Until the Braves win two (2) consecutive games, I am going to post nothing in the game threads but Hall & Oates videos.
I actually like Hall & Oates, but they were unquestionably the worst video band of all time. I don’t even think anyone was close.
Oh no, not a Hall & Oates video protest.
If it works its fine with me.
the only problem is that if we win two straight with Hall and Oates, then Mac wont be allowed to change it. If we win two in a row, we can keep them
One time my sister & I took a car trip from Georgia up to Boston & back with only 3 cassettes—a collection of Minor Threat singles & EPs, a compilation of 1960s one-hit wonders, and Hall & Oates’ “Big Bam Boom.” Guess which cassette I never need to hear again?
So, I’m not the biggest Hall & Oates fan. Don’t hate ’em or anything. They had some nice radio songs, I guess. I just generally prefer my soul music to be sung by Otis Redding, James Carr, Eddie Levert, etc.
But if the Braves win tonight, feel free to play Hall & Oates until you run out of hits. Cue up “Rich Girl”!
I never get tired of defending Matt Diaz’s right to quiet excellance. He’s much more than a glorfied singles hitter. Go to sportsline, look at his numbers from the minors. Look at what he’s done in two years of being shackled to the platoon/DH role with the Braves. If Diaz batted 3rd and played every day, I say its more likley than not his line would be .320 20HR, 15 SB, 85 RBI, 90 runs.
As for KJ, he is not performing like a leadoff hitter. He’s performing like Marcus Giles. He had 24 walks in April, 20 since. His OBP has plumetted and was less than .330 for the 2nd consecutive month. Willie will not be at .450 all year, but his speed and contact hitting could keep him in the .390 range all year. Which, with contact guys like Edgar, Diaz, Chipper behind would create lots of runs.
Otis Redding—yes, please!
“These Arms of Mine” (maybe the greatest love song of all time, IMO) was the song my wife and I first danced to at the reception after our wedding.
I wouldn’t mind trying:
Diaz (Too bad we can’t pinch run Harris every time he reached)
Renteria
Jones C
Jones A (Gotta leave him in there. He continues to slump, we suck. He starts hitting, we’ll win)
McCann
Francoeur
Saltalamacchia
Johnson (Tough moving him so low, but we gotta try something)
Diaz swings too much on first pitch for leadoff hitter.
Stats below for the 5 game slump were lifted from David Pinto’s Baseball Musings website. I don’t agree with his conclusions, which I edited out, but I thought the stats illustrate quit graphically how futile the offsense was. No way it can get any worse than this:
The Braves are 0 for 23 with one walk with runners in scoring position. The 95% confidence interval for a team with a .262 batting average is 2 to 10 hits. The probability of 0 hits is .0009.
The 95% confidence interval for 153 at bats ranges from 30 to 51 hits. The Braves collected 23.
The team is batting .195 when not striking out.
Number one hitters own a .400 OBA. No other batting lineup slot is at .300 or above.
The Braves hit lefties and righties equally poorly, with a .212 OBA against each.
Agress with the ex-Unknown (maybe you should get some kind of symbol). Diaz is too much of a free swinger to lead off but would make an excellent #2 hitter. Why bunt Kelly over when you can drive him in with a double?
So here’s my temporary lineup:
K Johnson 2b
Diaz lf
Renteria ss
Chipper 3b
McCann c
Salty 1b
Francoeur rf
Harris cf
pitcher
Andruw, go grab some bench for a few days. Frenchy, you’ll be next.
I was thinking about actually going 1-2 with KJ and Diaz, but I completely disagree with demoting Andruw to the bench.
We aren’t good enough without him. He needs to be in there to rebound.
I think Andruw might be ready to break out–he had a hit and was robbed of another. He isn’t going to hit .200 all season–the question is will he go through one of those streaks where he is hitting bombs. This team really needs some long balls.
If they can get to the All-Star break not buried, I think the break will really help the Braves. Clearly, a lot of their problem is mental and a few days off could clear their heads. The problem is, that’s still three weeks away.
@ #10
how do you slot kelly at leadoff and harris at 8th. KJ is being outplayed by ’06 and ’07 marcus giles. Harris has shown a suprising ability to hit and could provide the speed at the top we’ve lacked and so desperately need now that we cant hit.
