12,000 fans came out to Fenway today for “Johnny Evers Day,” and were rewarded by seeing the man himself score the winning run in the eighth inning.
Also in the news today, Federal League President James Gilmore appealed to the National Baseball Commission (including the AL and NL presidents) to allow the FL champion to play in a three-cornered World Series. Sadly, the request was denied, a heavy blow to the FL’s legitimacy.
Mac, I have a blog–it’s not really related to much of anything, just features stuff I write about music, movies, etc. The URL is http://tighttoynight.blogspot.com/. Can you add it to the blogroll?

Over/under on Smoltz pitching 5 innings tonight… I pick under and it’ll be his last game of the year.
I’m with Ron. Smoltz really should be shut down for the year. We have less than one chance in 1000 of winning the wild card. There’s nothing left to prove here.

Smitty, what if one, like me, doesn’t give a damn about college football?
As for Smoltz, he should be shut down. But maybe he personally doesn’t want too. I don’t know what is going on in his and Bobby Cox’s mind.

Maybe it’s pride. We say he has nothing to prove, but we don’t know what Smoltz is thinking. He might want to do this for himself and not for others.

He might be thinking about 200 wins (which with his 100+ saves should get him in to the Hall automatically). If so, he knows that he’s got a tough road to get there (and the bullpen this year didn’t help him at all) and he’ll need every opportunity possible between now and when he retires.
Now, note, I’m not arguing that he’s not already a hall of famer ( I think he is although I’m sure some would disagree). But sometimes people like to be extra-sure.

Ron Gant over Jeff Torborg again. Maybe that letter really did work.

hahahaha, I think the letter worked.
p.s, if we win every game the rest of the way (which is almost impossible) do we have a shot?

6.5 out with 15 or 16 left. If the Braves won every game, it’d be close.
Braves will probably go .500 the rest of the season.

Oh man, is Smoltz mad. Yelling at the umpire and giving him the finger on live television. Whew.

The regular season came down to the wire. I’ve missed a lot of games in the second half. I feel something wanting.
Lose Game? what matter?

In the best college football game I’ve ever seen, Auburn University defeated Louisiana State University by a score of 7-3.
WOW! Both are legit top-3 to top-5 teams in America.

Mr. Smoltz is a Hall of Famer. I will brook no argument. If only this team had been worthy of his performance, he’d be closing on 20 wins and the Cy Young.

Nothing, reallly. But if you can’t pitch at any other time in the game, like most of our relievers, you probably can’t pitch the 9th either.

Nothing really. It’s just Dan Kolb and Chris Reitsma made it look so hard.
