ESPN.com – MLB – Box Score – Braves at Nationals
I keep waiting to wake up from this horrible nightmare (No… please, take it away… I can’t watch anymore!) but it never happens.
You have John Smoltz on the mound, you think you have a chance. But I think John’s just tried to do too much and is getting worn down. He did strike out six, so there’s something in the tank, but he allowed six runs in five innings, giving up nine hits and walked three. Nonetheless, he does not go into the Doghouse because he is John Smoltz.
Ken “Tampa Bay Devil” Ray is in the Doghouse. The Braves fought back from 4-0 and 6-3 down to make it 6-5. But in the seventh, after Paronto had another shutout inning that gets him no credit, Ray came out and allowed two singles and then a two-out, three-run homer to the legendary Brian Schneider to kill the team. Hence this is Miserable Braves Loss Type 4.3(f): “Good Starting Pitcher has horrible start, Gives Up Homer To Fall Way Behind, Team Rallies, But Horrible Reliever Kills Them While Good Relievers Sit On Their Asses In The Bullpen Because It’s Not A Save Situation.â€
LaRoche had a good game, and hit a homer that would have tied it in the eighth if Ray hadn’t completely imploded. Francoeur had a couple of hits. Andruw sat again with his “tendinitis” but had a pinch-hit single. Marcus was 0-4; I don’t care if Bobby puts Francoeur in the leadoff slot, he has to get Marcus back to second in the order. Day game tomorrow and August days in Washington are always pleasant.
Some good news… maybe…
Mississippi defeated Tennessee tonight…
Kyle Davies pitched tonight…. (2 runs were in the first inning)
7.0 -4H -2R -2ER -3BB -3SO
I was worried there for a bit in the first, but he settled down very well and did great!
Joey Devine finished the game…
2.0 -1H -0R -1BB -1SO
That’s good news…we need Davies.
Yes… I was glad to see that from him tonight… I believe he’s scheduled to start for Richmond on the 21st.
He also had 2 hits tonight… one being an RBI double!
Well, at least we’ll now have a September where we can watch the youth from the minor league squads showcase their stuff, ala the 1980’s!
Another disgusting setback tonight.
Diaz hitting leadoff?
What’s up with Andrew’s “tendinitis’? Why the quotes?
“… we’ll now have a September where we can watch the youth from the minor league squads showcase their stuff”
Isn’t that what we’ve been doing? It hasn’t been pretty.
“Tendinitis” is a fake diagnosis. It just means “It hurts and we don’t know why.” (Stolen from Bill James.)
In actual fact, it means that there’s inflammation of the tendon. But a lot of the time that’s a symptom, not a disease. Horacio had “tendinitis” in his shoulder, but it became obvious that the inflammation had some underlying cause because it wouldn’t go away.
90 percent of the time in a baseball context, “tendinitis” just means a sore knee/ankle/shoulder/elbow.
Fair enough–I wondered if you were suggesting something else such as some Boras machinations.
Kirby Puckett got the Twins #1 web gem against us in the World series.
Royals crusing the ChiSox 10-0 bottom of the 9th 0 outs.
Villerreal getting the start tomorrow. Very interesting.
*Villarreal
I don’t think the Angels and Rangers like each other.
That’s more painfull that interesting actually…
ugh..
than*
I take it you don’t think he will do a very good job.
Davey are you ready for the Draft.
I had to redo my pre-ranking.
If the “job” involves pitching….then no, I don’t think he’ll do a good job.
Oh, boy a fight.
I’m ready…
I didn’t do a pre-ranking. Like with most things in my life, I’m just going to wing it…
WTF was that Scott Feldman. A side arm haymaker….LOL
Feldman should get set back to minors just for that performance.
HAHAHAHA ..a sidearm haymaker…That was GREAT!!!
John Smoltz got #5 web gem.
Everyone should watch SC tonight, just to see the fight…I will post the link as soon as it is up.
HAHAHA….Who throws a sidearm haymaker….AHHH they just showed it again!!!
