The Braves will of course lose, but how? I have read the tea leaves and discovered that they will take a 5-3 lead into the ninth, but with two out and two on, David Ortiz will hit a fly ball which will bounce off the head of a Braves player and over the fence for a three-run homer. Disturbingly, the player will be Adam LaRoche, playing first base.
Mac, your wrong. We released Brain Jordan today and picked up Otis Nixon, He catches the ball in RF, after replacing Frenchy, and we win 5-3. Amazing!
Is it coincidence the John Schuerholz will be signing his book at the game on the day that Lance Cormier is called up from Richmond to start?
JS is a BRAVE man (pun intended) to be signing his book in the midst of losing 14 of 17. That takes balls the size of Idaho if you ask me.
Is Otis on work realease from the DeKalb County jail?
I’m heading to the outer banks for a week tomorrow morning, so i won’t be posting here much. if the braves go on a winning streak while i’m gone, i take all the credit – you guys are going to have to cough up enough cash for me to quit my job so i can stay there all the time… yes, i WOULD make that sacrifice ; )
Wow, McCann remembers what winning feels like. Do you, I dont!

sorry forgot the link
Oh, man, we’re really reaching now. To find a feel-good fluff piece for today, they have to go all the way back to some random story when Brian McCann was 15? We’re really fishing here, aren’t we?
As the board’s resident sap, it was cute, though.
Maybe McCann’s dad should come teach everyone how to hit.
Going back to the other thread….
I guess I missed the part where Neyer bashed the Braves. I did see, however, where he said that the pitching staff was nothing special and the playoffs look to be out of reach for this team. Which are both true statements….
Look, ESPN isn’t going to be as kind to us as we are to ourselves. They drive the largest collective bandwagon out there–they clowned on the Mets last year and Detroit before that. Now those teams are all you hear about on Baseball Tonight. Call ’em Ratings Prostitutes.
Should have known our crap line-up tonight. The Red Sox troubles should be over.
Giles (shouldn’t be here, Smitty what happened)
Renteria
Jones (2)
Frenchy (why this spot)
Jordan (Hudson should hit here or Betemit)
Diaz
Pratt (where’s Pena)
Hudson
Where are you getting that lineup? Is that official?
As a method to get my mind off how dismal things have gotten lately with the Braves, I decided to drag out my APBA for Windows (simulated computer baseball) & draw up one of my completely ridiculous tournaments that includes my favorite older & newer teams. But this time, I figured I’d include my 20 Negro Leagues teams to go with the usual great teams of yore: 27 NYY, 63 LA, 53 BKN, etc.
So 40 teams. I called it the Black & White Tournament. I included one Atlanta team (95 ATL) to keep it interesting.
So what do I get for my trouble? In its very first game, the 95 Braves get no-hit by some guy on the 1938 Birmingham Black Barons named Newberry.
So real or simulated, my team is just mouthbreathing.
Woo-hoo, Birmingham!
ububba- Try the 1914 and 1957 Braves.
— Bravesfan1
It is sometimes hard to face reality. Actually the Braves maybe will lose….but such a way of thinking which also suggests that you expect to be unsuccessful in your daily life. I really hate the Braves lose at games. It seems everything go against the Braves. You know the Mets, besides, others are not a matter to be slighted this season. I think it’s a good chance to review our successes and failures. Mac, my point is I’ll always root for the Braves without Win or Lose. Are you of my mind? RIGHT, RIGHT?
Bravesfan1,
I have those teams, too, but I’m not crazy about the 1914 squad. Kinda boring. Nobody can hit & they’re not as fast as other teams from that era, so their version of small-ball doesn’t compare.
The ’57 team is a blast, though. Bob “Hurricane” Hazle is just unfair.
Lineups per the Boston Globe:
Red Sox
1. Coco Crisp, CF
2. Mark Loretta, 2B
3. David Ortiz, 1B
4. Manny Ramirez, LF
5. Trot Nixon, RF
6. Jason Varitek, C
7. Mike Lowell, 3B
8. Alex Cora, SS
9. Jon Lester, SP
Braves
1. Marcus Giles, 2B
2. Edgar Renteria, SS
3. Chipper Jones, 3B
4. Andruw Jones, CF
5. Jeff Francoeur, RF
6. Matt Diaz, LF
7. Brian Jordan, 1B
8. Todd Pratt, C
9. Tim Hudson, SP
Where the f*** is Brian McCann? I don’t give a crap that Jon Lester is a lefty. It’s time for this retardo matchup madness to stop.
