I pray we find a pinch hitter somewhere. Diaz can kill leftys but he looked foolish last night, and he got owned by Rhodes Tuesday. Pratt and Pena are worthless as hitters, Jordan is “over the hill” and Petey Orr (while he is very productive and usefull) can’t provide the three-run homer.

You all seem to support Maddux now that he is with another team. I wonder, do you still root for Glavin even though he is now with the enemy?
Let me ask you a question. What exactly about base ball would you like to talk about? I only care about our division. The marlins suck, The Nat’s suck, The Philly’s are just a hair better then those 2 teams. And then there are just two teams left worth talking about. Hence why I am only talking about the Braves and the Mets. And seeing how the braves suck ass right now I write about it. The Mets are playing great so I write about it. I only talk about what is actually happening If you want me to stop talking shit about your team, then maybe your team should win some fucking games.
NY METS, we have a no talking about Glavine rule because it always turns into an argument. So don’t talk about Glavine. Suffice it to say that there are differences in their respective situations and if anything Braves fans hate the Cubs — who have actually beaten us — more than the Mets.
Dix
on April 14, 2006 at 6:25 pm
The problem NY METS is that you are only here because your team is winning games and ours is losing. If the shoe was on the other foot, you’d get no enjoyment out of posting here, and you’d be leaving us alone. Thats the only reason it bothers people. Not that it requires much credibility to post here and be welcomed, but you seem not to meet that minimum requisite level. All you ever want to do is point out that the Mets won and the Braves didnt. That routine gets old. Especially at this early stage of the season when no one actually knows anything yet about their teams for certain, then it becomes obnoxious. You should not be talking shit about our team telling us to win games man, we won our division 14 years in a row. Perhaps we should tell you to win some divisions before you have any standing to trash talk us. A Marlins fan has more weight behind his taunts than you do.
I dont dislike you, and I think you do a decent job of trying not to simply be a childlike boaster, but at least talk about something different sometimes. This is a Braves forum, if we wanted a discussion that was pro Met, we’d find a Mets board, I think we’d all appreciate it if you would do the same.
NY METS
on April 14, 2006 at 6:42 pm
No, I can Tell you right now, I will own up to it if the mets start sucking ass. And I was here before the season even started and every damn thing I have said has been backed up. NO ONE HERE HAS DONE THAT ONCE! You all talked a bunch of shit with little to no weight behind it. And I treat each year differently so to be honest with you. the marlins have no right to say squat they are horrible, nor do the braves. I respect what your team has done for 14 years but What has your team really done? out of those 14 years how many world series wins? I always look at the now. I don’t give one shit what your team or any other team did last year or the year before. All I care about is this year. That what we our teams are playing for right? Just leave it alone. Now to use what you just said to me against you: If the shoe were on the other foot and the braves were wining and the mets losing you would have no problem with me being here. I could talk all the shit I want and no one would care. But because some cry baby braves fans are getting a little taste of losing it’s a problem
Alert: Don and Pete were talking about how Hudson isn’t throwing his split finger. Again, the split finger pitch is widely linked to elbow damage and aggravating existing damage. I am more and more suspicious that he is headed for TJ surgery, likely by the break.

Mac, speaking of the Hudson split-finger issue, didn’t Smoltz also decide to stop throwing his split-finger pitch? I remember Kyle S posting something to that effect. The idea being that by pre-emptively removing some of the strain on his elbow, he could stay healthy. But it sounds like you’re not too confident that it could be avoided in Huddie’s case.
I guess the best-case scenario then would be that Smoltz, Thomson, Davies and James would be our 1-4 starters, and Reitsma would fill the 5th starter hole.
Who would you rather see on the mound at this point, Hudson or Reitsma?

I’m not an expert on batting orders – although I’d probably question the so-called expertise of those who claim to be – but it seems Atlanta likes to bat much more patient hitters in the 7 and 8 holes than in the 5 or 6. Occasionally it pays off with a long ball, but for the most part it seems the Braves have seen too many rallies end in the middle of their order…
but to be fair, again – scoring hasn’t been the problem in the early going this year.

Cheers
Dan
Alert: Don and Pete were talking about how Hudson isn’t throwing his split finger. Again, the split finger pitch is widely linked to elbow damage and aggravating existing damage. I am more and more suspicious that he is headed for TJ surgery, likely by the break.
Not bad for a 2006 Hudson inning, I guess.
Well, only gave up one run in the first. Better than usual…
This is a game thread, right?
What a refreshing change to get our first at bat only one run down.
TJ sugery will put him out for a year, right Mac? Oh dear. I’m hoping you are wrong on this one, but I sadly wouldn’t be surprised.
I am enjoying the Renteria Era so far.
Geez, Renteria is amazing.
Me too. I’ve been very impressed with Renteria.
THe game is on Fox Sports South, right? Just want to make sure I’m not missing it on ESPN or TBS.