Keep Kelly Johnson leading off. He’ll be here long after Willie Harris flames out.
Mike Clay,
From what the numbers say, we arent good enough to win WITH him.
I love how they tried to spend money on the “Out of Touch” video, & it still looked pretty bad. I still like them though; I always thought that Daryl Hall’s voice was the closest thing to “sassy” a guy’s could get. Ummm….does that last statement make me gay?
“Adult Education” is good too.
And when they come back from their break, is Chris Woodward still at first? Or .230 Thorman? Is Buddy Carlyle still pitching every week? Davies? Cormier? Is Pete Orr still pinch hitting?
A break can’t hurt, but this isn’t a championship team.
I’m not here to defend any of our players right now. They have all sucked, but KJ is a streaky player anyways. His numbers will go up and down throughout the year, but he has been good in the leadoff role and should stay there. Here is what he’s done in our past slump.
Silva 2-4
Santana 0-5
Sabathia 0-0
Byrd 2-5
Carmona 1-4
Schilling 0-4
Beckett 2-3
Tavarez 0-3
Rogers 0-3
Verlander 0-4
Miller 0-0
Only disappointing nights were against Schilling, who everyone hit, Tavarez, and maybe Rogers. Santana and Verlander are just tough no matter who you are
Doubledawg, I put Harris 8th because he’s hitting way over his head, as defined by his previous major league performance. Also, batting him at the top of the lineup (which his performance so far would merit) would drop Renteria to cleanup and Chipper to fifth.
As for KJ vs. Giles:
06 Giles 262/ 341/ 387, +6 defensive RAA
07 Giles 262/ 337/ 364, +6 defensive RAA
07 KJ 274/ 377/ 456, +9 defensive RAA
I know which one I’d rather have.
My lineup would be
Johnson
Renteria
Andruw (needs protection to get good pitches, this is the only place in our lineup right now where he’ll get it)
Chipper
McCann
Salty
Diaz/Harris
Frenchy
P
Disgruntled,
I agree with you that this isn’t a championship team. It is clearly a team in transition. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see some improvement. I still think Thurman can play and rookies often improve after the All-Star break. Andruw is almost certain to improve and, hopefully, Chipper will be healthier.
http://www.theauburner.com/images/nostab.jpg
Andruw needs to be in the lineup. It’s that simple.
I don’t buy it that Willie and Diaz are going to be more productive.
I love their production. Don’t get me wrong.
But, Andruw is going to rebound and he needs to play to be able to manage that.
And don’t forget about his defense. When your team isn’t scoring, you need to stop the opponent’s from scoring in the field.
Marc,
I basically agree with what you said. However, if we plan on keeping Saltalamacchia, I think Thorman should be the odd man out and Jarrod should be at first every day.
My lineup:
Send everyone but the bullpen to Richmond. I live in Richmond and wouldn’t mind seeing the “big” boys.
Notwithstanding that, I’m pretty sure the RBraves could score more runs and if not at least they would look like they were trying to score some.
It nauseates me to see all of the Braves smiling in the dugout, they need to get serious. Andr[e]w and Frenchy look like they are on a different planet/high on mescalin. If not I’m going to vote for televising Rbraves games.
#22…”At Alabama our players don’t win heisman trophies, our TEAMS win national championships.” ~ Coach Bryant…
Congrats on the 50 year anniversary of your ONLY national championship!
Phillip,
No doubt, Darryl Hall could sing his ass off. I became convinced hearing him belt out a version of The Chi-Lites’ “Oh, Girl” at the Live Aid Show. Stopped me in my tracks.
Wryn,
Alabama had a lotta QBs better than Pat Sullivan.
I’d buy Shurholtz lunch if he can get us a starting pitcher (Mark Burhle). We need gamers who can shut down teams. Buddy Carlyle and Cormier aren’t great yet and I think we can catch the Mets and compete in the playoffs.
Yes, I know we need offense, too. We can’t wait forever on AJ but we can’t make a trade b/c we have potential at all positions.
I just realized I misspelled John Schuerholz’s name. Sorry.
Thanks for the Hall & Oates posts – now I have f#$%ing ‘Maneater’ in my head, and probably will for the rest of the evening. I for one cannot stand their music and think their unique brand of “Rock & Soul” is nearly as bad as this current scoring drought.
