This has nothing to do with Cincinnati or aliens, but because I couldn’t think of anything guest commentator Andy Rooney will write today’s game thread.
Thanks.
Did you ever notice that Jeff Francoeur never walks? Why is that? What’s wrong with walking? I like to take a nice walk, now and again. I think that’s the problem today, people are dashing everywhere, running all over, and they never take the time to walk. Why is that?
This has been a game thread with Andy Rooney and will not be repeated unless I get really desperate.
Pretty good impression if I do say so myself.
Three and four for today! WHOO!!
Three OF four, sorry. ;P
Mac, don’t do that again. Please.

It would be nice to take this one.
It is nice to see Chipper looking like old Chipper. Tripples? Beating out a DP (they called him out, but he was safe)
Mets get Scott Olsen today, who’s been pitching well of late. If we could somehow get this one, combined with the Fish beating the Mets, that would be a great way to head into the All-Star Break.
And if anyone’s anywhere near Shea Stadium, please slather butter all over the floor of the Mets locker rom.
Arroyo wasn’t great in his last outing so hopefully we can get some runs off him today
That’s a whole lotta eyebrows Chip..
The word “unibrow” was added to the dictionary this year. Chip Caray and Adam LaRoche should be pleased, as their condition is now official.
I don’t mean to pick, but come on, get some tweezers, people. It’s gross. Sort of like moles with hair sprouting out of them.
Here, Brian McCann demonstrates the importance of keeping the play in front of you.
Huckleberry out sick today! woohooooo, go Thor.
Nice catch ‘Druw…
Andruw makes another terrific run-saving catch. In other news, the sun will set in the west tonight.
In other news, John Thomson sweats..
Brian!!
Nice hit, Brian! He was also running better than usual on Lopez’ bunt in the top half of the inning.
Nice backup Jeffrey.
Andruw’s looking kinda sluggish out there these days..
Thomson’s giving Andruw quite a workout today.
The Mighty Thor strikes again!
The Mighty Thor!!
MA BOY THORRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
NA NA NAH NAAAA NA NA NAH NAAAAAA HEY HEY HEY, GOODBYE HUCKLEBERRY!
I don’t know what’s bothering me more, Bronson’s name, or his hair..
Alright Marcus!
Marcus! He’s coming out of his slump.
Hair. Definitely the hair.
Wow…these are the Braves of old
Yeah, I said the same thing last night Davey. Don’t know what turned it around but let’s hope it continues.
Let’s hope Druw can do something here…
Ugh, let’s hope Andruw breaks out of his RISP slump.
Just missed it
Well that was a loud out.
Thomson’s out! Pulled sweat gland?
Oh boy…it’s up to the bullpen now
That was strange.
I wonder what the deal is…..Thompson did not look like he thought he should come out.
“He’s kinda the vulture coming out of that bullpen”
No no Chip, don’t be modest. He IS the vulture..
Use the capital letters: he’s The Vulture.
As for the Chip’s spat with “his friends” at SI, for every two-out RBI, there are several ABs like this last one- where he greatly reduces the chance that the Braves will score in the inning.
I thought it was his friends over at Espn..
Well, I’ll be watching the World Cup final now…France is already leading
Yup those major league leading 35 two out rbi’s reallly hurt a team. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH
Yup those major league leading 35 two out rbi’s reallly hurt a team.
I think we’re all aware that “major league leading 35 two out rbi’s” is the moral equivalent of dropping some change on the ground so that no one notices the near historic number of outs Jeff makes. He simply is not a major league starter at this point.
Lando, Jeff’s hitting a .273 w/ 2 outs and RISP, good enough for 44th best in the NL. Maybe he’s just getting a shitload of opportunties, hmm? Just a thought.
Andruw is not hitting much better than that Jeremy and I don’t see you jumping on him.
The guy is going to have 120+ rbi’s if he continues like this. Anyone who can sit here and say that’s not good enough is a moron, that simple.
Doesn’t matter if he is getting more opportunities if he doesn’t drive them in in those opportunities he wouldn’t have 63 rbi’s.
Andruw has 60 points of OBP and 40 points of slugging obn Jeff, so yeah, he is doing much better, moron.
Oh gee Frenchy sucks! LOL idiots.
You guys are retarded I swear.
Atta boy, French.
THOR! Can’t wait till he replaces Huckleberry.
Nice. The marlins just got two off Glavine and still have two on with two out in the top of the 6th.
