I may have some extra tickets available for tonight’s Braves/Nats game here at RFK. If anyone is interested, please post here on BravesJournal your email address and I will connect offline.
The Band and the Braves? Life doesn’t get any better. It’s pretty obvious “The Shape I’m In” doesn’t quite get the message across.
Nice pick with “The Weight.” Let’s hope he doesn’t get “Stage Fright” when takes the hill so we don’t cry “Tears of Rage.”
Well, I can’t think how to integrate “Ophelia” and “Cripple Creek” into here, so since I’m all punned out, I’ll say go Braves tonight and hope that The Langerhans does not Strike Back.
And if you haven’t seen “The Last Waltz,” you should really check it out. At least to stare at Bob Dylan’s goofy hat.
Well, hopefully “Cripple Creek” won’t be applicable to Chipper or McCann going forward.

I’m heading to Cleveland on the 16th of June for the Braves/Indians game and I’ve heard some rumors that the game is going to be switched from a 7:05 start to a 3:55 first pitch to be the Fox nationally televised Saturday game.
This is crucial information. Does anyone have a link to an official source of a start time switch?
Other than Van Morrison’s performance of “Caravan,” my favorite moment is the honking coke booger hanging out of Neil Young’s nose during “Helpless.” I hear it was digitally removed for the DVD release.
Luckily, I have the old VHS & it cracks me up every time.
Redman pitched shutout baseball in his AAA start for 5.2 innings, meaning we’ll probably be subjected to him when he comes off the DL.

I’m going there tonight, Alex. Maybe I’ll see you!

Stop Making Sense is amazing. If anyone has seen the “Once and a Lifetime” video, watch Kermit the Frog break it down here:
Yes he wears an oversized suit, and yes it is awesome.
MAC – Try “Gimmie Shelter,” where the Rolling Stones played Altamont and the Hells Angels provided security. Oh, and a guy brandishing a gun was stabbed and killed.
The only other theatrical concert film I can think of is “Heart of Gold,” by Jonanthan Demme who also directed “Stop Making Sense.” Nowadays every artist seems to have a DVD, so I think the concert film is becomign extinct. I didn hear Scorsese is putting out a concert film on the Stones soon though.
“Don’t Look Back” is more of a documentary, and “A Hard Days Night” and “Help” don’t count.

I enjoy Festival Express in addition to The Last Waltz and Stop Making Sense, though I enjoy the latter two the most.
I think there’s “The Last Waltz” and “Stop Making Sense,” which are both pretty perfect, then there’s everything else.
And it’s kind of hard to define a concert film because they usually have interviews or other stuff in them—even “The Last Waltz” includes interviews with Band members.
I like “Gimme Shelter,” but mostly for the historical stuff. (There’s even a bit in there when the Stones are recording at Muscle Shoals Sounds.) Tina Turner gets all nasty on a microphone and, of course, you get see a guy get stabbed to death in slow motion by the Hell’s Angels.
I like “Don’t Look Back” a lot, too, the performances are great (sorry, I’m a Dylan freak), but I like it mostly because of the tensions between Dylan & the fans, press, etc.
Overrated (But Not entirely Useless) Concert Films: “The Song Remains the Same” & “Woodstock.” Midnight movies you can sleep to.
But if we’re talking about great rock-n-roll movies, I’d include “Rock-n-Roll High School.” It’s a goof, but the Ramones stuff is awesome, especially PJ Soles’ dream sequence with Joey singing “I Want You Around.”

no chipper again tonight. mccann is back in the 5th spot and bobby obviously got the message and lets woodward play 3rd tonight. let’s hope smoltz has his a-game, hitting as well. we only need 1 #9 hitter and woodward is an incognito 9 hitter.
Another day without Chipper…at least it’s against the Nats.
Clint Howard as Eaglebauer, yes.
I saw “Let It Be” years ago & it is worth seeing for Beatles fans. (I’m not usually a judgmental guy, but I firmly believe that if you don’t like The Beatles you have a character flaw.) The rooftop concert is cool & the Yoko Factor is heavy.
Forgot to mention: The Chuck Berry doc “Hail Hail Rock-n-Roll” is very good, too, but the extra DVD stuff is simply outrageous.
Other great music docs: “The Decline of Western Civilization” (about the LA punk scene, so much the one about the LA metal scene, but good luck finding it), Shane MacGowan’s “If I Should Fall From Grace,” The Who’s “The Kids Are Alright,” X’s “The Unheard Music” and the new Ramones’ doc “End of the Century.”
I’m glad to know that there are other Ramones fans here.
I recently saw a video of the band FEAR playing during thier part of “Decline”. Lee Ving got in a fight with someone in the crowd after the bass player spit on them. The kids started spitting on Lee Ving and a fight ensued. The L.A. punk scene was dangerous back in the day. Also found a video of a Black Flag show getting broken up by the cops, and you get to see some cops beating the punks with batons.
There’s not much video of fights at Ramones shows, the kids really didn’t get rowdy at thier shows. But I’ve heard a story that at one of thier shows, someonein the crowd vomited, and soem kids in the crowd proceeded to play a game of slip and slide.
Gross.
Anyway, GO BRAVES!