The Birmingham pitcher was probably Jimmy Newberry. Those knuckleball pitchers are tough.
http://www.blackathlete.net/artman/publish/article_01753.shtml
i guess mccann cant play back to back games. what a downer!
This is nice.
Giles still leading off…Jordan at first…McCann on the bench again, and after we get slaughtered tonight, we got Beckett and Schilling to look forward to..
Shaping up to be a great weekend..
I’m so tired of seeing T. Pratt in the lineup. This whole slide started when McCann hurt his ankle. I’m with Jenny, enough with the freaking lefty-righty matchups. In case Bobby hasn’t noticed, it’s not working. I have no problem with him giving McCann a break every now and again. Like maybe when we go on a winning streak.
coudlnt agree with you more on the lefty-righty matchup crap.
I was about to say “It’s not like McCann can’t hit lefties,” but then I looked at his splits this year, and compared with his numbers against RHP, no, he actually can’t hit lefties. But he has a .750 OPS against them, which first of all lets you know that he absolutely KILLS righties, but also is still 200 points better than Pratt’s OPS against any-handed pitcher. So either way, it makes no sense. The only way you can say he can’t hit lefties is relative to himself. But maybe Bobby’s not looking at his .370 OBP against LHP, but at the .190 BA, which IS bad, but not bad enough to make Todd Pratt start over him.
I don’t think Boby knows what obp is much less ops.
When it rains it pours. Lance Cormier gets the start tomorrow against Josh Beckett. On national TV. That should be a doozy.
Brian Jordan’s slugging percentage against LHP is .163. Yes, that’s right… a .163 slugging percentage. He has as many extra base hits v. lefties as I do.
Bobby is out of his goddamn mind.
Lance Cormier *starting*? How much does Bobby have on the Red Sox? If he’s that short of money, he could just ask for a loan or do a bad commercial or something.
What we need is a faith anthem.
“Well I guess it would be nice
If I could touch your body…”
I miss Chuck James.
I’m actually debating watching the game on my computer with “Bad Day” blasting out of iTunes on continuous loop. It seems so appropriate. So if I disappear suddenly, it means my brother murdered me and smashed my computer, because he, along with half the world, hates that song.
The mlbtv cameraman is drunk!
Crap, it’s the FSS feed. These announcers are so bad they leave me actually wanting to watch NESN. At least Orsillo and Remy are marginally competent.
Anyone else have the pkg on directv? They have Turner South as the channel the game’s on but it’s showing a goddamn football game. NESN and FSN blacked out.
UGH
Huddy look solid! If we’re going to take 2 of 3, we gotta win today and Sunday. The prospect of Cormier starting is terrifying.
I wish I could watch the game in high definition. It would be neat to actually see the Red Sox hitters with the drool dripping off their chins.
They are a bit oafish.
i have the package on directv and no dice. what in the world is going on?
I’m watchint it via NESN… It’ll be nice to hear the Sox announcers talk crap about us..just like against Houston and the Marlins
Aren’t leadoff hitters supposed to get on base?
Giles rocks!!! He almost had that one!
nesn is blacked out, it would appear
So, yeah, this Jon Lester kid…
K for Giles. K for Renteria. We’re in late-inning form already.
that’s weird..im getting NESN..
ah well…not like it matters
Is the game on FSN and not Turner South, as the schedule says?
Johan SantanaJohn Lester sure had an easy time out thereAndruw almost had that one!!!!
The game is on FSN.
Another 350 feet or so and we’d be in business.
I would hate to see the Braves ruin a good outing by Hudson (if the 1st is any indication)
What makes you so sure this is going to be a good outing? Maybe he’ll turn into a pumpkin next inning.
The NESN guys are drooling over the big screen in Center Field..
We have a lot of regular names on our team. Meanwhile, the Red Sox have Coco and Trot. I think the Braves could use a Flim Flam to spice up the line-up.
I’d rather have a pumpkin pitch than Cormier.
“Chipper” and “Andruw” are not regular names.
And this announcer sucks.
I forget about the mysterious “u” in Andruw.
It’s back on NESN. I’m guessing directv was flooded with thousands of calls from angry chowdaheads.
