The gang got back together last night and they decided they could hit a little. Hopefully this is the gunshot that starts the avalanche. Tonight, Charlie Morton will take on Javier Assad. Morton comes into the game with a 3-0 record and a 3.14 ERA. Assad also has a 3-0 record, but the ERA is 1.70. However, there’s nothing glamorous about his numbers and hopefully the Hammers can continue to pound the baseball.
Braves Lineup
I can’t believe Snitker benched Austin Riley for Ray Short.

He was no hitting demon with the Angels, but he’s really raysed his game since meeting Kevin Seitzer. I’m ready to think outside the box – in brief, I’m long on Short.
This broadcast is going to get real annoying if this game gets as out of hand as the first seven pitches reveal it might.
It’s Bad Charlie tonight. This is gonna be a long one.
Orlando’s play on that Morel groundout – that was incredible. I thought that was a sure single.
In honor of Skip, I’m giving myself permission to walk the dog in exchange for patronizing the sponsors. Charlie is cooked.
Off day for Acuña. Interesting.
Sorry for even mentioning the series shutout on the last thread. I didn’t think it would actually happen, but I thought it might last a little longer than 1 pitch!
That was a sh*t show in both halves of the inning. It’s true Arcia made a great play on the grounder but if catches the throw from right field it’s probably 1-0.
Charlie isn’t getting a lot of swings and misses. Not a lot of hard hit balls but not many whiffs either
Charlie’s command has been a little off, but in fairness the Cubs haven’t hit any very hard since the leadoff homer. They have also fouled off a lot of pretty good pitches. Twelve foul balls already in the top of second.
Okay, I’m really enjoying DeRosa on the broadcast. This is probably about as good as it gets watching the team down 4-0.
Okay, I’ll recap this one at some point, but it might be the morning, and it will probably be one of Mac’s “man, I hate off days” jokes.
It looks like Charlie would have benefitted from the extra day of rest he usually gets. When they have a stretch of games with no off day they may have to consider using a 6 man rotation by calling up Vines or Winans.
Also, I miss the days when our guys could hit. I figured that there was no way they could match what they did last season with several guys having career years, but I also didn’t think much of our lineup would struggle to have higher than a .700 OPS.
I think Acuña’s knee is hurting him more than he is letting on. I think a 10 day IL stint to let it heal and get him hitting like he is supposed to would be a good thing. Looks like Snitker is thinking something similar by giving him the day off yesterday with the off day today.
I was super bummed out when we gave up Soroka, but unfortunately it is looking like we did the right thing. He’s started 9 games, and has a -.3 WAR with a 1.511 WHIP. His ERA is 6.39 and he’s 0 and 5 over 43.2 innings with 10 homeruns, 24ks and 24 walks. He has only completed 6 innings one time and the White Sox have lost 8 of the 9 games he’s started. Wow, that is brutal.
Recapped. Woof.