Quickly before the first pitch:
I forgot about “Hail Hail Rock and Roll” which is absolutely amazing. The new Joe Strummer doc “The future is unwritten” is supposed to be amazing, as is the current Clash doc “Westway to the World.”
There are a few wild Sex Pistols docs out there for punk fans, including “The Filth and the Fury.” As for the Ramones, I thought “End of the Century” is amazing.
I also wanted to add that for some reason, “Yellow Submarine” gave me a killer headache when I watched it. I think it was all the colors.
Lastly, the Scorsese documentary on Dylan that came out in 2005, the four hour PBS one is gold, if only for the super crazy grandpa-ness of Pete Seeger.
The bottom line is that “The Last Waltz” set the standard, and “Stop Making Sense” is the only concert film to ever come close.

Ramones shows weren’t usually like those violent LA gigs, but I still managed to get my face gashed open at a Ramones gig at the Agora Ballroom in Atlanta, back in the early ’80s. I had a nice, jagged scar for awhile—not to mention a story to tell.
This reminds me of the game Sheets pitched against us a couple years ago. 10 k’s and 80 pitches for Bergmann after 6. Smoltzie should sue for non-support.

I would assume, actually, that someone (me too) declared disaster against Zach Duke for the same reason: pitching dynamite in the last start.
the apocalypse is upon us!
A triple for Guzman. That just should not happen…
Now I’m thinking of declaring disaster.
Since Pat Corrales left, the Braves are never standing in the right spot. Where in the world was Francoeur playing with a left hander batting?
man, hans is on fire. his BA is up to .113
Uh-oh. How can Langerhans hurt us tonight?
Kyle B,

this is weak…
4 K’s in a row…
Winless Bergmann is a strikeout machine apparently.
Contact!
Dude. 5 k’s, all swinging.
W
hat is this guy throwing for people who can’t watch?
Bergmann’s on pace for a record it looks like…
Guzman and Bergmann? I guess someone has to step up from time to time.
Bergmann’s strikeout rate wasn’t anything special coming into today. But the Braves don’t look like they’re trying.
Go Cubs!
It’s early, but the Cubs are slapping the Mets 4-0.
This game is on pace to be over in twenty minutes.
Langerhans is up….
The Langerhans I remember…
Where is that curveball Smoltz was throwing late in 2006? He was successful with it. I don’t think he’s thrown it once in 2007. I can’t imagine why.
Curveballs can take a lot out your arm, and he’s already having stamina issues.
cumon willie-y
C’mon Edgar.
the power outage continues
Is it possible to lose to a line-up that includes Guzman, Fick and Langerhans??…
When Smoltz is pitching?
Hard to win if you don’t score. Hard to score if you don’t hit.
someone please make a sacrifice to Jobu, our bats have flown south.
How is Joe treating Andruw tonight?
Someone stole Jobu’s rum.
Is very bad.
ok pete, we get the point… a lot of ryans
looks like Jobu needs a refill
i now remember why i never follow the games when the braves play basement teams.
Will someone please get a hit?
bmac, show us the way
what is this kid tossing?
Smoltz appears to be the only one trying.
Wow…….
This is getting officially ridiculous.
This is putrid…..
is this the curse of hans?
what a scum bag
what did diaz do to get so few starts?
Lost in our dying offense…is the fact that Smoltz is pitching a mighty nice game himself
This is just gross.
WTF?
You’ve got to be kidding….
This reminds me of the game Sheets pitched against us a couple years ago. 10 k’s and 80 pitches for Bergmann after 6. Smoltzie should sue for non-support.
Guzman has the only 2 hits of the game. I mean…stuff like this doesn’t even happen in movies.
Bergmann must be destroyed.
Cubs 4, Mutts 2, top of the fifth.
this is an after school special
I give up. The Braves are going to lose, probably be no-hit. This is just sad.
Please win, Cubs.
God, the Braves get no-hit and people hope the world is going to end.
Grow up, you complainers.
Unbelievable
pathetic…boras, please get your boy on track.
I don’t ever remember another team with hitters as good as the Braves’ that can look so absolutely pathetic on any given night.
Way too much impatience at the plate. A six-pitch inning is inexcusable.
Randy Johnson and now this. Who else is picking up Bergmann in their fantasy leagues?
sam, please let us suffer. we’re getting no hit by a pitcher who has yet to win a game for a last place team.
Did Francoeur fall on a catchable ball?
And who has pitched well against us before. Some people have others’ number. Didn’t the Braves beat up on the Reds a lot in the 70s?
Francoeur slipped it look like…but I didn’t think he had a chance to catch that ball.
Oh God no.
what just happened to smoltz? it looks like a fingernail or something. this is outrageous.
Smoltz is hurt….
Great, there goes our #1 starter.
gr8! now smoltz is hurt
Bad angle on that finger….
Smoltz is furious…
time to throw in “the towel”

