I thought I might come in to work yesterday and do a wrap up just after the game. However, my retired wife wanted to “do something.” So, it was off to High Falls (the most amazing place in Georgia to be so little known) and roaming about the central piedmont. On the way south from there on U. S. 23 we got behind some kind of traffic jam that caused us to take 40 minutes to go 10 miles. It turned out it was an escorted bicycle group.
So, arriving at Macon Bonefish Grill just after 2, the game was on the big screen over the bar. 0 to 0. Bottom of 5, as I remember.
Hey, Hey for Grant Holmes. 6 innings, 6 K’s, 2 BB’s, 3 H’s, 0 R. WHIP under 1. But, when your offense produces 2 H’s (no extra bases) and 1 BB, it is hard to turn that into runs.
The old saying says that close only counts with hand grenades. I long ago added that close is pretty effective with nuclear weapons. This whole series was close. The bullpen on this team can be post season dominant. The question is can the semi functioning and non-functioning offensive factors actually start functioning to what pre-season reasonable projections say they should. If so, we will be fine. If not, this won’t cut it.
We certainly “held our own.” I think the classic number is home field advantage tilts games about 5 percent, as in 50 / 50 becomes 55 home team / 45. We didn’t lose ground. But we missed a chance to end it.
Sometime late yesterday, the Braves got home and need to be ready to face Tampa Bay for 3. Go Braves.
Further to JoshKinNJ’s comment in the previous thread about the Philly fans not understanding that their hostility just Riles Ronald up, CJ was talking about the boos during one of the broadcasts this weekend (I think the NBC one) that “the guys love it.”
I don’t think I’d ever heard that before. The usual line is for a player to say boos don’t bother him, but if fans knew the players were laughing about it and relishing it, they might stop doing it!
You’d think Philly would’ve taken notice of how unglued Mets fans became about Chipper Jones.

We’re going to the game tonight, including the post-game concert by the Avett Brothers. Pretty pumped about both. I’ll get a recap done, but don’t look for it tonight; I’ll post as soon as I can in the morning.
Have any of y’all gone to a post-game concert at Truist? I purchased the pass to go onto the field after the game. But if I can see pretty well from our seats I’d just as soon stay there for the concert. We’re in the dugout level, just one section down the right field line from the Braves’ dugout. Where is the stage likely to be set up? Thanks!
That sounds excellent, enjoy! I was at a Steve Aoki post game concert by accident. There were plenty people coming just for the concert on the field. I was sitting in the stands to watch. It was fun but a small crowd stayed around. I am sure it will be different for Avett Brothers. Should be fun. Enjoy. Oh, and Luke Jackson was the only player I noticed watching the concert back the ln.
Thanks, Timo. This is a concert I’ve been looking forward to. I’ve never seen the Avett Brothers live, but I’m a big fan of their music. My kids say they put on a great show.

Bryce Elder had to get a procedure done on his knee. He’s out 3-4 weeks, so it’s hard to imagine him pitching again this season.
Would think the obvious roster move is activating Reylo to replace him.
Hmm…so the Braves have scored 18 more runs than the Rays in 1 more game despite the Rays having a BA .013 higher, an OBP .018 higher, and a SP only .008 lower. Also the top four Rays starters tonight have higher OBPs than any Braves starter, which seems like efficient lineup construction. Lots of timely hitting by the Braves?
AJSS hasn’t exactly impressed since coming back.
“Hope” was not a strategy for this rotation in the final two months of the season, AA. No Strider, no Schwelly, Smith-Shawver clearly not ready.
Of course hope is a component of strategy. It’s a component of every team’s strategy. Smith-Shawver was always at best going to be a bullpen playoff piece. Sale, Mahle, Perez and Holmes are as many starting pitchers as one can use in the playoffs, and that still leaves Reylo and Elder as possibilities… or should I say rays of hope.
As Roger would say, scoring 1 run over the last 14 innings isn’t good enough.
Ozzie should be banned from swinging at first pitches for a while.

Yeah, exactly. I am so sick of hearing about the pitching when we score 1 run in the 1st. Talk to me about pitching when we are losing 9-8. Until we are back to scoring an AVERAGE of 5 runs per game then there is nothing more to talk about. If you score 2 or less, it doesn’t matter if they score 7 or 70, it’s still a loss.
