Sorry, I don’t have anything. Well, here’s a picture to terrify the Twins:

love the pants there Lemke
Phils are tied 3-3 in the 7th
make that Phils 8-4 in the 8th
The Phillies don’t scare me at all…their pitching is worse than the Braves, it is just the White Sox are horeshit this year…
Yeah, the Phillies had a major blow with Freddy Garcia going down. I doubt Rowand will last all year, either–he’ll either get traded or manage to run himself over again.
However, I quake in mortal fear of Chase Utley.
Rollins, Utley, Howard, and Victorino have our #. Their pitching reminds me of the Mets, over-acheiving
I don’t fear Howard.
Hudson does
The Braves, Phils and Mets are really about even all things considered. Each team has weaknesses and strengths, and no one team is that much better or worse than the other. That is why they are bunched after 1/3 of the season. The team that has teh least # of key injuries will likely prevail, as all 3 have been hurt by injuries this far. I think it will be a tight race all year for this division and the NL wildcard. If I had to predict the NL playoff teams right now i’d say
Mets
Cubs
Dodgers
Padres
Garcia’s been not great, AAR. Wasn’t much of a blow, if you ask me.
If the Buehrle-to-Philly rumors come to fruition, there will be good reason to Phear the Phils.
Stu, you’re right that he’s been bad, but they were expecting him to be a horse. Now they have to figure out how to get more pitching.
I like the Marlins. I know that they are still fighting it a bit now, but just wait. They are scoring a bunch of runs, and staying in the race with Johnson, Sanchez, and Nolasco all injured. Talk about a team that has had our number, the Fish would be it.
Some good news from AJC: http://tinyurl.com/26xwhp
Chipper activated and in the line-up. Boyer sent down.
Thanks for the link KLB…best news I heard today…
That’s too bad about Boyer. I guess I really like the guy but from what we saw in ’05, I would much rather have him out there in the 7th than Kali. In my opinion, it says alot about how good Sori and healthy Wick have been when you consider the Braves have the 3rd best bullpen ERA in the NL. Our bullpen other than those guys still scares me to death.
Oh and from KLB’s link…
“Edgar’s in one lineup, not the other. Gonna decide after he tests his hand in pregame, I guess.”
possible lineup:
2B- Johnson
SS- Renteria
3B- C.Jones
CF- A.Jones
C- McCann
RF- Francoeur
DH- Saltalamacchia
1B- Thorman
LF- Harris
Quite impressive…but I’d prefre this:
2B- Johnson
SS- Renteria
3B- C.Jones
CF- A.Jones
DH- McCann
RF- Francoeur
C- Saltalamacchia
1B- Thorman
LF- Harris
I just don’t see why we don’t give McCann the chance to rest while keeping his bat in the lineup while we got the opportunity.
Ok, why is Boyer sent down instead of Paronto? Boyer has been a lot more effective in his what, four+ appearances than Paronto has been since he got injured. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I cringe every time I see him come out of that pen for fear of losing the lead.
I still can’t believe fast Willie got thrown out at second by Cuddyer last night. I would have bet on Willie 100 out of 100 times.
Well, or falling even more into a hole we can’t dig out of, which seems to be the more correct thing to say as of late.
I, too, think Boyer has pitched better than Paronto. Is Paronto out of options?
Re the possible lineups–I bet Chipper is at DH. If so, Salty or McCann goes to the bench and we get Orr or Woodward. Around the third inning, after another hORRible plate appearance, Cox will hit himself in the forehead and say “What the [rhymes with duck] was I thinking starting Orr instead of Salty?”
Frank who cares if Paronto is out of options, surely the Braves have several other pitchers at Richmond or even Miss. that could put up an ERA of close to 8. Let Boyer pitch, he showed me more in ’05 than anybody not named Soriano or Wickman has ever shown me. Also can I get an update on Will Startup ? Surely one of you Dawg lovers should know what’s up. The Braves need another lefty out there to face the Joe Mauers of the world with runners on (like last night for example).
Leah,
Paronto would have to be DFAed while Boyer has options left. However, it is still scary that the Braves are reluctant to DFA Paronto, and keep Boyer.
Hey Kelly…try being a leadoff hitter again. Where u lead, the Braves will follow….
Well then why not play Salty at first…and Escobar at third…oh wait I just remembered…Bobby won’t do that…DAMNIT
I guess the good news is that if Renteria plays then we see Escobar not Orr at third.