I have to imagine this is a better injury than most for pitchers. I might be wrong, but its no muscle strain or broken arm or anything.
broken bones on your throwing hand cant be good

good Smoltz didnt deserve to lose, time for 1 more

Hot damn
what a terrible game
Davey and everyone else, remember: Save the bad hitters, doom the world.
did chipper take BP today?
Bergmann going to stay in to finish it off…
i smell blood
Yes, but he didn’t take any full swings. Do we have an injury report on Smoltz yet?
If Langerhans gets that bunt down, Smoltz is healthy. His incompetence at the plate continues to kill the Braves.
maliki liki laka
Rocky Cherry is the Cubs pitcher against the Mets right now. And he sucks, having just given up a double to cut the Cubs’ lead to 4-3.
Guys called Rocky Cherry usually don’t succeed at many things… (much like myself)
he should try porn
we swing at terrible pitches
Diaz!!
There are a couple of regulars who have pitched high school or semipro ball. Can anyone tell me what role the pinky finger plays in pitching? I know that with few exceptions it’s not used in the grip, but is it part of the release?
time for Pete to come and steal 2nd
Diaz swings at terrible pitches but sometimes hits them.
maybe these are the Bizzaro Braves?
Mets came back to tie their game at 4-4. Thanks a heap, Rocky.
I would think that it would affect the release, might be a comfort thing..
Salty to the Nats for Bergmann!
hopefully its just dislocated or something
watch out for the bunt
Even if it’s dislocated it would be in pain. Also there’s significant continuity between the pinky and the radius, which could cause a problem.
I figure he could throw his forkball and possibly the straight fastball, but the slider would be problematical. The one pitch he’d definitely be able to throw would be the knuckler, if he uses the normal three-finger grip, but that’s not something you start doing overnight.
This is all Langerhans’ fault.
COME ON BIG WILLIE
willie it’s time for some clutch
Thanks for nothing Kelly and Willie.
why are they swinging for the fences?
time for Orr to try and swipe one
COME ON ANDRUW JONES!
Fine time for Willie to fall predictably down to earth, eh? 😛
renty gives us some hope
How does Orr not get to third? Someone explain.
I’ll be honest: I have very little faith in Andruw’s ability to come through here. I hope I’m wrong.
Smoltz has a dislocated finger, its not broken!!!!
You don’t want to lose on a tag out a third…he should have enough speed to get home anyway.
dislocated they say
Word is Smoltz’s pinky is dislocated. Better than being broken.
take one
give him the tater!
I seriously need to raise funds to do a study of umpires calling borderline balls strikes 3-0, and borderline strikes balls 0-2.
I would accept a walk here.
Can’t believe he didn’t swing at either of those.
wont get that pitch again
absolute garbage
Andruw Jones is so unclutch.
Awful.
ish.
He had three fastballs down the middle. Where is Andruw Jones.
sad
Great. The big freaking hero STRIKES again. I am sure the big hero is looking forward to his big payday.
McCann should have been batting cleanup.
Did Andruw fall down while swinging on the strikeout pitch?
Dear God, that was painful.
that’s his new swing
Why was he taking on 3-1? He’s so frustrating sometimes. (Although, based on that terrible swing he put on the 3-2 pitch, it wouldn’t have mattered.)
nogbogfrog: But of course.
Seriously, how many times a game does he fall down on swings? 3? 5? 10? Terry Pendleton should explain to Andruw that he’s costing himself some money.
To whoever gives Andruw Jones $100+ million: SUCKERS
Maybe Andruw is puposely underachieving so he can come back next year.
move him to the 8 hole
Move him out of the cleanup spot, that’s for sure.
Andruw to the Nats for Bergmann!
