    Scout worried about Tommy Hanson

One scout is worried that Atlanta Braves SP Tommy Hanson (shoulder) may have more a more serious injury after seeing him in his last start. “His fastball had absolutely no life. And his arm angle was way down. His elbow was down there next to his ear. He looked like Johan (Santana) looked last year right before the Mets shut him down. And that’s not good,” the scout said.

48 – I see the argument for Belt–he already has monstrous power and a great approach at the plate. Then again, I think Law undersells Freeman’s future power. Plus, Freeman’s skillset may be a bit under-appreciated by prospect prognosticators (in large part because it’s so unusual).

  62. Brian J.

As much as it hurts to type, Fredi has done a good job of running the bullpen, in that he seems to have identified how much work O’Ventbrel can take without their arms falling off, and now he’s got a lineup that suits his proclivities better than at the start of the season while being better than it was; I hope he and Wren worked together to produce that outcome.

And yes, Chip gave us a “George” joke, and Randall Delgado Mighty.

I guess it’s not necessarily a bad call to pull delgado, but I don’t buy the alleged link between number of times through the order and degrading pitcher performance. Separating pitch count (as a proxy for tiredness) and number of times through order seems problematic, and Delgado’s pitch count was atypically low for that point in the game. Let the kid pitch.

Edit: Have to give Fredi the benefit of the doubt though, since he very well could’ve seen something specific that made him think Delgado was wearing out.

Quick Google search finds people saying “8+” for Bochy and Mench, but no consistency on the exact sizes.

  182. HawkeyeFan
HawkeyeFan on August 16, 2011 at 8:54 pm

We’ve already given up four outs in the game (Bourn CS, Bourn in a rundown, McCann pick-off, Freeman thrown out at 2nd). Lump that in with Fredi’s mis-managing, I don’t see how we win this one. Unless Lugo is thrown out at home plate but is actually safe, of course.

  183. braves14

  218. Adam M

You know what was great about that game? Vizcaino pitched the 10th and 11th. Assuming that Linebrink or Sherrill would have pitched there had Proctor still been on the roster–a safe assumption–the Braves might well have lost.
