- The Braves improve to 6-1 after Thursday nights walk off win against San Diego. As I write this on Friday morning, they have more wins than the Mets, Phillies and Nationals combined after a week of play in 2023. Atlanta currently has a +19 run differential. This is the 4th best in baseball.
- Orlando Arcia‘s walk off single on Thursday night was the 5th of his career. He carries a 1.080 OPS into Friday nights matchup.
- The Braves have scored 9 first inning runs through 7 games this season. This leads MLB. Atlanta is 6-0 when scoring first.
- The bullpen depth is looking a little thin with the absence of Raisel Iglesias and now Collin McHugh. McHugh was placed on the 15 day IL with right shoulder inflammation on Thursday afternoon and Jared Shuster was recalled to Atlanta. He is expected to make the Friday night start against the Padres.
- Kirby Yates now owns a 6.30 ERA and a 7.85 FIP since signing with the Braves. He’s recorded 8 K’s and 8 walks in 10 innings pitched. He looked shaky at best on Thursday night, giving up two eighth inning runs on a couple of walks, a wild pitch and an errant throw. The six million dollars owed to Yates should be in the pocket of Nick Anderson who has looked tremendous for Atlanta (2.45 ERA, 0.273 WHIP).
- Kyle Wright made a rehab start for Gwinnett on Wednesday. 6 IP, 5R, 7K, 1BB. He threw 84 pitches (53 strikes) and gave up a grand slam in the third inning. He is eligible to come off the 15 day IL on April 11th.
- Michael Harris II was removed from last nights game with back tightness. The tweak seems to have either happened on his successful stolen base attempt on Thursday or his leaping catch in Saint Louis on Wednesday. The club says this is precautionary. He is listed as day to day. *April 7th, 2023 (2:12 pm CDT) Michael Harris II was placed on the 10 day IL with a lower back strain. Eli White was recalled to Atlanta.
- Vaughn Grissom is slashing.400/.500/.760 (1.260) through his first six games in Triple-A. Tack on two triples and two stolen bases. He has yet to strike out (30 PA).
- Brian Snitker managed his 1,000th career game last night and what a game it was. Snit now has 547 wins. This is the 4th most for an active manager behind only Dave Roberts, Terry Francona and Kevin Cash.
- Max Fried is reported to have begun throwing this week and was seen jogging on the field before last nights game. Raisel Iglesias has yet to start a throwing program but is said to “feel good”.
- NL East weekend outlook: The Marlins have a weekend series against the Mets in New York, Cincinnati will head to Philly and the Nationals will be in Colorado through Sunday.