Sho:
Who cares? He’s bound to call up John Jr. soon. At least he’ll have an excuse now that John Jr. has the same batting average as Andr[e]w.
csg, hitting francoeur 8th is the worst idea ever. Pitchers will try to intentionally walk him to get to the pitcher but he will swing anyway and he’ll be out every time.
Brian J,
I’m speaking about the post April 30th kelley johnson, the one who’s played 2/3 of the season. He’s hit about .250/.328/.390. Which, and this scares me to death, is right about his major league numbers before this season (2005).
That is not exactly an offensive catalyst. If willie is riding a hot streak, why not plug him in. He’s a veteran hitter with more speed that has shown all season he knows how to get the job done. KJ’s career right now is 3 amazing weeks surrounded by extended periods of mediocre performance. You cant let a bad case of Baby Brave Fever distract you from the numbers.
I don’t think we should give up much for Buehrle. I mean, I wanna make a run this year, but we don’t need to make a typical deadline move and trade a stud prospect (Escobar) for a rent-a-player (Buerhle). There are other ways to improve the team than doing that and other pitchers who can equal what Buerhle can do.
Just look at the Phillies trade of Abreu last year. They were better once he was gone.
It’s nice to have some pieces to work with though. I’m sure JS will get the job done.
http://www.theauburner.com/images/trailorparkchart.jpg
Okay, so it’s trailer. But still, fairly accurate.
Escobar ain’t a stud prospect, and if other teams think he is, let ’em give us significant value (Buehrle) for him.
Yes, Wryn, it’s trailer.
When Schuerholtz was in the booth last night, he sure was selling Esobar’s hight points: can play all over the infield, natural shortstop, etc. He’s trying to make him sound as good as possible. Maybe somebody will buy it.
Not on topic, but an interesting article about the Royal’s abortive attempt to trade for Milton Bradley. Makes me wish we had found a way to hang on to Dayton Moore:
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/royals/v-print/story/162812.html
they already tried that this spring. You’d have though Bobby had just adopted him, yet, no takers.
destraction:
mac,
this should scare the braves into winning
Escobar a stud prospect? Come on, you can’t really be serious about that.
csg,
your lineup isn’t that much different than what Bobby puts out there now……
My lineup right now, until things improve.
1. Willie/Diaz
2. Renteria
3. Chipper
4. Salty
5. KJ
6. Bmac
7. Frenchy
8. Andruw
Let’s see how that lineup shakes things up.
Okay, why is everyone so down on Escobar now?
Man, this is really tough times, isn’t it…
I’m not saying he’s tops, but he’s good enough to be playing every day. Damn…
If we can give up a package not including Salty for Buehrle we should absolutley take it. Offer him arbitration and we’ll get two draft picks for him, which will somewhat make up for the lost prospects. There’s no way he’ll accept arbitration when its pretty much only him and Zambrano on the market this offseason. And yes, Escobar is not a stud prospect.
Our two representatives to the Futures game this year will be Lillibridge for the U.S. and Andrus for the World team. The Baseball America site has the complete rosters.
Andruw Jones has been on base 4 times the last two days. Talk of replacing him with Willie Flippin’ Harris is utter lunacy.
Pendleton should be fired for his handling of Francoeur alone. How big of a idiot do you have to be to watch Francoeur’s approach at the plate and advise him to stay aggressive?
I have a sneaking suspicion that if the Braves trade with the Sox it won’t be for Buehrle but for our old pal Javier Vazquez.
I never get tired of defending Matt Diaz’s right to quiet excellance.
Diaz’s career line against RHP: .310/.348/.422/.770
Now that’s not bad, but it’s not exactly excellence either. Low patience, low power, good contact. Serviceable basically, but not exactly screaming to get in the lineup. He’s being deployed correctly as a lefty masher.
Wow, Robert…. you have a seriously skewed view of the difference between “not bad” and “excellent”. Not even comparing those numbers, to pretty much everyone on the team right now, would still put him at the “very good” mark.
The asking price for Buehrle is going up way too much anyways, so I’m kind of with Mac here. I don’t see Buerhle coming to Atlanta, but I don’t necessarily think that means JV is on his way, either. At the same time, I’d rather see the Braves go after someone we can keep around next season.
