Is Burrell hurt? Or does he have terrible career numbers vs. Smoltz? Or does Dellucci have great career numbers vs. Smoltz? IMO, we catch a break with that one….
I would post lineups but they look standard. No Burrell and no David Bell for the Phils.

Lance Cormier on the DL, Peter Moylan back to Atlanta.
What the hell. Peter Moylan? Get rid of him. Hopefully Chuck James assumes a more prominent role in the bullpen to cover for the loss of the surprisingly effective Cormier, and Moylan gets James’ old job of waterboy.
Kyle S

Moylan might not be very good but I’d like to see him pitch. 95 MPH for a sidearmer is pretty damn good.

It’s unreal. They tell me that, in order for it to work correctly, I gotta log off and long on at the beginning & end of my session. Fine.

I love it when FOX pans into the dugout and focuses on a player “mining for gold” for about 5 seconds, then realizes what’s going on and hastily switches cameras.

miranda, if you are his mom, we love your son.
But, if you are related to Cox, Reitsma, or LaRoche, you may want to hang your head in shame. Remlinger too. 🙂
ububba
on May 3, 2006 at 8:59 pm
Blame Remlinger. It’s his job.
I’m not crazy about Remlinger on this roster either, to be honest. But it’s easy to bitch when a move doesn’t work out. It’s also kinda pointless. This is what our bullpen is right now. The reason Remlinger is on the roster at all is because it’s fairly suspect.
You can moan about James or McBride all day long, but until they succeed at the MLB level it all sounds like Joey Devine to me.
Miranda
on May 3, 2006 at 9:01 pm
Thanks… I’ll tell him how much you all love him
Nope… not related to any of them or I would most definitely be hanging my head
kc
on May 3, 2006 at 9:03 pm
ububba, James and McBride are not even given a CHANCE to prove themselves, while Bobby keeps wasting meaningful innings on Remlinger. We know Remlinger is done, and I just want to see if McBride can do it. At least McBride hasn’t given up homers like Devine did.

ububba
on May 3, 2006 at 9:08 pm
KC,
Have you been watching this team for the last 16 years?
Cox is going to let these new guys pitch, but not in these types of situations until they succeed in others. Remlinger’s last two outings were bad, but he got out of huge jam vs. the Mets the other night. It wasn’t a mirage; it really happened.
We think Rem is done; Bobby apparently doesn’t.
Perhaps tonight changed his mind.
Maxwn
on May 3, 2006 at 9:09 pm
I agree ububba. And it’s hard for me to blame Cox when you look at our other options, all of whom are either no better than Remlinger, or unproven and you look at the fact that Remlinger has actually been pretty decent this year so far. Relief pitching is a roller coaster. You can’t blame the damn manager everytime a relief pitcher does not get it done. Remlinger isn’t the best possible option to throw out there in the eigth, but we don’t have many that we know are really that much better. They might be better, or they might be worse. I mean, damn, Billy Wagner has blown at least three games already this year. Relievers are unpredictable and its very hard to fill a bullpen with safe and consistent options. You can’t blame Cox for it though unless Remlinger is just not getting anybody out and that has not been the case so far this year.
ububba
on May 3, 2006 at 9:10 pm
Well, Rem hasn’t exactly inspired confidence either…
Mike A
on May 3, 2006 at 9:11 pm
Remlinger was the Braves’ best reliever in April. If you want to look to blame, look towards the front office. They didn’t give Cox many bullpen horses this year, putting all their eggs into the Farnsworth basket and hoping Boyer/Devine could come back.
Maxwn
on May 3, 2006 at 9:11 pm
KC, McBride just got back from an injury. I don’t think its necessarily a bad plan to take it slow before you throw him into these types of situations. And I kind of think they don’t want to make James into a true one inning reliever because they envision his future as a starter and so they use him as the long man. I think that those are defensible decisions although others could be equally defensible.
kc
on May 3, 2006 at 9:15 pm
Yeah, ububba, I know. That’s just how Bobby manages, but when I know Remlinger will blow it even before he threw his first pitch, it gets awfully frustrating.
