Last night, the Braves scored three runs in ten innings — and, sadly, that equalled their run total over their previous 18 innings. This team looks about as comfortable at the plate as William Bendix in The Babe Ruth Story. But a win’s a win. Maybe tomorrow we can score three runs in nine innings, or even two runs in a five-inning rainout.
Did you know that, from April 11 to April 14, the Braves scored a total of 32 runs over four games, with at least six runs in each game? It’s true! That’s equal to the number of runs that we’ve scored over our last 14 games, from April 23 to May 9. Not surprisingly, we won all four of those high-scoring games. We’re 6-8 over the last 14.
In the game thread, Ububba pointed out that we’re 1-0 with punk songs in the game threads. So here is one of the greatest rock and roll songs ever.
Walden to the DL (left hamstring). Thomas recalled
It only took the Braves a tenth inning to get that third run too.
Just squeeze out some wins & keep afloat until we figure out how to score.
Only scoring three runs in 10 innings against the Cubs is offensive, just not quite in the same way.
1. Heyward RF 2. JUpton LF 3. Freeman 1B 4. Gattis C 5. Johnson 3B 6. BUpton CF 7. Simmons SS 8. Santana P 9. Pastornicky 2B
I’ll set the over/under on Upton strikeouts tonight at 6.
Jim Powell: “BJ never moved [to back up Justin] in centerfield.”
Should be getting back to baseball in a couple minutes. Samardzija looks like he’s coming back out.
Just about to get started again.
LOL…Joe intimating that he gets drunk during rain delays.
Your typical inkstain rundown, that’s 9-6-3-4-6-3-6-7 if you’re scoring at home or even if you’re by yourself.
Nice work, Erv. Hope Justin’s OK…
Checking in…zero runs after four innings. Typical Atlanta.
Boy it’s amazing how many sub-2 ERAs there are right now.
Make them pay Freddie
Poor JUp tonight. He’s taken a beating.
We have two hitters worth a damn. Thanks for unintentionally attempting to kill one of them, Cubs.
Time for Gattis to be useful
Crap
Dammit, missed being useful by that much.
I hate Chip.
Well, the Cramps seem to be working for our pitching. I’m not sure even the Ramones could fix our offense.
I think Caray secretly wishes he was still an announcer for the Chicago Cubs. He fawns over them year after year, every time the Braves play them.
Let’s do some Le Tigre
Cubbiness might yet save us from ourselves.
the $15 millon sac bunt!
How about a deep fly ball?
Gotta score on that hit Chris.
DOUMIT!
Doh!
Doumit!
Hey that works!
There we go!
The Cubs are sporting some righteous mullets.
Stockholm Syndrome Is Thinking That Three Runs Is An Offensive Outburst Game Thread
Good grief, the Braves just scored one run and have runners on second and third with one out, and I caught myself being amazed at the offense.
The Rev with the squeeze.
Yay! Somebody on our team can bunt!
I guess we just weren’t bunting enough.
Perfect time to call it by Fredi
38- Which guarantees ten more non-perfectly timed bunt attempts. Oh well.
Bunt, boys, bunt. TWO RUNS IN ONE INNING!
I think it’s just that Pastornicky is the only person on our team who can bunt worth a crap. That actually wasn’t an easy pitch to bunt. Anybody else on our team would have fouled it off at best.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to put Pena at 3rd and leave Pastor at 2nd?
Raise high the roof beam, Carpenter.
For a waiver claim, Carpenter just keeps looking quite lethal most of the time.
The Braves are close to having won three of their past four.
Holy crap…what a play!
Such a luxury having Andrelton and Freddie there.
IWOTC
This team will be dangerous if it ever figures out how to score.
Ah…the Cubs. Good to have them come into town at the right time.
Nats blow the lead in the 9th. Delicious.
And Oakland has scored 2 off Soriano in the ninth to tie the game! No outs and a man on first. I’m praying to Connie Mack for a couple more hits.
So, Upton leaves and Schafer enters and all of sudden scoring actually seems possible without waiting on a home run.

Yesterday, I mentioned Vandy’s freshman infielder Dansby Swanson. His line today against UF?
2-4, 4 rbi, BB, 3-run homer in 1st inning.
Get ‘er done, Wren.
So tonight was the Cubs franchise’s 9,999th loss. The Braves have one chance tomorrow to be the team to give them the big #10,000.
@53 – Swanson is a sophomore, FYI. He was hurt last year and was unable to play much. You’re right though, heck of a player and super-athletic. Can flash the leather, too.
Some help from Oakland & San Diego tonight — danke!
Marlins not at home, suddenly not scoring much again.
Greetings from Mallorca.
I am responsible for the wins lately as I have been away from my wife for four days. You’re welcome. Unfortunately flying back home tonight.
Recapped.