Let me correct something I just said.
Technically, there is no asking price for Buerhle quite yet, since Williams is claiming that Chicago is still alive. However, with all the media attention and with all these contending teams interested, it is just driving up what they are going to end up asking for him.
That’s what I meant.
A 770 OPS for a corner outfielder is not very good. It’s…I don’t know…decent.
Of the 12 qualified left fielders in the NL, a 770 OPS would put you between numbers 10 and 11.
Put him in there regularly in a decent spot in the batting order (I put him in at leadoff only because he is platooning with Willie) and I am willing to bet that OPS goes up to a higher number.
But you are right his OPS is not stellar.
I say:
1. 2B Kelly Johnson, 2. SS Edgar Renteria, 3. 3B Chipper Jones, 4. 1B Jarrod Saltalamacchia, 5. C Brian McCann, 6. LF Matt Diaz/Willie Harris, 7. RF Jeff Francoeur, 8. CF Andruw Jones and 9. the pitcher
I still want Ian Snell.
Too early to trust Salty in the cleanup role. Andruw in the 8 hole is terrible. He’ll never see a strike.
Mike, not like he swings at a lot of strikes anyways.
OOOOOOOOOOOHH, oh no he didnt’
Damn, Lando beat me to it
Mike, you Andruw apologism is bordering on stalker level
Well, considering only Kelly and Chipper have better walk rates than Andruw, I’d say you two have your heads firmly up your asses.
Vazquez is signed through 2009 or 2010, I think.
As for Buehrle, apparently the ChiSox are asking for people like Mike Pelphrey from the Mets and Phillip Hughes from the Yankees. IOW, more that the Braves could offer even if they would.
No need to get personal Jeremy.
And you know what I would rather have Andruw getting hits than taking walks. He is our CLEANUP hitter. Not our leadoff man.
So I guess it’s KJ’s turn to take the blame, not that it matters since Bergmann will probably no hit us…
Harris LF
Renteria SS
Chip 3B
Andruw CF
McCann C
Francouer RF
Johnson 2B
Thorman 1B
Hudson P
Having Salty up and not playing him makes zero sense.
Wow… if Kenny Williams is asking for Phil Hughes, he’s really, really dumb. Or really, really hopeful.
I go with dumb.
Vazquez is on the hook for 3/34.5 after this season. While I like Vazquez, I don’t see the Braves taking on that contract.
I go with dumb.
Doesn’t hurt to ask, the worst they can say is no. I’m sure the guy who proposed getting Kazmir for Zambrano thought he had no shot.
Also, in the “opposite of smart” category, ESPN has a graphic at the bottom of this page that says the following: “Take a Seat: Some of the best seat’s in baseball are here.”
I’m not gonna make any jokes about what college the copy editors may have attended, but boy, that just doesn’t make you look classy.
Touche, Robert.
But then, the Wilpons are among the few people who can out-dumb the Devil Rays.
aar,
i guess i’m missing it. there is no “take a seat”
found it.
Phil Hughes is untouchable, untradeable. After the success of Chien-Ming Wang, Cashman has learned a thing or two about keeping home-grown talent.
Geez, McCann’s average is down to .250. I did not know he was slumping that badly. Guess Andruw’s struggles were taking my attention away.
well the “bobby cox show” was far from inspirational
to paraphrase bobby
um..we should’ve won more games…i guess we were out hit.
we took james out cuz we i didn’t think we could score 4 runs…i guess that didn’t work
bergman owns us…maybe we’re due
Are we ready to make Bergman look like Nolan Ryan?
Should be a fun game.
Didn’t know Frenchy had the most assists in the league. Nice.
nice start timmi
Nice start for Huddy.
Robert,
Those were Diaz’s numbers against RHP only.
So lets do apples to apples, here’s our other corner outfielder, who everyone loves to defend.
Frankournakova vs. RHP
.272 .317 .408 .725
Lastly, I said “quiet excellance”. If he was the next coming of Vlad we wouldnt be having this conversation.
I see a full time Diaz as more of an unsung hero type, in the vein of Ibanez, Dejesus, Cuddyer. A guy that gives you team a lot of wins but is still mid-round fantasy material
Willie 4 president.
great, dp and willie is hurt.
