The Braves have won their last 4 and try to make it 5 tonight against the New York Mets. Bryce Elder (5.18 ERA) faces off against Luis Severino (2.93 ERA) tonight at 6:10 CT/7:10 ET.
Braves Lineup
Tonight will mark Bryce Elder’s 44th start in the bigs and 45th game played in. In 244 innings with the Braves, he’s carried a 3.76 ERA, but a 4.40 FIP, which probably tells the story a little bit better. Elder, surprisingly, has only had 2 starts against the Mets and a 5.27 ERA in 13.2 IP.
Happy Mothers Day to All the Females of Braves Journal! Let’s hear from you tonight!

Riley left the game after hurting himself on a swing. Braves are calling it “left side tightness” but I fear it may be an oblique.
Not sure what the point of picking up Zach Short was. He is below replacement level for his career and it’s doubtful that he’s better than Fletcher. Though if Riley has to go to the IL, Fletcher will probably come back up anyway.
My prediction that Short would not get into a game for 3 months didn’t last too long.
I know it’s only the Mets, but we’re getting the good Bryce Elder tonight. The sinker has been consistently down in the zone and generating lots of ground balls.
I shouldn’t have written this—Elder
Immediately started to elevate, and Lindor and Alonso made him pay. Third time through the order not kind to him; perhaps Snit should be more proactive in going to the pen. Be happy with five good innings from Elder and dont push your luck.
Still , a very solid performance by Bryce.
Not sure if the ESPN crew has even mentioned that Riley left the game even though his replacement is hitting now.
This Bryce Elder can be a successful major league pitcher.
Edit to echo Tfloyd above – proper management may always be key with Elder. But spotting that sinker like that… /approving head nod gif
Can’t win playing idiot baseball.
How do you get picked off first base twice? By the same pitcher? Come on man.
Ronald is a very talented player, but I’m not sure he’s the smartest.
We are certainly being hit by the injury bug early this season. At least we should be Murphy and Johnson back soon.
Hold onto this lead boys. I’m guessing it will be Minter in the 9th today.
Minter in the ninth.
And people wonder why there are complaints in the Braves social-media-sphere about Snitker. This is why. Minter has proven time and again that he’s terrible in this sort of spot. But send him out there again! I think it’s fair to prefer anyone else in the bullpen but him in this specific spot.
You’d like to see a Jackson Stephens appearance here?
Hyperbole aside, I’d prefer Joe Jimenez, but I think they all need a rest. I actually much prefer Snit’s bullpen management to Bobby’s, who would’ve asked Iglesias to pitch again.
I guess you were right… Minter god damn it
And proven yet once again. Doesn’t help when your “best player” gets picked off first…twice.
Oh, for the love of Pete.
Thanks, Snit.
You’re the only one who doesn’t realize that Minter should never, EVER pitch the ninth. Use him in the eighth and Lee in the ninth.
Ha! Minter screwed the pooch again…sonofa…
Can this be the last time we see him in the 9th, please!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Minter is no closer.
But the truth is that the Braves were playing with fire all night long. I never thought we would win this game.
Sure, Minter blew it, but when you have good starting pitching and a bad offense, you’re gonna play a lot of close games. And lose some of them. (Doesn’t mean I’m any less pissed right now, but it’s true nonetheless.) Any time the rest of the team wants to join Ozuna in playing offense is fine with me.
