ESPN – Mets vs. Braves – Box Score – September 19, 2008
Well, that’s pretty standard. The Braves came back from 5-3 down to tie it, only to lose when they immediately gave up four runs. In their defense, they’re a bad team and you can’t expect them to win.
Jo-Jo had nothing, and was lifted in the fourth having given up five runs. The tag team of Carlyle and Julio kept the game in reach, and the Braves tied it up on an error in the seventh. But Tavarez got killed in the eighth, allowing four runs on five hits, and that was the ballgame.
Chipper was 0-3 before leaving with a sore shoulder. He is hitting .362 and has a nine-point lead in both BA and OBP.
Good idea, feign injury and sit on the avg.
I wish that the Braves would shut Jo Jo down for whats left of the season. He will just get pounded again. I would rather see Lerew pitch the last start to see how well he can perform. He wouldn’t be any worse….
Sitting out right now would definitely put the onus on Pujols to perform to win the batting title. Chipper is batting 0.362385 at 158 for 436. Pujols is batting 0.353293 at 177 for 501. In 9 more games for the Cards, Pujols would have to go 18 for 36 (at 4 abs per game) to barely overtake Chipper. 17 for 36 wouldn’t cut it and he would fall just short. The way Pujols is hitting right now, a .500 stretch is probably out of reach, who knows? Every game that Chipper goes 1 for 3 or worse keeps Pujols in the chase. He should have sat last night come to think of it.
Voluntarily sitting out to protect his lead in the batting race would besmirch the title and Chipper’s reputation, and deservedly so.
People have. Game thread is up.
