I always thought the two bands had a lot of similarities.
Anyway, while it no longer feels as vengefully meaningful when we beat these guys – I found I enjoyed rooting for them in the Fall Classic last year – it sure is nice to get a couple of three-run homers.
As I wrote in the previous thread: “The keys to the season so far, for me, have been: the resurgence of Ozzie and Mike; the continued dominant play of Drake, Matt, Dylan Lee, and Raisel Iglesias; the extraordinary additions of Dubon, Suarez, and Martin Perez; and the possible leveling-up of Bryce Elder, who truly could not have picked a better moment to grab the bull by the horns. It won’t always look this easy, but we’ve banked a good number of wins to help tide us through whatever summer swoon may come.”

Thanks, Alex. I like your comparison of the two bands. I’ve never been as into The Tragically Hip as I should be–perhaps I’ll do a rediscovery. I have been very into REM since they first formed. To follow up on a comment JonathanF made yesterday, I will remind everyone that 50% of REM grew up in Macon (the rhythm section, Mills and Berry). Of course Canada has produced many wonderful musical artists; it’s been fun to see the range and quality of the artists commenters brought to our attention (the range in quality does span the gamut from genius to something well short of genius). I daresay that Macon has produced per capita more musical geniuses and trendsetters than any place I know of. And, to be fair, some who are so far short of genius that it couldn’t be spotted with the Hubble telescope. I’m not naming names, but Jason Aldean did spend significant parts of his childhood in south Florida in addition to Macon.
Speaking of Macon & Athens… This just came out w/ quotes from that rhythm section:

Wow–that’s some fascinating stuff from some great people. I wasn’t a part of the scene as you were (not cool enough for that), but we were pretty close to Bertis Downs, so I met the guys in REM in the early days.
Oh, that’s just great. Thank you for linking!
The Athletic has a piece up in which they discuss which MLB teams are the most injury-prone, and the author speculates as to why certain organizations seem to lose more players to injury than others. The primary measurement was days lost to players on the IL. They had numbers for system-wide and they broke it down by big league club and minor leagues. I was confident that I’d see our Braves near the top of the lists, but they did not even make the top ten. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7330754/2026/06/04/baseball-injuries-organizations-mets-yankees-orioles/
The Yankees, Mets, and Orioles lead the way in players on the IL.
In fact, we had the fifth fewest, it says, though it looks like that’s organization-wide.
Sale on the hill tonight & it really looks like the extra rest between starts has made a difference.
Notice the extra days in between starts:
June 4… May 28… May 20… May 14… May 8… May 2… April 26… April 18… April 12… April 6… April 1… March 27
His last start was a week ago & the start before that was 8 days prior. Seems like whenever WW can, he gives him at least one extra day, sometimes 2… eg. – Holmes has started twice since Sale’s last start. Before that, it was Strider w/ 2 starts in between Sale starts.
Sure hope it makes a difference in October.
You’d think somebody whose batting average is a bingo number might be more willing to let a pitch hit him. Could’ve had bases loaded for Acuna there.
If we’re going to talk about Georgia bands, Marvelous 3 is my #1 fav. My own band (based in Toronto) released a cover of one of their tunes a couple years ago.
Bullpen continues to shine today. Would like some more runs.
Well, blah. Still won the series. Pirates and ChiSox next, who are both, surprisingly, 33-29. Keep winning series.
Riley is close to being below the Mendoza line.