Red Sox fans are now claiming the game is on channel 740, FWIW.
It’s not mysterious when you’re from Curacao like we are..
Our language..papiamentu..has a somewhat odd spelling
Nice throw, Johnny Damon.
Alright, my optimism is gone.
I knew Braves fans would be outnumbered in their own stadium. Pahtetic
my optimism left when I saw the starting line-up
Dear Tim,
Just because it’s Alex Cora does not mean he can’t hit. Thanks.
Jenny
I hate Red Sox fans.
Well look at the bright side Davey, when you put Pratt and Jordan together, you get an 80 year old liability who can’t hit and won’t retire.
I find it sad that the place is more full now than it is during the playoffs.
And why hate the Sox fans? We get the gate.
why do we have 3 pitchers batting in the 7th,8th,and 9th positions
Why shoudl they retire? They’re getting paid to show up and fail. I’d sure take the $316,000 to do that.
Good point BJ.
Take pictures, people. This is our big shot to see what good infield defense looks like.
Who do you like more Jenny? Braves or Sox
i am hating bobby right now. why? why?WHY?
I wish i could show up at my work…make a crappy website..crash the servers…alienate the clients… add absolutely no value and still get paid $316.000
Hi, I’m the Braves Offense and I suffer from anemia. If you’d like more information, please visit atlantabraves.com.
The Red Sox, unlike the Braves, do understand that the lead-off hitter has to get on base…
Yeah, walk the leadoff hitter. Awesome
You mean they’re SUPPOSED to get on base?
Davey, that’s what I do at my campus job! But I only get $9 an hour.
Cory, I’m going to plead the Fifth here, because nobody ever understands how I can like 2 teams in the same sport and everybody always gets mad at me, so I’d just rather not start.
Great stop, Pratt. Way to move your body there, fatty.
Wow, are all the other teams in baseball paying us to help them win? Sure seems like it sometimes.
Good thing that double play is out of the question.
At least most of his pitches are down.
[Tim McCarver]”The thing about ground balls is, they don’t go out of the ballpark. [/Tim McCarver]
I understand a bit Jenny.. In college football I like the Miami Hurricanes AND the Florida Gators..
But, here where I live, there aren’t any college football fans, so I don’t get any problems.
Baseball Prospectus, early in its history, coined Nichols’ Law of Catcher Defense, which states that a catcher’s defensive reputation is determined by his offensive production- the better his offense, the worse his defense is perceived to be.
Todd Pratt disproves this law- he’s an awful hitter and an equally lousy catcher.
Yet he gets the nod over our best hitter…
You’re a funny man Bobby Cox..
That’s because Pratt isn’t a cathcher. He’s a greeter at Wal-Mart at heart.
Ron Gant is an idiot. I’m going to get an ice pick.
Diaz has to make that catch. Damn.
Ouch, good try.
Diaz taking one for the team
The good news is, with the bases loaded, Varitek usually pops out on the first pitch. No worries.
Make him put it in play.
…..hmmff
i quit.
AHAHAHAH, game over.
I’ll shut up and hide now.
Way to screw us Jenny. THANKS
Seeing this and hearing their fans in our park makes me sick.
We keep finding new lowpoints for the season. This is definitely one.
Who wants to make predictions on how many runs the Sox will score?
I say 10+
I like Diaz, but do you think Langerhans would have caught that foul?
We all can make mistakes Jen..don’t worry..
Look at Bobby…he seems to think that Pratt, Remlinger and Jordan are baseball players.
I’ll take 10+ Lando…our “relievers” still have to get in the game..
This reminds me of game 5 against the Cubs. Anyone that isn’t from New England (or whose parents are not from New England) who is a Red Sox fan is a straight up tool. Noone can ever convince me otherwise.
Rob, we’ve already dug so far down that we can hear Chinese.
I’ll say 5, Lando- Braves lose 5-4. It’s no fun for the Braves unless they can screw with our hearts again.
My prediction would have been fine save for the fact that Hudson threw a horrible pitch that even he could hit. Whoops.
Looking good Todd…
And the strikeouts just keep on coming . . . .
The “Ultimate Braves Experience” sounds terrible! You probably have to sit next to Betemit and McCann on the bench while we get tagged.
What will be higher? Or strike out total or our LOB total?
I think we’re looking at Loss Type 1.1(a), “Plain old-fashioned butt-whipping”.
