When Luis Guillorme was signed, my question was a simple one: Why? Sure, he had tortured the Braves several times in regular season games when he was a Met, but outside of that, he was below average in every single offensive and defensive category, unless you count foul balls hit against the Atlanta Braves. Now…if Guillorme had had 1 single MiLB option, I would have been ok. He didn’t. Considering David Fletcher was going to get paid no matter what and that his salary would count toward the CBT no matter what, the Guillorme signing really didn’t make sense. Now, apparently Alex Anthopoulos agrees…
Not only this, but a good Braves source had some not so great parting words for Guillorme…
That also leads to the next transaction as the Braves picked up Zack Short from the Red Sox. This will be Short’s 3rd MLB team to play for in 2024 Over the course of his MLB career, Short has played both infield and outfield and, in all likelihood, will be an emergency backup to a plethora of positions. He’s out of options so he’ll be Guillorme’s direct replacement…and hopefully, they like him.

I was Guillorme’s most enthusiastic defender, so I think it’s only appropriate for me to eat crow. I just realized that Matt Olson, Austin Riley, and Ronald Acuña Jr. were All-Stars before he got here and put a hex on their bats. Hope it’s a happier clubhouse now!
Kind of reminds me when George Lombard was out of options and the Braves didn’t have a spot for him so they traded him to Detroit, who they were playing a series with so he just switched dugouts.
Short is a little better defensively than Gullorme. Maybe the ptbnl or cash will be Mike Trout after he recovers from his knee injury. He’s not what he used to be but I would still take him in a pinch if the Angels eat some of his salary,
I kind of thought it was a clubhouse issue, as well. It’s a little early for trades unless you’re just trying to get somebody out of the there.
Another thing worthy of note is that the Braves acquired yet another PTBNL. If you recall, the Braves acquired 2 this past offseason. One was rumored to be settled via cash, though nothing was ever confirmed. When a team acquires a PTBNL via a trade, they have 6 months to collect on the trade, or they settle for $100K in cash.
If they didn’t settle for cash…
The Marco Gonzales trade went down on December 5th, making the deadline June 5th.
The Max Stassi trade went down on December 11th, making the deadline June 11th.
