By the way, I want to answer Unknown, who has at several points implied that people on this board are turning against Brian McCann.
I, for one, absolutely fell in love with Brian last year, and Mac wrote a post after 2005 saying that he was the most important player in the organization. I love the guy, our pitchers seem to love the guy, our coaches seem to love the guy. He says the right things, and takes an organizational leadership role. I loved hearing how he was helping other guys with their hitting stroke during Spring Training. He’s a special kid, and I’m glad we locked him up for a long-term contract.
But right now he’s not hitting a lot, and neither is anyone else. We’re all understandably frustrated. It’s not fair to expect Brian to carry the team the entire way. But I wish the whole team would play better, Brian included. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

Guys, i’m not brad, he’s down in Jupiter playing ball.
Your right, Brian hasn’t been playing good lately and he has a few lingering effects from injuries. My point is that last year his ankle was twice as bad as it is now. His injuries are not affecting his swing. He got into some bad habits while his hand was injured and it takes a little time to get your swing back.
Saturday he went opposite way to drive in a run with solid contact. Yesterday he went 1-3 with a solid hit and ropped a shot down right field that was caught. He is starting to come around.
“I Cant Think of A Clever Name” i’m not connected with the Braves so wrong there, and he isn’t sucking now. He ain’t hitting .333 but damn look at other catchers around the league. They are hitting in the .230-.240’s. Now they suck. He may not be playing good at all right now but he doesn’t suck.

Unknown, we can just agree to disagree, we are all Braves fans and have the same goals and hopes for this team, and this is what this forum is for, for all of us morons to express our uneducated opinion….;)
I think it’s very reasonable to assume that Thorman will hit better next year than he’s hitting this year. But I don’t think that means he has to be an everyday player. Platoons have worked pretty well for Bobby in the past, and I see no reason not to work out a Thorman/Salty/Diaz/Harris arrangement in 1B/LF.
I am the only person who can see the IP addresses — well, I guess Sean could, if he so desired — and I am not going to make them public. Similarly, email addresses are not public. Nobody will be “outed” even if it were possible.
Oh, and Brian is third among NL catchers (regulars only) in OPS, behind Russ Martin and Bengie Molina. It’s not what we’ve gotten used to the last couple of years, largely because of his power outage (which does concern me) but he’s hardly the problem compared with Thorman and Andruw.
Russell Martin is having a heck of a year. Which means I don’t like him, as he is challenging McCann’s pre-eminence as the best young catcher in the NL.

Question for Ron Gardenhire–why do you DH your backup catcher but have one of your stars squatting behind the plate? Why not save the wear and tear (e.g., Andrew’s follow through) on Mauer? The only good answer I have is that he might ph for Redmond; if he hit for Redmond with him catching and Mauer as DH then Mauer would have to go behind the plate and the Twins would lose the DH.
Of course, I’m still trying to figure out why Cox didn’t DH McCann and his bum ankle on Tuesday and let Salty catch instead of DH.

