Can you believe I have to work today? Well, I say work, it’s shorter than “hang out at work but don’t do anything”.
Here’s a video.

Mac, I’m working today too. Really working, this minor diversion notwithstanding.
Yesterday’s game was hard to watch. I still think Paronto, Woodward, Prado, and Orr are on the roster and seeing some playing time so that they can be primed as trading pieces, albeit minor trading pieces. At least that is what I hope.
A question prompted by Salty’s first career homer: Has anyone ever seen him not swing at the first pitch at the major league level? I haven’t. Is there some place I can find stats to answer this?
Weezer’s first album is class. That is all.
Adam,
Yes! 10 incredible songs.
Expounding on some stuff that has been mentioned earlier.
1) Yes, the Braves have struggled to produce good starting pitching. Unfortunately we’ve traded some pretty good arms away. Hopefully we’ll start to stockpile the good arms again.
2) I have never really liked McDowell, but I can’t blame the Braves’ pitching problems on him. If you blame him for Paronto’s poor pitching, every ML coach that Paronto’s ever had needs to be criticized – check his stats. McDowell has seemed to really help Yates and Moylan and he deserves a little credit for the resurgence of Lerew before he started hiding his injury. The SPs are a mixed bag. I think James will be okay, but won’t be great and I’ve never had much confidence in Davies being ready for the majors.
TD (Timothy Dwight?) I agree that Davies needed more time at AAA, but I am even less certain of Lerew. He pitched reasonably well in 2007 at Richmond (terribly in 2006) and had one good start for the Braves. I hope that he is ready, but there is no more reason to believe that he can pitch than Davies….
I really hate the Mets.
I hate having to catch them at half-game intervals. I just hope the Braves can put the Mets out of their minds and focus on winning series. By September, they’ll have the Wildcard wrapped up.
The NL Central is terrible (besides Brew Crew, only team above .500). Hopefully they can outlast the west teams.
I’m working too. This smoke does wonders for the cows. Auburn’s in full panic mode.
One of my all-time favorite clips…
Little known fact…this music video was on the Windows 95 Install CD. I remember stumbling onto it long long ago.
My instinct is that the moves will start on June 10 (if that is, in fact, the official day after which this year does not count to free agency).
Dan Smith has been brought up to Richmond in the past few days. His numbers at Mississippi were great. Either he or Harrison could be the trick to stabilize 4 and 5.
Yunel Escobar is OPS 840 at Richmond. He is obviously a more useful fielder than Orr and Prado (and possibly as good as Woodward). Escobar’s numbers project him at OPS 750 or so in MLB which is o.k. shortstop if he can field as well as it looks like. He should be the solution here in a couple of weeks.
Salty needs to get first base reps against lefties. McCann can hit lefties better than Thorman and we can’t afford tolose offense against lefties. Then, occasionally as needed, Salty can catch on days that righties are pitching for the other guys.
Also, against righthanders if Chipper can’t go, put Willie Harris at 3rd and let Diaz play left. Don’t play Orr, Woodward, or Prado at 3rd with Harris on the roster if he can possibly do it (and his rep coming in was that he could and he certainly won’t be worse than Prado or Orr).
Same here Boomer. Saw it the first time while installing my Windows 95…
Smith got a rough ride in his first game at Richmond, but he has a chance to help–but that might be a good bit later….
Does anyone know where I could find the probable starters for the Mississippi Braves, they’re in town for 5 games and was hoping to catch Harrison.
beedee–try the official Mississippi Braves website:
http://www.mississippibraves.com/
Hope this helps…
thanks stephen,
i’ve looked there along with the lookouts’, and milb websites o i guess i’ll just have to catch all 5 games 😉
I share the pain of all you other guys working on the holiday. I was the lucky person to get stuck with on-call duties today, I’ve been answering phones since 0200 Friday night, and they won’t stop until the office reopens at 0600 tomorrow morning.
Half an hour til first pitch, let’s turn things around guys. Go Braves.
i really think lillibridge has some kind of hormonal deficiency.
he looks younger everytime he’s photographed.

I actually think Lerew may be done for the Braves. He got the call-up mainly because they thought he could log some innings and it looks like he hid his injury – this really hurt the team. Cox was not happy. I just think McDowell played a part in Lerew’s pre-injury improvement. I’m still not a McDowell fan, but I think he’s been more successful than last year.
Playing Harris in the infield is a pretty good proposition, but Cox doesn’t seem to like it. He’s hitting well and with Diaz tearing it up and Salty around, using him instead a Woodward/Orr/Prado would be a huge upgrade. Has Cox used Harris in the infield yet? Does anyone know if he’s a decent infielder?
i have a good feeling about james today. he usually pitches alright when the braves have been struggling. no data to peove it, just have the feeling.