I hate it when we’re right.
I don’t think Renteria is used to hitting with Giles on base. It might be screwing up his game.
Sorry, it’s actually 1.1(b), also known as a “Sosa” — “Starting pitcher gets through first unscathed, then gets killed on way to blowout”.
Our pitching sucks right now, but pitching doesn’t win games. How about some runs?
K’s, definitely. You can’t be left on base if you don’t get on base.
Ron Gant AKA Captain Obvious
What an asshat.
Jordan looking comfy at first..
Wow. This team has really let me down. Mentally, I feel like its the playoffs and we’re about to be handed another early exit. The only problem, the season isn’t even half over.
Ah crap, is it sad that I’m actually relieved to see Bert in the game?
Hot damn…
The NESN announcers are comparing Jordan’s defense at first..to an defensive back trying to tackle Jerome Bettis..
Oh my god, I don’t think I can handle a full 9 innings Gant stating the obvious
The horror…..
No, Rob. We’ve been too tough on LaRoche, who’s an average 1B on a team with a lot of below average players (2B, LF, RF, backup C, almost all P). LaRoche ain’t the problem. Even if he were, Jordan for damn sure isn’t the solution.
Let Gant be proud of himself.
Did you know that DH’s are usually better hitters than pitchers? No, really, it’s true. I was surprised, too.
“Anyone that isn’t from New England (or whose parents are not from New England) who is a Red Sox fan is a straight up tool. Noone can ever convince me otherwise.”
They’re tools here, too. You have no idea.
My only problem with Laroche is his carelessness. He never seems to be playing full out. Otherwise, he’s a definite improvement over Jordan tonight.
So..to get things straight…
The NESN announcers have watched about 4 innings of Jordan at first..and have already realised that it’s as ugly as David Wells trying to run a marathon.
Yet..Bobby seems to think it’s working
Ron Gant=John Madden.
I blame Diaz. And Cox for putting Pratt (sure out) over McCann. Talk about raising a white flag!
It’s called objectivity, and it does wonderful things. Or maybe it’s just the absence of Cox’s senility.
I used to hate the fact that LaRoche doesn’t play full-out…but after reading the article about him having A.D.D.. I try to understand..
I don’t like it..but..I try to show compassion..
The pitching match-up looks to favor the Braves (on paper), so I’m also surprised to see Dan’s “white flag.”
What just happened???
Francoeur walks. Sun to rise in west tomorrow.
Wow. Frenchy walked. Although ball 3 should have been strike 2.
At what point will the announcers agree to stop complimenting the Braves’ opponents and just say that the Braves are a terrible baseball team.
Ahahahahah, cheers for Frenchys walk and then the pitcher yells
“fuck!” That’s like walking the pitcher.
Agreed, Charles.
Walking Frenchy will do weird things to a pitcher’s psyche
Wow, how much longer can Diaz keep up his good hitting?
Clutch hit.
This would be a great opportunity for Adam to showcase his ability to hit lefties.
“Some good leftys on the Braves bench…Langerhans on the bench..LaRoche who’s in the game now…and McCann… McCann’s been playing very well..”
The NESN guys want to make my night even worse..
i hope adam does something here because we got an obvious out next.
You gotta swing. Pratt with the bases loaded would be painful.
LaRoche ends the inning and leaves men stranded…
Nope..haven’t seen that before
This would be a great opportunity for Adam to squander an opportunity to showcase his ability to hit lefties.
And The Roach comes through with another clutch hit.
If I was caught in a fire I would like Pratt to be the one to come and try to save me.
What’s our LOB to K ratio thus far?
It’s always nice to see the opposing pitchers lower their E.R.A’s against us…
it’s even Robbie… 4-4
I haven’t been called “Robbie” since fifth grade. But thanks for the update.
To ram home the point about Frenchy:
Jeff Francoeur, 12 UIBB in 563 PA including tonight. (1 BB/ 46.9 PA)
Tim Hudson, 6 UIBB in 135 PA including tonight. (1 BB/ 22.5 PA)
Sorry Rob..won’t happen again
No worries, Dave.
Next inning will start the same way another already has: with Pratt and (if he makes it through this inning) Tim Hudson. Two sure outs.
I really hate this. And Cormier really makes it look like there is no hope in the future.
Someone please kill Gant.