Frank,
If Salty or McCann aren’t DHing McCann will catch tonight as a RHP is tonight and Salty will catch tomorrow with LHP throwing. Plus Smoltz pitches on friday. Just makes sense…
Jay10,
I could see Salty at first if LHP was throwing but b/c it’s righty cox can’t justify leaving Thorman out of the lineup…
Why not take advantage of interleague play and DH Chipper for the rest of the road trip so he doesn’t try to barehand a chopper and reinjure something?
Unknown,
Yeah that makes sense…sadly
Tonights lineup from ajc.com:
KJ
Willie
Edgar
Chipper
Andruw
McCann
Frenchy
Thorman
Escobar
Chipper’s the DH
Discuss
DOB posted the lineup for tonight with Edgar batting 3rd. I have to admit, the lineup looks pretty solid.
Personally, I prefer Chipper in the three spot and I would like to see Salty at first, but overall, it’s a strong lineup
KJ
Edgar
Chipper
Andruw
McCann
Frenchy
Thorman
Escobar
Willie
I’d prefer this. I like the fact that Willie and KJ both have speed and out be back to back. I also like Rent. setting it up for Chipper, Andruw, and Brian. Can’t complain too much, it is a much better lineup then we have been throwing out lately.
I’d put money on it that tomorrow chipper is at 3rd, Salty at C, and McCann DH with lefty throwing…
I doubt it, I think the only thing that will change tomorrow is that Salty will just replace McCann in the lineup. I also hope* that if Andruw continues to suck, that he will be moved down.
weird stat for today
KC has outscored their opp
33-14 in their last 4 games
I don’t know the legality of this and so I don’t want to ask anyone to do something they shouldn’t, but if it isn’t a violation, can someone who has ESPN insider let me know who Rumor Central is saying is interested in Adam Dunn? He’d be a GREAT fit for this Braves team. I am too lazy to look up his contract information, etc, and I don’t really know if the Braves would be willing to part with Salty, but if the Braves are truly committed to playing McCann at catcher only, then I think Salty’s value decreases a lot and swapping him for Dunn would be a good deal…
McCann needs rest and he should be the DH with Salty catching, no excuses not to rest him. If Chip isnt healthy enough to play in the field then he shouldnt be playing yet. He doesnt need to reinjure anything, his problem isnt throwing its hitting so the DH isnt helping solve anything.
I wish it was
KJ
Harris
Rent
Chip
McCann DH
Andruw
Francouer
Salty
Thorman
Ruffino as of this morning it was a ton of teams, but the Braves and Mets were not listed
we are on there now though
Dodgers
Twins
Angels
Tigers
White Sox
Braves
Dunn’s contract becomes voided after the season and he becomes a free agent if he gets traded from the Reds. After that he’s going to get $12-$15 mill a year on the open market. Whether he deserves that or not, you be the judge. There is no way in hell the Braves are going to rent him for the rest of the year and then pay him next year, and if they’re not going to pay him next year, there is no sense in giving up anything for him this year.
Thanks for the info and especially Dunn’s contract info. I agree, no need to make any sacrifices for a rental for the rest of this year. Too bad though, he would have looked good out in LF, or at 1B for that matter.
Rufino, I don’t think the Braves have much money at all to spend this year and I don’t see them spending any on a bat of any kind other than maybe a Todd Hollandsworth/Daryle Ward waivers type left handed bat to bring off the bench once the rosters expand.
Any money that the Braves have scraped together will be used for another arm(s)(hopefully).
DOB’s lineup was right on…
2B- Johnson
LF- Harris
SS- Renteria
DH- Chipper
CF- Andruw
C- McCann
RF- Francoeur
1B- Thorman
3B- Escobar
If we dont’ resign Jones then we’d have money to resign dunn if he performs good… If he doesn’t we take the money and go somewhere else with it.
we dont need Dunn’s .240-250 avg, terrible defense, and more K’s than Frenchy. If we dont keep Druw, we should get Hunter from the Twins.
Well, admittedly Dunn’s 2006 wasn’t up to par, but he’s a more valuable hitter than Hunter- although it’s probably really close if you take position into account. I guess that if the Braves committed money to signing Dunn, assuming that Andruw would have to leave to make that plausible, then the question of who would play CF would still be open, so this scenario isn’t too likely…
another weird stat
all of the Diamonbacks starters have sub 3.75 Era’s. Heres hoping Jorge Sosa comes back to earth tonight
lets go KJ
Wow, we finally have a good hitting lineup. If Salty can be in the lineup instead of Thorman, that would be better!!!
that’ll work
kc, you are correct
The Braves were mentioned as being part of the scouts in attendance for the last few Reds games, the article I read (it was this morning and dont remember where) said they were looking at Dunn and Weathers…..Escobar/Davies/some random minor league for Dunn and Weathers? I’d do it…
Maybe I’m weird, but I really don’t like not being able to see seats behind home plate.
