Yesterday’s results were not encouraging, but its a long season….
I think Davies will be alright today because he is pitching in Atlanta, but the Braves need at least two more starters. Basically, one of the subtexts of this season is the race between the time it takes for the Braves best pitching prospects in the upper minors (Lerew, Harrison, Smith, Reyes and possibly even Bueno) to become useful in Atlanta and the team’s ability to stay competitive with uneven starting pitching. In other words, how long can the Braves afford to rely on Redman, Davies and Kevin Barry (and worse)while keeping their prospects on most suitable track for development.
The problem is that under these circumstances it almost means that the Braves must win everytime Smoltz, Hudson or even James pitches. That is a pretty tall order for any team in a strong division….
I think davies knows that this might be it for him, so he will muscle up a quality start, maybe no lights out, but quality start, that or he will get bombarded in the first, giving the vulture his turn in the sun…..woodward at third, ugh, everytime i see that i cringe, think about it, had danny baeyzs appendix ruptured on las dime, we would have betemint today at third, and aybar would be in tijuana somewhere
So, if Andruw has a bad year (and I’m not hoping he will), what happens at the end of the year? Will somebody still pay him a huge contract, or does he sign somewhere in a one year deal and hope to make a bigger splash next offseason?

While he has been the subject to a lot deserved criticism, people should forget that he is still only 23 yrs. old, and was brought up ahead of schedule, esp. since he missed most of the one season in the minors with an injury. Malcolm Gladwell has an interesting theory on it…fits perfectly here.
woodward has a gift
if we traded Shortstops then that would have been an RBI
It’s always an adventure out their in left for Diaz, but nice grab.
I guess we know who got the pictures.
It was bad enough to waste Hudson’s good outing last night, but it isn’t often Davies’ pitches this effectively, we need some runs here.
I don’t know if anyone saw or said this already but Oscar is most likely going to pitch on Tuesday.

…………………………………..
Not again…
See Woodie? that’s what they call a pingh “hitter”.
Betemit hitting pinch-hit HRs for the wrong damn team.
Bobby is making it tougher and tougher to like him. I know I shouldn’t be saying this, and should look at the big picture, and what he’s done for this team over the years. But his poor in-game decisions over the past few years have become a disturbing trend. And with decisions like this, I can only shake my head.
Betemit…#%*&
you have got to be shittin me!
Can we get Betemit back? Aybar stinks!!!!
Speaking of trading shortstops: Damn!!–Does this mean that Langerhans will hit us as well–while being terrible against everybody else?
The only reason Aybar stinks is because he’s been hitting the bottle all day. But the way we’re playing, I’m tempted to join him.
Bobby, when you try to squeeze out one more inning from the starter, you wind up walking out there to yank him anyway after a couple of runs. Human beings are supposed to be good at recognizing patterns. Why aren’t you?!?
Wow, what an arm!
The only reason Aybar stinks is because he’s been hitting the bottle all day. But the way we’re playing, I’m tempted to join him.
Hell they way Woodwards going, I’d be tempted to start him.
I reckon the Dodgers have figured out what Betemit’s role should be.
Salty has one of those laser rocket arms I’ve heard about.
i haven’t heard about aybar since he failed to meet with someone from the players union some weeks ago. anybody has any news on him?
fckin woodward
Bases loaded, one out and Bobby Cox sits on his hands and lets Woodward bat. Then with two outs, no one on, that happens. That inning could have been really different. Now a one run deficit is three, and this game looks beyond done.
Thanks for nothing Bobby, Woodward and Davies.
langerhans just singled to lefT!!
I wouldn’t really blame Davies. Bobby should have yanked him…
Betemit’s role shouild clearly be to pretend that WE are always on the mound when he hits.
I think it’s still safe to day that trade is not one of JS’s finer moments.
Yes, why AGAIN are Chipper & McCann off in the same day? Why not just bench KJ for Pete Orr Bobby and then forfeit the game? Might as well.
“skip : has ryan langerhans been traded yet today?”
damn..my quote placement went as well as a Redman pitch.
timo #172:
All I have heard about awol-bar is that he is struggling with addiction. Makes the whole Betemit trade hurt all the more (even with his poor season so far). Not that his two run shot today doesn’t suck!
skip “he really is a good kid” carey
Good eye, Renty.
Renty? errr… Willie, I’m crazy.
It’s fun when Skip is allowed to do TV again. I miss him.
Is there any way Skip can first put tape over his obnoxious son’s mouth and then beat him with his belt? I mean, I think it’s time for Chip to be punished for being such a ra-ra guy for the opposing teams.
Alright KJ..
Rally, rally, rally! Come on, Renteria!
No that Betemit homer sucks even more.
Gotta love Wilie and KJ….RALLY RALLY RALLY!
if we leave these runners stranded in this situation i’m not going to be happy…but also i won’t be surprised either
That was the worst pun ever, Chip. Just shut yet yapper and let daddy talk. please.
RENTERIA!
SWEET!
RENTERIA!
Renty!
Renty! Maybe idiocy won’t be enough to stop us today!
alright, thanks renty for proving me wrong! i’d honestly like to see more of that
RENTY!!
Renty!!
i like this song they always play nowadays, who is this?
Francoeur is too eager. A single works here, Jeff.
No reason to throw him a strike…
A flyball to advance the runner would work here.
yeah, he is looked like the 05-06 frenchy right there
How many balls has Jeff swung at?
Just think about the dollars, Andruw.
i look back at that woodward at bat now hard
Chipper! It’s a little late Bobby, but finally.
COME ON CHIPPER!! a little late…but lets go!
that Dodger outfield could not throw out my mother…
WHAT!!! BULLSH**
And Bobby’s been ejected. About damn time.
Go Bobby GO
Pwnt!
CHIPPER DID NOT GO! BOO!
“i look back at that woodward at bat now hard”
You ain’t kidding.
And Chipper’s gone too.
Ouch! When are we going to get a call?
No way he went
Man, that’s two completely blown calls this game that are killing us.
Ump screwed us twice already.
BAD UMPIRING TODAY!!!
Another terrible call goes against the braves. The play at the plate, and now this? Absurd.
Hell yeah…horrible umping.
“And Bobby’s been ejected. About damn time.”
I know. The umpires should have thrown him out for letting Woodward bat.
THOR!
The Mighty Thor!
The All Mighty THOR!!!!!!
YESSS!
Man…talk about your groundball with eyes…
Sweet!
Yes…nice job Thor
How’d that ever get through? Took about 95 hops.
Thor!
Roger Clemens is a Yank…wow
tiny t!
Clemens to the Yanks…and I just threw up
Wow… Clemens a Yankee again. Is he still sitting out til mid-year, or coming back sooner?
This guy had given up 1 hit all season, retired his last 24 batters faced, and we touch him for 4 runs. Nice.
oh, he was due!
Dan…Your comment earlier about throwing Bobby out for letting Woodward bat today…hilarious.
That was a horrible call and once again, Chip to the rescue of sounding like a NON BRAVES ANNOUNCER.
The more I listen to Chip Caray, the more I want to hit him upside the head with a pogo stick.
SALTY!
Salty!
SALTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Salty!
too many “!” but oh well
Is it a surprise that Clemens is a Yank? He fits right in.
WHOOO!!!!
JARROD!
Salty!!
salty is campaigning to stay up with the big club….and he’s not a bad politician with his throwing arm and bat
I HATE HATE HATE Te yankees, i despise them, they just spend money 200 million no problem, it makes me sick, imagine we had 200 million, we could go out get 3 more starters and a left fielder and we would be lighting the world afire
The bad news is that my drafting for ranting about Bobby losing the game by not hitting for Woodward is useless now.
Anyway, this kid’s name really needs to be Spoonerized. “Bad Chillingsley” is much better.
Woodward??
Really??
WOODWARD!
OMG! Even Woodward brought in a run!
wow…Woodward didn’t eff us. Go figure.
Woodward atones! Getting singled to death ain’t much fun, is it, Dodgers?
Hey Woodie – little after the fact, but it’s a start.
I never thought this would happen…2 out rally, lovin’ every minute of it.
woodward?!
Whose the pitcher of record for the Braves?
paronto
Bad Chillingsly?
Woodward–Bobby is smiling about it now…
“jeff kent has the range of a rosebush out there”
he came in, threw a pitchout to gun down furcal….he might get a 1 pitch win
“wow…Woodward didn’t eff us. Go figure.”
I guess that passes for a compliment from Alex. 😀
bobby is drop kicking someone in the catacombs probably…
This is best rally of the year–against the vaunted Dodger bullpen–and despite a half-baked call on Chipper.
“Dan…Your comment earlier about throwing Bobby out for letting Woodward bat today…hilarious.”
Seriously, how funny would that be? As soon as Chris Woodward came up and hit into that double play in that big situation, one of the umpires go towards the Braves’ dugout, point at Bobby Cox and eject him.
it’s good to see us string together several hits, instead of relying on the longball.
Sori in now.
Let’s go Soriano and Gonzalez! Let’s finish this great, come-back win.
Soriano–time for be Lights Out!
Chipper getting tossed shouldn’t be a surprise. I don’t think you get to say eff-you to the umps on a strikeout and stay in the game.
If you didn’t have any friends…
If people called you names…
And if you smelled really bad…
You’d be named Tony LaRusa too.
two quick outs