Quick…guess which team leads the N.L in blown saves…
Looks like a strike but ends up a ball?? How is he privvy to such knowledge?
90 pitches through the 5th. Huddy won’t be around much longer.
The Mets!
No, he won’t. I also wonder if Lester is on a pitch count.
Yes Ron, Hudson IS a pitcher.
HA!… no Rob. It’s the Braves!!!
13 blown saves and last in the leaugue in pitchig. Mets are ranked # 1
And we wonder why they lead us by 14..
We lead the lead in something, all right!!
The rest of the division is winning, except Philly (trailing Tampa Bay).
If these scores hold up, a loss puts us in 4th place, and only one game ahead of Florida.
Too bad Hudson couldn’t settle down before he gives up four runs.
*league.
At least we got out of one jam.
“And we wonder why they lead us by 14..”
Hey hey hey, it’s 13! I know it will be 14 soon, but still.
Phillies losing again, but Nationals winning. Hello fourth place.
Tell you what, if Pratt and Hudson get back to back hits, we will definitely win this game.
Are you serious? I haven’t really been looking at the standings lately, but I kind of assumed Florida was way down in a pit of despair and we’d be guaranteed 4th. Sort of like the KC of the NL East. I guess not.
Too bad Pratt isn’t catching for Boston…
Game would still be 1-0 then
The Mets lead us by 13. At least until they beat the O’s tonight and we lose to the BoSox.
They were, Jenny, but we’ve healped them emerge- they’ve won 5 in a row going into tonight.
Ron Gant: Braves need runs to win.
In my haste to type..i pressed 4 instead of 3.. my bad..
but, it will be 14 soon..
Could Pratt be any slower?
Wow, alert the presses.
My eyes…they sting…
What..what happened there.. aaahh
Holy shit!
Thats a real man at work.
Buahahah, Pratt’s so slow he shortens a double into a single.
Nice, Hudson. Great hustle.
Holy crap! Todd Pratt got a hit!? What the hell?
Wow, how’d he steal a single from a double.
I’m going to the basement. It’s the apocalypse.
Hudson runs that out its a hit. You know what- F the Braves. I quit.
A little hussle and my prediction would have been intact.
there is not a single in the park that will score pratt.
Pratt slowness just cost us a run.
And Renteria will hit into a double play just to run it in our faces.
Pratt held? You don’t say.
giles with 2 hits.
“No chance for a run to score with Pratt running the bases”
NESN laying it on very thick
Ron “Runs are very valuable right now”
WTF!@ They pay him for this shit? Dude, give me a job!
What will it take for Hudson to hustle out a bunt? Another 20 losses? Another 7 mil?
hahahaha @ Lando
“Wow, how’d he steal a single from a double.”… well Jeff, you gotta keep the double play in order..
Ron “Runs are very valuable” Gant, what a douche.
yes, the mets are the best
i bet they lose this game though
Lester looks human. But we’ve been subhuman lately.
Only way Pratt scores from 3rd is via a HR.
Hoowah. Lester is getting them up now. If he’s on a pitch count better get him now, guys.
Oh please….
chipper desperately needs to come up big here. for his confidence and for our sanity.
Ron “You don’t want to go up there and hit the pitchers pitch cause thats the pitch he wants you to hit, so your outlook needs to be that you don’t want to go up there and hit the pitchers pitch, thats what I’d do”
Ok seriously… Who the hell lets this guy keep his job? It’s just sad…
CHIPPPAHHH
Gant makes Joe Morgan look good..
AHAHAHA, Gant… haahah seriously. This is priceless.
“You know you have a guy up there throwing strikes so the umpires is read y to call strikes for him”
A sac fly! I can’t believe that worked.
ron just said, “getting one run up there is just as valuable as getting 2 or 3.” that might be the dumbest thing i have ever heard.
Come on Frenchy.
Is it just me or did Bobby actually look dissapointed that Andruw didn’t strike out or hit into a doubleplay there? Wow.
That was sinful.
how long has it been since we have had a clutch hit?
2005.
John Lester on the mound… bases loaded….our 3-4-5 hitters…desperately needing runs..
and we get 1
great..
Well that sucked. We had him backed in a corner.
That is the difference between us and other teams right now. With two outs and a runners in scoring position, most other teams always come through against us.
The way things are going, I’m content with one. Isn’t that sad?
Paronto looked like Bobby Cox for a second.