Yeah, Edgar’s been even better than I had hoped so far.
Renteria is at least helping us to forget that we traded Marte, which is all we could ask really.
Conducting oneself in a dignified manner goes a long way toward establishing any kind of personal credibility.
Additionally, entering unwelcome territory generally isn’t a sign of bravery–it’s proof of something worse.
So, the day I go on another team’s board and post a series of inane, pseudo-frontrunning comments is the day you can shoot me with an elephant gun. It’ll never happen.
Mac, I started hearing Hudson stop throwing the split-finger fastballs since the year BEFORE the Braves traded for Hudson. Whether it is an effort of Hudson himself to prevent an injury or because he actually has an injury, I don’t know.
I surely hope you are wrong though!
One thing I’ll say about the Mets: more than any other franchise their mascot name reeks expansion team. I can picture the meeting when they decided to go with the most generic, tourist-attracting theme possible.
Chan-Ho Park is one of the highest paid pitchers in baseball…
Raoul, don’t forget the Twin City “Twins.”
I’m not ready to right off Hudson at this point.
write-off Hudson, sorry.
Well aside from the Giles ball, Hudson seems to be pitching well.
Even with Bellhorn’s single.
Looking at San Diego’s lineup, they are such a re-tread team: Piazza, Roberts, Castilla, Bellhorn and, let’s face it, Chan Ho Park.
I like the Twins, it speaks to specific identity of the city. Mets or Metros, or whatever you want to call them, brings nothing to mind. New York isn’t the only Metropolis in the country, so it doesn’t say anything different or unique about New York.
And those ground balls are slow rollers and not the Kolb-like lasers.
This is worth mentioning: the San Diego lineup is HORRIBLE. Their best hitter is Adrian Gonzalez, a rookie.
I’m glad Hudson’s putting them away, but these guys are bad, bad, bad hitters. Adam Bernero could put them away.
I guess it’s unfair because Braves (or any native mascot) can be applied to any region practically.
Ububba, I think we’re saying the exact same thing. You know what they say about great minds…
Good ol’ Bernie. I was thinking about him when Cormier was on the mound last night. I don’t know what that says about Cormier, well, yes I do.
True, but they also have some good young talent with Gonzalez, Greene, and Barfield.
If Hudson gets TJ surgery, I’m not too sure this season will be salvageable. The Braves need some stability like that Mets dude needs a real team.
LOL.
The Padres lineup is bad, as is their rotation after Peavy.
Linebrink and Hoffman have only been getting spot duty in losing games, which is killing me in fantasy.
Jeez, Betemit is RAKING.
why does Betemit continue to hit 8th?
This guy needs to be hitting #5, RIGHT NOW.
Free Wilson Betemit!
Good call, Adam.
(Guess I’m not being too original tonight…)
I agree with you guys. Betemit needs to be batting 5th right now. He’s on fire.
LANGY!
Attaboy, Langy!
At least this guy’s batting third. I completely agree with putting him there, and I absolutely love him right now.
Hans.
Durn it.
Langy again!
Yes!
Slam that Ho!
It looked like Piazza was right though, I think that did hit Adam’s foot.
Adam is completely hopeless…
And Adam, in a development that surprises absolutely no one, strikes out.
Nice ribby Adam. They should give it to you, all you baby.
hmmmm, Piazza…. This guy?s got lead in his pants.
God, I hate Tim Hudson.
We got some starting pitching problems, people. I’m following on ESPN.com…how does Bobby’s and Roger’s relationship look on the bench?
Actually, Brian McCann is my favorite player one of the baby braves.^.^
I’m really glad Frenchy got another hit. Maybe getting away from C.B. Bucknor was such a relief that he finally broke his slump.
And I totally agree with you, Braves Rule–McCann is absolutely fantastic.
And, with the RBI: ladies and gentlemen, Wilson Betemit.
Alex, I don’t know who Braves Rule is-.*
Giles, ugh…..
Oops–sorry…
I meant you.
I love Langy….
Ryan Langerhans has kind of flown under the radar since all the kids got called up last year, but he is a really, really good player. That was a fantastic throw.
He plays great defense, great offense, and hustles every second of the day. I like him too.
Geez, Ryan is lighting up April.
Wow, I can’t remember when was the last time I saw Andruw stole a base!
It’s a great pity!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was away for awhile… Hudson’s control difficulties (for a pitcher who has usually had good control) are indicative of injury. (Most of the so-called “Steve Blass Disease” sufferers have later been revealed to be injured.) I’m guessing elbow, which is better than shoulder. The split-finger thing is just another data point.
Why is elbow better than shoulder? Tommy John takes 18 months to regain full strength.
Did anyone catch the email address for the website where you can go and purchase season ticket holders’ seats when they aren’t going to be at the games? I think it was http://www.bravesticket…..something-or-other.com
Anyone know what it is?