“I don’t think you get to say eff-you to the umps on a strikeout and stay in the game.”
It was obvious Chipper was saying “f*** you”, wasn’t it?
Though Smoltz didn’t get ejected when he flipped off the home plate umpire last year.
It’s great having Soriano and Gonzo
Yeah, Basil…it’s the best I could do. But hey, I will quit bashing him for a day now.
My understanding is that the magic word is MF, that anything else is a judgment call.
I wish Clemens went to the Astros, just so ESPN could go on about what a mistake it was and basically how only New York and Boston matter.
hey, I’m late in today, but what’s with the black patch on the Braves left arms? Did Brian Jordan die? if so, was Mac involved?
I got thrown out of a little league game. I don’t think I’d make it through a week of MLB games.
As opposed to how it’s a great move and only Boston and New York matter? Not enough of a difference to get excited about.
I’d assume the patch is for the Cards pitcher.
Why is Francoeur swinging 3-0?
The patch is for Johnny Sain and Lew Burdette, who wore the same number as Spahn’s second bananas.
Speaking of little league, I’m pitching in with my kid’s 8-9 yr old team. half of them have never played before. Anyone know of any decent resources on how to teach the game to kids? I never fully appreciated how difficult a game it is to explain to someone with zero base knowledge. many thanks.
jesus, pete. focus!
“I’d assume the patch is for the Cards pitcher.”
I think the patch is in honor of Lou Burdette.
Come on Gonzalez.
come on gonzo…
there we go KJ
someone please show him the plate
Martin has a flare for dramatics
Wow, he puts everything in his pitches.
One more…
Game Braves win!
braves win braves win braves win.
Big win! Love it.
Well done, despite Bobby’s brain farts.
29th straight save for Gonzo!
Great win…
Thank you so much Schuerholz for Soriano, Gonzalez and Wickman.
great win!
Awesome comeback…gotta love winning series…now we just gotta hope the mets lose later today
Did anyone see Skip holding the dog? High comedy.
A line you don’t see everyday:

hahaha
Paronto really worked hard for that one.