Francouer has to be the dumbest hitter alive.
A 1-2-3 inning? I thought they were just a myth!
I’ll take Francouer up there over Jordan.
Ha ha, silly Lando. Opponents get them on us all the time.
Really? I always thought our hitters were trying to get out.
God I hate Diaz. He misses that ball and swings at ball three which could have lead him to a walk.
Dan where were you when Diaz got a basehit his last at bat? That’s a hell of a lot better than most of the hitters on our team. Renteria, McCann and Diaz are the only players on our team with any consitancy right now.
He can’t throw strikes right now…so why are we swinging?
Rob I told you, our hitters are TRYING to get out.
Ball 9.
Look at The Roach it’s like he doesn’t care if someone robs him of a hit.
Did Ron Gant leave to go to the bathroom? Why is he so quiet. Even when a question is directly asked to him, no response.
Maybe they knocked him the F*** out
Ball 15
Lando, I’m not sure he remembers that he’s supposed to get a hit. This really doesn’t make him any different from anyone else in this POS lineup…
I hope he’s constipated. Then he’ll be in there for awhile.
I saw Diaz miss that fly ball in foul ground that cost the Braves three (3) runs.
God, we suck.
What’s the definition of insanity again?
Rob..
LOB 7… k 5
Am I a bad person for wishing the ball had broke Jordans collar bone?
ron just said, “getting one run up there is just as valuable as getting 2 or 3.” that might be the dumbest thing i have ever heard.
Ryan, I concur. I’m glad someone else heard that besides myself.
RON GANT WATCH
Gant is back.
Just a few more strike outs and we’ll catch up to LOB.
Dan….. I believe Hudson was the one who gave up the 3 run double.
I don’t see how it was Diaz’s fault, he didn’t commit any errors.
I kind of wish Jordan would have to go on the DL. Just say it’s broke. I’m glad he is okay.
I think the blow of the game should be to Ron Gant’s voicebox.
LaRoche moved quickly that time.
Hey, Laroche hustling AND Francouer walking?
Didn’t think Huddy would go 7 innings. Glad he proved me wrong.
That was a break!
Ah…I’m glad I’m watching NESN. Gant would have literally killed me now
I already ahd to sit through some of the worst announcing of all time during today’s World Cup games. Damn our locals guys butchered that..
Yesterday I was watching the World Cup. In the middle of the game between England and Trinidad & Tobago, David Beckham kicked the ball right into a Trinidad player’s, um, growing parts. It wasn’t intentional, but it still left the Trinidad guy on the field in agony until he was carried off.
I bring this up because the Brraves seem intent on bringing us the same kind of pleasure.
Can we please tag this guy?
Was that the guy that stuck his hand right down his pants and started moving it around right on camera? Looked a little…odd.
Not trying to start anything, but soccer and bowling I wouldn’t watch with a gun to my head.
Pete Orr comes through again.
Don’t worry, Dan, we won’t protract the discussion. Yes, Jenny, it was.
And Pete Orr comes in while McCann still sits. Why am I not surprised?
RON GANT WATCH
Ron Gant: When you got a good slider or fastball or curveball, it’s tough on hitters.
Yes..i saw that play Brian. The guy is Dwight Yorke..and ironically..he used to be Beckam’s teammate a few years ago.
He wins the most akward moment of the World Cup award…for the crotch rubbing that ensued..after he got hit. I’m still trying to get over that scene..
Ah well..atleast he doesn’t have to put up with Todd Pratt behind the plate
Same here Dan. Soccer is what other countries have to watch when they can’t watch real sports. What a boring freaking sport.
The worst part is watching grown men fall to the ground and roll around acting like they broke their leg anytime their is minor contact with another player.
Well, there’s no point in wasting your only other catcher, I guess. And maybe McCann isn’t feeling well or something (“fever”). I can see both sides.
Marcus changed his batting stance. It’s a closer stance. Good for him. This should enable him to get those down and inside pitch better….well, not this time…
I love how he’s “Ron Gant” instead of “Ron” like “Matt Damon” in Team America
And when I saw that player on the ground, my first reaction was, “Are you allowed to DO that in public?” It was a WTF moment.
Many people say baseball is boring as well. It’s all because of the lack of understanding in a sport.
Heheh, Maatttttt DDAAAMMMON.
That’s NOT a strike.
