It’s in the NFL’s best interests not to have another scumbag hurting the league’s image. It didn’t make sense that he would suspend Pacman Jones, who was never convicted of anything (or indicted as far as I know) and let Vick play after a federal felony indictment. Plus, those PETA people are vicious.

Bonds breaking the HR record makes it imperative that Atlanta hang onto Andruw Jones. He’ll be the best shot at recovering that record for the franchise.
Ummm, I don’t think Andruw is breaking the record.
Say what you will about A-Rod being a Yankee, but I personally don’t have a problem with him and I am counting on him or someone to break Bonds’ record.
It’s just plain wrong for Bonds to have this record at all for what he’s done illegally and the way he treats people. So, I will support A-Rod to beat Bonds numbers when the time comes.
Besides, I think A-Rod will be breaking it in another uniform anyway.

Please, Goodell, kick this man out of the sport.
I am no PETA person by any means, but the despicable acts of horror that Vick is so apparently guilty of, sicken me on a deeply personal level. I love dogs and what Vick will likely be guilty of should put this man in prison.
If Vick is guilty of anything at all, it’ll be a slam dunk in court.
As for Alex Rodriguez, aren’t we touting him just a little early? Remember in 1998 everyone was touting that Ken Griffey, Jr. was going to break Hank’s record. Even Hank said so, from what I recall. Then, in Cincy, Griffey had all those injuries and the only number he’s chasing now is 600. A-Rod’s not a lock by any means.

Franco at first again with a right-handed pitcher?! You’ve got to be kidding me.
I told you people when the Mets got rid of Franco that if Schuerholz brought him here Cox would do this. You’ve tempted Cox with an old veteran he likes….wouldn’t matter if Saltalamacchia was hitting .400 from both sides of the plate, Franco would still play.
Not unless a trade is actually happening this time. Otherwise, it’s “get him some at-bats” syndrome. How do you think we stuck with Craig Wilson for so long?

The Braves are among only five teams to have no complete games in 2007. The four other other MLB teams with no nine-inning complete games this season? The Nationals, Rangers, Marlins and Royals. Three of those four other teams are last in their respective division. The other team, the Marlins, are in fourth place out of five teams.
Coincidence? I think not. The lack of complete games says something very bad about the Braves’ starting rotation.

Lockdown from the pen. I like it. Frankly, if the team can’t get inspired to take every game (at least 3 of 4) from the Giants, considering the circumstances, I have little hope for our chances in the post-season.
The fire should be burning hot right now. No way the inevitable happens on “our watch”, so to speak. Honestly, this is the most significant series the Braves have played in years.

In one version of the Braves’ second-half blueprint, right-hander Jon Garland would have been their No. 3 starter, Yunel Escobar their shortstop and Mark Teixeira their first baseman.
A proposed trade of shortstop Edgar Renteria and a pitching prospect for the White Sox’s Garland failed to materialize, but the acquisition of Teixeira remains possible, major-league sources say.
Maybe the next week won’t be so quiet after all.
The Renteria-Garland near-miss indicates that blockbusters are indeed being discussed, and the rising interest in players such as Teixeira and Reds left fielder Adam Dunn is a further sign talks are intensifying.
The Braves and Angels are believed to be the most aggressive teams on Teixeira, with the Yankees, Red Sox and Giants on the periphery. The Yankees also might be pursuing Dunn, whom they could play at first base; the Reds scouted the Yankees’ Class A Tampa affiliate Monday night.
The Rangers, according to one source, think the chances of a Teixeira deal are “50-50.” The Braves surely are intrigued by the possibility of a lineup that would include two switch-hitters with power, Teixeira and Chipper Jones, through next season.
Poll
The question is price.
The Braves won’t move Escobar; they clearly envision the rookie as their shortstop of the future if they were willing to make him the replacement for Renteria in the middle of a pennant race.
Yet, the Braves evidently believed they had enough other talent to land Garland and Teixeira in separate deals. And if they were creative enough to figure all that out, who’s to say they won’t come up with an equally intriguing Plan B?
One rival general manager says that if he were in the Braves’ position, he would do Saltalamacchia-for-Teixeira straight up; Teixeira, a prolific hitter and Gold Glove defender, could be that big of a difference-maker, the GM says.
His addition wouldn’t solve the Braves’ rotation concerns — that was the idea behind adding Garland, who would have been a strong complement to righties John Smoltz and Tim Hudson. But he would ensure that the Braves’ first-base production no longer would be the worst in the majors, transforming a good offense into an elite one.
Y’know, watching this old Van Halen video, I’m reminded that there’s not that much difference between David Lee Roth & Fred Schneider.
Neither guy can really sing, but they’re such hams it just doesn’t matter.
I hate these late games, esp on Mondays

