ESPN.com – MLB – Box Score – Marlins at Braves
Lance Cormier is very bad.
Cormier allowed six runs in two innings. It wasn’t entirely his fault — Francoeur managed to turn a single into three runs by overrunning it, letting the ball go to the wall — but frankly Cormier sucks and if he had been allowed to continue would have allowed many more runs. The bullpen did pretty well, allowing four hits over the remaining seven innings.
Marcus hit a homer leading off the game, then singled in Prado and L’il Tony (who doubled!) in the second. But the Braves got shut down from there until the eighth, when Andruw doubled in Renteria. But after an infield single by Francoeur, the LOOGY got McCann and Prado, and that was that. The Braves actually outhit the Marlins, 11-10.
I really can’t think of anything interesting to say here. There probably isn’t anything.
Baseball Tonight on ESPN is going to talk about “pitchers who have not lived up to their dollars.” I wonder if Tim Hudson will be on the list.
Probably. Pedro Martinez should be on the list too, what with all the injuries and poundings he has had this season, but I doubt it.
No we hate Lance Cormier. He was all right when he pitched good his last two starts. Now he sucks. Mac are you related to Alex???
Justin, which of those instances- those two good starts or the rest of his season- is more typical of Cormier? He doesn’t belong in the rotation, and I’m not completely sure he belongs here at all.
Counting tonight, Cormier’s line as a starter:
7 GS, 36.1 IP, 50 H (4 HR), 23 R, 19 ER, 14 BB, 27 K, 4.71 ERA, Braves 2-5.
Cormier’s line as a reliever:
20 G, 25.2 IP, 26 H (1 HR), 17 R, 17 ER, 19 BB, 10 K (!!!), 5.96 ERA, Braves 8-12.
(Mind you, much of that reliever line comes from one nightmarish game in Arizona on May 20 when he hadn’t pitched in 18 days- 1.2 IP, 3 H, 6 R/ ER, 5 BB, 1 K. Without that game, his relief ERA would be 4.13. And yes, that’s the same game where McCann hurt his ankle.)
This is a guy whose presence in a major league uniform is hanging by a thread.
If someone gets time later maybe they can explain to me why the Vulture isn’t in the rotation. He’s lights out right now.
Because he’s our long reliever, you ninny. And Bobby doesn’t make any change until he’s had 30 days to think about it, doncha know? Jeez….
That was sarcasm, btw. Just in case anyone’s detector is broken.
Cormier pitches just like you’d expect from a spot starter… which he is. Good one start, bad the next 3. I can’t get too upset about him. What bugs me is Tim Hudson pitches like a spot starter too.
Aside from James and Smoltz, do we have any non-spot starter pitchers?
