Getting up at the crack of dawn was useful before the invention of electricity because we needed to do our work during the day. Luckily, we are no longer constrained by needing the light of the sun to perform our duties. Therefore, it makes no sense for human beings to get up while the earth is still cold and miserable.
There’s no nobility to early risers. That’s an idea that needs to die. They’re just stuck in the past.
Let the sun warm things up, get up later and then stay up later into the evening.
If you live in a place where it never really gets warm (up North), I don’t know what to tell you–except Relocate.
**If you like the mornings, cool. It’s just a personal preference, though, and not The Right Way. Get out of my face.** That’s what you should tell your brother.
Hmmm.. we seem to have come across a pet peeve of mine.
How ’bout we win today? Anything is recoverable at this point in the season, but avoiding the sweep would be reassuring.

Any win at this point, no matter how ugly, would be huge. But, if we win 2-1 today, I don’t think we are going forward. We need to get some offensive confidence today and score at least 6 runs…that’s how we can start fresh and enter May on a better note. We have to start somewhere and today is a great day for this.

Just walked back in from the grocery and was listening to Skip & Joe on my XM 183 Channel and this is the conversation:
Joe: “Adam always looks like it’s 3-0 and he’s taking all the way when he’s at the plate. Very noncholant.”
Skip: “Well, there was another Brave who always looked that way and his name was Henry Aaron…and it worked out pretty well for him!”
Ummmm, Skip just compared LaRoche to Aaron.
I think I am going to BARF.
LaRoche shouild be compared to what he is: A pathetic, useless amoeba who’s killing the middle of our order, BOBBY.
Sorry…Skip set me off with that remark.

Alex, I almost always defend Bobby Cox, but you’re absolutely right. There is absolutely no excuse for the way Bobby has buried Brian McCann in the batting order. He’s one of our best hitters–I’d rather see him at the plate than Andruw right now–and the idea that he’s hitting behind LaRoche and Francouer is just LUDICROUS. Whenever John Thomson pitches, he should hit 7th and Frenchy and LaRoche should be batting 8th and 9th, respectively.

Few things annoy me more than Bobby’s treatment of Brian McCann. He’s just used wrong. Period. It’s like Bobby has this preconceived notion of a)left-handed batters and b)catchers that keeps him stuck way too low in the order and benched against LHP when he doesn’t need to be. I love Bobby’s track record, but this is not 1970. Look at a friggin’ stat sheet! This kid is better than he’s being given credit for.

Interesting tidbit from my car trip from the grocery on Braves Radio/XM 183:
According to Joe, the Braves don’t normally take batting practice on Sundays but they did today.
Good. They shouldn’t be relaxing at all these days, 7 games (hopefully 6) out.
Barring for the Giles baserunning blooper, this has been a terrifc inning in terms of playing the basics and making good solid contact with the Baseball and getting hits the other way.

I think skip is a lot funnier on radio. I guess he figures there’s less people listening.
Harry – “That’s all we got one g**d*** hit?!”
Monty – “You can’t say g**d*** on the air!”
Harry – “Don’t worry nobody’s listening anyway”
The way that Fox thinks… I believe that the reason that they’re going with the Rathbun-Torborg team is that they already have contracts with those guys, but there will be shuffling after the season, and Turner won’t have any reason to keep five guys for 45 games or so. Sutton is the most famous of the Braves’ announcers and a fairly polished presence now, and would fit in with the kind of analysts they have. Chip is the only really young guy on the team and Fox likes young PBP guys, plus he’s worked for them before. That leaves the other three for the sporadic TBS games and radio.

my brother gets up at the crack of dawn and thinks everyone else should also… it kills me!
…anyone read this… didn’t know if it had been posted yet
Blank might accept minor role
http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/stories/0430sptbiz.html
Cary, I think you’re living in a fantasy world.
yes… a win would be great! it would def help my feelings… we need to win this game badly! hopefully we can do that… we’ll soon see
Any win at this point, no matter how ugly, would be huge. But, if we win 2-1 today, I don’t think we are going forward. We need to get some offensive confidence today and score at least 6 runs…that’s how we can start fresh and enter May on a better note. We have to start somewhere and today is a great day for this.
I’d like to see Davies keep Delgado in check like he did in New York. I’d like Davies to build on Thomson and Remlinger’s performances last night. Give Delgado something to think about every time he faces the Braves.
For once, the Braves finally have their normal lineup back…
Wait, the normal lineup was back against Pedro…never mind…