THATS STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trying to steal third…WTF!…I blame Snitker
Whoever decided for KJ to steal third with 1 out and Edgar and Chipper up is dumb.
this isnt good either, can we just not fall behind for this one game?
Way to let him get to 2nd…
not a good start there Chuckie….
behind already
terrible
That’s unbelieveable….
WTF…this is horrible…
a squeeze with 2 outs, and it works, awesome
Gotta tip you cap to Hunter… We will get it back
ladies and gentlemen I present to you:
CHIPPER JONES
Big D, I hope that is a sarcastic awesome
To make room for Jones, the Braves optioned right-handed reliever Blaine Boyer to Triple-A Richmond. In the 5 1/3 innings he completed since being promoted to Atlanta on June 5, Boyer surrendered 10 hits and registered just three strikeouts
I didnt realize he had given up that many hits….thats quite the WHIP
Chipper on turf, should be good for his feet
Welcome back Chip!
lets see if Chipper can steal third now
Way to hustle Chipper…
note to self: Check to make sure everything is still working
It’s no longer turf at Metradome I thought?!
Andruw!!!
is it not? when did they change it to grass, how did they do that? Terrible AB from Frenchy
Two Things:
1. McCann got some bad luck, that was killed.
2. WTF was Frenchy thinking?
That’s beyond me csg…stupid Frenchy…
we should be able to get alot of hits of this guy
Bad Thorman! Bad first baseman!
two singles, then 5 more pitches and 3 outs
csg, if McCann’s ball was one foot to right it would be 2-2. I understand what you are saying but this guy is throwing meat balls and we will get our runs…
I know Thorman deserves more time to develope like Adam did…not can the Braves develop Salty at first instead? Actually, I believe McCann should be the one being moved to first base.
yikes!!!
Bleh….
…………………
kc,
McCann won’t be moved to 1st so it doesn’t matter. To be honest, it doesn’t matter who gets moved as long as both are in the lineup.
his 1st hr this season…
I know Unknown, just feel like saying it.
unknown, I wouldnt be complaining if McCanns ball had been another foot to the right. Problem is – it wasnt.
🙂 lets say this, right now we need another SP! So our argument might be worthless as the only way to get a quality SP would be Salty…
csg, makes sense, i’m just saying that when a hitter gets a high fast ball in the zone and swings at first pitch and ropes one down the line and it gets caught, it’s called bad luck. There is nothing wrong with swinging at first pitch if it’s that kind of pitch. Now low and away like Frenchy had, thats just pathetic.
yep, I agree
man we look bad!
how big of a hole is too big?
See Kelly, that’s how it’s done…I don’t like how we’ve started so far….
I am better today than yesterday, but if this gets any worse I see no reason for me to stay awake for the damned thing.
Chuckie isnt fooling anyone
CSG,
That’s what she said…sorry, couldn’t resist.
time to pull for the LA Braves again, well its always the right time for that
If you think about it James is perfect for a team like the Twins (if your a twins fan). He’s going to give lots of contact and on a fast field with a fast team that means lots of hits…
bush league on castillo, good thing it didn’t hurt us.
atta boy, lets get him here
Kelly has two weird singles tonight
does it seem like we are trying to copy their moves
Carlos Silva, by the way, is the righthanded Horacio Ramirez.
we are amazing
another terrible inning after two singles
We suck.
Lord have mercy. Bravos’ play is about as ugly as Mac’s pic on NBC the other day.
juss messin’
We will be okay!
I can’t take this anymore…this team is missing offensive chemistry. We’ve stranded too many baserunners already.
ballgame
turn the tv off boys
We really suck.
Chuck James is missing his targets soooo bad, it’s scary!
this is just embarrassing
this game’s going off
hey Roger, thanks for talking to him after he gives up 6 runs in 2IP
at least our next two are against C.C. and Johan
Mets losing 5-0 in 5th
Okay, that does it. I see no reason to stay up past nine. Morning recap again. Maybe I’ll awake to a surprise, but I don’t think so.