Renteria’s got 30 opposite field hits..leading the N.L.
Imagine..if there was a lead-off hitter that would be on base in front of him…
And now imagine a decent first baseman…and a closer… and imagine Brian McCann playing..
ah..a guy can drean can’t he
K’s have caught up with LOB again, 7 to 7.
No Kc baseball is even boring for me sometimes. But Soccer is just BORING.
How the hell can you play a game for that long and a 1-1 game is called a draw? There has to be a winner and loser, just gay. Like when selig called the allstar game, gay.
Um…did we get a new look or is it just my computer?
The last four nights the starting pitching has been good enough to win. Smoltz 6 IP 3 runs. Thomson 6 IP 2 runs. Sosa IP 2 runs. Hudson 7 IP 4 runs. The offense is just brutal.
Should have put Sosa 6 IP 2 runs.
Any “offense” that features Pratt and Jordan will be very brutal..
You can win a game when your pitching is bad. You can’t win when you’re not hitting.
Wow we have just neutralized Ortiz and Ramirez tonight.
I have know problems bashing Pratt and Jordan, but the Jones boys aren’t doing much better.
McBride looken sharp.
How jarring to go from 3,000 fans in Florida to 51,000 here.
Lol, that announcer just stole my line.
15 years of playoff runs and THIS is the biggest crowd in TF history? Pathetic.
Could have used that agility a few innings ago.
AHAHAH and Gant what a tool! “Diaz’s slider looks very sharp tonight it’s looking very sharp, sharp sharp sharp”
Good news: Mets now LOSING 6-3 in the ninth.
There were actually 7,162 fans and 479 dogs in Florida yesterday on Bark at the Park night.
I’m not making that up
Lay off Diaz, he just made a nice play and he has been hitting.
More than I can say for most of the team.
Landogarner, soccer wouldn’t allow a tie in the knockout phrase of a tournament. However, just like every other sports, not every single soccer game is entertaining. That’s for sure.
Jordan hurts himself? What happened? Jordan’s injury usually turns out to be a turning point of a Braves season!!!
Ron Gant trails off every other sentence, as if he’s thinking “stupid, stupid, stupid!”
Hopefully in the way of Bob Uecker…
“I made a major contribution to the Cardinals’ pennant run in 1964. I got hepatitis. The team doctor injected me with it.”
Jenny, 6th largest crows in Turner history.
crowd*
Game over.
The whole team is pressing…
Lando..some soccer games can be boring (baseball also)..and the players might flop (think basketball)..and there can be ties (think NHL of years past)
But soccer has some very good things aswell. Like, the bottom 3 teams in a league will be relegated to a lower division at the end of the season. The top 3 minor leuague teams will take their place..
It makes for great drama..and competition.
The way things are going…the Braves should be relegated
I like the idea of the 6th largest crow swooping into make an appearance.
HAHA!
The guy on the viagra commercial is watching a Braves’ game.
A Mets loss would make this slightly less painful.
Seven pitches.
Guys, you can just forfeit if you’re not going to try to win.
The Braves offense could use some Viagra.
McCann: “Some of us guys need to step it up.”
No, Brian. You’re doing fine. Take the “us” out of that. Everybody ELSE needs to. Stop being so modest.
“Andruw can’t hit a three run homerun if there is nobody on base”
Another gem from Captain Obvious
WHY THE HELL IS LANCE CORMIER PITCHING TOMORROW! THAT IS A SURE LOSS! STUPID STUPID STUPID!
If Cormier can’t pitch ONE quality inning, how is he going to pitch the minimum of five good inning against the Red Sox’s offense?
How’s about giving Papelbon some extra runs to work with
Why the hell is Poronto closing>? Are Stockman and Ray sick with a fever? wth
Ray’s being saved for when we have a lead, which will be on or about the 31st of June. Stockman did just pitch last night.
That’s how much Bobby likes Paronto. Paronto has reach the “Gryboski” status in Bobby’s mind.
RON GANT WATCH
Ron Gant wins a lovely award of tonight’s commentary.

Pitched 1 inning. So you can’t use a closer more than once every other game?
I like Captain Obvious better 😛
Paronto’s doing OK. He’s not the problem. We’ve got plenty of them (Remlinger, Yates, Villareal, Cormier…)
Is our farm so barren as to having Lance “freaking” Cormier make an emergency starter? I’ve always thought our farm was overrated. The whole 15 years.
