The last Braves lineup I saw that was that bad had Terry Blocker in it. Roughly speaking, there are two major league-quality starters in that lineup, and that’s being generous to Johnny Estrada. There’s LaRoche, who might be good eventually but evidently isn’t ready. There are a few guys who might be decent end of the bench players. And there’s Jesse Garcia.
That is one of the ugliest lineups I’ve seen in a long time. Hell, they couldn’t propel Richmond to a pennant last year, could they?
The injuries to pretty much every decent hitter we had entering the year are just mind-boggling.
And we still haven’t really seen Eli Marrero. I guess he’s had 2 hits for the braves so far. He was supposed to be the “ultra-utility-man”, who could fill in for anyone in case of injury. Jeez, could really use him now!
On the brighter side, with “Mr. Unbeatable” Clemens taking care of history last night, we wont see him this weekend.
Hessman, DeRosa, Garcia, LaRoche. If you had told me that at any time this would be our starting infield I would have eaten my Braves hat with no salt. I sure hope that someone gets well soon cause I can watch AAA baseball in person.
I can’t remember Terry Blocker Mac. Care to fill me in?
Terry Blocker career stats
I think he was a Rule 5 pick from the Mets. Career line of .205/.242/.266, most of that in ’88. Also pitched in one game, walked two but didn’t give up a run. I was actually at that game. Ramon Martinez, who had just been called up from the minors, pitched a complete game shutout for the Dodgers, struck out nine.
I see the Braves traded Kevin Brown to the Mets to complete the Terry Blocker acquisition. Thank God it wasn’t THAT Kevin Brown (but instead a lefty who was then dumped onto the Brewers).
Blocker should have stuck to pitching.
Kevin Dewayne Brown, see photo on link below.

Well, given how Eli’s been hitting, it likely makes no difference.