@18… wow, lillibridge is one ugly mother… 🙂
No Chipper today…damn
why would they have their best current hitter bunt?
becaue we havent been able to score and for some reason Bobby thinks 1 run might win this game. I think otherwise
Andruw back in the cleanup spot, moving him to 6th didnt really help us
James currently looks very hittable
Well that works…just want to see some quicker at-bats
Chuck just ain’t that great. A solid 4, I think, but we’re going to have to find a 3 somewhere. I don’t think there’s one currently in our system.
wow… it’s just not going our way right now, is it.
Nice inning for James–I wonder if we will get our first hit in the 4th. It almost seems too much to ask…
There we go Druw!
Andruw!! Nice way to get our first hit…
It’s too bad Andruw The Pull Hitter didn’t try to pull that one. That’s what he’s good at and how he has his “success,” after all.
Beedee, if you’re still wondering about those pitching matchups, it appears that Harrison would pitch on the 29th and Jo-jo on the 30th (just from looking at their recent schedule and counting ahead 5 days from their last starts). But I certainly can’t argue with just going to all of them. 🙂
James is dealing….
A little insurance, niice.
good job Chuckie and KJ
Marte was just back to AAA
sent back
shouldve been two
Way to fight through it, Chucky.
This game is looking up. It is great to see James on–now lets see if the Braves can get him some more support….
Chip needs to cool it with the sausage jokes.
when you have a 1-2 count on Fielder why throw him a inside fastball?
Way to go, Thor.
Gotta get a couple runs here.
Chuckie’s day is done, lets get some runs here Prado. I would like to see Salty hit rather than Prado
just put it in play, dont K here
Why is Prado even here…
nevermind you suck! we dont score here I got a bad feeling
Cadahia has a gross fupa.
Time for another 2-out RBI…
Unbelievable…
that’s absolutely pathetic, we will lose this game! mark it down
I blame Cadahia’s fupa. that was horrible.
Bases loaded, no out and we don’t score?! That’s pathetic.
Boy this team stinks!
To add to that…Bases loaded, no out, we dont’ score…and there wasn’t even a double play!!!
In April, the team could have no one one with two out and was still a threat to score a couple of runs. In May, it loads the bases with no one out and can’t get anyone home.
I hope that momentum can take a swing at Chip’s jaw….
Edgar has had better days.
Nice outing for Chuck, still needed 93 pitches to get through 6, but even that’s better than he’d been doing, and you can’t argue with the results.
Yates, Sori, Wick. Shut ‘er down.
………
who thinks we are still in the game?
Here we go…
the pen sucks without gonzo…
yates sucks
Soriano. I like this move.
thank you Jesus
Soriano is the man
Hi, I’m here now. I just hope Soriano still has something left for the next inning. Well, he’s certainly well-rested.
Any word about Chipper?
yeah, he has a broken nail. Probably will miss at least two weeks. Just kidding
I havent heard but we def. need him back. Im sick of Woodward/Prado platoon
A Message I am passing along from Mac:
1) Blame Andruw
2) and he has no connectivity at work today so his post game thread will be late.
csg-
You’re not stoked about the Prado-Woodward death team? Who needs Chipper! Ha!
Atrocious, Jeff.
Mac,
I didn’t look up to see you had returned. Now I just look rather silly…
On a more serious note, ahem, past Wickmania and Soriano, our two next best relievers now (and going forward) are: Peter Moylan and Kali.
Our 3rd best starter is Chuck James and then a huge dropoff after that.
We have got to make a deal for pitching.
I love Soriano.
I can’t tell that the connection will stay up.
It’s hard, as I told Alex earlier, to acquire pitching, or anything, before June — really, before July. I’m sure JS is working on it. Keep an eye on the Reds as a trade partner.
Gosh, Soriano is fun.
Soriano is awesome.
We need to nail this one down.
Boys, relax. Cormier is coming back, and while he’s not JESUS, as other pitchers are called here (and rightfully so), he’s capable of filling the #4 spot, and I believe Davies will be alright as #5 eventually.
Talking deal, what do we have to offer? And who would be willing to give up a good starter for crap these days? The Mariners, maybe, only they don’t have any good starters.
If we make a deal, I think Andruw for Lowry or something like that would be realistic.
Wickmania.
Let’s get it done.
Time for Wick to nail this bad boy down.
Diaz flashing that leather
Nice effort, Matt.
One more, Big Boy…
Winning sure feels great.
Woo!
Needed that one.
Whew.
Great effort from Chucky & 2 of the relievers. Plus, another HR from Andruw.
Heal up, Chipper. We need you.
Big win. We needed that.
bad as May has seemed, we are at .500 for the month. Granted it’s been the tale of two teams, Braves were unreal hot to start and brutal once they got to Wash of all places. Still, hopefully it’s a good sign to feel this uneasy about a team that is still putting up decent numbers.