SS Tony Pena was sent back to Richmond and pitcher Macay McBride was called up.
With a Braves win today, the Braves and Mets will have split their season series so far, 3-3.
The last time the Braves had a losing record in April, the went on to win 102 games.(2002)
McBride is finally up? Thank goodness. I thought he got himself injured again when I know he hasn’t pitched in the last three days. I am glad the Braves take him slowly in his comeback. I don’t want McBride to be like Boyer and Devine.
I agree… I think the slow return was good and hopefully things will go very well for him now…
I really don’t care how ugly the game is, just need a victory.
Edgar is so good.
Geez, this will be a three-hour game for sure…
How about Andruw stealing a base here?
How about Adam contributes a little bit?
Freaking hopeless. How can anyone still has hope of this kid…
I think Adam LaRoche is a little like the Grand Canyon: he’s always there, he doesn’t offer surprises, and he’s a lot more of a negative than a positive.
He has really gotten worse year-to-year. His best season will be his rookie season.
Well, it’s hard to find anything positive with Adam. So, I will just treat that as a joke!
I am glad Andruw is still catching out there because he’s doing sh– at the plate.
But I put the blame squarely on Bobby’s shoulders for continuing to put LAROCHE behind Jones in the order…if he would still a reliable hitter behind him like McCann, we might RALLY more.
I used to blame Andruw for more things but really, you can narrow all Brave ills down to Cox and two players: LaRoche and Reitsma.
I am sicked of Chip Carey. If there is anyone I don’t miss with the TBS crew, it will be Chip.
Davies is looking real sharp again tonight
Alex, it’s tough to be the cleanup hitter if the number 5 and 6 hitters are hitting like sh*t.
Bobby has even used Estrada at the cleanup spot before, so I don’t understand what Bobby is thinking…well, I never did…
Hey, nice job Frenchy!
Well, that’s a good start! Way to go, Jeff!
Another prove why McCann should bat fifth.
AAR,
Once again…you preach with smarts and common sense. Yes, Francouer asnd LaRoche should not be the guys protecting the Jones boys. How does Bobby NOT see this problem.
And speak of the devil, there’s that kid McCann again…an intelligent mature kid at age 22. Give this kid a boost, Bobby.
kc-
Sorry…my compliments to you as well…another Braves fan with COMMON SENSE.
Also, I love Steve Trachsel. I hope they leave him in all game.
LANGY!!!
YES! Way to go, Ryan!
Skip and Joe were saying the Braves had gone something like 25 straight innings without stringing together three straight hits. Streak over–offense alive. Rally time!
Jenny, Bobby never gave Klesko his proper chance, and I could never understand that…
For a team that forgot how to hit, suddenly, this inning, we have put on a clinic at how to do things the right way.
I actually didn’t think that was a very good bunt. Yeah, it worked, but he popped it up.
When Frenchy, McCann, and Langy are going good, Adam can still hide in the lineup pretending he is not a problem. Must like Reitsma is sitting in the bullpen thinking he is not a problem because of the existence of the other problems…
Whee! Marcus!
Marcus!!!
I agree with Don, good play by Marcus to draw the cutoff and throw.
Why can’t we do this every game?
Amen Jenny, Chip’s way off on the bunt call. Davies got the job done, but almost muffed it.
Well, it does help to face Steve Trachsel instead of Ben Sheets. This guy doesn’t exactly frighten me. Sheets scares the crap out of me.
And thank God for Rentaria…who, by the way, has a 16 Game hitting streak (when healthy).
We need a guy like him.
Alex, Trachsel is just leaving pitches with no movement over the plate. My gues is that it’s Trachsel and not BP, but I’ll take any spark I can get.
Wow…three runs…Santa with our late x’mas present.
AAR,
I agree…Traschel is a very average pitcher and Davies should be able to out duel him, regularly.
Still, I will take my Grandmother on the mound if it helped get the Braves bats going. This game should be used as a catapault, no matter who the pitcher is!
Please, Edger…I don’t want you to get hurt…