Thinking ahead
unknown I hope your right, the game doesnt start until 10:10 however
June swoon, take 2
might as well save the pen and make James suffer through 100-110 pitches tonight
Mac, got your recap right here.
In the 1st, KJ singles and Harris gets him to 2nd with one out. Someone calls for the steal and of course it doesnt work. Renteria then grounds out. In the 2nd and 3rd, we get two singles to start the inning and cant score.
In the meanwhile, James cant miss there bats. He gives up 6ER in 2IP and we cant ever come back. Good night, lets look forward to Johan and CC
too easy
McCann just has no batspeed right now.
thats just gross, through 4IP
Braves 6H 0R
Twins 8H 6R
I think the Twins are bored with us, at least it looks that way
“I would venture to say they’re going to be sore all year,” said Cox, who over the course of the next five games, each of which will be played in American League ballparks, will use Jones as the designated hitter.
same article on the Braves website says Smoltz will wait until Saturday to start
Davies 4IP
Chuck 4 1/3
better hope Huddy has a good one tomorrow
New poll. See you tomorrow.
Silva pitched only 64 through 6IP. But I never give up a hope until the end.
Just joining the game–its nice to have Chipper back in the lineup–its about time he wakes our bats up….
I didn’t have expected a windfall from Molyan before starting this season, but everything has changed…
Are the Twins that much better of a team, or do they just play better baseball?
This Braves team needs a wakeup call. Time for Cox to air it out a bit? They look lethargic and are playing lazy mentally.
1 and 5 road trip. We’ll be near 4th place by the time we get home.
What a surprise!!!!!nice inning by McBride.
Just got the game on and this sucks!
come on Braves!
So the Braves have been baffled by a guy 2nd in the American League in losses.
You have to be happy Chipper has his bat working. Bat speed was the major concern.
But seriously, Cormier and James might as well throw the Home Run Derby next month. James’ last few starts have been great, but how long can people really talk about he and Davies’ “inconsistency.”
With Huddy shaky and Smoltz hurt, this is getting unbearable.
Also, 8 hits and zero runs. Come on.
To get our minds off this game, I was going to post that Adam Wainwright had a no-hitter going against KC. However, he just lost it with 2 outs in the 6th.
If it’s against Kansas City, does it count?
Last thing I’ll say is this: I’ve never doubted McCann and have full faith in his playing ability.
It’s just that he obviously isn’t healthy. He’s a better hitter than this. His fielding has been questionable, but it’s the hitting that has me concerned. A .60 point swing is significant. The 15 DL might be an option, with getting Pena back for two weeks to let him fully recover his hand/finger/ankle. Let Salty swing it for a few weeks with Pena seeing a game here and there and get McCann, who the Braves trusted with the big contract, healthy.
I want to see him swing the bat with the confidence that he had last season. By now, I believe that it isn’t something that is going to fix itself with just an off day.
8 hits but no scores. On the other hand, how about the Twins? One word, pathetic!!!!!!!!!
that was pathetic…how can you not manufacture one run out of 8 hits?
Kyle B, he was 1-3 tonight and one of his outs could have easily been a double scoring two runs, did you watch the game???
JS…send help
beedee, what you willing to give up for help??
Oh man it is over! Everything is over. The season, the division, over – over over! How did we get so bad? I mean, wtf?! I’m a fair-weather fan here, I can’t handle these kinds of beat-downs day in and day out! This has to be some kind of joke. I mean, like, DUBYA-TEE-EFF!!!
salty, escobar, davies…whomever. we need to make a move or we’ll be out of this by the end of june.
meanwhile i look forward to miserable loss type 14b
i guess after last june i look back and see how that was the difference in our season.by the time we got wickman it was too late. we need to make a move and shake it up a little.
sorry I can’t pitch, guys.
Unknown –
I didn’t. Gameday only (out of the area). I’m simply going by the last 2-3 weeks. If you say he has it back, I believe you. He is better than a low .270 hitter. Maybe he just needs to get back to playing 5 games a week. Or Salty is messing with his chi.
THE BRAVES AND PHILLIES ARE TIED IN THE DIVISION.
In a 10 days, the Phillies will be leading the NL East. I’m either crazy or freakin’ Nostradamus.
We gotta play somebody we can beat.
When do we get to play the Mets again?
The Mets lost todays’game, it may be small comfort…
Tomorrow’s matchup is Hudson vs Santana.
My prediction is Santana strike out a lot of times on his unbelievable changeup. I hope I made a slip of the tongue. seriously!
Braves schedule says August 7th. here