And Alex, that’s OK!!! I realized you’re saying…It was a joke. I’m the naughty one!!!Haha, you’re absolutely cute.
I think the control difficulty is actually a collective problem for all Braves starting pitchers. This is the problem which I don’t think McDowell is helping…
Has a starter made it through 6 innings so far this season?
Does shoulder have more to do with velocity? Maybe I am wrong…
Well at least Rochy didn’t strike out. Is he on pace for the single season K record? What if he gets 500 ABs? Gads.
oh, sorry, I misread your message AAR, forget about it…
TJ surgery is more like a year these days. But the shoulder isn’t easily repairable. Pitchers don’t recover from shoulder surgery beyond the cleanout level usually.
wow, Bobby is riding Hudson as long as he can…
LaRoche has 13 strikeouts in 35 at-bats. Over 500 at-bats, that would come to… 185.7.
So, not quite up to the all-time record, Adam Dunn’s majestic 195. Then again, he ain’t gonna post a .975 OPS with 46 homers either.
I think not many players actually recover from shoulder surgery to pitch effectively again. TJ surgery takes a while but guys tend to make it back.
Hey, Tim Hudson actually beat Mac’s expectations! That’s 4 runs over 6 innings, not 6 runs over 4 innings!
I’ll bet Alex R. is grinning from ear to ear.
Then I wish Boyer all the best with his shoulder surgery…
Was that really a true 1-2-3 inning for Hudson?
Miracles never cease…
Looks like Frenchy’s starting to catch a few breaks…
Thanks, AAR, so Rochy just need about 525 ABs to etch his name in history,
Not a quality start, but at least Hudson is being efficient…I guess that’s an improvement…
NICE LANGY!!!!!!!!!
Wait, what happened?
It was a nice catch by langy, Alex.
AAR, you want to know about Langy’s catch in the gap or Remlinger’s strikeout?
Oh crap. I must be way behind. I’m on ESPN, and the bottom of the 6th just ended.
What was Langy’s catch?
Gamecast lags about 15 min.
That really sucks.
Sledge hit a line drive to left center field warning track and Langy made a running/leaping catch.
Use MLB.com’s Gameday. It is much better than ESPN’s Gamescast.
Ohh… wow. Damn, Langerhans is all over the place today.
I’m on MLB.com now. The Worldwide Leader is just terrible.
Yahoo is saying we’re in the bottom of the 7th and Giles is up to bat. How far off am I?
The worldwide leader in sports has been terrible for quite some time!
half an inning off Katherine.
Good point, KC, but I just wish they didn’t…
Damn. Can someone post if there is a score change?
Still 4-4.
Thanks kc. 🙂
Man, Embree just ate us up.
That was a terrible call, but he should have been out for running in fair territory.
Wow, we just hosed on that call.
Adam sucks, but the umps are worse…
*got hosed…but he was running in fair territory. Good point.
Okay.
It’s Reitsma Time.
The Kid is back!
Awesome FRENCHY!!!
Ah, what’s going on?
It seems like Gameday is getting more and more delayed the longer the game goes on… I have no idea why that is.
Right now Villarreal’s pitching to Gonzalez.
Damn, the extra Reitsma room that LaRoche would have represented sure would have been nice.
Solo hr by frenchy!
WOW FRANCOEUR!
That ball was T-O-R-C-H-E-D. Looked like it was about 30 feet high the whole way.
For those on the delayed Gameday things, Francouer hit a go-ahead homerun with 2 outs in the bottom of the eighth. 5-4 Braves. Reitsma’s on the hill.
Yay! Frenchy is so back. He has to be thrilled. Lord knows I am!
The online services tend to drag on Friday and Saturday nights.
Typical Reitsma.
Thanks for the update guys.
Thanks, Max. Having Francouer hitting the ball is so good for us… it makes our lineup even more dangerous.
Oh no… what’s typical Reitsma? Has he given up a bloop and a blast yet?
One away.
Leadoff single. Josh Barfield on First. Bellhorn lined out to left. Mirabelli hit a single to right. First and second with one out.
Two bloops, two outs.
A blast would suck so much.
Grounder to first. Second and Third, two away. Termel Sledge at the plate.
I’m on the edge of my seat, you guys…
Braves win.
Got him. Grounder to second, Braves win!
Thank goodness.
Awesome. Great commentary guys, LOL. Much appreciated!
And I’m so pleased they won tonight. Much-needed win.
God bless America!
I appreciate it, Reits baby.
I’m right with you, Katherine. Thank you guys very much for the updates.
No problem. All in all, a good game. Hudson wasn’t great, but he was passable, the bullpen was pretty good, and Francouer seems to be snapping out of it. Let’s get a good one from Smoltz tomorrow.
Good game. Night all! So glad Frency is back.
That was the first semi-normal game of the year.
I’m really looking forward to seeing tomorrow game.
Nice Weekend, guys.
