Due to some of Chicago’s least clement weather, our boys’ rubber match against the Pale Hose was postponed to late June; I cannot in conscience argue with YaramahZ, who generously but rightly said, “I always give the offence a pass in these conditions. It can’t be fun trying to react to a fastball in temperatures just above freezing (3C right now).”
I just hated losing a game whose margin was decided by a pinch-hit homer by Paul DeJong. However, because I’m old, I got him confused with Paul Janish, and literally only realized my mistake when I looked up Paul DeJong’s numbers and was stunned to learn he has more than 100 career homers. He’s still not a great hitter, and these White Sox are a pretty bad team, but DeJong’s career ISO is .190 so it’s not as ignominious as I feared.
Bizarrely, though, there will now be two off days in a row: yesterday’s unscheduled one, and today’s scheduled one. If I were a millionaire with nothing to do in Chicago, I would have a beer. As I am a regular gentleman who is not in Chicago, I will have to take my kicks where I find them.
Baseball, come back again soon!

Alex,
I thought the previous white screen was your artistic interpretation of playing baseball in the snow.
Scheduling the Braves to start the season in the frozen tundra is ludicrous. Early April can be one of the nicest times of the year in the southern Piedmont. When was the last time that the Braves had a home game on opening day anyways?
Last opening day at home was in 2022, with the Reds visiting.