Frenchy might not be a major leaugue hitter YET..but you have to admit that he’s been much much better at the plate during the past 2 weeks.
And I’ll keep defending him.
.261, 17 hr and 63 rbi’s going into the break is pretty good for someone that doesn’t have the plate discipline YET.
Lando, that RBI total is just for suckers who use it to convince themselves that a player like Vinny Castilla is still good. I won’t say it’s totally meaningless, but it is completely context driven. You are using it to convince yourself that JF is an offensive force, when he is by any other measure for starting OF’ers, a very poor hitter.
This will be a great win to have, if things continue this way. Having these hits by the main guys and a clutch showing by the bullpen going into the break is pretty symbolic because it’s what plagued us in June.
He’s the next face of the franchise for good or ill, so there was never a chance that he wouldn’t start this year. He may yet turn out, but he’s a ways off.
Spike, I don’t think that you can use numbers at all to justify or compare anything that Frenchy does. There aren’t any stats that measure what a guy means to the team and the crowd that watches it.
Seven and three on this homestand will be pretty sweet. The offense is healthy, the bullpen is holding up. If we get any starting pitching, this team is going to be very dangerous in the second half.
I never played soccer. As a deep-south football player, I always considered those guys to be wimps (falling down every time they got breathed on). I generally don’t watch soccer. I don’t have a country to root for. And I don’t care who wins between Italy & France. Why do I feel compelled to watch anyway? Strangely, I am.
AHAHAHA, I could say the same thing about you and other other people ripping on him Spike.
Around 40 homers and 120+ rbi’s IS an offensive force. I think anyone on the Braves team would agree with me and look at you guys like you are smoking crack.
That sucks.
Darn. Good thing we got those insurance runs last inning.
That hurts..
Did I say the bullpen is holding up?
The face of the franchise is the guy behind the plate. You know, the guy with a BA 78 points higher than Frnechy, an OBP 122 points higher, and a SLG 68 points higher (andmore if he could actually run).
If anyone is watching tbs then you just saw what he did to his young pitcher…really showing some good leadership huh.
I am talking about Miguel Cabrera.
I would agree with that Brian. I never said he was the face of the franchise and I don’t think he is. He’s just a popular face.
What happened to Cabrera?
He didn’t hustle down the line to get a slow grounder and his pitcher(Scott Olsen) didn’t like that, so when they got into back to the dugout they confronted each other. After some jawing Olsen was walking away and Miguel stuck his finger in Olsen’s eye.
Brian, I agree that McCann is better, but that JF has been more marketed by the team. I haven’t seen McCann’s Cans yet.
Also Frenchy is the one doing all of the Braves’ commercials.
FWIW, Florida ties the Mets in the 7th. Glavine out. Glavine denied.
Stuck his finger in his eye????? lol what?
Yea he poked him it the eye…
I doubt very seriously Frenchy will get to 40 hrs. He’s hit 17 in 89 games, and needs 23 in the 73 remaining. But it doesn’t matter anyway, if he keeps making outs at his current pace, he’s a net liability.
That’s just odd. Did Olsen have to come out of the game?
Isn’t Stockman off of the D.L. yet?
He is no longer pitching but I am not sure if that was the reason or not.
Great job McBride, getting Griffey to swing in a big RBI spot.
Boy, McBride got lucky. But I’ll take it.
Wow…that was a big k
Stockman went on the DL on June 24, so he’s eligible to come off after today. Whether he will be I don’t know.
Another opposite field hit, I love these.
Man I hope Chipper can extend that extra base hit streak.
Yes!!! Chipper.
Ask and you shall recieve, Jay. And we shall recieve a bad call- Renteria was safe.
Give credit where it’s due, that was a good play and a good call by the umps. Just didn’t go our way this time.
Yea the tag was after Renteria’s foot crossed the plate.
ANDRUW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ANDRUW!
Not to second-guess, but there was no reason to run Edgar there—there was nobody out. If it’s even gonna be close, you hold ’em.
Well, forget that. Andrew just creamed Coffee.
Does anyone else’s bat slam on the ground when they swing!!!LOL
What a blast.
BMac
Atta boy ‘Druw…
Good to see our offense like this again..
And the bad punns continue.
pun*
LOL, he said they are coming out to try and stir Coffey up a bit.
I just wanted to note (as the Coffee Underachievers in the booth did with some surprise) that Andruw lost his footing in the batter’s box. That happens pretty regularly to him, and is one of the reasons he gets down the line so slowly at times.