I am very sure Bobby will use James and McBride in meaningless situation.
Maxwn
on May 3, 2006 at 9:18 pm
Mike A., I’m not even sure you can blame the front office for it. Good middle relief is just scarce. Good pitchers are mostly starters. There is very limited number of really good middle inning guys and closers. I’m not really sure what else the GM could have done to get a better bullpen because I don’t think there is really that much available. This problem plagues everybody and its just really not that easy to solve. It’s like some people say, “You can’t plan for good middle relief, it just happens.”
kc
on May 3, 2006 at 9:19 pm
Maxwn, the kid has just spent the last two weeks pitching in real games. The Braves have been taking his return very slowly, and then Bobby has just refused to use McBride at all in the last four games since being recalled. Not even a chance.
Maxwn
on May 3, 2006 at 9:20 pm
kc, did you know Remlinger was going to blow it the other day when he got out of that jam with the Mets? You think that he sucks so everytime this happens it confirms that belief, but there have been several other times this year that he has been relatively effective.
Maxwn
on May 3, 2006 at 9:24 pm
kc, why is that stupid? It’s only been four days and he’s been hurt. On top of that he’s thrown all of 14 innings in the majors. Why is it a stupid decision on Cox’s part to take his progression into a high-pressure role in the pen? If it were further along in the year and our bullpen had just been absolutely terrible, then maybe its time to just throw the young guys out there, but that’s not how it is yet. Give it time.
Maxwn
on May 3, 2006 at 9:26 pm
That should read “take his progression into a high pressure role in the pen slowly”
kc
on May 3, 2006 at 9:26 pm
Maxwn, I am not the kind of person who has to blame somebody on every lost. However, Remlinger is not fooling people. Just like Reitsma, he may be very effective once a while, but he is just not good enough for such an important role. When Bobby keeps handing important moments to Remlinger and Reitsma, disaster will inevitably happen.
kc
on May 3, 2006 at 9:30 pm
Maxwn, Bobby put Foster and McBride to save Kolbb’s ass last season a few times, and he has used Ken Ray immediately in important moments. It’s not like Bobby hasn’t done it before.
Seriously, I can understand Bobby’s decision in using Remlinger tonight, but Remlinger is a disaster waiting to happen. It is a frustration accumulated since the start of the season. It’s not only tonight.
kc
on May 3, 2006 at 9:31 pm
“Bobby hasn’t done it before” means putting rookies straight into important situation.
Maxwn
on May 3, 2006 at 9:37 pm
Ken Ray is also like 30 years old, while James and McBride are young and pretty important prospects. And Kolb was on an entirely different level of disaster than our bullpen has been so far this year. And maybe Remlinger is a disaster waiting to happen, but that is seriously true of a large number of relievers.
kc

kc

I think the main difference is you have faith in Remlinger and I don’t.
Chase Utley’s nickname in the minors was “SAUCY ETHEL”
JH
Mine was “GREENY LUST? OK”
(using IAS)
Mine was EKIPS.
I don’t get it either.
Jeremy’s … Iron?
Moylan might not be very good but I’d like to see him pitch. 95 MPH for a sidearmer is pretty damn good.
Too bad we won’t get to face David Bell. Trying to get him to ground out weakly is like taking candy from a baby.
What happened to Cormier? That really sucks. He was actually looking semi-reliable.
15 appearances in 26 games happened to Cormier. You had to know it was happening sooner or later (although I would have preferred later, of course).
This is really unbelievable, it seems every game has been on the road, and now an 8 game road trip coming up.
Yep, only 11 of our first 34 games are at The Ted. If we can hang around, that should really pay off down the stretch.
Sooner might be better, if Cormier is healthier late in the year. If.
Moylan’s not a bad choice, really.
Neither is Travis Smith.
Oh, wait, no…
I’d like to thank Fox for sharing Renteria’s loogie with us. Really, that’s the kind of groundbreaking TV we’ve come to expect.