Where are all these great talents? Power arms, power hitters etc?
double edged sword for me. on one hand i want the braves to win, but on the other hand, i do have pabelbon on my fantasy team.
Oh hell, why not at this point?
Emergency start. Oops
So Diaz can hit the Marlins…and Papelbon. Go figure.
See, Diaz is doing awesome. He’s the last person you can blame.
mccann better be on deck
Let McCann hit!
Please no double play here LaRoche.
Don’t worry The Roach will strikeout or hit into a DP
I wonder if Reitsma would have gotten the start tomorrow if he hadn’t already been placed on the DL. Not that I’m looking a gift horse in the mouth, mind you.
Chief, there are better young pitchers than Cormier in the minor (like Kevin Barry), but JS and Bobby just doesn’t want to call them up for some reason.
Remy, Reitsma has a bone chip in his pitching elbow…
Because of their inherent and complete distrust for anyone under the age of 29. Sickening.
Anything NOT a DP at this point isn’t terrible.
Yeah, I know. But I was just wondering if Bobby would have given Reitsma the start if he were healthy.
At least Adam didn’t hit into DP…
Shit, with McCann on deck, take one for the team!
Reitsma and pitching in the same sentence..haha
I don’t think so, Remy. Not Bobby. That’s not his style.
Look, it’s Brian McCann. He must have gotten the pictures overnighted.
Why do we like Betemit again?
Game over.
RobBroad4th, it’s hard to deliver with one at-bat per game.
He choked yesterday too kc.
And in a game where a great player will fail 7 out of 10 times.
You have high expectation on pinch hitters dude.
…*sigh*
Ah shit.
I never thought Mike Lowell is such a good defensive third baseman.
Well that pretty much sums up our luck.
Yeah, Rob, he “choked.” On a smash line drive. Your expectations are WAY too high, man.
He had a few runner in scoring position and didn’t capitalize.
Unless you meant Betemit, in which case I’ll STFU.
With a 3-15 road trip, I don’t think my expectations can get any lower.
Streak, not road trip.
RobBroad4th,
Baseball doesn’t work that way. Some sabermetricians think there’s no such thing as clutch hitting anyway.
We couldn’t beat Lester…now it’s on to Beckett and Schilling..
Atleast we counter with Cormier. HA..take that BoSox!!
The Betemit supporters are quick on this one…I’m just venting frustrations, I’ll take Betemit over Giles most of the time.
You can’t base a player off 2 ABs, but you can get an impression of what he might do over 400. At this point I’d rather see what Wilson can do with 400 vis-a-vis what Marcus has done with 220, so far.
All I want is SOMEONE to get a hit with RISP. Not necessarily Betemit, but someone. Our one run was a sac fly for crying out loud.
Chief,
Al I’m saying is Betemit had another opportunity to prove he can play 2nd base everyday yesterday and went 1-4 with at least two ABs coming with runners on. It’s unfortunate that he didn’t tear it up because it only reinforces Bobby’s stubbornness to stick with Giles.
Agreed. I wished he would have too, but that ain’t baseball. I played baseball on championship high school teams and had some scholly offers in college and if you can’t accept failure, you’re in the wrong game.
It’s tough. Sometimes you feel like you’re never going to get a hit and then you get a Texas Leaguer and then for a week they’re throwing beach balls to you.
Right now our guys are battling those inner demons. I’ve been through ’em and it’s rough.
Three things from tonight’s game:
1) Holy shit the bullpen pitched not one, but TWO scoreless innings
2) Can we all agree that Diaz should be in the lineup everyday ? All he does its hit, wherever he has been, whatever level, all he does is hit
3) I don’t care if it’s Warren Spahn in his prime out there pitching, McCann needs to be in there hitting fifth, it’s one thing when you’re up 5 or 6 games to play your backup C so much, another when you need a win *BADLY*
From my veiw as a Redsox fan , Your franchise still is to me considered a top teir organization . People expect teams to win it all every year and realistically most teams suffer early endings to the percieved happiness they wanted . Braves fans have been treated to some terrific baseball and many division titles under same management. js is like 14-1 in my eyes if they fail this yr . dont become redsox nation an villify all . sometimes you push buttons like cox , an if they fail so be it . youll be back on top be it this yr or next. mets will collapse in playoffs anyhow