I’ll take the puns all day as opposed to the Springfield Isotope announcers on FSN/TS.
Those silly announcers and their silly shananigans…
Another pun. “Frenchy had a walkoff hit against Coffey,he’ll try for a second cup here”
Hehe, at least our announcers have fun.
Hey, look! Frenchy made two outs! :-p
Well the game wasn’t on the line so he decided to go easy on the poor Reds.
Holy shit Thor is on fire now. I think he want’s Huckleberrys job. yay!
Chip, for most people, $350,000 is considered a lot of money.
AHAHAHAHAHAH, that kid. Their reactions were priceless.
Bad news- David Wright just hit a 3-run HR off Logan Kensing. 7-5 Mets in the 8th.
$350,000 is loose pocket change for Chip…
The Metroids strike again.
I hate to say it but Damn, how good defensively is Brandon Phillips?
….. McCann’s ankle strikes again. I would love to see him sit out the allstar game just to rest that ankle.
World Cup Final in OT.
Should I find it odd that our recent “good play” has co-incided with Chipper’s hot bat and also Marcus’ better hitting?
Sosa with a 5 run lead in the ninth…
Where have I seen this before??
Think Sosa can get 3 outs before he gives up 5 runs? That 8th run looks huge now.
one more strike come on.
if the world cup final is decided by a shootout, that would be further proof what a fraud the sport of soccer is. that’d be like the NBA having a free throw shooting contest if the game was tied after 2 OTs. ridiculous.
That’s a nice way to head into the break.
Now that was another fine win. Take this show on the road, and we’ll be in the playoffs before you know it.
OMG did Sosa just pitch a scoreless inning.
Just before the mlb.tv broadcast went off Chip said “Villareal got it, man…”
The Vulture strikes again.
If nobody scores in OT, I think they oughta determine the winner by playing rock-paper-scissors.
How else do you want the game to be decided Jeremy??
If you let them keep on playing after 120 minutes, those players might collapse and die.
This ain’t baseball where people can stand around for hours…or football where Viniateri can kick a long field goal and end it in overtime
Villareal leeches off these wins like my cousin Robert leeches off my music collection
I just got in from lunch with my folks, and man does this make my day! What a great way to head into the All-Star break. I don’t even know what happened to give us the win, and I don’t care. On paper, this is a game we should not have won, with Thomson facing Arroyo. Go Braves!
that’s a load, davey. let ’em keep playin’. i’d go sudden death after the second OT; someone will eventually score.
Those guys can hardly run anymore after that second overtime..to let them keep playing is putting their lives at risk..
I’m not the biggest fan of penalty kicks either, cuz I usually watch my team lose those..but I just don’t see another way.
Remember, guys can’t sub in and out here like in basketball or football.
And there’s only 3 subs allowed, just like baseball…
Zidane gets a red card, sucks to see him leave like that.
God that headbutt would hurt so bad.
That was ugly what he did. A player of such class, doing something so ugly, in such a big game.
Shame on him
I never really watched soccer untill this year, but now I like it alot and I haven’t missed a game.
i see your point about the exhaustion, etc. it just seems like a flukey way to decide a game. to me, anyway. i’m not a soccer fan, though, and probably won’t watch another game until the next world cup, so what the hell do i know.
I am actually watching the soccer game, and I think they need to cut the lineups to 9 men. There are just too many people on the field. Every time France attacks it looks like there’s more blue than green in the box.
It is flukey Jeremy..I agree with you 100% on that.
But the sad part is that there isn’t another way to decide things…
but who cares, Sosa pitched a scoreless inning and preserved a win. That’s more impressive than anything else right now!
BTW, what language do they trash-talk in?
Most of these guys play together on European clubs, so they must understand each other somehow..
But I’ve always wondered that too Mac..

As someone who has been to 35 countries, whenever two people meet who aren’t sure of where someone is from or don’t speak the language of the country they are in, English is always the first choice to try and communicate.
1-0 Italy
1-1
2-1 Italy
3-1 Italy
3-2 Italy
4-2 Italy
4-3 Italy
Italy wins!!!
Congrats to Italy I guess…
Can’t stand ’em – they’ve taken more dives than Greg Louganis. But that’s the sport I guess.
Yet another reason to hate soccer.
Why the HELL are they cutting his hair?
USA, World gamis is on ESPN2.