Does anyone else have the trouble that I have with Game Day Audio at MLB.com?
It’s unreal. They tell me that, in order for it to work correctly, I gotta log off and long on at the beginning & end of my session. Fine.
But it doesn’t allow you to log off all the time. I’m not bent out of shape over the $15, but their service is just plain awful.
I love it when FOX pans into the dugout and focuses on a player “mining for gold” for about 5 seconds, then realizes what’s going on and hastily switches cameras.
Also nice are the money shots of players adjusting their, er, packages. Charming.
oh yea… that was not a nice sight… and I was eating!
Does anyone know where the game can be heard?? Thanks again from this west texas college kid that can’t ever watch the Braves unless they are on TBS or ESPN…..
Hey, Pittsburgh is on the board early against the metros.
Nice play Marcus!
Has Smoltz EVER pitched that slowly? Wow.
Oh, well. The Mets tied it up.
That’s very close…
I really hate Diaz, if I was Manuel, I’d bring in Authur Rhodes just to get Langerhans out of the game.
Smoltz is having a good slider going tonight…
Nice call by McCann there.
I think that was Bobby’s call.
Okay, I wasn’t imagining that he was actually safe. Oh, well. Who cares?
What did Diaz do? He hasn’t even been in this game.
Yeah, you’re right. It was nice play either way.
Is the game online?
I’m on MLB.TV. You could use Gameday for free. Or you could shell out $15 for a season’s worth of audio. If you’re stuck at school like me, I recommend it.
Whew. Hope I never have to talk to those mlb.com people again…
Damn, LaRoche just about kept his foot on the bag. I’m not entirely sure that he didn’t.
This link has been reliable for the audio, and it seems to be working today as well…
Jimmy Rollins, you ass-hat. Way to create a HBP.
Rollins did let himself get hit on purpose.
Utley owns Smoltz. I’m nervous.
When are they going to call people out on standing over the plate and not getting out of the way of pitches? This is ridiculous.
Crap.
Our nemesis strikes again!!
Ain’t looking good for four-in-a-row.
Our pitchers give up so many two-strike hits. It’s infuriating.
Yes, Jimmy Rollins is an a-hole. But then again, this is the same person who felt his hitting streak split over 2 years was legit.
Still, if the moron ump is not gonna call it, we’d want Chipper or whomever doing the same thing I suppose.
I hate the Phillies.
Can we please get some runs back Braves and keep the momentum?
man… this aint going so well
Arrrrgggg.
I miss the old Smoltz. You know, the really good one from last yr.
Time to get Chucky James up
Well, I don’t really think it is Rollins’ fault that MLB ruled on his hitting streak the way they did. Smoltz should buzz his chin the next time he comes up though.
Are we ever going to get that second out?
Smotlz has been making pretty good pitches; they’ve just been hitting them. That’s the way it goes sometimes.
wow… I think edgar scared marcus to death on that play… lol… which I jumped too… it was funny though
At least the Braves aren’t alone. Right now the Mets are courageously dueling the mighty Pirates to a 1-1 tie. The Pirates’ run? Pedro Martinez gave up a homer to–you guessed it–Freddy Sanchez.
Only three runs. We got them right where we want them.
C’mon, let’s get a hit at least…
Smoltz-splitter=less effective.
In that Mets game, Pedro’s struck out 7 through 4 innings and Snell has K’d 7 through 3.
No two people are not striking out.
I wish he’d throw his knuckle-curve again! I love how he can just come up with new pitches in about a week.
Maybe next week he can try to invent a forkball?
Stu,
What?
Our 5-6 hitters are hitting a combined .403….
No two people are not striking out.

e-mail 84! I should’ve known!
By the way, finally took some time to go back & read the Nascar arguments in the last thread.
First, it’s just my opinion and it doesn’t make anyone stupid who says Nascar is stupid…it’s my opinion. I am a political moderate and people call me stupid for that, but it’s my opinion so it’s not stupid if it’s what I believe.