Agreed Alex, I’ll take any spark.
Hey–Edgar Renteria just stole a base, and made someone a winner in the Toyota Stolen Base Inning!
I love Edgar Renteria. Right now he’s our most valuable offensive player.
ok, Chipper is still in spring training mode…
Yeah, kc, his knee didn’t look like it was in the most comfortable position after that steal huh?
Please score more runs, my heart can’t handle seeing Reitsma saving a close game today…
Shoot… why’d he have to walk Jose Reyes?
kc,
I would be thrilled for the Braves to win the division and not get another “save” the rest of the year if it meant we didn’t have to have him be out there in a close game. Can’t stand the guy.
Damn it.
There will be some disagreement on this and masybe it’s my bias but that’s ADAM’S fault.
A GOOD FIRST BASEMAN makes that play…even if the throw is a bit low.
It has been very typical this season…our pitcher struggle immeidately after the Braves score…
Nice snag, Adam.
Hey, Adam LaRoche just made a great play! In fact, the Mets announcers just said, “That was a Keith Hernandez play!”
That’s why I can’t get next to someone saying Adam’s defense isn’t good.
wow…ok, even Adam can make a good play now & then. Can’t believe he did that. …and then Beltran f–s the whole thing up again for us.
……………………………………..
LaRoche haters: If not for Adam, we are tied right now.
Cna we please get some more runs today and actually have a good, solid confident win?
Defensive stats are bullsh*t. I have said it once, and I will say it again and again.
Mike, a first baseman should hit more. I don’t want a Belliard at first base.
KC, I’m sure you’re right… I just believed them in Adam’s case because I don’t need much convincing to believe that he sucks.
If we ever had a chance to break out of this funk, today’s the day, a beautiful Sunday home game against Steve Trachsel.
Cool, I like that!!!
I hate Chip Carey.
Hey, everyone always said Andruw was more valuable than he appeared because of his run-saving defense. LaRoche just saved a run. He’s no Andruw in the field, but give him some f’in credit for once.
Can we blame this inning on Roger McDowell?
Oh yeah, Adam made a great play. That’s why I said defensive stats are bullsh*t, but that doesn’t take away the fact that he is a cancer on the offense.
Nice pitch! Thank God that inning’s over.
As I said, it has been very typical this season that our pitcher struggles immeidately after the Braves score…more attention should be paid on that…
Way to go, Andruw!
I take a phone call and when I come back the game is tied…. So was it just an infield hit, a homer, a walk, HBP, and single? How hard was the single? It sounds like Davies only made two mistakes that inning.
I thought that ball was gone. But, I’ll take a double. Nice hit.
My Prediction: Adam goes yard!!!
Going to the other way…I really like that!
what is up with hitting wright in the head. I yhink chipper needs to hit now
Hey, we didn’t get our season turned around till interleague play started during some seasons over the past few years. I’ll admit I’m more afraid of these Mets than last years Nats, but we’ll come around.
he got hit in the shoulder, not the head, calm down
Stop the presses: Adam LaRoche grounded out to the right side!
good game today
Too bad trax is sucking balls right now He will give up around 5 runs this game
Hey, the Mets can’t take a hit? Wagner hit Andruw couple nights ago.
show your skills like you did in the 2nd frenchy !
it loked like the head to me
Skip: “Trachsel will, because of the rules, inevitably have to throw one.” Well said.
And now Frenchy’s 2 for 2!
Nice Frenchy!!!
oh damn
yay frenchy ! that’s the way to hit !
Carlos Delgado sucks!
ALex are we in BP right now?
Pull trax, put in heilman
I think Wright deserved a beanball, even though this one was unintentional. The Metros hit Andruw, it’s only fair that the pretty boy gets a little dirty too.
Mets announcers: “You have Jorge Julio, who hasn’t pitched in a while, and is ready to go.” Please, Willie, please…
Delgado sucks?????? Think you may be wrong
Mets fans…I love it…using Heilman now?!
This is where Met dominance ends, not this game, but the idea of running Trachsel after Pedro and Tommy G.