Diaz, like a gutted plucked chicken, has more value in rotisserie than in real life. But so does Francoeur, and Diaz hits for a much better average to offset slightly lesser power.
Way to waste a baserunner, guys.
Wooooo our only productive hitter possibly hurt. yay!
great job. it’s always nice when a team that is struggling to score runs runs itself out of an inning.
Those were Diaz’s numbers against RHP only.
Yeah, I know. I wrote that.
So lets do apples to apples, here’s our other corner outfielder, who everyone loves to defend.
Francoeur sucks, so a comparison to him is going to make almost anyone look good.
Diaz is a nice player, but his numbers are skewed because he is shielded from RHP. If he played full time he would probably settle into the “decent enough” range. He just doesn’t hit for enough power to be a real plus player at a corner outfield spot.
S-N-A-K-E-B-I-T.
cant blame him for trying to get in scoring position. we cant buy a break. i bet willie comes out.
I think we may need to sacrifice a chicken or something here. Some Mets fan has put a hex on us.
looks like jubu needs a serious refill
jobu…damn now we’re cursed for sure.
Hudson’s turning in a fine performance so far. How long until he spazzes out?
Probably not long. It’s pretty tough when you know you have to pitch a shutout and hit a home run to have a chance.
Lovely
Exactly. Let me tell you how this game ends: Huddy will trade zeroes with the other guy until the 6th, then he’ll fall apart and give up 5 in an inning. Braves lose 5-0. Don’t even bother watching anymore.
Well, that ball should have been caught.
I would be interested in trading Salty and KJ for Bergmann. We have all kinds of middle infield help in the orgiazation. Might as well get something for them.
can someone please explain why kj needs to be more aggressive? joe just said booby moved kj to the 7th spot so he could be more aggressive. you DON’T move your leadoff hitter to a spot where his obp will be jeopardized and basically tell him to swing for the fence. then, move him back to leadoff and ask him to do the the opposite. man, this is frustrating.
That’s 49-1/3 innings with 1 run. Amazing.
Folks, now you all know how it felt to be a Bama fan watching Mike Shula’s offense. I would wish it upon no one, but here we are.
Nine up, nine down. And so it continues…
Why would you even consider trading for pitching when your team is hitting like this? I’d rather trade Hudson and Smoltz for bats and try to bash’em to death than suffer through any more of this crap.
I wonder what the MLB record for futility is for an offense?
@ 100.. if this crap continues for much longer I would agree with you. I have to think this is a fluke. Of course, if this crap continues for much longer, it won’t matter because we will be out of it. We have to get hot NOW.
The 20th and 21st century Braves’ record for fewest runs in a six-game stretch is three, done twice- May 27 to June 2, 1909, and September 4 to 8, 1920. Each time, the Braves pulled out one 1-0 win during the streak.
Ryan, he was quoting what KJ said. Kj said that now that he isn’t batting leadoff he might be more aggressive. He couldn’t be as aggressive when he was batting leadoff.
C’mon, the dam’s gotta burst here.
When is the other shoe going to drop on Willie? We might have to start thinking he figured something out and is actually legit.
Oops- that was just the Boston Braves. Atlanta scored two runs in a six-game stretch from May 8 to 14, 1985. That also included a 1-0 win over the Mets.
6-4-3. Any takers?
Time to earn your money Andrew.
I have a quarter on strikeout.
“C’mon, the dam’s gotta burst here”
andruw must play for the beavers.
Yeah, we need the aluminum bats.
Why do we need alumninum bats? Do they make a better whooshing sound when you swing and miss?
Well dam. That’s what a run feels like. I forgot.
In Play, Run(s)! Hallelujah!
WE SCORED!!!
Yippee!
Praise the lord!
Wow, a lead.
holy geez….an f’n run!
What is that weird symbol next to “Atl” at the top of my screen?
It’s a little flag, jea.
And Frenchy reminds us that it’s an aberration.
I think Jeff has a peripheral vision problem. Otherwise, he might notice how the catchers constantly STAND UP on 0-2 and 1-2 counts to catch the pitch aimed at cap level.
aren’t we 25 & 4 when we score first?
jeff francoeur- 1 walk in his last 64 at bats, 1 hr in last 128 at bats, and 3 extra base hits total this month. boy, impressive.