Maybe Nascar isn’t stupid…but to me, it’s incredibly boring. I find it unwatchable. I have tried and it hurts my eyes.
Ok, nuff of that.
when are the Braves gonna score? I miss scoring. Runs are nice.
Thanks, that was funny.
“Some people are squirrel-handed. Gregor is a weird name.”
That’s my favorite thing that’s ever been said anywhere.

Brian McCann is my hero.
Rally brewing, perhaps.
Hmm…I don’t think I want John to swing.
Wait…shouldn’t we be pinch-hitting Todd Pratt?
And that is why I didn’t want you to swing, John.
And that’s how you kill a rally, folks.
poor decision.
Agreed–painful.
Smoltz is killing us on the mound and at the plate tonight.

First pitch swinging from Chipper…is Francouer now giving him advice?
Andruw!
ANDRUW… woohoo!!!
Druw!!!
ANDRUUUUUUUUUW…
AJ baby! Both he and Chipper we’re thinking about tying it.
I knew as soon as I played the guy with Andruw in my fantasy team he’d break out of his slump.
MVP.
That’s how it worked last year, too, latnam. 🙂
Hey guess what! Francoeur is down 0-2!
Dang. If LaRoche was faster he’d have been safe there.
These Philly announcers are rapidly becoming intolerable. I may be forced to mute it and blast my stereo instead.
Oh, don’t think I don’t remember Stu.
The league last year had less people in it, so I played you more often. That’s the only reason he hit 51 last year.
wow… dont normally see Brian 0-2 and swing at a pitch that low
it’s okay… he won’t ever do it again! LOL
Myers has thrown 103 pitches.
Miranda, you must be quite healthy, because you laugh a lot.
Funny quote from Peter Moylan on the AJC website about his call-up:
Moylan’s wife got the news of his return to the majors after flying back to Australia. “She arrives [in the United States] the day I get sent down and goes home the day I get recalled,” Moylan said, breaking into a grin. “I may not let her come back.
Mets up 3-1 & they’re playing in a monsoon. Official game now.
This Snell kid for the Bucs has great stuff.
Nice play Chipper!
Stu… I can’t help it! I try not to type it so much, but it’s a bad habbit from text messaging
I got the Yankee/Tampa game on now & Casey Fossum is surely The Lord of Slop.
ububba- Yeah? I noticed he was matching Pedro K for K but giving up a lot more hits. Is he very highly-regarded as a prospect?
Hey, it’s better than crying all the time.
And the ruining of Smoltz’s arm continues….
that’s true… good point
Yeah, both Snell & Pedro were wiff-o-matic tonight.
Smoltz is up to 94 pitches & we just sent him out for the 7th. Bottom of the order, but we’ll see a PH here.
Well, that worked out well after all.
well… we’ll see how the bullpen does in a few minutes… hopefully good
I wish we’d get some runs up before then though… it would make me feel a lot better
Well, we squeezed an extra inning out of Smoltz, let’s make it worthwhile.
Why do I get the feeling that we need to score 2 runs?
I got that feeling too… so you’re not alone
Why bunt on Franklin? He sucks. Swing the damn bat.
The Met game has continued, even though on TV (and outside here) it looks like you’re watching Captain Ahab chasing Moby Dick. The rain is blowing sideways.
Point proven.
I’m sorry, but I just can’t get scared of the Phillies. I just can’t.
I didn’t understand the bunting either…
Chipper… double!
Chippah!
I think we’re gonna see LaRoche in an RBI/GIDP situation soon.
Moby Dick was the only book my high school English teacher ever discouraged us from reading. We had an independent project at the end of senior year and one girl asked if she could choose Moby Dick as her book of study. My teacher’s response? “Yes, but why?” Priceless.
Moby Dick was the reason Cliffs Notes were invented.
The only time I like attempted bunt singles, even with somebody fast like Orr or Francoeur, is when the other team does it. 90% of the time they’re free and easy outs.
Someone could do a “good parts” version.
