You guys brought your A games tonight! Every post is hilarious!
Great touch with the Beatles parodies!
I still don’t understand how we let Yates, Pratt, and to a lesser degree Hampton infiltrate our camp and sabotage it- especially when we gave them our only truly clutch player (Julio) in return! Yates has to be getting some major kickbacks.
Brian J.
on August 30, 2006 at 5:17 pm
That’s not completely fair to Hampton, who was a good pitcher until his arm went sproing. And we didn’t give Julio to the Mets; he left as a FA because they offered him a two-year contract. (Besides, Franco is hitting 271/ 328/ 364 this season, better than Jordan, but not really worth keeping around if you can only play 1B.)
Among players with at least 375 plate appearances, Brian McCann is 9th in the league in OPS (behind Barry Bonds) and 8th in the league in Runs Created per 27 Outs (behind Chipper Jones). Among players in the top ten for OPS, he’s fifth in BB/K, and second in AB/K behind only Albert Pujols.
Plus, he’s a 22-year old catcher. I’d say a performance like that warrants a 7th-place vote on an MVP ballot. Wouldn’t you?
I doubt that Pinkston will “catch” on with another team… (horrible pun was intended)

I had the worst time imaginable trying to put this sorry thing together. Is there a blogger sandbox/tip place I can go where I can get some real information on how do this crap?(question for MAC)

on August 30, 2006 at 9:13 pm
No, LaRoche was always “solid” (if unspectacular). The way he’s playing now, he’s an excellent ML player. I mean, he’s doing as well as Carlos Delgado this year (although Delgado has had a few more ABs.) If he can reproduce this next year (and even as someone who has always thought he was a useful guy and a good enough starter, I’m a bit skeptical). But he’s got that potential.
Okay, whoever picked the player of the game is on drugs.

on August 30, 2006 at 9:14 pm
I’ll also add that, while I certainly haven’t looked into it, this “new” LaRoche could be a product of some change in his hitting approach (a la Andruw during ST of 2005), and if so, it is likely to be permanent. But he’s always been pretty streaky, so who knows.

Tyler Yates is the Mets’ best player.
If Tyler Yates were a cornerback, he would lead the second string in preseason tackles.
do you think Yates is ADD, I think we should put all of our crappy players on ritalin and see what happens. At least they’ll be focused
If Tyler Yates were a quarterback… he’d probably also lead the second string in preseason tackles.
Seriously, most of our bullpen probably would look better on the Falcons’ defensive line.
Anyway, I have class tonight, so won’t be able to check in until 8 or so. Last night, this was good luck.
