I think this video is suitable for the game, I dunno.
I believe this will be a traditional double-header, beginning around 1 local time and ending whenever.

Smoltz in game 1. Davies in game 2. I’m glad to see Oscar sent back to the bullpen. He did better than most of our other fill-ins, but he’s still clearly not starting material.
1914 Update:
Boston Braves 67-52 (–)
NY Giants 67-52 (–)
Chicago Cubs 66-59 (4 GB)
St. Louis Cardinals 66-61 (5)
Pittsburgh Pirates 56-65 (12)
Cincinnati Reds 56-67 (13)
Brooklyn Robins 55-66 (13)
Philadelphia Phillies 54-65 (13)
No game today. The Braves have finished a 16-6 road trip that saw them erase the 6-game deficit they had against the Giants- who are pulling into town tomorrow.
What do you guys think of all the talk in the media about Ryan Howard becoming the new single season homerun champion if he hits 62 homeruns? It’s ludicrous to me for anybody to claim Howard is clean when baseball doesn’t even test for HGH.
It depends on assumptions we cannot prove (that Howard is clean) and on allegations that haven’t been proven in several years of trying (that Bonds, McGwire and Sosa are dirty). I pay it no mind.
Brian J,
We don’t have to prove anything if it’s already been admitted, and it basically has by both Bonds & McGwire. As for Sosa, trust your own eyes.
Mac,
One of my favorite Elvis tunes, but I gotta say it’s also one of his more snooze-inducing videos. At least it’s short.
I’m excited to see Davies back on the mound today. I hope he can just finish strong the rest of the season and be a major player for us next year.
Davies has had a very disappointing year. His place in next year’s rotation looks very shaky unless somebody else is traded.
Too much pressure, I say. I mean for crying out loud, he’s being counted on shore up a season-long problem spot when it’s painfully obvious that he’ll have to be damn lucky to win.
@6
We all wish that. I just wish I could see it with my own eyes.
Anybody know if the game will start on time?
Perfect weather here in NYC. I’m sure it’ll start on time.
Smoltz against a guy we have never seen, who has the upper hand?
Davies disappointing? He hasn’t had much of a chance to be disappointing, IMO. He’ll be a solid middle-to-end of the rotation starter next year if he’s given the chance.
How can Davies be assured anything when the Braves have Smoltz, Hudson, Hampton, Ramirez and James too? He isn’t a lock for the 2007 starting rotation at all, and he shouldn’t be. Only Smoltz, Hudson and Hampton (if healthy) are.
That’s a lot of lefties. We’re not the Royals circa 2004. I think we should perhaps deal Ramirez, even though I really like him.
Wow, what a lineup….
Aybar
Renteria
FRANCOEUR
A. Jones
Diaz
McCann
LaRoche(?!?)
Prado
Smoltz
Frenchy in the 3-hole and LaRoche at the bottom? I dunno…. Looking at the splits, LaRoche is hitting .270 against LHP while Francoeur is hitting .320 against ’em (vs. .246 against RHP. Yeesh.) but I’m still not convinced that Frenchy shouldn’t be further down.
Well, his first at-bat wasn’t exactly promising…
McCann for fifth in MVP voting!
BRIAN!
The Mets announcers on MLB.tv are terrible. They make me want to commit violence.
Is Smoltz pitching as badly as Gameday suggests he is?
That was a very uninspiring play. And we’re tied.
green and valentin (offensive powerhouses) tag smoltz for one. now, we face the immortal michael tucker.
already 2 wild pitches for smoltz. his control seems spotty even though he hasnt walked anybody.
Two wild pitches in two innings cannot be a good sign.
Could he get a record or something?
come on smoltz. keep it a tie.
atta boy, smoltz. now, frenchie can show us why hes hitting third (to strike out?).
seriously, what was bobby thinking?
There is the Braves’ free out for the day.
rob — wild pitch records:
most in a game: AL – jack morris, charlie wheatley (both detroit) – 5
NL – johnny ryan (louisville) – 10
most in an inning: AL – walter johnson (washington) – 4
NL – phil niekro (atlanta) – 4
knucksie!
The Braves need to bring in Otis Nixon to be a baserunning coach next year or else just always put the stop sign on.
while i still like to criticize him, frenchie has looked like hes made some serious improvements in the past month. i think he went from april – august singing the same old swing and miss song, but lately, hes been working some counts, battling well, and even drawing some walks.
Hey, TBS just showed John Rocker’s favorite train, the #7.
TAKE A FREAKIN’ PITCH!!
Where’s Marcus? Wasn’t he supposed to be back with the team yesterday?
Strikeout, popup, strikeout. Our #3 hitter, ladies and gentlemen.
I think he’s way better than Chipper……….
Blech.
What a terrible pitch.
Oops, that stinks.
John isn’t fooling anyone. Shawn f-ing Green?! UGH.
He’s up to 115 pitches now.
Getting 1 run, 5 hits and ZERO walks in 6 innings against someone named Dave Williams is utterly appalling. He only had to throw 72 pitches. Pathetic.
Smoltz has thrown, according to gameday, 125 ptiches. I can’t see the game – is he struggling? Its only 3-1, but the Mets haven’t been hitting lately.
10 baserunners, 5 strikeouts, and a ton of deep counts will kill your pitch count. He struggled with his command, but still kept us in the game. The offense has been putrid.
Here’s a priceless quote from Game Day
“Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Pete Orr replaces Martin Prado.”
Nice game, Willy.
How do you let Shawn Green go 3-for-4? Dear lord.
That’s that. Hopefully, the braves will do better with their weaker pitcher like in the two dh’s over the weekend. Oliver Perez was wild in his last two starts, so maybe we will see some free passes.
If he was wild in his last few starts, might I suggest giving Frenchy a rest?