Raoul,
If we are in BP, I hope we stay there!!!
But McCann has been a mature contributor all season long so not surprised he would do something effective.
Bad Defensive 1B, Exhibit A: Carlos Delgado
You’d think the Met fans would know their own team. It would never be Heilman; it would be Darren Oliver as the longman.
As I said before, the Mets lack pitching depth.
He’s talking defense NYMETS and yes Delgado sucks at first. The Mets other than Beltran are bad defensively. It should cost them a couple of games, maybe this one if we get a big hit here.
Wow. Productive outs. Who’d have thunk.
Agreed Alex, McCann already plays like a seasoned pro in certain situations.
Skip: “I wonder if Trachsel takes this long trying to decide what to wear in the morning. Must be distressing.”
Joe: “He probably spends a long time in front of the mirror.”
Skip: “I don’t know where we’re going with this line, but we’d probably better stop it abruptly.”
I love Skip!
Damn. Even Davies got a good shot. Mow ’em down now Kyle.
Skip is the best voice in the biz
Aw, darn. Davies hit that ball hard. But I feel good as long as they leave Trachsel in there. He’s clearly not doing a good job getting our guys off their rhythm.
It’s amazing–we haven’t hit a single homer yet. Usually when the Braves start slumping they can’t score except from the home run.
Common Kyle, you started off the game so well…
Kyle’s changeup is not changing much…
That ball kept going… good thing we have Andruw out there or it might have dropped.
Skip: “Andruw makes it look so easy it’s… ridiculous.”
Was that the Indiana Jones theme for Andruw after that catch? That’s great stuff.
Is it cold in Atlanta today?
I just checked the Weather Channel, and it looks like it’s around the low-60s in Atlanta. So, not especially cold.
It was pretty brisk this morning on the north side at least. It was a little cool for April 30th.
ah cmon kyle you started it well don’t do that
Thanks AAR…looking for excuses on Kyle’s control problem today…
I think he got rattled after the Beltran homer and hasn’t been able to find his rhythm.
Bad pitch, but Matsui chased it, and that’s a nice break.
Yeah, Kyle missed that pitch to Beltran…that was a fastball right down Broadway…
Oh, also, Skip has this as an explanation: “The strike zone is about the size of a pea today.”
Way to come back, Kyle…
Thank goodness. Good job Kyle. He is a tough kid.
AAR,
After the HR, Davies lost it for awhile. Two walks to the pitcher & Reyes is hard to do.
Hopefully, he’ll get us through a few more innings and we squeeze out some, ahem, Reitsma Room.
Skip: “And it’s 3 and 0. This game desperately needs another walk.”
Is Chip responsible for talking up the Braves’ opponent?
Skip: “His outfielders are all standing out there, pictures of disgust. The pitch, and it’s low–better throw to first again.”
Skip: “Nobody minds a three-hour game if something’s happening. But watching a guy scratch himself and wander around the mound is hardly big-time entertainment. I’d be shouting Day-O too.”
I’ll try it again – He is going yard here!!!
Please Adam, prove me wrong.
c’mon jeff, take care of business
Good at-bat Adam.
No more Trachsel? I was starting to like that guy…
Even odds on Frenchy swinging at the first pitch?
I’ll take that bet, Ububba.
We lose, but I’ll take it!
Francouer is 3 for 3!!!
Frenchy!!!!!!!!
YAY francoeur
This ump is certainly not late for dinner.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the New York Mets are the New York Mets. They have always been, and will always be. You can change your roster, but you can’t change who you are.
This ump is unbelievable.
Talking about the umpire.
Joe: “I just looked this up. In Spanish, Alfonzo means ‘keyhole.'”
Skip: “I’ll say this, he’s consistent: nothing is a strike.”
Frenchy could make brain surgery look easy.
Was Delgado trying to pull a Cerrano and carry the bat around the bases with him?
Skip is hysterical.
If only Frenchy could make consistent hitting look easy…
BTW, get used to this team. I was telling Alex on Friday, I think that there’s a good chance that Fox will sign Chip and Don as their regular team starting next season.