Part of a home-field advantage is apparently cheating.
The old Frenchy is back…
The Braves are just befuddled by that changeup. Some truly ugly swings.
The Braves just need to make Santana throw a ton of pitches the next three innings, hope for a solo homer or two and that he can’t last past the seventh.
The old Frenchy has been back for a while. He hasn’t hit a lick since the end April.
pete just said that orr, thorman and morneau all come from thae same part of canada…the big part?
good play renty
I expected Andruw, Francoeur or someone in the lineup,at least, were struck out two times.
B_MAC!
MCCANN
woohoo
MCCANN!!!!!!
I think we should DL McCann…
Ny goodness, we are leading!!!
^.* to McCann
big ups
santana wears women’s underwear!
ha…take that
;0
i think that allows him more movement on his balls
Let me add to the chorus of being glad we didn’t DL McCann.
By the way, THIS looks like the Huddy from April. Please God let this hold up. Please.
take your pass chipper
dl andruw
ha.
diaz produces
What a great AB by Matty.
When Diaz is on – which is pretty often – there aren’t many pitchers in baseball that can get the best of him. Way to go Matt!
Of course, I’m still trying to figure out why Cox didn’t DH McCann and his bum ankle on Tuesday and let Salty catch instead of DH.
because Chipper is DHing. And there’s little question who needs to be protected more.
Kruger–Chipper is at DH tonight (and he should be there instead of 3B) but he was not in the lineup Tuesday. That game had McC at C, Salty at DH, and Thorman and Orr at the corner infield positions.
right you are, my bad.
btw, how has salty looked at 1st tonight?
I haven’t watched the entire game–missed both runs scoring–but what I’ve seen of Salty has been ok.
Pitches-strikes: Hudson 67-52 through 6IP. What a desirable thing! I think Hudson has a strong sense of rivalry. need more his competitor.. Go bulldog.
aaeeiii! Kelly! hang on to it if you can’t even see 1st base.
re Salty at 1B–nothing spectacular, but that was a nice play down the RF line
Salty is looking good at first.
I hope Huddy has this strong sense of rivalry the rest of the year…I am happy to see April Hudson again.
Man, listening to the braves on XM all season… it sure is funny to listen to opposing announcers attempt to pronounce salty’s name.
I missed seeing this Hudson….
Next seven games’ opponent starting pitchers: C.C. Sabathia, Paul Byrd, Fausto Carmona, Curt Schilling, Josh Beckett, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Justin Verlander.
Things are looking good!!!
Please Chipper, please don’t try to steal third again…
What’s wrong with Huddy?!
oh terrific. An injured Hudson is about the last thing the Braves need.
Great. Just what we needs.
For those of not watching, was it definitely an injury replacement?
Yeah, seems like some kind of neck or upper back muscle problem…doesn’t LOOK to be too serious…
I love Salty’s little bat flip from underneath of his arm. smoove
Leave Soriano in.
It’s not going to happen, but is anyone else hoping that Soriano stays in for the 9th to face the top of the order?
I really like what we have been seeing from Escobar…what really happened between Blauser and Escobar last season?!
A quick quiz on Andruw–what was his worst year prior to this one?
2001–he had an OPS of 770 or so; this year he’s at 740.
Besides performance, what did 2001 have in common with this year? It was Andruw’s last contract year. Maybe he’s a guy who presses too hard during his walk year and actually hurts his performance.
Dude, don’t give Boras any ideas.
Don’t know what went down between Blauser and Escobar, but didn’t Blauser get canned as a manager (in favor of Phil “Grenade” Wellman)?
Boras doesn’t need us to give him any crazy ideas. He has enough of his own.
Borass isn’t reading 🙂
You gotta be shitting me.
This game is over on natural grass.
you gotta be fucking kidding me. What happened to guarding the line?
Oh, no. Mac is on the mound.-_-;;; make allowance for me, please dear!!!!!!
Someone want to explain that play – single to Salty, but no run?
it hit off his chest, infield in, cuddyer pussed out and held up.
He slapped it down, and it rolled on the ground in front of him. Cuddyer ran back to avoid the play at home.
It should have been an error, klb. He knocked it down and couldn’t pick it back up in time. Wickman is probably too fat to be Morneau to the bag anyway.
Cuddyer didn’t want to get thrown out at home, so he didn’t force the issue when Salty kept the ball in front of him.
wickmania is giving me an ulcer.
Nothing is ever easy. Man, I hope we win this game.
……………
wickman almost died on that delivery. what the fuck.
unbelievable
S@#!
My first thought – http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=270425128
Why not just let Soriano start the inning? If he mows them down, the Braves win and Wickman doesn’t have to be used.
God DAMMIT. Wickman doesnt look right either.
CATCH THE FUCKING BALL HOLY SHIT.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wickman’s been fine… this predicament is largely a combination of turf and rookie defense.
…..
I want to puke
Nice work, Bob, you fat tub of shit.
We are cursed in that Damn dome.
The definition of sucks.
😐
3rd place. Can we skip June next year?
The house of whores?
That inning was poorly managed, poorly pitched, poorly defensed and poorly anything else anyone can add.
Pathetic.
Tghis is humiliating and disgusting and I am even more digusted with this team for blowing such a gutty performance by Hudson. I am just physically ill. Is this team ever going to get their sh– together and put together a winning streak?
That felt EXACTLY like that game in Florida. A bunch of fortunate bounces and hits that stacked together at the right time.
….
So, basically, if we have Thorman at 1B instead of Salty (I mean, even just for the 9th; hell, even Woodward!), the first grounder is played correctly and the runner is out at 1st. Then, when Escobar fields the grounder, he goes to 1st for the easy out and we win 2-1.
Well crap.
No~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I hate this~~~~~~~~~~~
Where’s my Soriano!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where is Thorman in the 9th as a defensive replacement?
I am beyond fed up at this point. Bad teams lose games like these and you know what, sports fans? That’s exactly what we are.
That was absolutely disgusting. How ridiculously predictable and inept we’ve become.
im sick, i dotn understand. that is the worst ninth inning of the year, im just sick to my stomach i feel like i need to apologize to the entire room that i wasnt out on the mound pitching it myself
i just threw up in my mouth. but you can’t blame that play on salty. even if he came up with it cleanly, there was no way wickman was getting to the bag in time. i blame wickman and only wickman – and i guess escobar also for a bad throw home.
OTOH, we could blaim Chipper for this:
if he wasn’t so damn fragile, we’d have him at 3B, Thor at 1B, and Salty DHing. Even if Thor fields the play correctly, Chipper still makes the play and at worst it’s tied….
Woulda coulda shoulda. At the end of the day, we lost. The whole team is to blame.
I blame Soriano. He says he wants to be the closer. Just walked out to the GD mound and take the ball. Tell Wickman that there is Pork BBQ on the spread.
why is our closer a fat tub of lard that throws 87-89 MPH?? How can it feel sooo good whenever Soriano is on the mound and feel sooooo awful whenever they show Wickman warming up?
Hey Mac, you reach “anger” yet?
You guessed it, Stapler.
I’ve reached nihilism. Well, that and rage.
Lets take it easy with the physical insults to Wickman. Judge him on his play. And you know what, he could have used some veteran help out there in the field
by “veteran” you mean Jenny Craig?
