For what it’s worth, the Braves need to go .585 over the rest of the season to hit 91 wins. Red Sox need to go .583 for the same number, although they were aiming a little higher than 91 wins before the season began.
Not impossible by any means(as the Braves did it just last year), but early games are just as important as late games. Averaging 3 runs/game isn’t going to do it though, and when the manager is giving away one game a week it’s certainly not possible.
This looks like much more like a 70 win team than a 90 win one. The bench is one of the worst I’ve ever seen, we’ve got black holes in the line up and our bullpen is not good.
I may be willing to admit now that I may have been overly optimistic about Matt Young because he’s the only Braves player that I have ever been to a party where he was at. He unfortunately will be one of the guys that people like Keith Law talk about ‘getting the bat knocked out of their hands at the big league level.’ I hope he gets another chance at some point this year, but I’m not real confident that he will.
The holes that are starting to emerge (bench and potentially another bullpen arm, IMO) can be fixed, and can be fixed without giving up the farm.
Hanson was indeed the Good Hanson tonight. When he doesn’t slop around mechanically, he’s really good. Stayed on top of everything and didn’t get petulant when things didn’t go his way. (Fortunately, very few did.)
Time for Huddy to recapture his magic.

Folks, we’ve got us a first-baseman for the next decade. Great defensively and apparently a gift for timely hitting.

This team is going nowhere.

Chief comes through again. Day after a loss during a bad stretch and only one comment in the game thread? Chief’ll fix it!
Not a scoreless game, but Anibal Sanchez (3 BB, 8 K) has a no-no on his hands through 7.
Make that a no-no through 8.
broken up by a broken bat single.
Way to go, Jason!
This ump’s strike zone is hilariously tiny according to gameday.
“Trouble ahead, trouble behind.” That about sums us up right now.
Hanson’s hitting close to 94 on a few fastballs. Good news it is.
Wow, Tejada might suck at shortstop but he’d make a great short outfielder.
Hanson with the bunt!
There’s your lead, Tommy.
Chip: “Posey, McCann, Mauer..”
Category: Catchers whose name I know.
I see the Good Tommy Hanson is in the house.
Vogelsong is shutting us down. He’s pitched one inning and a third of major league ball since 2006. Surprised?
Mid-morning recap. I’m going to have to go to bed before this is over, probably.
I guess Nate is good for something. Funny.
Prado thought there were three outs after he caught a fly ball and started to jog in, and Nate had to tell him to throw it in with Burrell on first.
Freeman is our hottest hitter right now.
Wow Freeman is locked in right now. That was a fantastic at bat following a few games full of fantastic at bats.
That was extremely predictable. There was no way Chip wasn’t going to mention that Fontenot was a former Cub.
Braves win!
Solid win.
Time to turn it around.
Boy, it’s fun to win.
Oh great, Chipper’s hurt

Need to find some power, though.
We can never escape SF without something bad happens.
The way DOB words it is in true “mouth of the organization” mode.
“Chipper’s other knee is a little sore. Nothing that isn’t normal.
Oh, in other news, Chipper is going to see Dr. Andrews to play some golf. They are great friends!”
Next thing you know, Chipper out for the season.
While we are in a gloomy mode, does anybody know what Cory Rasmus’s injury is that resulted in him being placed on the DL?
Recapped. Going to stand as the game thread again.