I disagree with that 3rd strike call… it was outside!
That was a horrible call.
Okay. This umpire completely blows.
That was a ball.
And the pitch the hit Rollins, a strike. Ahhh.
Definitely outside–not even close.
Whoo! No GIDP chance!
Well, Gregory Peck is pretty good in the movie.
Boy, I’m surprised they pitched to Andruw there. Alright, it’s LaRoche Time!
The Phillies are walking LaRoche.
Come on, Francoeur.
Intentionally walking LaRoche with two out?
BWHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
That looks outside to me.
Walk Adam?! Common Frenchy, prove them wrong!!!
But … this is why you don’t hit Francoeur sixth.
This is why the Phillies franchise is a joke. Unreal.
this year I’ve read “The Scarlet Letter” “1984” and “Tess of the d’Urbervilles”
they were all TERRIBLE! I absolutely HATED them!
I’m speechless, too…
First pitch swinging. Whoulda thunk it.
Really? I loved the Scarlett Letter at the time. But don’t ask me about it, it’s been too long.
FRANCOEUR!
Frenchy!
FRENCHY!!!
YEAH!
NICE!
Frenchy!
Charlie Manuel. Moron.
Does he even watch the rest of the league?
I liked “1984,” actually.
Worst book we read in high school was “As I Lay Dying,” followed extremely closely by “My Antonia.” Any book that involves making presentations about how a windmill works automatically sucks.
Walking Adam, that’s awesome!!!
Can you believe this?
Hire some scouts. How do you pitch to Andruw and walk LaRoche?
The Phillies deserve everything they get.
Ahahahha
JEFF! …woohoo
I’d sure like to see Smoltz get this win. I shorely would.
Please don’t pinch-hit for B-Mac…
LaRoche is too slow to try for third base there, but hey, it worked.
Well, no lead is save with Reitsma. We will see…
As long as the run scores, Dan, as long as the run scores…
But Mike, Andruw is right-handed. Adam is a lefty. Don’t you see?
I like to see Francoeur take pitches up the middle too…he seems to hit more line drives to center than to anywhere else.
He hit McCann.
A base hit here for the Reitsma/bullpen room.
C’mon Langer
I think Dan Kolbb started his meltdown in Philly…hope Reitsma will fare better.
Cormier…what a way to show how stupid your manager is!!!
Hahaha. I love it.
All my Phillies-lovin friends up here are speechless.
Manuel is a joke.
C’mon, break it open…
At least Bobby is finally listening to us…
Gotta take 2-0 there…
I disliked all of em! which I hate to read in the first place… I despise it! Now one book I do like is “The Count of Monte Cristo”
Phils announcer lecturing fans for booing.
Dude. These people booed Santa Claus. Are you utterly clueless about the city you allegedly live in?
Kolb’s meltdown started in Washington, I believe.
The only thing the Phils fans actually like is the Phillie Phanatic. They’d go on a diet for him.
Despite Langy’s out, I am glad Bobby didn’t bring in Diaz.
Langy not only deserved the shot, but his stellar defense in left will be good to have out there with the lead.
Bobby, I agreed with the move you didn’t make even if we got nothing from it.
Just want to be said I do give credit when due.
Jenny, in all fairness, the Santa Claus incident was nearly 40 years ago. As for the game, this will be a big test for the bullpen, it’d be great to win this one for Smoltzie.
…and then Bobby brings in f-ng Remlinger.
arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggg
Maybe you are right Dan, I just remember a game last year when the Braves scored a run in the top of the 10th, and Dan allowed two runs in no time.
Remlinger our new eighth inning man?! oh lord….
Plus, we gotta save our bench in case this game gets stupid, like if our ‘pen gives it up.
No, Jenny. Phillies fans are just learning what its like to be a ‘Santa Claus-booing’ Eagles fan.
I’ll wear all my braves stuff tomorrow and get nothing but a few glares.
but if I were to wear a Cowboys jersey to an Eagles game, I seriuously might die.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES
oh great… that was NOT good
He we go….