Wow, quick hook on Bergmann…
I wonder if his elbow flared up.
{The Great Karnak}
Ryan Langerhans.
– turns over card
“What would be worse than playing Frenchy and Andruw in the outfield every day?”
{end Great Karnak}
Acta and St. Claire had Bergmann on a pitch count for his first start back.
nothing against ryan, but i’m glad he’s doing that on someone else’s team, we’ve got enough as it is.
More aggressive = taking a called third strike.
Stu, those outs don’t make themselves.
I’ve just been reading select posts while scrolling through the game recap and today’s game thread. You guys need to step back from the ledge and man up. You guys are so easily depressed that I wanna go read obituaries for optimism. My goodness… quit crying about every last thing that is going wrong with the Braves and get things in perspective. We’ve played great and we’ve played terrible. What are we? I think we’re good, but I don’t know and neither do y’all. So I suggest giving this team the benefit of the doubt and quit acting like we’re the 2003 Tigers. Freaking wusses…
Yeah, I said all that.
Wow! edgar you’re ageless and amazing. that was a nice pitch, tim! way to catch that ball thormy! good job team. how’s that rob?
Wow, an extra-base hit!
The phrase, “benefit of the doubt”, suggests that there’s some question as to how to interpret what’s been happening…
Here it comes… The Braves are about to bust out in a big way. End of slump (also Andruw will get hot and be the first player to ever win comeback player of the year based on the improvement of 2nd half over 1st half).
On an unrelated note, as bad as he finished his time with us, and as frustrated as I am that the Mets are getting some quality starts from him, I still really enjoy watching Jorge Sosa bat.
I’m trying wild optimism now, clearly.
if we are going to be a positive blog, i vote that all nicknames for our team ends in a y. willy, edgy, chippy, druwy, jeffy, canny, salty, thormy, huddy, smotzie, raffy, orry, matty, and the list goes on.
Wow, Andruw Jones intentionally walked.
Yes, that’s exactly my point, Stu. Just because a team has been sucking (and trust me, I know they have), doesn’t mean the team itself sucks. You see, in April we were ready to print World Series tickets, and now we’re ready to take bets on who would win in a Myrtle Beach Pelicans/Atlanta Braves match-up. It’s so ridiculously temperamental here that it’s hard to sift through the garbage to find some sensical posts.
laugh, pitch around the guy hitting below .200
Say, I know I said all that stuff about optimism and all, but how would we end names if were a negative blank?
I’ll gladly be Stuey.
Say, what might that be telling McCann when they walk the guy hitting .198 to get to you?
Huh?
rejoice!
That McCann’s a bum. This team sucks.
Briany sounds… wrong. Just wrong.
MCCANN!!!!
woohoo
Oh god I so hope Bmac is coming out of his slump.
And Ryan C., that’s already Bobby’s policy, which I oppose.
Yeah, maybe McCann doesn’t have as much potential as we thought.
Oh, wait. I’m not practicing proper Braves Journal etiquette. Something good just happened. I need to go jump off the other deep end…
I think it would by McCanny… or perhaps Mr. McCanny to you, Billy Traber
Lesson learned, Manny Acta? Unbelievable tactic there…
But Frenchy still sucks. Surely we can agree on that much, right?
Thank you Satan.
skip’s call, “it’s a 3 run shot! Braves lead 4-0! Hallelujia!”
beautiful
You know, I sort of agree with you, Rob, but still, no need to be such a pill.
No, Brian J. I’m not willing to examine someone’s season’s statistics based on their all-season low numbers. Remind me to never hire you as my stock broker…
Oh, I’m not a pill. I’m a freakin’ chlorine tablet…
great job canny!!! btw rob, it is called a game thread, and the whole point is to discuss the game. and before that, what was there to discuss? the same terrible showing we have seen in the past 4 games. and i dont remember any1 on the thread today say se suck. have we sucked in june? why dont you ask the players that question. i’m sure you’ll get a chippery “Hell yeah”.
@160 If you just sold your soul to the Devil to end the streak, thanks…I think (but really, it’s just baseball. You might have been able to cut a better deal.)
