The March of the Penguins continued Friday, as our Tuxedo’ed Terrors fell to Pittsburgh 5-4. It seems R.A. Dickey can’t throw his knuckler in the cold, so Mike Foltynewicz was moved up a day. Unfortunately, his command must have caught the same sniffles as the knuckler, as he gave up 6 hits and three walks in 3 and 2/3rds. Even with all the baserunners he only gave up 2 runs, but Ivan Nova, The Pittsburgh Snowman, managed to navigate the snow flurries and Monongehela River ice floes to hold Atlanta to a single unearned run through 6.
Josh Collmenter tried to warm up the Braves in the 5th, but pouring gas on the fire worked no better in PNC Park than it did at citifield, as David Freese and Francisco Cervelli homered. The Braves made it interesting in the 8th, tallying three runs, highlighted by a Brandon Phillips 2 run single, but Adonis Garcia‘s grounder up the middle was turned into a double play to extinguish the threat.
One hopes that the Braves won’t get overrun by the rapidly approaching glaciers that have marred the season opening road trip.
And Seat Painter throws down the gauntlet!
I certainly know better than to compete with Seat Painter. As Hap said, the season is young and Alex will sort out the confusion on recappers. I’m just pleased to know that Seat Painter will be recapping again.
Former Brave Bronson Arroyo is starting today for the Redlegs of Cincinnati. His first action in three years. It’ll be weird seeing him in that uniform.
Sorry to jump all over your recap tfloyd. I didn’t even check the site before I posted. If you’d like to split the recaps up, I can certainly use the breaks. Recovery from my radiation treatments is going slower than I hoped. But, so far it seems to have worked as well as the recovery has gone poorly.
Hang in there, SP. Mind your doctors, and get better soon.
Two recaps a game is fine with me, especially if both are as good as today’s.
Seat Painter, as a long time lurker and semi-frequent poster in the past, may I say that was a Mac-esque recap. Thank you, and good luck with the treatments.
Early prediction: Folty’s next start will be 5 2/3, 3 ER, 8 K’s in a loss, and the news will be raving about his stuff and new-found maturity. In my book, he’s two starts away from joining Wisler and Blair in the ‘Oh, Well’ column.
Hope you are getting better, Seat Painter.
Painter! Quelle Surprise!
Alex has my email – wanna swap radiation stories/consequences?
Great to see you back on.
@1
the Metaphor King, first and best. Perfect.
Best wishes in the extended recovery, Seat Painter. Many family members have endured the “c” word, and my hat’s off to you.
R.A. Dickey gets his first start in a Braves uni. When’s the last time the Braves had a knuckleballer on the team? Mark Lemke?
It’s Dickey Time!
Freeman is having a bad inning.
PHILLIES up 12-0 on the Gnats after 1 inning.
Really nice smack to deep right by Jace.
Brandon Phillips isn’t good anymore
Adonis Garcia never was good.
Suzuki is Uekering these knuckleballs, too. And a lot of close pitches that he can’t frame because he can barely catch them.
Defense has been rough today. Really should be charged with 4 errors so far. I’d say Dickey only deserves to get charged with 1 of these runs.
18 — Apparently only 1 of the runs is earned.
I wish they could track the pitcher’s pace. Dickey works quickly, and it’s refreshing. Accordingly, even the commercial breaks are quick.
Nice bunt hit by Jace.
While we’re waiting for the braves to go down in the 9th:
AAA: Ozzie Albies went 2 for 5 with a triple. Not a good start from Wisler.
AA: Kolby Allard had a decent game tonight. 5 IP, 6 H, 0 BB, 5 K, 2 R, 1 HR.
A+: Alex Jackson went 2 for 4 with a double. Drew Harrington, 6 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 0 R.
A: Lotta Rome players had multiple hits. Anfernee Seymour went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. Derian Cruz committed two errors at short.
Nice start Bravos!!!!
A musical recap to cheer us all up. Even if it’s about the Pirates.