With Rowand and three lefties coming up, not an indefensible move…
I hate Remlinger. This is not 2001…get this washed up hack out. For f–k’s sake.
Remlinger sucks…doesn’t Cox know McBride is in the bullpen?! Bobby just has to do something stupid once a night…
Utley again….
I think if you put on a Cowboys jersey, period, you’d die. I hear they shoot out invisible rays that give you horrible fatal diseases.
*sick to stomach*
****!
KC–its worse than that: Reitsma is warming up…
I HATE BOBBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, that didn’t take long.
sigh
OMG… I DID NOT JUST SEE THAT!?!?!
You gotta be kidding!?!?!
Thats it.
No more cpliments for Cox from me, ever again.
This is bt.
I just realized that some stupid people will wear a Terrell Owens Cowboys jersey to the Linc next year. That is pretty much asking for death.
Please, somebody try and defend Remlinger
Four-in-a-row and second place and a possible game on the Mets just flew out of the park.
I cannot believe that. I feel sick. We had it.
Just remember: this means we’re one step closer to Bobby realizing Remlinger no longer has it.
As I said, Bobby just has to do something stupid once a night.
Hey he struck out Abreu…..
That’s all i got, putter.
At least it took him 5 pitches to throw it away
I want McBride.
I was in Dallas a few weeks ago and saw some people wearing TO jerseys…pretty sickening. I pretty much can’t wait for that Monday Night Game in October.
Why is Remlinger the primary set-up man?
The K of Abreu keeps him around another few weeks I am sure
Mike Remlinger: Because Bobby felt we should re-live Tom Martin again.
I am incredibly angry.
why is this old piece of garbage an 8th inning guy?
Did Bobby watch any of Remlinger last year? Like with Boston or something? That is who he is now. Not this mythical conception Bobby has of something in 2002 or whatever. This was just waiting to happen.
Free Chuck James.
McBride and Remlinger=blown win.
Remlinger looks like Billy Boy Thornton in Bad Santa.
I love the Philly PA Announcer…reminds me of Eagles games…sigh…
Did he watch last night? When Remlinger got slapped around.
Bobby, are you sitting in the toilet?! Stop this sh*t?!
Okay, Remlinger comes out now.
Now you catch on Bobby.
These are the worst kind of losses. I wish we had just not scored at all.
At least Remlinger’s still in the game.
The Phillies are threatening to have batting practice!
Free Chuck James and McKay McBride!
Seems like he is continuing to fool hitters after the K of Abreu. He only game up singles to them, anyway
If we can hold them here, we’ve still got a chance. We can hit Gordon. Orr will leadoff and get out on the first pitch, but Giles and Renteria can come through.
Oh good…Remlinger is out. I hate hate hate Cox.
When we will be rescued from the Mike Remlinger experiment? WHEN???????????????
Remlinger is the pitching version of Jordan and the old school blind Cox loyalty is out in full force to cost us another game.
Yes, Cox defenders…show yourselves.
Next pickup: Alan Embree or Al Leiter.
Just like last year, keep preferring Foster over McBride when the whole world know who was pitching better.
What about Tony Fossas? He can’t have any less in the tank than Remlinger.
wait a second?
When did Cormier go on the D.L?
Jesse Orosco and Graeme Lloyd would be options, too.
Ken Ray must have caught Remlinger’s “pitching bird flu” in the bullpen.
right before the game today
thank goodness… c’mon guys let’s get something going
I would prefer Rocker over all of those guys, haha!!!
This. Game. Is. Not. Over.
John Rocker, Brad Clontz, Steve Avery, John Burkett, Darren Holmes, Steve Bedrosian. Theres some names
Haha. Exactly, Stu, Exactly.
There is no need to come back if Bobby knows his relievers better.
Let’s just get Chipper up this inning.
Yippee, Pirates tied it in the 9th!
This. Game. Is. Over.
Are we the only team that swings at balls in the dirt!? I only see the Braves do it.