Umm, Mr. Ryan, did I not just say that we’ve sucked. I’m not saying we haven’t. And yes, there are people on here that say that we suck. Those are the people I’m pleading to take the gun out of their mouth…
So, you’re a Braves pitcher and you’ve been staked to a 4 run lead…what do you do?
Frenchy’s “season low” numbers, Rob, look like his entire career to date minus his first month. “Buying” Frenchy now would be like saying that since Enron declined from $90 a share to $60, it must be a good investment…
Ooh! Ooh! I know, Jeff!
You start grooving the ball over the plate!
Come on Hudson. No meltdowns.
(Is that good, Ryan?)
general question not aimed at rob, yet might be considereda good post by rob: are you being a positive person when you are being negative about negative remarks?
Brian, you are trying to incite me onto Rob’s gun in mouth club… But I’m wildly optimistic. here comes a twin killing.
Rob,
You seem to be the only one on here looking to start an argument. I’d say that’s the main problem with the website at the moment.
Brian,
Jeff’s OPS was a .870 on May 22. You’re taking his worst numbers of the season and saying that that’s who he is. I still think Francouer’s improving, but he’s had a bad month.
And France was a Superpower in 1808.
Stu,
I’m the only one here looking to argue for my team’s supremacy. So yeah, I guess you’re right.
Oh my goodness. You guys are depressing. I’m going to the gym.
like all great fans know, you gotta know when to jump on and off the bandwagons.
Seriously, I know what we need: Chuck Norris. If anyone can get us out of this teamwide slump, it’s Chuck. We need him here, too, to keep us from the extremes of negativity and positivy (for the y club).
Ok bobby… we have Yates, Soriano, and Wickman… let’s lot let Hudson loose this game.
More like D’Angelo Ji-WOMEN-ez!
“Oh my goodness. You guys are depressing. I’m going to the gym.”
it’s funny to me that he actually typed this instead of just leaving.
There’s more drama in announcing it. Besides, then you can get the uplift of having others beg you to stay. So, will you Rob, please, please come back and play?
I can’t watch the game on TV, but I’d be willing to bet that Joe Simpson is talking about the World Baseball Classic right now.
good call, stuey
So hard to resist saying something negative about Orr…
Jeff, the only thing to do when confronted with temptation is to yield to it.
Orr’s here so that Thorman and Woodward have someone they can look down on.
Pete Orr is a poor man’s Chris Woodward.
Orr : Woodward :: Canada : United States
Yes, I know I’ve used that before in connection with Thorman.
Simpson, paraphrased: “If you take out the runs Soriano has allowed, he hasn’t allowed any runs.”
That Simpson, he has a firm grasp on the obvious…
As far as something good, Hudson sure pitched well tonight. Good to see, even if it was against the Nationals.
Good work, Soriano (or Raffy!) if you prefer. This is a good bullpen when it doesn’t have to pitch five innings a night.
Hey, they’ve actually been a good bullpen even when they have pitched five innings a night. The bullpen is seriously a bright spot this year for the braves. Plus, if you take away all the runs they’ve allowed (not many, really), they haven’t allowed any runs.
Soriano is a beast.
Good point, Brian J. I hereby amend my above post to Huddy. (Also, this means Escobar gets to be either Scoby or Yuny).
You’ve gotta be pretty frickin poor to need Pete Orr instead of Chris Woodward.
Yikes
if this good play by willie turns out to be a fluke, then i already have a great negative nickname picked out for him. how ’bout “willi vanilli”. headlines read, “willi vanilli” busted for impersonating a baseball player.
But how poor do you need to be to have both Orr and Woodward? Is it the equivalent of owning the purple properties in Monopoly?
And Andruw continues the most expensive slump in history.
Insanity: doing the same things over and over and expecting different results.
Bobby…stop it.
Wickman looks great tonight. A good pitching night all around.
Did I say great? I mean totally hittable. BOO!!
Screw Brian Schneider.
Whew. Now let’s see if we can do that again. Then we can get rid of Hall and raxafraxin’ Oates.
Good game for once. Baby steps.
Where was Frenchy on that one?
It’s nice getting back to playing NL teams.
Will we get Good Carlyle tomorrow?
Was watching the Mets/Cards game at the gym. Maroth looked amazing.
