I love Jeff Francoeur, the broadcaster. He’s so much fun.

I wonder whether the new slider placed new strain on the elbow. It sure is hard to feel good about the news.
ON THE OTHER HAND, we are now entering day two of Cardinals tsuris about Tyler O’Neill getting called out for not hustling and being super passive aggressive about it! Happy families are all the same; unhappy families are all unhappy in their own way. I have such delightful schadenfreude about this whole thing.
What is it with the Cardinals and their need to hire blowhard managers?

I think Marmol didn’t need to keep calling the guy out publicly, but O’Neill is coming off like a petulant idiot. He got thrown out by roughly a mile. You’ve got to wear it, kid.

He kind of does but at least he doesn’t throw the 3rd base coach under the bus.

I didn’t expect to encounter schadenfreude on a baseball blog, but am delighted to see it here. I will add in that I have freudenfreude for our boy, Ian, and hope its just the elbow and not his head that is in the way at this point.

Ozuna swung at a bad 2-0 breaking pitch out of the zone the other day. Gaudin asked Francoeur if he ever did that (we all know the answer to that), and he said “Yeah but I was an idiot.”
Francoeur was the Braves Journal whipping boy here as a player, but I can’t hate the man anymore.

on April 6, 2023 at 2:30 pm
Ryan, normally this time of year you write an informative piece on where the A & AA prospects are assigned and lets us know what we can expect to see in Augusta, Rome and Mississippi.
Last night the GreenJackets put on a public unveiling and batting practice. I noticed Owen Murphy and J. R. Ritchie we’re there along with another 1 or 2 of our top 10 Braves prospects. , so those 2 hurlers plus another pitcher, an outfielder, 3rd baseman and a stud shortstop who I think is our #7 prospect. He showed amazing defensive ability and seemed to handle the bat well also.
Tommy! Good to hear from you. We will be getting some things up on the rest of the MILB affiliates this week!
Tommy Cole

Thanks Ryan! It’s good to be back. The SS I referenced earlier is Tavarez and the 3B is McCabe. The 3rd pitcher I referenced is Schwellenbach. He started the opener tonight.
Greenjackets wins 9-8 in extras behind 13 hits (on the road).
Today’s Mets home opener was postponed last night due to a wet weather forecast.
Of course, it’s 75-degrees & dry today here in Queens — it probably won’t start raining for another 4-5 hours. Pretty sure they could’ve gotten the game in just fine.
Maybe this just ain’t the Mets’ year…

For the record, Cade, I will be trying to sync the radio broadcast with Ben, Joe and JChad to the ESPN viewing of the Sunday night game. I cannot stomach listening to A-Rod and don’t want to give up everything I’ve been consuming while hanging out here in the bar. 😉

The thing about the Cardinals is… no matter how bad it looks for them, they’ll trade O’Neill for two non-prospects who blossom into All-Stars, then they’ll draft some guy in the seventeenth round who’ll turn into a generational player, then Arenado will play like an MVP until he’s 42. And then they’ll win four pennants in a decade or something. They’re the devil’s favorite team.
Really sounds like a guy who just up and quit on his team after he got his big extension /s

Austin Riley is a pretty remarkable player. He had a bunch of strengths and a bunch of weaknesses and he worked his tail off and got better at a lot of his weaknesses to the point that he’s one of the best players in baseball. I feel pretty confident that he actually has the humility his Southern aw-shucks persona exudes. (Dansby, too.) I think he slumped because he’s a pretty streaky player who was a sleepless new dad, I think he hated it, and I think he’s still an All-Star who’s one of the best players in the league.
Bitching about one of your best players is the kind of thing that insecure fanbases like the Mets do. It’s unbecoming of this bar.
Bitching about Kirby Yates, on the other hand, is meet.

Give him time. My problem is more with Snit’s usage of him so far
Tfloyd, thank you for the game two recap, and the wonderful personal story about Mr. Aaron.
I know I’m gonna die alone on this hill, but Mario Mendoza batted around .215 and isn’t a fan of the term. But you know who batted EXACTLY.200 in his career?
Braves depth is being tested but the core is so deep that it’s hard to be bothered. It looks like we’ll get to see what Sean Murphy can do with regular playing time.
Holy smokes. If you’re on Twitter and haven’t looked at Evan Gattis’s feed lately, you’ve GOT to make that happen. He’s dropping all the dirt, even on himself.

I don’t buy the theory AA is manipulating Grissom’s service time. It didn’t stop him from calling him up last season, and I don’t think we really do that anymore. We just extend them.
I’m a big fan of Grissom, but Arcia is the shortstop and so far AA looks good.
I really hope he is called up by June. Really good piece Cade.
Yeah, good work, Cade. I am hope to see Soroka soon.
Thanks Cade. Fingers crossed.
I saw Soroka interviewed one time, and I would guess there is no one pulling for him to succeed more that Jeff Francouer.