i’d say that it’s not incredibly foolish to think that any team in the central is only a couple of years away from contending. but i think the brewers will start to distance themselves from the pack (in the next few years) if they keep their young core together.
Smoltz with the low pitch count, but I still wanna score a couple more runs before he comes out.
smoltz has been pretty efficient tonight. think bobby’ll let him go all 9?
nice thought ububba…
yea – i have no idea if he’s on the market anymore, just saying – amazing job tonite. The Cinci fans actually showed some emotion when he came back out for the 10th inning.
and i mean, what are the chances you see something worth watching at a Reds game?
Surely if Smoltz isn’t up to 90 pitches by the ninth, he’ll be in there.
Let the doom and gloom commence. 😛
Uh oh. Moylan’s up. I don’t think that’s such a good idea.
All right, double play, bases empty for a run. Not bad.
Smoltz got the DP, so Moylan didn’t have to. Nice.
Yeesh, what is it with Dave Roberts tonight?
Nice. Well, hopefully, Smoltz is okay. They said he was stretching with his back.
PH for Smoltz if his spot comes up?
Probably.
Probably.
Sorry for the double.
Keep it going, Julio. You’re at the Mendoza Line.
i hate how Boog says SUHL-talamacchia
there’s an “A” in that first syllable, jerkoff
84 for smoltz, hes probably done. gotta save that shoulder for Oct, not chase CGs.
Bonds up 2nd, Soriano the homerun giving up machine coming in…
…we better hope the lead off man doesnt get on or this is about to be last night all over again.
Soriano in. Screw you, Bobby.
Soriano vs. Bonds.
Just don’t walk the first guy, OK?
I’m now convinced that Leo Mazzone managed the bullpen when he was here.
The Giants announcers for the bay area station won’t shut up about Durham’s last at-bat.
4 game in a 6 game span, has given up runs in all 4. hopefully this 3 run lead is enough. we get too comfortable with our small leads, we never build on them
Mac has the right idea in going to bed so he doesn’t have to watch the late-night fiasco that is Rafael Soriano.
Well, who would you guys put out there? Moylan? Villarreal? I don’t think so.
Nice.
Ugh.
anyone see what I see?
Soriano trying to break his slump by shaving off that sorry excuse for a beard he used to have
Nothing wrong with superstition.
Well, at least it wasn’t a homer.
DDDDPPPPP
Sweet.
There we go.
160
What’s wrong with Moylan or Villarreal?
Can you say cushion?
Let’s get it boys!
I thought either of them would get pounded because Moylan pitched 1 2/3 innings last night and Villarreal pitched 2/3 of an inning yesterday and allowed a run.
Yeah…now we gotta worry about Wickman. He’s out of his element outside of Turner Field lately.
Yep, I’m aware of that.
@163,
I always thought it a goatee. He had trimmed it before his last, disappointing appearance. Summer is a good time to clean the ol’ face. What the heck, it worked tonight. I prefer the billy goat look, though…
Molina, the pitcher’s spot and Vizquel are up.
Wickmania.
Time to nail it down, big boy.
Valid point.
C’mon Wick! End it here.
I would really like a boring inning.
That’s one.
Fred Lewis. Never heard of him.
That’s one.
Wickman’s sure not afraid to throw strikes.
Lewis hit for the cycle earlier this year, Sam.
He’s pitching ahead in the count for a change. Come on, Wickman!
david15,
Oh yeah, I remember that now.
Two out.
And 2.
Seven pitches, six strikes.
It’s a win!
Wickman needed that.
Noice! The bullpen came with some smooth sailing tonight. A bit of a surprise given how theyve pitched the past month or so, but a welcome one.
3 games back.
That’s what I’m talking about.
Wickman, 3-up/3-down. 10 pitches, 8 strikes.
Soriano was good, too.
No complaints tonight. Way to go, boys.
very good – i can sleep easy tonite
Everything is great tonight. Sori and Wick are back to normal. Nice to see John getting his 10th win.
Honestly, this is the most significant series the Braves have played in years.
url,
I actually thought the same thing coming into this series & I fully expected a good outing from Smoltz.
With him, the bigger the game, the better he seems to pitch.
Let’s see the same from Hudson.
We’re 1 game behind SD for the wild card.
Soriano and Wickman looked good 2nite that a Plus but i hate the feeling i have when they come in i dont think i will be able to handle it if we make the playoffs.
Hunter Pence goes to the DL so i guess that mean Braun runs away with the ROY and the Giants should also think about Trading Matt Cain they guy cant win in San Fran.

Last night, Kyle Davies went 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 9.
Good, except the command is still lacking. Hopefully that will improve.
He also threw 104 pitches in just 5 innings.
Also, Pete Orr is hitting .200 with no secondary skills.
I’d trade Salty for Tex
