In a “so 2000” move: “FIRST”.
OMG, cliff! I totally forgot that early Braves Journal trend. That and “JC’d” were staples in every thread.
I am skeptical because his skill set could easily evaporate in MLB. If he can’t hit for power, pitchers will simply challenge him in the zone. Now the walks go away and if he isnt making hard contact, he will be making lots of outs. If he could definitely play SS it might be fine, but that doesn’t seem likely (players don’t usually grow into a SS. If they aren’t already one they probably won’t be one)
That slg% has to get much much better for him to rally be a great prospect, IMO.
The good thing about Nacho is he’s still young. Looking at it from a roster and payroll standpoint, Arcia is the least valuable core player but he is exceptionally cheap through 2026. He is also the earliest core player to likely reach free agency and will not be so cheap in 2027. He will also be 32 by then and have declining skills. Some combination of Alvarez, Benitez, Perdomo should be able to replace him by 2027. The fact that Alvarez looks good now and Perdomo may be the future should leave the Braves in great position (both Acuna and Albies will continue to be cheap for a while as will Kelenic and Harris). Everyone else but Arcia is locked up until at least 2029.
This has “great planning” written all over it…… Another AA success story. Arcia was acquired two years before Dansby left and gave the Braves flexibility to allow Dansby to go. The same may be true of Alvarez and Arcia and then Perdomo and Alvarez.
“Lacks the range of Orlando Arcia” doesn’t sound like a future shortstop. Considering range is probably Arcia’s weakness.
Arcia is in the 99th percentile in range thus far this season.
Did anyone catch that the Mets DFA’ed Julio after the game? Right after they signed him for 2.5 million? Mets gonna Met.
Edit: per MLBTR his contract wasn’t guaranteed and he only gets paid for his time on the roster.
Our old friend, Angel Hernandez, is at it again. The 2nd video, showing 3 bad calls in a row is stunning
Does anyone remember when I thought Arcia was bad? That’s looking like it might be up there with “the Falcons shouldn’t draft Matt Ryan” (which was an opinion I had leading up to that draft) on my list of all-time worst-aging sports takes. The Ryan take is still the worst, but…certainly top five for the Arcia take.
Well, at least you never thought Mallex Smith was gonna be an All-Star like I did.
I thought Matt Wisler was going to be a solid starting pitcher.
Wanted Glenn Dorsey over Matt Ryan.
Supported the decision to draft Marvin Williams over Chris Paul.
