And just like that, back to the new normal. Folty pitched a little better than his line, but not much and against a good starter that’s just not gonna cut it with this lineup. The game was sort of in doubt until the fifth when the D’backs opened with three straight junk hits and cashed them all to go up 6. The Braves were 3hit by Corbin but loaded the based in the 7th with Terdoslavich unable to get on and ending the frame. The home team managed a 4 run rally in the eighth capped by a Swisher HR and brought the tying run to the plate but the taste of half price hot wings turned to ash in my mouth when Lavarnway struck out. The pen had been great since Folty left in the fifth, but Aardsma gave two right back after a walk, a hit batsman, a double steal and a Goldschmidt single. Nothing doing for the Braves in the ninth, but still a chance to win the series today. At this point, you take any positive you can find.

Moylan being called up. Great day for him.
That’s really great to hear. Both @1 and @2.
@1: I’m sure there have been and are currently many more. I remember some of Lemke’s friends at a game telling me he was, but saying that he was fiercely private and would never say anything about it.
Oh no doubt about it. Obviously Beane and Burke, and I seriously doubt that was it. The point is this time it’s public and during the player’s career.
Briefly watching the start of the Mets game. I really like the Mets commentators. Keith Hernandez is a pleasure to listen to IMO.
Shelby’s been drinking from Mel Famy’s cooler.
AJP is doing a horrible job framing the pitches today.
Some catch – I’m here in person today
ALL THE MONEY!
I don’t know if anybody knows, but when’s the last time Shelby had a lead?
Are we certain he’s had a lead before?
Maybe spike can give him a lead, since he’s there today?
Has Peterson ever really stolen a base?
I looked it up. Shelby actually had a brief lead Aug. 4 against the Giants. He pitched seven innings but in the bottom of the seventh, the Braves gave him a 3-2 lead on his way out of the game. The bullpen promptly gave up four runs in the eighth and six over the last two innings. We lost 8-3.
Well that sucked, although Bourne would have never been on base with a bit more effort from Peralta
If I didn’t know any better, I’d say AJ was upset with that.
So excited Moylan is back. He’s so much fun to root for.
IT’S HAPPENING!!!!!!
Ha! Boy, he sure knocked the hell out of that one!
UPDATE: Yeesh, what a monstrously awful AB by Maybin!
Shelby, if you wanna win this one you’ll need a shutout.
Woah, Justin Upton threw his helmet and knocked a teammate out of the game? I feel like his demeanor never once changed in the two years he was a Brave, so it’s hard to imagine him doing that. That’s crazy.
No chance Miller goes 9, right?
Well, he’s definitely pitching the next inning. Frankly, it’s a joke if they take him out without him allowing a hit. Ten pitches one way or the other do not make a difference. Have him skip his next start if you’re that worried about it.
Sure, if you’re throwing 10 pitch innings.
Twenty pitches one way or the other don’t make a difference, either.
Are you guys seeing the scoreboard? He’ll yes he goes nine if he can keep it here through 8.
@22 It’s sounds worse than it was. Looks like he didn’t mean to throw it.
@24 Absolutely, he’s a big kid, all stretched-out. Unless it gets ridiculous, give him a shot. That said, if I was Fredi in the hot seat, I’d want to give the GM a ring.
That’s hell not he’ll
Here’s to a quick top of the 8th.
Exactly. Have him throw 140 if he needs it. He can throw less warmup pitches and we can skip his next start if needed
Yeah, again…since we’re where we are, if you’re all overly paranoid about it, just have him skip his next start. I’m sure if you asked him to choose pitching the ninth inning of this game if it meant skipping a start late in this season, he’d say yes.
@28
Yeah, I can attest. As someone who’s aimed for the couch and wound up smashing the remote on the wall accidentally instead more than once, I can tell you that you have bad aim when you’re mad.
EDIT: That sucks! What a crappy hit!
Nnngggg… the Texan gives up a Texas Leaguer.
Well, shucks.
Shit
It doesn’t matter anymore.
Great game, Shelby. Can we saddle you with the loss?
And Shelby’s winless streak will continue.
Moylan still has the best walk up music in baseball
I fully expect that in September Shelby Miller will have a game where he doesn’t allow a hit but loses 1-0 in the 10th inning on a two-out error. We will leave 20 men on base in this game.
Moylan is our 33rd pitcher this season, and we still have Sept call-ups. Anyone know the team and major league record for pitchers used in a season?
Simply put, Shelby doesn’t know how to win…
Yay! Now we get the benefit of the fact that this ump’s strike zone ends at the thigh!
Alright, let’s win this damn thing already.
For the Aardvark!
OT, Seth Webster stays dominant (against younger competition), 7ip 0er 0bb 8k. Fangraphs has there his FIP going in at 2.44. Should drop at least .1 (though I had it at 2.27 going in). ERA sitting at 2.54.
Too old for his level, but it’s hard to ignore a guy who strikes out 15x as many as he walks.
Cameron Maybin! Woo-hoo!
On cue, Cameron.
Thank you, sir…
Maybin!!! And a series win!!!
Doggone, Shelby Miller can pitch.
Alex, please check your e-mail.
Recapped.
