five at-bats. That’s incredible. I thought he had gotten more patient. Guess not.
What, again?!
ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!
we will never ever beat the Reds at this point…no matter what we try.
And what, is this like the 18th time in a row Moylan has pitched?
the rotation is:
Mahay
Moylan
Soriano
Yates (or Wickman if you have the lead)
Bobby is in a rut.
Moylan doesn’t have his best stuff out there.
And Chipper isn’t due up for another 6 betters…
He hasn’t had his best stuff for the last week. I hope his arm doesn’t fall off.
What Braves’ stage are you in?
Denial, anger, bargaining, depression or acceptance.
Moylan get Griffey here!
Acceptance, Dan.
As Clark Griswold said, “God damn it anyway!” Turning the game off to preserve my sanity. Maybe the result will surprise me but I’m not optimistic.
depression and denial
walking Griffey could hurt here
Anger
I think I’m almost to acceptance.
I dont put too much into this series at Cincinnati because the park is a joke, but they made us look horrible at home
Out of the inning…
wow, the leadoff walk didnt score
That’s because it was a leadoff homer…though the next batter walked with 0 out
Uh, the leadoff hitter hit a homerun. he scored.
Mets scored 6 in the 6th, now leading 7-6. We can get within one of the WC, lets score 6 here
Three hits for Andruw Jones.
He has a big September, some team will give him an insane contract despite the rest of the season.
sorry, the first guy I saw was walking Hamilton, my bad
I love our .325 hitter bunting, when will the coaches learn that one run isnt enough in this park?
still trying to bunt 0-2 count, kill me now please
Playing for one run there is dumb. We’ll need another 4-5 to win.
figures
Rare hit by Andruw Jones wasted.
Do we lead the league in GIDP?
First pitch swinging. That’s Diaz’s game.
I bet Soriano gives up a homer.
Glad I was wrong.
Good job Soriano, lets score, please!!
Come on Braves, just ONE run and you can hand a lead off to Wickman.
we’ll need more than one run. but one run, I’ll take at this point
Bargaining. If we can just win this game and the Mets hold on, we can get back to within one of the wild card, and then we have Smoltz and Hudson back up…
The problem, of course, is that every time we get a lead at this park we immediately fart it away.
According to this thing:
http://www.sportsbook.com/statfeed/statfeed.php?page=mlb/offstats&sortby=gidp&div=&season=2007&teamid=
The Braves are around midpack in GIDP. I’d still like to see non averaged totals.
how many runs is enough for Wickman?
Smoltz and Hudson against the Cardinals. Good. I hope the Braves end the hopes of a Tony LaRussa led comeback.
The Cardinals are under .500, they don’t deserve to be only 2.5 games out of first place in their division.
4 runs is enough for Wickman because he can only pitch in save situations.
The save has got to be the worst statistic in baseball. You’ve got silly but harmless stats like RBI & avg w/ two outs and RISP, etc. Then you’ve got saves which actually cause managers to employ less than optimal reliever usage patterns. I wish it would go away.
cmon Chippa
ball game, we’ll lose in the 9th

Should have tried to get second on that single off the wall.
We are trying to lead the league in GIDP.
mekkalekkahimekkahineyho
Druw’s going yard.
I still can’t believe the Braves let David Wells sign with the Dodgers. That’s a pretty clear indicator that they feel like the current pitching staff is adequate, and that’s a terrible mistake that will probably cost us not only the division, again, but the playoffs as well.
I take back all the good things I said about JS for getting Teixeira.
Come on Yunnie!!
That “Whirled Champions” sign is forever engraved in my mind.
Make Tidus proud!
Shut down by Mr. 8 ERA Kirk Saarloos.
Acosta to pitch to Griffey, Phillips and Dunn.
Okay, who’s going to hit the game-ending homer?
A AA callup against Griffey and Dunn. Even though he’s been ok, this is retarded.
Did the Braves radio network only budget for 5 bumpers? How can teh rights to 3 seconds of a song cost?
Corky Miller
I got Dunn walking off.
I have a bad feeling about this.
Corky Miller’s slick fielding behind the plate will win this game for us. Mark my words.
lineout
I am currently fixing a sandwich.
back him off the plate
Walk Dunn! Please!
strikeout
Adam Dunn stands in.
Wow. I don’t believe it.
Go Acosta! Right through the middle of the order.
Acosta Power!
Acosta sliced through those guys. Nice. They didn’t have anything good to hit.
I pitcher that walks many and strikes out many facing a batter who walks alot and strikes out alot.
SD/Mets tied at 8 in 10
are we out of PH’s
Saarloos sucks ass.

Depends on if (a) Prado is in the house and (b) Prado is considered a hitter.
Prado, good start…Im predicting KJ to do something big
We have Wickman and Villarreal left and are out of position players. I would guess Reyes could pinch-hit and pitch if necessary with his short outing 2 days ago.
Evidently he is.
big ups
does Willie bunt
oh christ
swing away
Probably the Vulture will pitch if we don’t score, Wickman if we do, and JoJo won’t pinch-hit unless he’s going to pitch.
Wow, I didn’t think he pulled it back.
he just about struck out trying to bunt with two strikes, just swing
Did Prado pinch hit for Corky Miller? I think the graphic said it was Miller Harris and Johnson due in this inning. Surely they were wrong and that was the pitchers spot.
great at bat.
that’s managing right there
What a piece of shit ballplayer.
go braves
Kelly Johnson
work that count son
Chipper Jones
need more pitching
The Braves are unbelievable when it comes to squandering opportunities.
we will lose this inning
that’s 3 outs folks
I feel like I’ve seen this movie.
Yates??? NO!!!
manage away you manager you
I’ve seen this movie and the other 12 sequels……
Tyler Yates!
it’s great to proceed to extra innings and find a way to get miller and prado in the lineup.