DId I miss a fight? I was at the Ryan Ventura bout.
Can’t wait to see that
If Smoltz gave up 15 runs in the first inning and we lost 15-14, he wouldn’t be in my dog house. If Smoltz hit my mom in the face, I would ask what she did to deserve it.
HA HA HA
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060816/en_nm/leisure_gentry_dc
It wasn’t a great fight.(except the sidearm and Adam Kennedy getting tackled hard)I love the Robin Ventura and Nolan Ryan fight.
Basketball fights are the worst…They wait till a 5’4ish balding ref that is around 60 gets in between them before the flailing arms and insults start.
HAHAHA he killed a bear…
Same here Smitty…
Smoltz can come in here and punch me in the face…and I’d apoligize..cuz I know I must’ve done something wrong.
Yeah, I heard about the bear thing on the radio. It sounded weird.
Isn’t ESPN’s ticker right? Did Adam Bernero pitch that game for the Royals and shut down the White Sox and their staff ace?
Oh, DeRosa was the one who laid kennedy out with the tackle.

Padilla is a douchebag…
“Joey Devine finished the game…
2.0 -1H -0R -1BB -1SO”
I look forward to seeing him back more than Kyle Davies (I hope he is called up in September.) The all-time saves leader for North Carolina State is the Braves’ future closer.
If he can stay healthy and not give up Grannys.
Dan,
At this point we need starters more than releivers.
Mr. Gentry is a douchebag as well. That is just disgusting. I’d like to put him in a pen and shoot him with a bow and arrow.
“At this point we need starters more than releivers.”
I know, but I just look more forward to seeing Devine than Davies.
oh, ok.
Mets lose again…man they suck.
Yeah uhrlix..
the more I think of what he did..the more I want to hurt him psysically.
We should go after Shawn Green.
Turn it to ESPN….the fight is on.
U like Shawn Green Jay?
Ahhh did you see….
No, I just saw him on SC hitting a homer, and I thought..eh, why not?
I wouldn’t want Shawn Green man…
No, I’ll have to wait till tomorrow morning to see it i guess…
The Mets are going to get him anyways…I just saying random people..I don’t like Shawn Green either…Overpaid and Overrated.
I’ll be back in a little bit.
Why are the Reds stockpiling nobody starting pitchers?
Dont know if this was mentioned
KC tonight –
Adam Bernero 6IP 5H 0ER 0BB 6K’s
I went to the game tonight. My dad totally embarrassed me by standing up and yelling “MORON!” at the top of his lungs when Soriano got hung up between 2B and 3B. But despite this, us losing, and wasting $21 on very little food, I had a great time. I really thought we might get back in it, although every time that thought crossed my mind, some reliever came in as buzzkill. It was a good game, though.
Two things: Francoeur’s plate appearances look even worse live than on TV, and Todd Pratt is a humongous waste of space. I was beyond disappointed when I saw McCann (AND Andruw!) wasn’t in the starting lineup. Then of course Pratt GIDP, and should have done it twice. Ugh.
Davey the fight is about to be on….Turn to it.
My dad is a champion heckler, so I feel your pain.
Re: Dan @ #33 and others about Bernero – I remember JC always liked Bernero pretty well. I wonder if he still feels the same (and not ‘I wonder’ in a snide comment way…)
This is for Davey and any other Miami Fans.

Does anyone like the show “Boondocks”?
That’s a funny ass show.
Goodnight all..
and it’s getting even better… ajc.com:
Jordan nears return
Brian Jordan’s broken clavicle has healed and the veteran is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment next week, with a likely return after Sept. 1.
The 39-year-old outfielder hasn’t played in two months.
Why bring him back, why?
Why stunt LaRoche’s growth against left-handed pitchers like Todd Pratt is doing to McCann? We’ve all seen how much better LaRoche has done against left-handed pitchers now that he has gotten more at-bats against them.
Maybe they’ll platoon Jordan in right field vs right handed pitchers? It would probably be an improvement. Yeah I know. Never going to happen.