Maybe he’s just streaky.
FRENCHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Franky got all of that one.
Ka-Boom!
Frenchy is 4×4.
It’s gotta be that Delta commercial!
Francouer’s having a great day. Thankfully, this will lead to some sort of consistency b/c of this game.
*sigh*
See what I mean??
Frenchy is even more streaky than Andruw.
The bad news is that every hit he gets makes him think that horrible haircut is actually working.
Gotta to give Adam some credit for that haircut.
Ken Ray, way to go.
Nice play Chip. Thanks Bobby for that stupid shift.
Let’s keep scoring. I wanna see so much Reitsma Room that we don’t see Reitsma.
I have a “No Reitsma” agenda point for today’s game.
Shat, i just turned the game on and missed all the good stuff…like wonderboy going 4-4 5rbis
I think we miss Pedro and Tommy G over next weekend’s series in New York. Winning this game could set us up nicely for that series.
Oscar Villarreal is the suck.
I think he’s being overused. That says a lot about the state of our bullpen right now.
Awesome. The big guy’s loosening up. This one’s in the bag!
Is that the 3rd walk we’ve given Reyes this series? How have we walked Reyes 3 times?
And Reitsma pitches his way out of it!
Wait… huh?
Well, I’ll take that.
And…time for another run or two.
ok Mac, we fixed the hitting, and the pitching is becoming a concern again! It’s all Bobby’s fault, haha.
Good job Chris…for once…
Now let’s get us some insurance runs.
Three runs up in the ninth & you need insurance?
Yeah, nothing is safe with Reitsma.
I thought Clontz pitched like Bradford…does my memory serve me right?
KC, nothing is safe with Reitsma except our disdain.
Clontz didn’t go that low — he was more like 3:30, Bradford is about 5:00.
Clontz wasn’t anywhere near as low with the delivery as bradford, or as good.
i hated the clontz era.
Yeah, you are right Mac, almost like throwing a bowling ball…
Oh man, that was a 78-mile an hour fastball right down the middle of the plate, and Andruw was watching it all the way 3 and 0.
I feel like I coulda hit that pitch.
Wow, three walks for Andruw?! That has been lacking from his game recently…
AAR, Andruw is trying to make Adam works.
Adam is definitely going yard this time!!!
Hopeless.
You know, I think Jeff should go unshaven a little more often.
Hey guys, just got in…man, laroche is just awful, huh?
ok…can’t locate his fastball again…
DIE.
Can we get a groundball?
Can JS and Bobby be more…blind?
Jesus. He has no command.
Anybody warming up?
I don’t know if it’s better to be lucky than good, but Reitsma certainly isn’t good.
GIDP, let’s get ’em.
Reitsma should just give up on his fastball.
A strikeout, small miracle.
Stay with the changeup and the curve Chris.
You have got to be kidding me.
Typical Reitsma luck.
So, he is neither good nor lucky…
Wow… I have to say though, that’s a fun thing to watch.
WOOOOOOOOO! WHAT A PLAY FRANCOUER!
Frenchy!
FRENCHY!!!
Golden Boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeez. Heart-stopping.
Good game, guys.
Anyone have a Player of the game? Anyone?
NICE
Chris is lucky today Mac.
Frenchy just saved your butt, Reitsma. Now get off my TV.
Nah, he was unlucky if anything if you think about it. He did allow the walk, but Floyd’s hit was about 92 feet, and he almost gave up a two-run single on a Rietsma Bloop.
Keep sporting the Sunday reds, I can’t count how many special things I’ve seen in those uniforms. I’ll always love Hampton’s 15-0 complete game shutout with an opposite field homer at the plate.
I’ll tell you, I liked how Davies fought through his troubles & that microscopic strikezone today.
Again, he had plenty of baserunners (101 pitches in 5 innings), but he really earned that win by striking out some guys when he needed it.
FRENCHY!!!!
What a game 😀
Yeah, that was a real superman performance by Francoeur today.