What’s the over/under on number of pitches before they score? I’m trying to be optimistic, but it is getting old.
it’s over.
back up the truck. back it up!
better get a DP here
I forgot about Yates. Selective memory I guess.
Harris’ failed bunt has sent Joe Simpson into a rage.
Not throwing strikes here is a good recipe to lose.
Yates cant throw strikes
It’s about over.
Yates hits a homer for the win.
die, kali. just die.
Damn, it’s over.
good night
This game, this series, is pathetic. I’m throughly disgusted.
Not a question of “if” but “when” now.
strike 1
Can we DFA Yates after tonight? We have plenty of better pitchers in the farm.
strike 2
Well, that’s not going to get it done.
He actually got an out!
whew. If that was a little deeper…
Yates dont get my hopes up
And a collective “acceptance” emanates from BravesJournal.
1 out
DFA Kali Yates. Hello Royce Ring.
Doesn’t Yates have options, FWIW?
nice pitch out
We have Ring, Stockman and others…lots of better options already.
ball 2
Yates is just teasing us all right now. Like a cat with a mouse before the kill.
Mets lose.
huge out
Two outs?!
.125 hitter. sure hit (or walk)
2 outs
hahahaha, watch him give up a hit now.
Yates is out of options. It’s also only about a week until roster expansion.
Hamilton is IBB
JESUS MARY AND JOSEPH, THEY’RE INTENTIONALLY LOADING THE BASES TO PITCH TO TY KEPPINGER!!!!!!
walk the bases loaded when you have a pitcher that can’t throw strikes?!
Denial (April/May — we can win the division!), Anger (June), Bargaining (Trade for Tex – Yea!), Depression (we keep losing to the Reds? the Reds?!?)….yep, I’m ready for Acceptance, but then I’ll go visit depression again.
nice move
Intentionally walking the bases loaded to face Keppinger? Um, why?
sets up the DP
Jeremy, just thought the same thing
we lose on a bases loaded walk, watch
walking hamilton to get to keppinger. Nice move. Gets another force out base, and any kind of hit wins it anyway.
Who made that call? McDowell?
Keppinger is hitting about .800 against the Braves.
I mean, he’s only hitting .374.
we’ll record 4 outs this inning and have one in the bank for later
If he walks in this run I’m going to go berserk.
mr swings we already had the dp set up
there are already 2 outs!
i still have faith in this team but not for long
that was a strike
1 ball 1 strike
2 strikes
“I don’t believe what I just saw!”
-Jack Buck
Unbelievable Houdini act.
WOW
HA!!! we get out of it, Tyler I didnt believe in you….Im sorry
Fantastic!
strike 3
WOOO!
Damn…yates was dealin’.
To his credit, he made some very good pitches to Keppinger.
All right guys, get up there and bunt…I mean score!
No more bunts, ever.
KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHN’S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its all over
we not gonna win this one
We’re experts at making the Reds bullpen resemble the 1990 edition.
You suck, Corky.
With the frequency that this team enters into extra-inning games, I’m going to suggest no more pinch-running or double switching guys in late innings. This is part of why we lose these games, b/c Prado and Miller and usually Thorman are in the game.
We can’t score against Mike F. Gosling. I’m growing increasingly angry.
Can the Braves survive the Griffey, Phillips and Dunn trio again?
Dumbass just swings at everything. Pathetic.
got to keep McCann’s legs fresh for the playoffs
Why, Mr. Swings? He can watch the Diamondbacks and Mets without fresh legs.
Wickman to lose it
Now who is going to close?
Not that the Braves will ever take the lead.
Bob in Cin against Griffey, Phillips, and Dunn…. cant watch
It was a joke I think disgruntledfan.
Oh, joy.
He dropped the ball? Geez.
Oh Wickman….
Bob seems to have trouble catching relay throws.
how do you miss the toss?
Come on Rick Camp hit a homer so we can see the fireworks. It’s all about fireworks and Gwen Stefani music at the old ball game.
This is good. At least the winning run won’t be “earned”>
What, they aren’t going to have Dunn bunt?
at least we get Smoltz tomorrow to try and end another 3 game losing streak, heard that before
gall game
Goodnight
Thar she blows.
Haha.
I hate Bob Wickman
3.0 games back in the wildcard behind the Padres.
Season fading very fast.
Well guys, it’s been real. Football will be here soon.
That fucking sucked.
I feel bad for Tex. We could be worse than the Rangers.
Why are the Braves so totally inept at scoring JUST ONE GOD-FORSAKEN RUN in extra innings?! Sheesh.
Speaking of which…won’t there be a Braves Journal Fantasy football league this year?
you can’t lose 3 of 4 from the reds and expect to go the playoffs. Best thing now is to cut to the fat and bring up the kids from the minors to see who really is a player for next year.
anyone looking even more forward to the LSU/MSU game?
disgruntledfan, I know this season is starting to really suck and the Braves lost to the f-ing Reds again, but stop with the hyperbole.
Another disgusting series.
tomorrow we should expect to see
John go 6-7 IP with 2ER, the offense wont score and the pen should lose it
win 2 lose 3, win 2 lose 3
good night
Really? In their last 21 games, the Rangers are 10-11. In their last 21 games, the Braves are now 10-11. And anyway, he’s disgruntled. That’s the whole point.
does this finally get Wickman out of the closer’s role???? it might be the best thing
he hasnt pitched since he almost blew Smoltz’s 4 run lead 5 games ago, Im expecting to hear something about a players meeting within the next day or so
Ok. A 10% better chance of making the playoffs makes us obviously better than the Rangers. You’re right. Glad Tex could join a team that’s not .500.
I’m not really that disgruntled. It’s just a name.