Oh Lord, I hope we do not see Brian Jordan on the field again unless it is as a coach.
Why Pratt at all? Just because there is a 2% chance of making the playoffs. ugh.
I Hope they do not bring Devine back up, he needs to pitch out the year in the minors and have success. He does not need to come up and potentially get whacked around again, it would probably ruin him. Besides he is working on a new delivery still, the majors are not a place to perfect that.
Mac, you should join Smitty’s fantasy football league.
I was going to go to today’s game, but I’ve already seen one loss in person this series. Maybe if I stay home and watch it on MASN, they’ll actually win. Oh, who am I kidding?
Oh, and I joined the football league as CharmedOne.
Great Askia.. 😀
Hey Jay, I saw the brawl finally…funny stuff.
I love baseball brawls. 🙂
Can we please just put an exclamation point on this season being over? I’m tired of false hope. I’m guilty of it myself. I still find myself looking at the standings and somehow justifying that we are only 5.5 games back. I think I have a disease because I can’t stop checking. The frustrating part is how bad the NL is this year. I guess that should show me what kind of team we actually have on the field.
Here’s to fantasy football to get my mind off of these things.
I never thought I would say this, but its time to put all focus on college football. After every braves game it makes me even more excited about football. Looking at the pitchers that have completely shut us down this year, we are nothing more than a very average ball club. Its sad, but 1 out of every 15 years isn’t that bad. Just think if we were Royals, Pirates, or even Met fans!
I agree csg, this is pathetic. We have nothing to work with. Why even worry about the WC? Even if we squeek by with the WC spot (still very unlikely), we would just blow it in the first round because we can’t consistently pitch good passed the 5th inning. Time for some football.
Here is my heckler story:
When I was a senior in high school, our basketball team was playing in a post season tournament against our cross town rival at their gym. The officals were terrible (two of them were graduates of our rival high school).ALl of our fans were on them hard core. Durring the third quarter my freind and I were sitting on the front row. A player for our team caught a pass right in front of us and the ref said he was on the line, but he wan’t even close. I stood up and protested the call(along with about 50 other people) The ref actually came up to me and told me to sit down, being 18 and cocky I told him, “You need to mind the 10 people on the floor and not the fans.” Which is true. He tossed me from the game. Everyone on our side began to boo the ref. A friend of mine on the team told me the next day that it got the team fired up and we won by 3.
THe worst part was I road with a friend of mine and he had to come give me his keys so I could sit in the car because it was raining.
ha ha ha!
We have an odd numer of team in the league. So we need one more team
Yahoo League: 468603

Draft today at 7:30 (though you don’t have to be there)
Lol. Someone just called and offered me behind home plate tickets for today’s game. I’m tempted….
who is gone next year
1. JS
2. BC
3. Fredi G
4. TP
5. the 2nd spitter, RM
my guess is the whole crew is back
I’d have to say Fredi G. He’s been in every news article I’ve read about managers heading out…
Hey Miranda (if you’re out there), I am going to see the MS BRaves play tomorrow night (Friday). I was just wondering if you had any idea who I might see pitching. I suppose I could look it up on the internet, but I just thought I’d ask you since you are always knowledgeable about the boys in Pearl.
I don’t think anybody will be fired. Shuerholz would just chalk up the bad season to injuries. If anybody leaves, it will be because they got a better job offer from another team.
Why I love Smoltzie…
“It just was a frustrating night for me,” Smoltz said. “Because anytime we get five, I should win. We ended up with six, but I’ll start a new streak.”
Smoltz can do no wrong in my book.
I love day games when I’m bored at work
I got a weird feeling that we might see Rent leading off today. He’s in an 0-17 slump and it might do some good for him and Marcus. Time will tell!
Jenny, I was at the game too. By the way soriano didn’t get hung up between 2nd and 3rd by his fault. Billy Traber, the pitcher didn’t think he could score from second on a ball that bounced off the wall, and the batter cruised into second because it was a ball off the wall. I still hate soriano though. And the nationals fans are pretty annoying.