Billy Wagner has blown his third save this year already. He blew only three all of 2005.
There’s no way that’s a strike.
Common, he didn’t have control of the ball when Marcus crossed the base.
Dang it….
Terrible loss. I’m starting to sour on Bobby Cox.
Manuel hands it to us and we hand it right back to him.
We better not do this tomorrow or you’ll see me throwing s*** at Burrell from my seat in left.
We can just about officially blame this loss on Cox. 100%, no argument, nothing comes close.
Now it’s official, Cox. Thanks. Thanks a lot.
Third place sucks, Bobby.
F-ng cut Remlinger already and enough dammit with old guys who cant play. This loss is sickening because it could have been prevented.
Dan, that’s because you only watch the Braves.
Thank you Bobby.
Most commonly heard sentence in Braves history:
“[name of player/object] and Marcus Giles collide…”
Rathborg said Marcus seemed to be holding his wrist on the way back to the dugout.
That’s very funny Jenny, haha.
there’s a new article up on the braves site… good one on McCann… and it talks about Cormier too
Yeah, I am also afraid Marcus gotten hurt on that play…

I’m not crazy about Remlinger on this roster either, to be honest. But it’s easy to bitch when a move doesn’t work out. It’s also kinda pointless. This is what our bullpen is right now. The reason Remlinger is on the roster at all is because it’s fairly suspect.
You can moan about James or McBride all day long, but until they succeed at the MLB level it all sounds like Joey Devine to me.
Thanks… I’ll tell him how much you all love him
Nope… not related to any of them or I would most definitely be hanging my head
ububba, James and McBride are not even given a CHANCE to prove themselves, while Bobby keeps wasting meaningful innings on Remlinger. We know Remlinger is done, and I just want to see if McBride can do it. At least McBride hasn’t given up homers like Devine did.
I am sure Mac is writing a long post-game wrap up…
KC,
Have you been watching this team for the last 16 years?
Cox is going to let these new guys pitch, but not in these types of situations until they succeed in others. Remlinger’s last two outings were bad, but he got out of huge jam vs. the Mets the other night. It wasn’t a mirage; it really happened.
We think Rem is done; Bobby apparently doesn’t.
Perhaps tonight changed his mind.
Well, Rem hasn’t exactly inspired confidence either…
Remlinger was the Braves’ best reliever in April. If you want to look to blame, look towards the front office. They didn’t give Cox many bullpen horses this year, putting all their eggs into the Farnsworth basket and hoping Boyer/Devine could come back.
Yeah, ububba, I know. That’s just how Bobby manages, but when I know Remlinger will blow it even before he threw his first pitch, it gets awfully frustrating.
I am very sure Bobby will use James and McBride in meaningless situation.
Maxwn, the kid has just spent the last two weeks pitching in real games. The Braves have been taking his return very slowly, and then Bobby has just refused to use McBride at all in the last four games since being recalled. Not even a chance.
kc, did you know Remlinger was going to blow it the other day when he got out of that jam with the Mets? You think that he sucks so everytime this happens it confirms that belief, but there have been several other times this year that he has been relatively effective.
kc, why is that stupid? It’s only been four days and he’s been hurt. On top of that he’s thrown all of 14 innings in the majors. Why is it a stupid decision on Cox’s part to take his progression into a high-pressure role in the pen? If it were further along in the year and our bullpen had just been absolutely terrible, then maybe its time to just throw the young guys out there, but that’s not how it is yet. Give it time.
That should read “take his progression into a high pressure role in the pen slowly”
“Bobby hasn’t done it before” means putting rookies straight into important situation.
Ken Ray is also like 30 years old, while James and McBride are young and pretty important prospects. And Kolb was on an entirely different level of disaster than our bullpen has been so far this year. And maybe Remlinger is a disaster waiting to happen, but that is seriously true of a large number of relievers.
So, age is the main consideration? I think that’s the main problem I have in Bobby. He puts too much importance in age.
I think the main difference is you have faith in Remlinger and I don’t.
